thought it would be good to introduce the series into two parts and by that, i'll first start of w/ the basis of the series + classic!
what it is:
superbook is a christian animated show about two kids and a robot travelling back in time to learn about the bible. the protagonists, chris and joy (who are both neighbours and best friends), learn how to deal with moral dilemmas by experiencing them through time travel and demonstrating what they've seen on their journey in the real world
there are three shows in the franchise: superbook classic, superbook reimagined and gizmogo
as a collective, the franchise was and still is a well loved piece of animated christian media along with veggietales, the story keepers, friends and heroes and the greatest adventure
an introduction to classic:
• also known as animated parent and child theatre (s1) and personal computer travel detectives (s2)
• first started in 1981, ended in 1983-84
• the show is set during the 20th century
• classic was used as a project to introduce christianity to japan
• it was the first christian anime and one of the very first to start the isekai genre. (allegedly) its american debut was the first time in forever that a christian animated show went into syndication after davey and goliath in the states and one of the very first pieces of media to introduce anime to americans (and christians)
• originally, classic wasn't supposed to have the name "animated parent and child theatre". instead, the original name was supposed to be "the family adventure: based on old testament bible stories". this, of course, was changed to the current japanese title and in overseas countries, the show was either named "superbook" or "wonder book". sb's name was solely for the fact that it's a reference to the bible
• in 1979, cbn worked with two psychologists, young and rubicon, to determine what would work for spreading the gospel to japan. it turned out that animation/books were the best option and kids were one of the main sources of marketing because they would be open to the bible
• while it was airing in the us, most christian conservatives hated the show bc of its concept of two kids and a robot travelling back in time
• originally, it was supposed to be a japan-exclusive series. the reason? pat robertson (the creator) thought classic wouldn't be marketable outside japan because the show's originally japanese. it took cbn's marketing director, david clark, to convince robertson to have classic translated into english. while cbn was showing it to an expo in france, it was well received and cbn decided to do the english dub shortly after. the us debut was aired and watched in 10 million households
• the concept of children visiting places in the bible was unheard of during that time of (western) christian animation. it was mostly childlike characters and mascots that was telling children what to do, but not why they should do it (this was before sb showed up).
• (cont.) after sb's success, its sister show the flying house aired a year later, the vatican commissioned osamu tezuka to create the fourth anime about the bible and hanna barbera jumped on the bandwagon 4 years later by creating the greatest adventure which was the first christian western animated show that did the same thing sb did
• in japan, both animated parent and child theatre, personal computer travel detectives and the flying house are all part of what is nicknamed "the tatsunoko bible trilogy"
• the main characters' names were different depending on which geographical dub you were watching. for example, they were sho and azusa (jp), chris and aline (fr), luis and anita (es), chris and joy (en), chris and maria/ri (de) and chris* and susie (it) (*apparently his name was also ricky (?) in the italian dub)
• while she has a surname in the original japanese version, joy, in every single dub, doesn't have a specific surname like chris. her surname in the jp ver is yamato
• when it first aired in japan, cbn didn't realise the show was going to be a success at first. due to the airing, it had a plethora of 4-8 million viewers and the bible became one of the best selling books in japan at the time
• in international dubs, uri is written as chris' cousin. but in the original version, he's written as his brother
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
so that's pretty much all you need to know about classic! i got some of the information on the official fanpage for sb (no i'm not joking, cbn created a fanpage for the show while reimagined was still in development) so pretty much some of this is factual information

