something about percy nearly dying at luke's hand at the end of tlt ruffles my bones. because imagine feeling like a burden to anyone who dared to care for you. imagine blaming yourself for the death of your mother. imagine grieving in black and white amid a world of color. and then an older brother sees you for all of your sorrow and pain. your cries for help that go unanswered. your longing for a reason to breathe again. and becoming someone you look forward to confiding in when the dust settles. only to discover that their source of light was merely a flame. and the summer air was always meant to burn you alive. truly haunting.

Day 16 - Time

I think an important note about luke’s character is that he genuinely didn’t want to hurt percy OR grover (at first). he didnt want grover to wear the shoes bc that was his protector as well. and he knew percy wouldn’t die if he was pulled into tartarus. it isn’t until he realizes percy isn’t actually on his side that he turns on him.

and actually, it isn’t until percy brings up his father, the man he’s despised since the beginning who made him feel this way, and tries to defend him that luke goes after percy

which means that in the end, luke would do anything for his cause. him not wanting to hurt his close friends doesn’t make him sympathetic, because while percy tried to help luke, luke used percy’s fatal flaw against him. luke may not have wanted to kill percy or grover, but it doesn’t matter because the fact that he would have done it anyway speaks louder
