Honestly, as a hard Wenclair shipper, I don’t hate on Wyler fans. I’ve decided to write an analysis about Wyler as a way to better understand them. Even if I don’t share their love for the ship, it doesn’t erase some good points.

The character of Wednesday, throughout the different adaptations, has always shown some kind of affection for the kind and shy boy-next-door type. Tyler kind of fits this description — even if, in my opinion, Eugene is a literal copy-paste of that stereotype and was clearly relegated to the “little brother” figure.

So Wyler can make some kind of sense. The dark and sharp character paired with the sweet counterpart is always a great combination. Opposites attract, am I right?

Another argument for Wyler is that Tyler turning into a dangerous monster wouldn’t necessarily be a red flag for an Addams. On the contrary, it’s actually a good argument — the Addams family loves the strange and macabre.

However, a Hyde must have a master. There has to be a power dynamic. Tyler will never truly be in control of the beast. And the Addams seem to value balance and equality in their relationships. It would also be unfair to Tyler to be forced into obedience. Even if Wednesday became his new master, it would make their relationship based on a lack of free will from one party. It sounds incredibly toxic.

The part that gets really questionable is the Hyde itself.

Like, I get that Laurel tortured and controlled Tyler, but he admitted to enjoying killing people. I also understand that it’s supposed to be interpreted through the lens of psychological/emotional/sexual abuse, and that Tyler liking the thrill of the dirty work he was forced into could be a trauma response.

But how much control does a Hyde really have?

That’s a big question throughout the show:

• Did Tyler really like killing?

• Is the Hyde another being within himself that subdues his “real” self?

• Or is it just his dark impulses surfacing?

• Is Tyler a good guy under the pressure of the Hyde, or was he the Hyde all along?

That brings us to the next point:

We don’t know Tyler.

We don’t know Tyler with the Hyde.

And through season one, we come to understand that Tyler was the Hyde. But it left us wondering: Was the Hyde Tyler?

Is Tyler a psychopathic murderer, or was he forced to act under the stronger will of a savage alter ego?

Are they the same or two separate beings? How do we even divide the responsibility between the two?

I really hope the show gives us more insight into it.

Since we don’t have answers yet, I can’t imagine Wednesday being involved with Tyler.

She obviously had an affection or at least an interest in the sweet coffee boy — but that wasn’t really Tyler.

The Hyde is part of Tyler, whether he likes it or not. Wednesday liked the version Tyler showed her — not his real self.

He basically lied to her to get close. He led her to Laurel even if he had some liking for her. Was he entirely controlled? Maybe, but either way, it’s safe to say Wednesday no longer holds any real attachment to him.

Another important point — even if it’s just common sense — is that Wednesday would absolutely hate Tyler if he truly meant those murders.

The Addams family might be creepy and kooky, but they have a strong sense of justice and solid values. They’re goth, not evil.

Now, some projections based on what we learn about Tyler in the future:

• Best-case scenario: He was subjected by the Hyde and gets help to control it, healing from his trauma. It would take time. He could then be redeemed and reintegrated into the outcast world, with a better understanding of Hydes and protections against the abuse he suffered.

• Worst-case scenario: The dark personality of the Hyde was always part of him, even before it “woke up.” In that case, Tyler holds responsibility for his crimes, is non-redeemable, and goes full villain mode.

Honestly, I’d be happy with either.

The actor playing Tyler is amazing, and I can easily see him nailing both versions.

Still, I think Tyler would be the perfect opponent for Wednesday rather than a potential suitor.

As you might have guessed from this analysis, I really dig his character — mostly for the mystery and potential he still holds.

Now that I’ve written this whole text about making peace with Wyler fans, I want to point out something:

We kind of have the same argument as Wenclair fans!

The opposites attract trope. The Addams’ fascination with monstrous creatures.

We’re not so different after all.

Let’s just enjoy the show in our own ways without turning on each other’s throats.

How to AO3 - A Tagging Guide Masterpost

Maybe it is the autism, but I've always found AO3's tagging system to be extremely fascinating and fun. However, I know that many people do not share my love and find it frustrating and difficult.

Now after over a decade of reading fics on there I can say that I have *opinions* on how works should be tagged. I have seen many people lament over not knowing how to tag, and if that's you, here's a guide!

Blanket Disclaimer – Tagging is inherently subjective.  There are very few cases where a fic is truly tagged ‘incorrectly’ since an argument can be made for or against the inclusion of most tags.  Besides the 4 major warnings (and selecting a fandom & language), everything else is optional (and you can even not do those 4 if you choose “Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings”).  So take a breath and relax, you will be fine.

