Round 3 poll 6: Amelia Bedelia vs Junie B. Jones
Propaganda:
Amelia Bedelia:
The whole series is about her taking figures of speech literally. Relatable because she shows the English language is confusing as fu-
she's very silly, and her books were among my favorites as a kid. her whole deal is that she takes metaphors very literally, which results in lots of shenanigans when someone asks her to do something. i still think about her "dusting the furniture" (covering it with dust) and "drawing the drapes" (drawing a picture of them on a piece of paper) when i clean anything.
queen of literal interpretation!
She's just a silly goofy type
absent-minded/processing issues queen
Well meaning and kind hearted but bumbling maid who’s made generations of kids laugh with her literalist antics
Junie B. Jones:
She's a total icon for weird little girls everywhere. She has a peep in her pocket. She's a party animal. She's a beauty shop guy. She's captain field day. She only likes B and that's all. She's everything.

Round 3 Poll 1: Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables vs Meg Murray from a Wrinkle in Time
Propaganda:
Anne Shirley:
The poster child for female-presenting ADHD before the diagnosis even existed for stereotypical hyperactive boys, she's a mess who always seems to stumble into trouble and generally seems like just too MUCH for more than one character, yet her general enthusiasm, creativity, and determination just compells people to love her sometimes against their will. And if you tell her she's in this competition, she will NOT STOP until she comes out on top.
because she's the most delightful little girl in the world & anne of green gables has held on as a classic for over a century
wild and wacky Troublesome girl representation!! also her deep love for diana!
Smart, imaginative, loyal orphan from a classic book series
The original kid lit Queen!
Anne has a big imagination and a big heart! She is full of passion and always tries to do best by the people she loves. She turns Green Gables upside down when she arrives and opens up everyone's heart right up. This competition wouldn't be complete without her!!!
A classic weird girl icon. I love her so much.
As someone who was always taught to be the 'good little girl' - Anne whacking Gilbert on the head for pulling on her hair made her an absolute legend in my mind. She loves nature, has a temper, and finally gets to enjoy the simple joys of childhood with her new family the Cuthberts.
she is so dear to my heart. she never stops talking and is always finding beauty in the world around her. she grows up through the series and reading it at different ages through the years meant I sort of got to grow up with her, which was really special to me. she has this wonderful story about finding family where she doesn't expect it and winning people over through being herself and being kind to them. also, canadian content <3

Round 3 poll 2: Peril from Wings of Fire vs Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Propaganda:
Peril:
PERIL MY FAVORITE GIRL. she has a PHENOMENAL character design. she's a dragon whose scales are burning hot to the touch, and her eyes are bright blue, but in a way that's basically described as "the sky, but on fire". a major antagonist was basically raising her as a living weapon, and her childhood was pretty horrific even by wings of fire standards. she was made to brutally murder other dragons in arena fights for her kind-of-mother-figure's entertainment. she had extremely few normal interactions with others for most of her childhood, so she does not have a great frame of reference for most situations. also her one friend/decent parental figure was later murdered in front of her as a punishment. anyways by the time the main characters show up, she (VERY UNDERSTANDABLY) has atrocious social skills and loads of trauma. she's also genuinely delightful in every scene she's in, because she's so well-meaning and fun, and she has a tendency to speak in caps-lock. she immediately latches onto the first character to be nice to her, and that leads to her helping out the main characters several times. THEN. she gets her own book! and her perspective is my favorite out of all the POV characters. she does not react normally to any situation ever, and she makes a friend!! and it's the best best best dynamic in the books, and i love them forever and ever and ever. pretty much everything she says or thinks is one of my favorite lines. she has sooo many issues. she's my daughter she's my child. she's a war hero she's a war criminal she's both she's neither. God Forbid Women Do Anything. Peril Has Done Nothing Wrong In Her Life Ever And I Love Her. she's literally perfect. she is HAUNTED she is TRAUMATIZED she is MORALLY QUESTIONABLE she is LONELY she is WEIRD her first instincts are almost always ARSON AND VIOLENCE and she is TRYING HER BEST ALWAYS. anyways vote Peril Wings Of Fire. for me. <3
Annabeth chase:
Not Like Other Girls genius demigod architect disaster who conquered arachnophobia with a Chinese Finger Trap.
She's smart, she's tough, she doesn't take anyone's crap, she's a woman in STEM. Her mother is the goddess of wisdom and it fucking shows. Annabeth Chase was my second crush at the age of 10
It’s fucking Annabeth Chase
I'm sure she has been submitted already, I am seconding her submission

Round 3 poll 5: Madeline vs Ella from Ella Enchanted
Propaganda:
Madeline:
Her entire original book is about how iconic she is. The smallest in her school or orphanage or whatever it’s supposed to be. Laughs at lions. Causes trouble all across Paris. Gets an appendicitis and has a swell old time.
She is an absolute icon for rambunctious little girls and I love her. she's literally why I can read.
Ella:
Ella is cursed to be obedient, forcing her to follow any command given to her. Despite this, she strives to find ways around the curse or cause problems for those who make commands. She’s also a budding linguistic, learning multiple languages on her journey. Furthermore, Ella's curse serves as a metaphor for the lack of autonomy children experience in society, often being made to do things beyond their control because adults in their lives dictate it so. Clearly, a strong contender in the race!
Cursed with obedience, Ella will stretch her limits and find any loophole to disobey orders, and in the end it is her indomitable spirit and deep love that enables her to break her own curse. She is also clever, funny, incredibly gifted with languages, and has a heart for justice.

Round 3 poll 4: Matilda Wormwood vs Kaya from the American Girl books
Propaganda:
Matilda wormwood:
A love for books + telekinesis + intelligence = Matilda
I just think she's neat
She can move shit WITH HER MIND
She's smart, she's kind, she's autistic AF, she divorced her parents and made her own path, she has psychic powers and she's lovely.
ok look we all know (or are about to learn) that Roald Dahl was a horrible hateful bigoted antisemitic little man but Matilda is iconic. huge inspiration to so many of us bullied/abused/marginalized lil kids who just wanted love, understanding, and to read the heck out of some books. she was able to use her own brain and willpower to both get the help she needed, and punish the adults who wronged her so badly! (i remember wishing deeply that i could spontaneously develop powers as a kid for aaaages after reading this one)
because she's freakin' Matilda!

Round 3 poll 3: Nancy Drew vs Jo March from Little Women
propaganda:
Nancy Drew:
She's been a kidlit queen since the 1930s and inspired many girls through the years!
the og girl detective!! I loved her so much growing up. she's always very stylish and cares about her family and friends and always ends up solving the mystery, even when she's conflicted about what the right thing to do is. the illustrations in my mom's old copies of the books were so cool
She's an icon. Who needs cops when a very curious and determined teenager can solve crime?
she does solve murders which granted is also cool.
DREW CREW <3
Jo March
Idk if its really kidlit, but I read it in elementary school so hopefully it counts?
my gay coded writer queen!!
Best March sister, great writer, stands up for herself, dodges predictable ending and doesn’t marry obvious male friend