Adult Scooby-Doo TV Show Pitch
So, the idea with my theoretical Adult Swim Scooby-Doo TV Show is to avoid any inclination this is a reimagining. I'm envisioning this is as being a sort of continuation of the concepts and story present in Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, and Alien Invaders. But, attempting to keep up the original episodic format of "Where Are You?" and breaking some limits of what you can put these characters through.
Part of the reason "Zombie Island" works, is because these are the same characters we grew up with. But they're a little older now too. They all have jobs, they're long past high-school, they have adult expectations. But for the most part, Hanna-Barbera doesn't change anything about Mystery Inc's personality, and instead drops them into a scenario that is dark and gritty. Which makes it far more terrifying.
But another reason is Zombie Island keeps the inherent comedy without sacrificing the horror. Good stuff.
So how do you take the concepts of Zombie Island, and transform it into a monster of the week Scooby-Doo show?
Coast to Coast with Scooby-Doo!
Part I: The Plot
After the harrowing experiences dealing with true brushes with the supernatural and the paranormal, Daphne Blake is now more convinced then ever that she needs live footage of a real honest to good ghost. If they can get one on camera, and report it, this will be the find of a century.
Sticking with the original plan, Scoob & The Gang travel across America investigating real folklore and horrors, in hopes of finding something real.
Part II: The Formula
So, Coast to Coast With Scooby-Doo is kind of a mix of genres. But for the most part, I want it to be a Horror Comedy Mystery show, but it's also a road trip show. One of the things I liked about Zombie Island, is that it took place in New Orleans, and introduced us to real New Orleans cuisine. From beignets, to po' boys, crawdads, gumbo and jambalaya. But it also told us about the voodoo scene in New Orleans.
I'm now dead set on heading out to New Orleans sometime just to try the food, and I think that's something that can really help drag Scooby-Doo down to earth. It makes you really want to visit these places, and maybe investigate a haunting while you're there too.
So, here's the setup.
Spooky Cold Open, probably a Murder
Theme Song
Scoob & The Gang ride the mystery machine into town, probably with some sort of banter. Velma brings up where they're going, and Shag is like "Yo man, it's been a minute since we've been out to New York! You guys think Trinidad Golden Palace is still open? Like they had one crazy Shark Sandwich dude!" Then another member of the gang brings up they're actually looking to go to the statue of Liberty, where, by the way, there is ACTUAL rumors of buried treasure and ghosts. This changes depending on local
The gang stumble upon mystery, ask questions, find out gruesome details, meet suspects. Daphne & Fred interview some people.
They film the hauntings as they're happening, and search for clues.
Then, as the episode progresses we figure out whether or not this thing is real or fake. If it's real, the gang have to find a way to take down the monster using ingenuity and what they've found in the episode, or they have to capture the culprit and breakdown the mystery.
Small things, but I feel like having a constant bet between characters whether or not it's real or if it's fake would be something really fun actually. I think the audience would have fun getting in on the question too, and guessing along with the gang.
Part III: The Adult Part
So, this is a show for adults, but the fact it's FOR adults will not override that it IS Scooby-Doo. Which is to say, that it will have murder, swearing, mentions of sex, but it will not go beyond what you expect in terms of tone from Scooby-Doo. It's a fun horror comedy mystery show about 4 friends and their dog who investigate spooky mysteries. You can't change that core premise or you risk it no longer being Scooby-Doo and something else entirely.
So if you need a member of the gang to swear for a scene, you can, but it can't breach too far out of character for the group. Like Fred can say fuck, but he's still the leader Dad type guy who likes Daphne, and likes building absurd rube goldberg type traps. Shaggy can smoke weed, but he's still the goofy moral center of the group. He makes fun sandwiches, he cracks dumb jokes, he's scared of getting stabbed, but he sticks around for his friends. Velma can be a lesbian, but she's still the quirky smart character who loves books and science.
But most importantly you need to make sure it's still abundantly clear to the audience that no matter how much drama or crazy shit they see, Scoob & The Gang are all best friends who love working together.

MAX's Jellystone offers animation fans a surreal take on #CartoonNetwork icons.
The show focuses on #HannaBarbera characters such as Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and Snagglepuss. Recently, it introduced characters from Space Ghost, like Zorak, Brak, and Moltar. The latest development announces a significant crossover event called "Crisis on Infinite Mirths," featuring classic Cartoon Network heroes and villains like the #PowerpuffGirls, Mojo Jojo, and Dexter.
Since launching in 2021, Jellystone has reimagined Hanna-Barbera's characters in comedic scenarios and has even parodied anime classics. The show continues to stream on MAX, bringing together characters in a quirky town setting.

⭐Hi! I'm a 35 year-old woman (She/Her) who's just recently come back to Tumblr RP. I'm a writer by trade, and am looking to practice and indulge myself by rewriting some of my favourite stories and characters. All of my blogs feature ground-up reimagined AUs and stories with lots of canon divergent and headcanon-based material, but I am totally cool with writing with more canon complaint folks so long as they're OK with what makes my take on these characters unique. You can find all the details in my About pages if you're interested. I'll say my range is 18+, purely due to the occasionally dark and serious subject matter on one of my blogs. I currently write two characters with a third in the works across the Resident Evil, Josie and the Pussycats and Final Fantasy fandoms, with lots of crossover potential. I might add more in the future, if people enjoy writing with me. My current characters are Jill Valentine Melody Valentine Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy Tactics) Jill and Melody have multiple crossover verses with each other, as well as one with Gravity Falls. Melody is de facto set up to interact with any other classic-oriented Archie Comics characters, if there are any Hanna-Barbera Josie writers or if anyone here writes the Filmation or DIC Entertainment versions of The Archies and Sabrina the Teenage Witch cast. She also gets along swimmingly with anyone from Scooby-Doo. Aerith's blog isn't out yet, but hopefully will be soon. Her primary verse is my take on the Final Fantasy "Ivalice Alliance" subseries, but she obviously also goes well with characters from Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts. She also has an AU set in the world of The Elder Scrolls.
I don't have any specific pairings in mind as I'm mostly looking for general RP, but I'm not opposed to shipping threads depending on the request and context: I'll at least hear anything. Jill and Melody have "canon" partners in my verses (If Melody's blog doesn't state this yet it will once it gets updated in the near future, hopefully by the time you read this, as it's a recent development), but Aerith doesn't. I would probably be most game to write Male x Female and Female x Female threads. I'm not interested in overtly NSFW shipping either, at least not right away: That's the kind of thing I will only engage with in private with known and trusted partners. More idiosyncratic and character-specific rules and guidelines are on the blogs' Rules pages. If anything here sounds good to you, please like or reblog and I'll get back to you when I can (and for the mod, you need only tag the fandoms I've made bold and highlighted, for Tumblr reasons!). You can find me here: Jill @mystalwartheart Melody @sillylittlelovesong I'm also open to potentially writing on Discord. Anyone looking for Aerith, you can DM one of the other two blogs and/or I can get back to you! Thanks in advance, and I'm hoping to meet some of you!⭐