Additionally, since tagging is subjective, this advice is how I think works should be tagged.  You are free to disagree, but these are the guidelines I use and the interpretation that I think makes the most sense.

Alright with that out of the way... here we go!

1. What are tags even for anyway?

Tags are advertisements for your work. Each tag should be considered with care, don’t just throw on a tag for no reason.

There is one main question I want you to take away from this entire post. If you remember nothing else, remember this. When considering to add a tag, ask yourself:

Would a reader looking for this specific tag be happy with this story?

The answer to that for every tag on your work should be an enthusiastic YES. If the answer is no, cut the tag (with a few exceptions – mostly kink/warning related)

2. Ratings

The lines between some of the ratings can get fuzzy, but I generally think about them like I would think about movie ratings.

Not Rated This is the one to use if you either don’t want to rate your fic or are unsure.  When people search, this will be treated like M and E fics (meaning a warning will be shown about possible adult content when people click on it). G - General Audiences Suitable for everyone. You could show this to someone under 13 and it would be totally fine. T - Teen Think PG-13 or the equivalent rating in your country. I would categorize total fade to black sex scenes in here and violence on the level of the original Hunger Games books. M - Mature Adult themes such as sex, violence, etc, but not exceedingly graphic. This is where partial fade to black sex scenes go as well as scenes in which the sex is described but not in detail. For violence, I would put anything in here that doesn't spend a ton of time describing the gore. E - Explicit Porn and graphic violence. This is where smut goes. I do also think that when AO3 readers see an E rating they expect sex so if you are rating something E for violence and there is no sex present, you might want to put that in an additional tag so as not to confuse people.

For ratings - use your judgement. Some topics are inherently dark (suicide, non-con (even off screen), death, etc). It is up to you to pick what you think that appropriate rating is for your story based on what you think.

3. Archive Warnings

When you get to this section you will be confronted with 6 checkboxes: Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings, No Archive Warnings Apply, Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con, and Underage Sex.

The last 4 of those (Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con, and Underage Sex) I will now call the 4 Major Archive Warnings for the rest of this post.

Now let's walk through each of the 6:

Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings - You pick this one if you do not want to select any of the others. If any of the 4 Major Archive Warnings exist in your story and you don't want to tag them, then you MUST select this option to be in compliance with AO3 Terms of Service.

No Archive Warnings Apply - You select this if none of the 4 Major Archive Warnings exist in your fic.

Graphic Depictions of Violence - Often people get tripped up with what counts as 'graphic' for this warning. I usually think about this one in relation to the source material the fic is from. For example, what might qualify as 'graphic' in one fandom might differ from another. But I tend to use the movie rating scale again (anything that would be too much for PG-13 gets the warning), but again it is up to your judgement.

Rape/Non-Con - Pretty self-explanatory. If your fic has this at all, you should tag it. When I see this tagged the implication to me is that the assault occurs on-screen. However, if you want to tag if for off-screen non-con no one will stop you.

Underage Sex - Again, self-explanatory. If your characters are underage and have sex, tag it. Technically, for AO3, underage is considered under 18 no matter where the fic takes place or where you are writing it, so take that under consideration. (This tag can get complicated with immortal beings, aliens, ghosts, or other supernatural elements, just use your best judgement).

Major Character Death - I have the most to say about this one because I find it the most confusing of the 4. I will attempt to not go on a rant here about how I really dislike this one (but man do I hate it). Here are some questions I often see about this warning and how I would answer them: 1. So... who counts as a major character? AO3's official answer to this is to use your judgement. Which isn't super helpful. I think the warning should apply to major characters in your fic not the source material. For example, if your fic's main character is Leon and Arthur dies at some point, but he wasn't a focus of your fic, then I don't think MCD should be tagged. (This might be my most controversial tagging opinion) 2. How do I determine who the main characters are in my fic? Here is my approach - if your story has main ship X with characters A and B driving most of the plot and character C is also there, but is not the main focus of the story, then killing C does not count as Major Character Death. However, if the story is about a trio of characters A, B, and C and A and B also happen to also be in a relationship, then killing C would be Major Character Death. In the end it is up to your discretion as the author, but I would think about how much the character contributes to make a determination. 3. What about temporary death? Do I have to tag MCD for that? I don't think so. The Temporary Death tag exists for a reason and that should be sufficient. 4. Okay so I don't think the character I killed is a major character, but some people might disagree and I don't want people to be mad that I didn't tag MCD. What should I do? Tag Character Death and leave it at that. In my opinion, that is sufficient warning that someone might die. 5. What if the characters are already dead at the start? Like they are ghosts or something? If your characters are essentially immortal creatures whose natural state is dead then I don't think you need to tag MCD. The spirit of the MCD tag is that a character is going away. If the characters are dead but still around then I don't think that is MCD.

