A Spooky Salute to Writers! 

Fanfic readers rejoice! For this Halloween we would like to celebrate the fandom’s writers with you!  If you want to showcase your love for your favourite fanfictions and writers, we invite you to submit a little treat for them – you have plenty of options if you’re feeling creative, but general fic recommendations are welcomed, too; we prepared a few questions to help you!

What content can you create?

Gifsets

Graphics (Canva has great templates)

Fanart (drawings, paintings, collages, anything handmade)

Spotify playlists (Canva has an album cover template section as well)

Moodboards (Canva has templates and designs, Pinterest can help with the aesthetics, and you can find free stock photos on Pexels)

Fic rec questionnaire (more about this below)

Anything else that comes to your mind! 

If you don’t feel so creative, don’t worry, we prepared a few questions for you so you can still show your love for the fandom’s writers! 

Rules

The name of the celebration comes from the date and from the notion that you’re sharing treats, but your creations and recommendations don’t need to be Halloween themed!

Please post all your treats and recs between 28-31 October!

Please use the hashtag #pedrostorieshallowreads23, as we’re going to create a masterlist of all the treats, so we would like to track all of them! 

You can post as many treats as you want to, but please post them separately! 

If you post a fic rec with our questionnaire, you can answer as many questions as you want (and if you’re undecided, you can recommend more fics for one question!). Please make sure you follow the template - don’t forget to link the fic in the title and tag the writer, and we would be happy if you could add your personal thoughts about the story, but of course it’s not mandatory! The fic recs can all be in one post.

Imptober 2024 wrapped up as of last week, and it was a phenomenal turnout. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Imperial Kinktober 2024 challenge! As of today, there are 170 fanworks posted in the collection (which you can check out on ao3 here).

To celebrate this excellent batch of Imperial fanworks, I’ve put together some infographics showcasing interesting stats in the ship & character tags, as well as a spotlight corner for some of our contributors. we are currently running our first larger server event! the event entails creating a halloween-themed piece of fanart (or other type of fanwork) of the show. a winner (who will receive a prize--check out the details in the server!) will be determined via voting on Halloween day, and all pieces will be showcased in the events channel!

the server is nearly at 80 members, which is a huge milestone for us! please feel free to drop in; even if just to look around and check it out. we do a daily question of the day, schedule a bootleg steam every other weekend or so, regularly host whiteboards, and are planning another major event to run from November to December--so there is a lot to do if you're into that kind of thing! otherwise, it's a very relaxed space to share art and chat.

Welcome to the brand new Charmie Autumn Festival -- Fall in Love with Charmie. See what I did there? Lol

Let's get our collective creative (peach) juices flowing. The festival will run all of October, so if you're like me and the writing gods strike at odd times, you'll have until Halloween night. 🎃

I got this brilliant idea from the Merlin fandom and their fluffapalooza, I hope they won't mind I basically charmie-fied their idea. Big love to them.

So what's the festival about?

Need some inspo? Want some distraction? Need to read about the boys in all their sweater-wearing glory?

You got it! You'll find a list of prompts below that'll help you create awesome fanwork. Let us showcase all the amazing talent we have in this fandom.

Here are the prompts:

Rules

Write, draw, edit and gif to your heart's content... but each fanwork must connect one prompt from each column. I mean who wouldn't want to read about a royal family of vampires who love their pumpkin spice lattes mixed with a little blood? 😆 The possibilities look endless, I know.

Are you thinking fluffy or kinky? It's all good -- the only requirement is that it must have a happy ending.

Some guidelines:

Add your fics and fanart to the AO3 collection here, which will open on Sunday, October 1 and close on Tuesday, October 31.

If you prefer to post your works on tumblr, no problem! Please use the tag #fall in love with charmie during the festival, and I'll be sure to reblog and share the love here.

For fic writers: multi-chapters are accepted, but please be sure to complete it by the end of the Festival.

If you'd like to include more than one prompt from each column, that's perfectly fine!

If you prefer to create with Elio/Oliver and CMBYN, you're more than welcome to join. The more the merrier.

I'll be adding some new prompts throughout the festival to keep it interesting. If there's any you'd like to see, send me an ask!

One star from an Adult. A tough crowd these ones.

Join me, dear Reader, as I Torto breakdown the points of this review one. By. One.