The Price May Be Right - Number 22
Welcome to “The Price May Be Right!” I’m counting down My Top 31 Favorite Vincent Price Performances & Appearances! The countdown will cover movies, TV productions, and many more forms of media. Today we focus on Number 22: Vincent Van Ghoul, from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
Hanna-Barbera’s “The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo” was a different kind of Scooby-Doo series. At the time, the studio was experimenting with new ways of working with the Scooby gang: while Shaggy and Scooby himself were always present, they began working with new side characters to join them. The company also started toying with the idea of them solving mysteries that involved real supernatural entities, rather than cases that simply involved criminal masterminds in disguise. Some of these experiments worked, others did not, but they set the stage for many future Scooby-Doo projects: nowadays, Mystery Inc. faces real ghosts and goblins just as often as they do masked hoodlums who would get away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids! And while the core gang of the series would, eventually, recrystallize and remain constant for decades to come, some of the new characters imagined for these early creations still found life in later stories. One of the most memorable of these side characters was Vincent Van Ghoul from “13 Ghosts.” Voiced by and drawn as a caricature of Vincent Price (obviously), Van Ghoul was a mysterious but thankfully friendly warlock, who was given the job of guarding the legendary Chest of Demons. The Chest – a sort of riff on Pandora’s Box – was a wooden trunk that contained the thirteen most evil spirits to ever roam the world, trapped so their evil could be contained. After Scooby and Shaggy are tricked into opening the box, and setting the evil spirits free, they are forced to help Vincent recapture all thirteen ghosts and send them back into their cursed prison. The pair are joined in their quest by the classic character of Daphne, along with a new associate, Flim-Flam – a young and sparky con-artist, who…isn’t well-liked by fans, to say the least. While Flim-Flam never really got much love, Van Ghoul was popular with fans of the Scooby series. Something about this dark but good-hearted sorcerer, with the powerful vocals of Price behind him, really managed to enchant audiences. He was like a cross between Dracula and Professor X: a wise mentor with a ton of power behind him, and a Gothic sense of style. In fact, in more recent years – despite the loss of Price himself – the character has managed to reappear in more modern Scooby-Doo works. In “Mystery Incorporated,” the character was reimagined as a direct parody of Vincent Price: a classic horror actor who appeared in movies that were, themselves, satires of Price’s pictures. Later still, the original Van Ghoul would reappear in the feature-length special “Curse of the 13th Ghost.” In these later reappearances, Van Ghoul would be voiced by Maurice LaMarche. He does a decent impression of dear ol’ Vinnie…but nothing can really hold a candle to the original Vincent Price. While “The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo” may largely have been an unpopular entry in the franchise, Price’s appearance in it has only helped to solidify his own legacy. Tomorrow, the countdown continues with my pick for Number 21!

HBO Max’s ‘Velma’ scorched by critics, audiences: ‘so insulting to the Scooby-Doo fan base’
HBO Max has just released a reimagined spinoff of the popular, long-running kids show “Scooby-Doo.” Despite the association with the Hanna-Barbera original, it’s being marketed as “adult” and features limbs being severed, one of the main characters going to a strip club with her dad, and two teenage boys making out at their high school. The results have been criticized by viewers and critics…

Especially when he and clowder can be reimagined (as per Top Cat and the Beverly Hills Cats) living in the general vicinity of Hollywood and Vine, still being their mischievously feline selves and yet having a fondness for the likes of hot shaved pastrami sandwiches, 3rd and Fairfax, isolated beaches, tourist meet-and-greets and diving off Catalina Island.