Yeah I have a lot of MCD opinions... but moving on!

3. Categories

These are for the type of romantic relationship is in the fic.

Gen - No romantic or sexual relationships, or relationships are not the main focus of the work. F/F - Female to Female F/M - Female to Male M/M - Male to Male Multi - more than one kind of relationship or relationship with multiple partners (so both Poly relationships and fics with multiple relationships as the focus go here). Other - Relationships not covered by the other categories.

4. Fandom

This one is usually easy. You just tag the fandom for the fic you are writing for. Done! But there is an instance where this can get confusing...

When do you tag multiple fandoms? You tag multiple fandoms when you are using elements from another fandom in a CROSSOVER instance! Do NOT tag it if it is used in an AU instance! The difference is subtle, but for example, I am writing my Dead Boy Detectives Hunger Games AU, but since I am NOT crossing over with Hunger Games characters and am only using the Hunger Games setting, I do NOT tag Hunger Games.  However, if my fic were to use characters from Hunger Games (like if Katniss showed up for a chat), then I would tag it. This is important because: 1. Some people filter out crossovers and you don't want your fic to be considered a crossover when you are just using it as an AU. 2. Tagging other fandoms where you really aren't using the characters floods the other fandom tag with works that aren't really related to that fandom and that isn't a nice thing to do.

5. Relationship Tags

/ vs & - they mean two different things! The / is for romantic relationships. The & is for platonic relationships. There are times when tagging both is acceptable. For example, if your fic is ambiguous about if two characters are together then you can tag both. Also, if the 2 characters haven’t gotten together yet, but they will at some nebulous point in the future beyond the end of the fic, I think it is fine to tag the / tag since it is pre-slash, but that depends on personal preference.

Poly Ships - “But what if I have a poly ship?  Do I tag the poly ship and all the sides of the triangle (or square, or pentagon, you get it)?” It depends on personal preference, but here is how I would do it- Remember , the key for adding any tag is “Would a reader looking for this specific tag be happy with this story?” So, for example, if you are writing a poly fic with characters X/Y/Z and X/Y have scenes together alone and Z/X have scenes alone, then you tag the poly ship and those sides of the triangle. But say Y/Z don’t have much development outside the poly ship, then you don’t tag them. Poly ships can make your relationship tags quite long, but it is better to cover your bases adequately. This way, if people don’t want the poly ship, they can filter that tag out, but if people don’t mind, they will still be able to find your fic while searching for the non-poly tag.

Side Ships - “X couple are the main focus of my fic, but Y couple is there too, should I tag both?” It depends on a couple of factors. If someone clicked on your story just for the secondary Y ship, would they be satisfied? Is there enough content to justify it being a Y ship story or are they just there to support the main X ship? - If they are just in the background and mentioned but get zero onscreen development or scenes DO NOT tag it in the Relationships section! - If they get screen time and development, then DO tag them in the Relationships section. If Y ship does not get enough development to be tagged in the Relationship section, you can tag them in the Additional Tags section. This allows you to highlight couple Y's presence in the fic without clogging up their relationship tag.

6. Characters

Now you might think that if a character is in a relationship tag, then they should be automatically assumed to be in the fic. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Perhaps a fic includes allusions to X being with Y, but Y isn’t actually present. In that case, only X should be in the Character tags.

On the flip side, if both members of the relationship tag are present in the fic, always tag characters in the Character section too! If someone is just filtering on X and doesn’t put anything into the Relationships section, then they will not find your fic if you don’t tag them individually!

How many characters should I tag? Do I tag everyone? In shorter one shots, you can probably get away with tagging all the characters even if they only have a small role. But in long fics, choices must be made. Tag everyone that you feel gets adequate attention and contributes significantly to the plot. Again, would a reader looking for this specific character be happy with this story?

7. Kinks

I’m not gonna get into the specifics of this because I don't really want to and it isn't my area of expertise, but you know what these are 😂

If you are writing smut, then you should tag the tropes you are using so people can properly filter on what they want and don't want to see.

8. Warnings (outside the Major 4)

There are a lot of warnings you can tag for outside of the Major 4. Here is a list of some of the common ones I have seen:

Suicide

Self-Harm

Incest

Manipulation

Alcoholism

PTSD

Minor Character Death

Gun Violence

Non-consensual touching

Body Horror

Dub-Con

Torture

Psychological Horror

Abuse (Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Animal Abuse)

Homophobic Language

Grief/Mourning

That is in no way intended to be a comprehensive list, but you get the idea. If there is something in your fic that you feel might upset someone, consider tagging it.

9. Time/Universe

Tell people when/where your story takes place!

