Hi! Do you think making Sasuke stay in Konoha is ooc? Why or why not because there are so many fanfics that go like Naruto brings Sasuke back in the village he's either imprisoned or rendered unable to use his powers and somehow persuaded to stay in the village and not enough Naruto and Sasuke leave the village together exploring the world trying to help other villages and connect with people that share similar experiences with them while also developing their own relationship together. I don't know this feels more true to their characters. Also would this be something you'd like to explore in your future stories? Love your writing!

Hey anon!! I love this phrasing like an essay question hahaha okay okay lemmie get some brainstorming started

So first off, I’ve written both of these! Not the imprisonment scenario specifically, but I do have some fics with Sasuke in Konoha. So I don’t think it’s ooc, necessarily. I definitely think of the two choices, it’s the tougher one to write - you really have to work on justifying it in Sasuke’s head. Sasuke staying in Konoha, to me, relies on probably one of two things: (1) the world can’t change without his help, and he’s ready to help it again, and/or (2) Konoha is unrecognizable as what it once was, and now Sasuke sees it as another place entirely. I did a mix of those in Rebuilding; [SPOILERS if you haven’t read it] they do go travelling at the end, but they also have a house in Konoha, and Sasuke reconnects to the Uchiha compound. Naruto also really needs his help, as the person leading the charge—and Sasuke not only sees that he’s trying & struggling, but he knows Naruto can do it. In the fic, anyway. So that’s a way I think it can work; Sasuke hates Konoha but I don’t think his desire to change the ninja system is gone or anything. I think he’d either want to be 100% out of the loop, or find it really, really hard not to get involved, because anything that stalled Naruto’s efforts or what have you would infuriate him.

And I think this debate/choice is especially tough for them as a pairing, because either Sasuke needs manage to be okay with Konoha (which, in canon, he really really isn’t), or Naruto needs to be able to detangle himself from Konoha (which, in canon, he really really can’t). This is part of the reason my canonverse fics end up being so long lmao. It takes so much development to get anywhere!!!

But yeah, I’ve done both and I think both can work. It’s a really interesting challenge to try to tackle, too. Right now I’m tackling more of them being out, travelling together in Two is a Crowd - I feel like I’ve being going that route a lot recently, but it does still involve exploring Sasuke’s relationship with Konoha a lot. Especially because Naruto tends to be the Hokage, or getting ready to be, etc etc. It’s pretty hard to try and write Sasuke healing without dealing with the absolute hatred & fury he’s carrying around in some shape or form. And it’s not that much of a jump for the next step to be him being able to go there as part of the healing process, and maybe he's just thrown in head first by being imprisoned and is forced to confront his hatred all at once - that could happen. It'd be a really intense bit of time for him and probably involve a lot of breaking down, but if something could convince him to breathe for a little while and focus on the parts of his life that aren't bringing back trauma long enough to prove that Konoha is changing or something like that - yeah, I could see that. And you know, now that I think about it, I did start writing something like that years ago! It's in my notebook somewhere. It's basically just the start where Sasuke is absolutely furious & lashing out at everything hahaha. Can't blame him! I never finished it though. It'd be a much more intense & less peaceful sort of process for sure, but it could work.

This is a bit of a wishy-washy answer hahaha, but I'm a big believer in being able to make almost anything work with enough justification & development within the story. I think that's part of the fun. So something really tough, like making Sasuke okay enough with Konoha to happily live there, is totally a challenge I'd love to see tackled. Does that make sense? Does this all make sense? I'm rambling at you now.

At a certain point, it doesn’t even feel like Rafe is breaking your heart; you’re the one doing it to yourself when you expect every explosion of his to be the last.

He never lays a hand on you, but he starts fights out of no where, spiralling into indignation and hostility. If anything, he’s more destructive to himself than he is to your relationship.

He’s spiteful when he’s upset. You know him well enough to recognize he’s not really mad at you most of the time. When he feels like he’s losing his mind, you’re an anchor, calm and kind and gracious, encouraging him to talk about what’s really upsetting him.

When things turn vicious, you don’t always give him the satisfaction of fighting back. The glimpses of his gentle soul are what keep you around. He’s breaks, but you put him back together.

You know it’s not all his fault. When Rafe first opened up to you about how his father has dismissed him and told him to man up all his life, anger bubbles inside of you. It’s not fair.

Deep down, Rafe is a sweet boy, and your mind constantly wanders down the path of who he’d be if he was loved growing up. The potential of what he could have been is what’s most painful of all.

He self-sabotages. You can tell. When he’s mean, hurling accusations at you that you don’t even care about him, you can see past it enough to realize he’s trying to ruin his own happiness.

At the end of every conflict, he crumbles into tears, nervously chewing on his thumbnail, trembling, whimpering about not wanting to lose you.

Rafe can’t imagine a world without you.