1) "Nobody will like this lackluster 'game'"

*hysterical, borderline-demonic hyena laugh*

But seriously, given the amount of fanart, mods, YouTube videos, and blogs dedicated to this game it seems like the word "nobody" implies whole swaths of people in the definition. *Sparticus voice* I AM NOBODY!

2) "The same man is copy-pasted at least 6 times"

Most people who complain about this haven't done the bare minimum of research to discover that, yes, they are all one man. That is, of course, Paul "Incredible Polo" Malburet, who voiced them all. It's meant to showcase what *just one man* can do with his (aptly named) incredible voice. Love you, Polo❤️

3) "There's really nothing to do but click on the men to produce lackluster sounds"

Say that to his adorable face, I dare you!

Risk being the target of Gallic Rage!

4) "Sure, there are different costumes but they do nothing to enhance the game"

OP must be really fun at Halloween parties /s. Repeat after me: "Costumes enhance *everything*!" Also, now that you've taken a shot at Paul, you can't resist taking a shot at Romain as well, how thoughtful. Love you too, Bily❤️

5) "There are no puzzles [or] prize wheels"

Okay, I'll give them this one. Even though the bonuses are kind of like puzzles, no puzzle just gives you the answer by hovering over the icon. However, I think this is one of the things that makes Incredibox so special: It's not about puzzles. It isn't one of those instant gratification, constant rush of dopamine games(which, imo, are on par with the "brainrot" section of YouTube). Just like writing your own music, you have to stew on it for a while, see what works, and most of all enjoy it! Experimentation can be fun!

6) "There's no way to customize the look-alike men -they're all in boring black and white"

First, see my rebuttal to point #2. Second, this just tells me you didn't play past Little Miss(which is all but confirmed later). LM is only the second version. Each version gets better than the last as the guys hone their craft. Even your oh-so-despised costumes get better! In Jeevan alone you have practically all the colors of the goddamn rainbow! At the end of the day, even though Incredibox is more about the music than anything else, the costumes are a neat bonus that keep things visually interesting. Long story short, if you want customization The Sims is right there.

7) "The game is so boring I quit after 1 minute"

While I'm pretty sure 1 minute is an exaggeration, this does pretty much confirm OP didn't play past Little Miss. Geez, even a goldfish would know you need to pay attention for more a minute to accurately assess the quality of a game.

8)"It takes about 25 minutes to load the game"

This one's just a flat out lie.

9) "The developer isn't even updating the game anymore...terribly outdated...stuck in 2019"

Patience, Grasshopper. The latest bonus for Wekiddy was released only 9-10 months ago. That isn't forever. I'm sure all three guys are working their culs off to get the third one out in a timely manner. Especially Allan, who I haven't mentioned yet. Love you as well, Al❤️

Also define "stuck in 2019"? What does a game have to do in order to be worthy of the 2020s, include a Covid-themed version?

10) "Forget about Incredibox and just get My Singing Monsters instead"

...you're lucky TV Tropes lists us as Friendly Fandoms, or I would get mad at that. I however won't because I'm mad enough.

A quick question: do works have to explicitly feature Byler or is it okay to focus on just Will or just Mike?

Hello hello!! We're all so glad that folks are excited!!

As for your question: We really want fanworks for this event to feature Byler in some capacity. Even if the romance between Will and Mike isn't explicitly highlighted in the work, we need at least some allusion to Byler.

For example, if you make fanart of just Will + Halloween, give the fanart a caption that connects back to Byler. If you're writing a ficlet about just Mike trapped in the Upside Down alone on Halloween, have him think about Will.

We want Bylerween to showcase our two favorite dudes facing the spooky season together in some way. Let us know if you want any further clarification, and feel free to message us directly about your idea if you want to talk specifics! :)

EDIT: After some talk between mods, we did want to make a slight adjustment here to our previous response. We do know that including both Mike and Will in fanworks is more difficult within some mediums than others, especially for gifsets makers. With that in mind, we WILL be accepting fanworks that are on-theme and focused on just Will or just Mike.

We are aiming for as much Byler focus as possible within everyone's creative ideas, and capabilities within the medium they want to use to celebrate Bylerween with us, but also want to make sure everyone is able to participate and not exclude certain fanworks that aren't able to include both Mike and Will within the themes set for each day.