Alternate Universe - in which something is changed from the canon universe. I usually sort them into 2 major subcategories: 1. Canon Divergence - The fic changes an aspect from canon, but still is in the same general universe. 2. Other AUs - These fics go wild! It can be anything from the classic Coffee Shop AU to an AU based on another fandom property (Harry Potter AUs, Hunger Games AUs, etc) Get creative with your AU tags! If the tag for your specific AU doesn't exist, make it yourself! Also, you can tag multiple AUs for one story if they all apply (such as tagging both Alternate Universe - Zombie Apocalypse and Alternate Universe - The Last of Us Setting)

Canon Universe - The fic takes place in the fandom universe with no changes. There are also subcategories here! 1. Pre-Canon - takes place before the timeline of the source material. 2. Post-Canon - takes place after the timeline of the source material. 3. Canon Compliant - takes place during the timeline of the source material and doesn't change that timeline (think missing scenes)

Almost every fic should have either an AU tag or one of the canon tags!

10. Gender Swap/Trans Characters

Remember that tags are advertisements! If you are writing about trans characters or gender swapped characters, people want to find that! Let them know and tag it!

11. Genre/Big Tropes

These are the big ones. Every fic you post should have at least one of these tags:

Angst

Hurt/Comfort

Fluff

Smut

Romance

Humor

Crack

Every fic has a feeling you want to evoke or emotion you want to convey and that is what these tags are for. Let the reader know what they are in for!

12. More Specific Tags

This is for everything else. This is where you can have a lot of fun. If there is something in your story you want to highlight, put it in the tags! Here are some examples!

Amnesia

Friends to Lovers

Enemies to Lovers

Slow Burn

Mutual Pining

Fake Dating

Miscommunication

Pregnancy

Mpreg

Jealousy

Abandonment Issues

Codependency

Cuddling

Fake/Pretend Relationship

First Kiss

Love Confessions

Hurt (insert character here)

Protective (insert character here)

Time Travel

Apocalypse

Established Relationship

Or literally anything else your mind can think of! The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

13. Joke Tags

AO3 is not tumblr, so do not treat the tags like you do on there. The goal of the tags is for readers to find your fic if they want to read it and filter it out if they don’t, so don’t take up a ton of space with joke tags.

However, some joke tags can be fun, and I don’t mind seeing some of them, but keep it limited to a couple at most. They are most useful to clarify something about a tag you used. For example, I tagged “Slow Burn” but right after that tag I put “but also they literally share a bed all the time so… take that as you will”. It is a joke, but it also provides useful information to the reader.

14. How many tags is too many?

AO3 limits you to 75 tags, but you should probably never be approaching that number. I’d say ask yourself that main question (“Would a reader looking for this specific tag be happy with this story?”) for each one of the tags. That should help you narrow it down to the main ones your story represents.

A reasonable goal is that your tag list and summary should just about fit onto a phone screen so a reader can see all of it at once.

I have about 30 tags (including everything) on my current long fic with over 90k words; you don’t need a million tags.

Hey I've seen that you've not been active recently, I like the comic so far, so I have a question why haven't you been active?

Sorry for not answering questions as of late! I have a few answered ones in my draft!

I DO APOLOGIZE IF THIS POST MAKES YOU FEEL UNEASY OR UNCOMFORTABLE. This post is mostly for anyone who’s curious about the lack of posts. I don’t need any comfort, compliments or reassurance, trust🫡.

(I’ve been meaning to talk about this topic in detail for a while but i know people get uncomfortable with this kind of negativity!)

“STRAIGHT FORWARD” ANSWER:

I’ve been a little less motivated to draw, thinking every drawing or comic isn’t worth looking at. Im not consistent with my art and want to change up everything if i’m not satisfied with it which makes it confusing for everyone else. Dandy’s design is a big example of that.. Lots of comparing comes into play too. I do NOT have a pretty art style what so ever. dgmw, It’s not meant to be pretty but i get embarrassed when I draw something that’s meant to be somewhat pleasing to the eyes but turns out cringy.(dandy & astro comic). There’s such pretty art out there and it feels like im destroying the beauty of the characters. I also feel like I disappoint others consistently since i have high expectations for myself. I want to improve faster and faster so i push myself. At this point i might’ve accidentally over done it. I took a break to see if that’d help things but when i came back there was a TON of negativity on tiktok.(where i started out) which also pushed me away further to draw since i liked seeing positive things about dandys world! I’m not giving up just yet, because i want to live my art and keep inspiring younger or even older artists to draw different angles and so much more!

(I will also point out, whenever I draw, it takes a lot of time. i am unfortunately a slow artist..sigh.💔)

MORE DETAILED ANSWER WITHIN:

TW: LOADS OF SELF NEGATIVITY & NEGLECT.

