#haja estree headcanon

My hot take is that the new characters Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced - Haja, Reva, Tala - are all wonderful and extremely compelling.

Haja is the sort of person who wanted to be a Jedi as a kid, who played at having Force powers and going on adventures to save the galaxy.

Then he grew up. He's not Force sensitive, and the Jedi were all declared traitors and killed, and the Empire rose, and who has time for dreams when they are busy dealing with each day. Living takes credits, so his help comes with a price tag and he'll build a character to encourage them to pay.

But there's still a part of him that is that small boy, playing at being a Jedi and believing in making the galaxy a better place, one person at a time.

Okay but Haja is such a good twist.

Because we're set up with: ah, here is the comic relief bad guy. He's faking being a Jedi, he's scamming people. Oh ho he had the Jedi right in front of him he could have been rich!

But nope. Yes he's taking credits, but he is helping the mother and child get off world.

And he doesn't set up Obi-Wan when he tells him about a ship.

He literally goes in front of an Inquisitor playing Jedi.

Usually characters like this are set up as cowards, but he's not.

In fact when Obi-Wan holds him up I'm pretty sure the reason he helps isn't the blaster on his chest but Obi-Wan telling him there's a girl who's kidnapped.

He's using the Jedi as a symbol of hope to draw people to him because he does seem to want to help, but he's not selfless he probably needs credits to run his operation.

The Show has shown us Obi-Wan is at rock bottom and the universe has kicked him in the face, but he keeps meeting people who are so brave, who help him inadvertently like the girl who gives him spice, and overtly like Haja.

Obi-Wan can't be Obi-Wan Kenobi for the universe right now.

So others have to be Obi-Wan Kenobi. Others have to be brave and stick out their necks and help people.

Like yes, we had our sad Obi-Wan in the desert moment. Loved that.

Now we're getting Obi-Wan with hope restored.

But to do that he has to let go of his attachment to the past. To his grief and guilt and Anakin.

This Jedi Haja Estree fic! We got so little of him in canon, and when he did appear, the show seemed determined to fight my headcanon that he’s actually a Jedi 😅 but idc, he is to me

Being wanted by the Empire—the Inquisitors, no less—made it much harder to stay alive than what you were previously doing to make ends meet. So you and Haja had to leave your home, everything behind. You boarded a ship that would take you to safety. And on that ship, you felt safety in the man next to you, curling up against him and listening to his heartbeat, which varied every few minutes.

“We’re going to be okay, y/n. I know we are.” Haja whispered to you and placed a kiss atop of your head. You smiled tiredly and squeezed his hand tight.

“It’s funny, you and I have spent so much time together that you couldn’t lie to me to save your life.” You dryly chuckled, just trying to keep it together yourself. “We’re okay for now. That’s all.”

“Oh, where do I even begin?” You chuckled and took a gentle sip from your glass. “Where were you born?”

“Oh, that’s highly classified.” Haja shot back and your brows raised. “I’d rather share backstory on a third date at least.” You thought he was joking, but he was a bit set on the idea. “There will be a third date, right?”