He’s hard to love. He knows he is. When he acts unreasonably - getting mad over something and fighting with you even when you had nothing to do with it, giving into his anxious thoughts that you’re cheating on him, trying to control you or boss you around - it’s like he’s witnessing himself do it. It’s a horror movie when he watches himself losing it.

You know you can leave. As they say, women are not rehabilitation centres for badly raised men. But it’s work you want to do, because when he lets out his tender side, showering you in hugs and kisses and compliments, smiling so lovingly and brightly in a way that makes the bad times seem like nothing in comparison, you know it’s worth it.

Every time you guide him out of the dark, understanding him better than he understands himself, he thinks about how lost he would be without you. You see it all, every ugly side of him, and you stay. And he would pray to whoever’s listening that you stay forever.

rewatching I nearly blinded myself and damn if I was Phil I would have resorted to physical violence because wdym he was filming a video when they should have been leaving, didn't pack, wouldnt let go of the nasty smushed muffin and then went ahead and sprayed deodorant in his eye

It's only a short film and the cast is so (bizarrely) stacked I don't reaaallllly imagine they'll have any scenes together or even have been on set at the same time, but who knows.

But yeah, what I had in mind for this au is like,, a mission that went awry. I had this au prior to the reveal of chapter 7, but w chapter 7 in the works, well, ofc this now turned to some sort of canon divergent au

The main premise is that yeah a mission that went awry and Vertin and her team retreated back to the Suitcase somewhere safe. The thing is, Vertin became desperate, she knew they were outnumbered, it was a losing battle, especially how injured some of her friends are. So she decided on smth

Once she was sure everyone was inside the suitcase, she called in Sonetto, y'know, asked her to have a walk a her outside the suitcase. And stuff happened, Sonetto seeing Vertin seal the suitcase shut, and she's there wondering why, and suddenly Vertin gives her a teleport ritual, as she hands her the suitcase too. Vertin telling her that hey, the seal will be broken once Sonetto finds a safe place to stay, she doesn't care where, the Foundation, Green Lake, Laplace, as long as it's safe, as long as it's far away as to where they currently are

Sonetto ofc refused, she's not leaving the Timekeeper behind, but Vertin was desperate, she doesn't want anyone to get hurt anymore, and used her authority as Timekeeper and Sonetto's superior to order her to leave, to find a safe place, and aughgh ur honour it's so messy, that Vertin really has to shove Sonetto out the way bc she can hear the footsteps of the Manus followers. And so, Sonetto ran, and ran, as far away as she could, before using the ritual, teleporting back to the Foundation

And this is where things get fun ouo

But like, I don't think I can really type it out in its entirety bc hey I might get reported, but in a nutshell it involves Schneider's guns, Arcana's manipulation and illusions (like that scene in c2), Vertin's old friends, Schneider's guns shoved in Vertin's mouth, cannibalism, and oranges lmfao

So mind break, in a way, Arcana breaking Vertin so much so to the point that Vertin's mind doesn't know what's real and what's not anymore. Vertin being so vulnerable, that it was the perfect time for Arcana to just,, lodge her wand through Vertin's head too, taking full control of her

I had this idea that,, Arcana really played the role of Vertin well

Bc she came back to the Foundation, and ofc, in he eyes of everyone it's just Vertin, finally she's back, finally she's home, as her team rushes to her and was so damn happy she's back. Vertin even apologized to Sonetto, for using her authority to push her away, but Sonetto always tried to understand her, she knew it was for the best

But yeah I think a few would notice

Druvis would, I think she would, bc she was from Manus, she's familiar w the aura Arcana has, she feels it from Vertin. But in her mind, well, ofc, bc Vertin was kinda held hostage by Manus, by Arcana, perhaps Vertin was still getting used to not being there anymore, that the stench of death that usually follows Manus Vindictae would be temporary on Vertin

I think Regulus would notice too, solely for the fact Vertin now doesn't indulge her on listening to their favourite record. Vertin never refused that, not ever, that was the first alarm that went off her head. The second is when Vertin started using that baton of a wand she has more and more, and she uses it in a way that hey, it's not like a conductor leading an orchestra, no, it's more like a seasoned arcanist w a deep knowledge of magic

And Sonetto, ofc, ever perceptive, always w the Timekeeper. Back then, whenever Vertin looks at her, it makes her feel warm inside, knowing she still has her by her side. Now, whenever Vertin looks at her, well,, she feels uneasy, like she's a prey being stalked by a predator, that one wrong move and she'll get killed. But,, that can't be, the Timekeeper is the kindest person she knows, so,, what's wrong?

But also can you imagine, in Vertin's mindscape, Arcana just forces her to watch as she gains the trust of Vertin's friends. Oh, how exciting it'd be to watch them all fall one by one once they find out the truth. Or rather, once they fall by the hands of their precious Timekeeper, of their dearest friend Vertin.