Let’s start from the top.

HAPPINESS?

Tiktok was where i started posting comics. (i never made a comic before, so that was my “first” time) All i really wanted to do was post relatable dw experiences for the fun of it.

I didn’t realize people would actually like a simplified, horribly colored, comic. Either way, I was having fun.

I got this really weird motivational high when others wanted more or the “next part”. i literally couldn’t fall asleep and wasn’t eating from all the thrill. I couldn’t tell if I was happy or really anxious from the attention.

I got a little afraid once i reached 10k or something like that. I didn’t have a story for the “AU” nor did i ever create one in my life. I couldn’t tell if people liked filler episodes or random episodes or if they really liked the lore/plot.(everyone was angry at qwel for not showing any lore so I got worried about that happening with me and wasting everyone’s time.)

GROWING GUILT.

At one point i took a break from the comic to create some silly little christmas special which,, i should have planned out beforehand. It felt like I made a promise to post every night for december like a christmas advent calendar(that was the plan basically).

Big mistake. I already had an insecurity/fear of disappointing others. I believed i could make these silly little shorts every night. I once again struggled to sleep and eat but this time from guilt that was growing. I finally called it quits on the 7th day(sad ik i only made it to 7 days lol) since a lot of people were concerned once i was late and i seriously didn’t want to concern anyone. I still had ideas but i couldn’t keep up with the days.

OVERWHELMING SUPPORT.

The support from the familiar faces was and still is overwhelming. Everyone was/is so nice and yet i still felt like i let everyone down? I felt like i needed to give more or try harder as thank you for supporting and being there and for treating me like a human being especially when other creators had people pushing them to make their comics. No one asked me to try harder but i felt/feel the need to push myself, or to make a better version each time.

I don’t know how to take compliments. A small thank you doesn’t feel like enough. I want to do MORE but I know I can’t.

TOOK A BREAK.

I didn’t want to take a break, but it was needed. I also needed to take advice from the familiar faces i saw because they were right. I thought I was ready to come back because, I had a story, had a plan to go at my own pace, say a simple thank you for the support, and move along. I also wanted to step out of my comfort zone and become one with the community. (Idk if this was such a good idea tbh LOL. I feel invasive like rodger or shelly.)

FANDOM NEGATIVITY.

I loved the community and how silly we all were back when it was growing. The way people portrayed the characters in their aus, created lore, ships and their names were creative, ocs, and so much more to create a somewhat healthy community. It was Dandy’s world’s prime time for me.

However,,, During March, All i saw was negativity.

No one was negative in my comments, however, whenever i went on tiktok, all it was, was(and still is) negativity. I’m not talking about slimetok or some shit hating on “us” and changing the “💔” emoji to a rotting flower, I’m talking about our OWN community hating on the new updates, hating on certain characters, on aus, on ships, hating on ANYTHING that helped create the community. Some of the community members are also something else. All of this negativity really killed my motivation(personal stuff too). Dgmw, people can have opinions, but holy shit? How much negativity are you gonna diarrhea out???????

We’ve got bigger problems in the world. I already know this! But we kind of need to be happy here and there or else we’ll all be depressed or some shit.(an escape basically.) Unfortunately I used DW to cope which is probably why i’m feeling sad about all of this negative change.

OVERTHINKING DISAPPOINTMENT.

Due to the popularity on tiktok, I felt as though i was disappointing those large amount of numbers. I do feel like i should only focus on the people who are “closer” to the account, but i’ve had another issue with that too. Anyone I feel closer to, I feel like they’re going to be more disappointed not only in the art but they’ll get bored with my personality too? I’m still trying my hardest not to care so much about disappointment but it’s been a little tricky.

Unfortunately I look at my art differently now, hating everything i post and judging myself too quickly. I spent over 150 hrs on the two long comics “Abc song” “Snowballs coming your way” or something like that, and despise them. I also disliked the gigi/flutter/looey comic even though that one had gained the most attention on tiktok.

THE POSITIVE…?

I’m still drawing/posting since people get inspired by the art/perspective and it still makes me feel worthy enough to continue the comic/drawing. I too want to like my art again, so i’m not giving up. also my little sister took my ipad for school projects so i can’t exactly draw much rn…🧍

PASTASITTERS AU EXPLAINED

So realized that I never talked about my Pastasitters AU outside of briefly mentioning it once on Discord and that needs to change!

It’s a fun little AU I created for mainly wholesomeness really, and I really do like the idea of it being interactive— meaning everyone can join in! As long as they’re respectful of course.

WHAT IS PASTASITTERS ABOUT?

Well, to be honest, I made it as a subversion/an AU inside my main creepypasta AU. It explores the concept of a “jinx” effect. What if someone had an eerily similar experience with you and you didn’t even know it? And the worst part— they may have been even younger than you were when it happened.

PASTASITTERS quite literally explores the concept of being the older sibling/parental figure that your younger self needed turned into reality— the Pastas have the choice of letting their younger variants turn out just like them them, or try to give them as good as a life they can have in the circumstances they are in. It’s wholesome, it’s angsty, it’s even traumatic at times. But it explores the idea of: if you had the chance to give someone’s life a little light again, would you?

WHAT INSPIRED PASTASITTERS

Honestly? The very irritable age debates that has continued for so many years in this fandom lol. First of all, it started as a funny little concept, like a “haha this would kinda be funny and cute,” but as things always do when you are a creator, it slowly developed into something bigger. Not to mention, it may or may not have been influenced by some recent events this year left me, admittedly, a tad salty and petty ^^; so I thought it was time to fully kick this thing off!

WHY MAKE IT INTERACTIVE (ANYONE CAN JOIN IN)?

I thought it would be a fun idea! I love seeing other people’s characters, and thought it would be really cute to see them be inserted into the AU! Plus, it’s also a chance to remind people of what this fandom has always been about: Having fun!

Well, I was reading your previous questions and I remember seeing something about The Ugly Duckling and why Tails doesn't like it. But what about La Muñeca Fea(The Ugly Doll)? It's a song by Cri Cri, a Mexican children's song singer. And the song is about an ugly doll who hides, is sad, dirty, and even broken, but a mouse tells her not to cry, because unlike those who abandoned her, there are many who love her, who care for her, and want her happy.

I know its a little dumb the situation, but let's pretend that language barriers don't exist for a moment.

It's not dumb at all! There are plenty of headcanons where the characters are multi-lingual, and since there are Sonic dubs in various languages, who's to say they wouldn't speak Spanish? (Or Mobius's Spanish-equivalent, lol). In fact, one of my headcanons is that Sonic and Tails are both pretty quick at picking up new languages - though Sonic moreso just because Tails ends up relying on his Miles Electric's translation features once he's built it. But as a little guy, he picked up on languages pretty quick!

Anyway, to answer your question: now, I really like the song La Muñeca Fea, it's very sweet <3 The problem with Tails and pretty much any children's media is that he wasn't exposed to it at the age where it would've made the most impact on him. His feelings in regards to children's stories or songs lack a sentimental lens, so he views them with a more critical eye.

The way I imagine how his childhood went, even once he was with Sonic, he really didn't come into contact with a lot of children's media. Not traditional lullabies or fairy tales or fables. I base a bit of this off of the AoStH episode "Sonically Ever After" where Tails didn't know any of the fairy tales because he'd never been exposed to them. It's the very last episode of the series, so in all the time Sonic had known Tails to that point (65 episodes), he'd never once told the kid a fairy tale. In Sonic's defense, most kids his age would be sick of and annoyed by "little kid stuff," understandably not understanding why they're important tools for child development, so didn't go out of his way to introduce Tails to children's songs or stories. Aside from the few books Tails gravitated to in libraries (which were all above the reading level of kids his age), his exposure to traditional children's media has been from about age 7 onward. And while he's still technically a child, he's not a child that really enjoys childish things or feels any sort of sentimentality to what most children would.

I say all this just to establish the framework for Tails's perspective here. I think he'd acknowledge La Muñeca Fea is a nice song with a good moral, but he'd probably think it's a bit boring and babyish xD Sonic played mostly rock songs when he was little, so his sentimental lullabies are more in that vein.

When he's an adult, his feelings on that will probably change, but as a kid that's trying his hardest to keep up with teenagers while saving the world on a regular basis? Yeah, he's pretty ambivalent to songs like that.

But I think it's a very fitting song for him and makes me tear up at the thought of a younger Tails getting to hear it and latching onto the story of the Ugly Doll <3 Thank you for asking about it and letting me get to turn this concept around in my brain! I love thinking about child development as it pertains to these characters.

What do you think about Laena’s erasure due to Rhaenicent? If Condal stuck to the book, Rhaenyra’s closest female relationship would be Laena not Alicent. Some say it’s actually because of Daemyra not Rhaenicent that Laena was mistreated by the writers.

(Change the ‘good’ to ‘bad’, and that’s basically your answer.)

The show writers want to present Rhaenicent as a narrative defining romance/friendship and they can’t do that if Rhaenyra has any other women around her. All of Rhaenyra’s relationships with other female characters were affected and Laena most of all. This is likely due to her and Alicent being directly juxtaposed in the book with how their relationship with Rhaenyra is described:

Whilst Princess Rhaenyra misliked her stepmother, Queen Alicent, she became fond and more than fond of her good-sister Lady Laena.

— Fire & Blood, Heirs of the Dragon: A Question of Succession

In the show, Rhaenyra and Alicent are friends because their fathers are coworkers. Alicent’s favourite hobbies are praying and studying. Rhaenyra finds that rather boring but is somehow still friends with Alicent. When Rhaenyra invited Alicent to go flying on Syrax with her, Alicent refuses. The two of them can’t seem to ever agree on various important matters. According to the official script, Alicent is also jealous of Rhaenyra. As well, Alicent is horrified by the idea of Rhaenyra acting outside the constraints of her gendered position. They both keep secrets from each other and when the truth comes out, it leads to anger and resentment on both sides. Alicent then spends years attempting to expose Rhaenyra for having bastard children and depose Rhaenyra as heir.

While Rhaenyra’s relationship with Alicent was stifling, the relationship with Laena offers Rhaenyra a greater sense of freedom and belonging. At the time in the book, Rhaenyra left King’s Landing because of the rising hostilities between the two sides. So she went to live on Dragonstone. When Laena came back home to Driftmark, she immediately befriended Rhaenyra. It’s at that point that the regular visitations between Dragonstone and Driftmark residents truly begin. Laena enjoys the same hobbies as Rhaenyra and the two partake in dragonflights together quite often. While Alicent views Rhaenyra’s bastard sons as inferior, Laena seems more accepting of them, even going so far as to agree to the betrothal of her daughters with Rhaenyra’s sons. Despite Daemon’s past with Rhaenyra, it’s not a roadblock to Laena having a happy relationship with Rhaenyra herself. Laena welcomed Rhaenyra into her life, without judgment for Rhaenyra not adhering to their society’s standards for how women should behave.

If the show had included book Laenyra’s dynamic (whether friendship or romance), it would be a sharp contrast to what Rhaenicent have in the show. A happier and loving alternative to a toxic relationship where the characters never see eye to eye. Of course the show had to remove Laenyra for Rhaenicent’s sake.

That being said, a lot of the issues in Laena’s show depiction occur because of how HOTD has presented Rhaenyra as the only woman Daemon cares for (see also: Mysaria’s relationship with Daemon being changed to be used as a stepping stone for Daemyra). Instead of Daemon courting Laena’s hand in marriage and even duelling her betrothed to the death, their meeting in the show was very different. HOTD had Laena pursuing Daemon while he looks mildly amused, mildly bored and most of his attention is focused on Rhaenyra. There’s the age difference change too, because book!Laena was an adult woman in her 20s at the time she married Daemon, whereas show!Laena is 15. There’s a beach scene with Daemon and Rhaenyra where he says he spared her because of her young age at the time (~17), but I guess he couldn’t think to spare Laena? In the beach scene, while Rhaenyra is allowed to admit her love for Harwin, Daemon has nothing really notable to say about his marriage to Laena, except that he was happy enough and then eventually concedes to the idea that yeah, his life with Laena was a droll tragedy. Oh, and he fucks Rhaenyra at Laena’s funeral too. Speaking specifically of Laena’s marriage to Daemon, their main scene on the rooftop is primarily them talking about Rhaenyra. There’s also a scene where Laena says she knows she’s not a good enough wife for Daemon and not what he would’ve chosen for himself. Since the timeline is different on the show, Laena and Daemon actually spend around 10 years in Essos before returning to Westeros. In that time, HOTD gives the impression that Daemon is miserable and unfulfilled because he is far from his true love, Rhaenyra.

The show writers don’t seem to realize that people can love more than one person in their lifetime. Fire & Blood version of Daemon clearly loved both Laena and Rhaenyra; his love for one wife did not take away from his love for his other wife. But HOTD frames Laena as a lesser person to Rhaenyra at almost every opportunity. Daemon can only tolerate Laena’s presence but his love for Rhaenyra is all that matters to him. Naturally, Daemyra played a big role in Laena’s sidelining too.

To put it bluntly, it’s primarily Team Black fans who say Laena was sidelined for Rhaenicent. But the Team Green side insists that Daemyra is the reason for Laena being sidelined. Well, it’s both.

Hey, buddy, I'm not the one who decided you needed to issue an apology for being antagonistic - that was all you. I assume some level of self awareness was involved. Was the apology insincere or something? But let's talk tags first, then the rest.

1. Villainous personal traits. Yes, Azula has positive/heroic traits. She's loyal to her father and takes her duties and responsibilities incredibly seriously. She leads from the front and she doesn't ask her subordinates to do anything she isn't willing to do herself in terms of facing danger. She's clever, she's adaptable, she treats non-benders as valued allies (if on her side) and significant threats (if not). She's a whole lot less likely to rage out and yell at people than Zuko is, at least until she suffers a psychotic break. She's hard working. She's insightful. She uses the bare minimum of force that will achieve her goals, all of which (with one very notable exception) seem to be to advance the cause of her father/nation.

Note that I'm talking about positive traits (and not her flaws) because they don't align with her villainous role. If she had been raised (indoctrinated) into Air Nomad culture and values, her loyalty and sense of duty would be good things; sadly, she employs them towards an evil cause (the Fire Nation's war of imperialist conquest) because that's her political alignment and how she was raised.

2. Anti-villain. You acknowledge I defined it properly, you just don't appear to be aware of any of the nuance in her character. Has Azula ever said or done anything that suggests she doesn't believe (per the propaganda with which she was raised) that the Fire Nation's benevolent rule is the best thing possible for those under it? (Unlike Zuko, who has actually been out of the FN before, explored the Air Temples, and expresses that he doesn't buy into FN propaganda in Season 1) And the one time Azula defies her father, it's to ignore her orders (bring back Iroh and Zuko, alive or dead) and find a way to bring Zuko home as a hero who will win their father's esteem. She doesn't want the throne, and only talks about the glory of the Fire Nation, never personal glory. She just wants to make her dad happy with her and bring her brother home (and, possibly, avoid having Ozai burn off her face, though how much Zuko's scarring and banishment drive her perfectionist and obedience is never explicit).

3. Azula doing all of the emotional labor in her relationship with Zuko. (Note that this is typical of all his relationships, especially with women.) She warns Zuko about Azulon's demand that Ozai kill him; she reassures him that he's restored his own honor; she warns him that seeking out Iroh could be misinterpreted; she answers questions he asks her (about Sozin); she tries to cheer him up and include him in things at Ember Island.

You seem to be fooled by what Azula says, rather than looking at her actual choices. Zuko has his mantra that Azula always lies, but his examples (from Zuko alone) are only ever of her telling the truth. Azula's lie is the one she tells about her own motivations - she's tough and strong and independent and cruel and doesn't have human frailties. That's why she laughs off her own insecurities about her mother's affection on the beach, and it's why even at age 8 or 9 she can't express concern for Zuko and instead delivers the warning by taunting him. (You see throughout Zuko Alone that she's parroting Ozai.) It's why apologizing to Ty Lee and admitting she was jealous is such a huge character beat for Azula - the Beach is the only time we get behind her mask and see her vulnerabilities and awkwardness before Sozin's Comet.

And yes, I get that the show's narrative (musically, in how shots are framed, in adopting Zuko's perspective, etc.) promotes the idea that Azula mistreated Zuko, just like it promotes Zuko having been redeemed. But it's Zuko, not Azula, that we see throw a loaf of bread directly at a duck. And Zuko's angry, violent behavior towards even his allies is just the same in Sozin's Comet (Part I) as at the beginning of Season 1. Sometimes Avatar doesn't do a great job of telling you the same thing as it is showing you. Sometimes Avatar seems to lose track of what it's told you, and shows you things that are directly contradictory. Like how Zuko learned the true source of fire-bending, and that he's not using anger anymore - then never bends when he doesn't appear angry after that episode.

I feel like that's the creative pursuit that is bringing me the most joy and fueling my inspiration right now. But I don't want to view my other characters as abandoned either, I'll go back to working on them once the right mood strikes.

Resurrection AU: Void

In this AU, Void has been reincarnated as a little white puffball. He has no memory of his life before he was sealed away by the Heroes of Yore.

His main goal is to figure out who he actually was in his previous life. Aiding in this effort is Magolor, who's agreed to help in exchange for some assistance with his theme park work. He happens to be working on an ancient history-themed area, and could use a hand in the research process.

Personality-wise, Void is driven and has a no-nonsense attitude. He's not super thrilled about all this silly wizard theme park nonsense, but will do what it takes to get what he wants. He has a tendency to overwork himself. He doesn't seem to have retained any powers from his time as Void Termina.

Happy Birthday to one of the dazzling and radiant Silver Lions captains, Trent ArcCoil! I did want to have this digitized but motivation escaped me before I could do anything.

I had also wanted to draw him interacting with several Super League members, those including Skarra, Dingaan, Meda, Skipper, Caleb Judge, Lankey, and his teammates Sean, Shermie, Jill and his husband Oliver. I don’t think I could get those sketches done after my work, but if I do end up making them then I’ll post it tomorrow.

Also, I think I’m getting the hang of it when it comes to eyes, might just have to bring them closer later on. And the shoulder pad designs for the uniform, I think I’m liking where it’s going.
