I agree with that, but I think the generally agreed reason that egg jokes can be bad, is that they can make people afraid of exploring their gender expression.
I've seen a lot of egg jokes made about men who enjoy drag or crossdressing, or who simply try makeup or nailpolish, and not only is it reinforcing stereotypes ("you can't be a man if you like traditionally feminine or camp things, you must be secretly a woman"), it puts pressure on someone who is being vulnerable by defying restrictive social norms. An egg joke isn't just "haha, sounds like you might be trans", it's "haha, you are acting in a way that is unexpected for your perceived gender so we are going to question that gender earlier than you are comfortable with". It punishes the person for their exploration of gender by making unwanted assumptions about them, and may have the backfiring effect of scaring them out of exploring further.
Plus, in a way, egg jokes are humiliating, or they would not be jokes. Jokes humiliate the person they are made at the expense of. A joke is rarely about something positive, unless it's second degree. If I say "haha, you are ugly", it either means you are actually ugly and I am insulting you, or you are actually very beautiful and I am using irony to compliment you. But saying "haha, you are beautiful" can only mean I am insulting you through irony, because there is nothing funny about a genuine compliment. Therefor, a joke saying "haha, you might be trans" implies that "you might be trans" is either insulting or untrue, or it wouldn't be a joke.
Considering how personal gender exploration is, I would recommend against joking about it for the previously explained reasons. A more productive way of suggesting transness would be doing it genuinely ("Have you considered that you might not be cis? Because [insert reasons]...") or celebrating it ("Wooh! That's so cool! I do that too! Hey, let me know if you want to go further, okay?"). That being said, I think egg jokes are irresistible when someone is being transphobic and arguing while saying things that sound very egg-like ("I'd love to be a girl, but I'm not trans, ew"), but I think that's because here, the joke is about them being in denial rather than them possibly being trans.
Phew! Sorry about the essay, this sparked quite the train of thought XD I guess what I'm trying to say is, I agree that possibly being trans is not and should never be implied to be a bad thing, but egg jokes can still be harmful if used innappropriately.
TLDR : Egg jokes can be bad because they are counterproductive and may scare potentially trans people back into the closet, and depending on the situation can imply that calling someone trans is an insult, but joking about someone transphobic refusing to recognize their own trans leanings is okay in my opinion.
Also, going back to the first point of the post, yeah, there is never an excuse for deadnaming people on purpose, ever. I'd assume the best of people who deadname things, but I understand the discomfort around notoriously disrespectful people.
"I deadname Twitter and the gulf of mexico" is not a joke I'm comfy with a cis making tbqh. ever since I saw that cis guy say "making egg jokes about me is bad for the same reason as misgendering trans people is bad" I've realized that these people really have a second grader's understanding of the world and if we let them get away with that joke for too long they might start deadnaming Blaire White or some shit

man do i feel like crying finishing this game.
the way they connected so many past cases to this final one is amazing. seems like everything connects to the DL-6 incident somehow lol. how Misty Fey failed her channeling on that case, Miles's phobia of earthquakes, leading all up to him losing sight of the suspect, which then made a chance for them to swap places with a twin. wow they truly planned this ahead didn't they.
playing as Miles!!! that was really entertaining. his inner monologues are hilarious. he flew all the way to Japan just because of Phoenix okay??? totally normal about this. and Franziska also flew from Germany just to have a chance at battling(?) Phoenix again (not surprised).
not them being in cahoots fooling the judge that Miles is a defense attorney HAHAH yeah siblings. loveee how they both ended up helping Phoenix big time in this case. like "eh since I flew all the way here why not" Franziska showing her kindness albeit being all snarky about it haha who are you fooling you're just a softie inside.
aww are you worried? she just randomly decided to follow Phoenix around welp that's cute... argh i love her she's so precious, they'll never make me hate you Franziska von karma<3
okay first time i saw him my first thoughts was that he's a relative of Diego. not being Diego himself. damn i thought he actually came from the depths of hell. as in like, zombies. there's spirit channeling, so another weird thing would be totally normal right? i was wrong.
people in this game hop jobs like hopscotch from lawyers to prosecutors to detectives (talking about lana) it's so unserious (i love it).
tbh this case was quite confusing even when there's all sorts of evidence. it would be very helpful if they explained the whole timeline of the murder in order at the end. because with all the channeling it was confusing who's body is who and where everyone actually is, or was that again, just me? they said Iris betrayed Dahlia when she planned the fake kidnapping? or when she killed her stepsister? or both? how did she betray her, i mean how exactly did she run away??
Godot said he contacted Misty and Iris. so Misty and Iris were in cahoots right? so she lied that she didn't know Elise was Misty then. god so many questions i should open up wiki later.
their story was such a tragedy:( and Maya oh Maya....... she probably only figured out Elise was her mom after she got killed right in front of he. but she had to be strong for Pearl. my poor little girls....i wanna hug them so bad. this whole fiasco is very fucked up. also did Misty refuse Maya to help cook because she might find out it's her mom?
Maya probably held deep in her heart on the fact that her mom, although missing, is still alive out there somewhere. and now... she's really gone.
i'm glad she's got a home with Pearl and Phoenix now. there's also Detective Gumshoe, Edgeworth, Franziska, and all the friends they made along the way who'll always look out for her. I wish we could see Maya and Franziska slowly becoming friends, they're nineteen! they should be at the club!!

i'm gonna miss them all so much... i haven't played the other games (yet) but i'm pretty sure nothing can top the original trilogy. quirky characters with personalities, unmatched goofiness, emotional sibling bonds, and overall a really really good story. it will stay with me forever<3

#new age au#Geno is very tall (tall Geno supremacy <3) and Reaper usually floats so he's just slightly taller than Geno on any normal day <3#if he unties his robe in the back it drags along the floor at the perfect height to feign being very tall-#ohh I have so many thoughts about them :]#Geno's magic manifests as crystals so he wears some on his outfit (and keeps more in his pockets)#the black and purple ones on his belt are meant to be a little reference to Reaper (and Dust. before meeting him he only has a black one-)#Geno also uses a Cane! he's insanely skilled and powerful but on sone days magic fatigue finally catches up to him and he has to use it#the black half-robe was also the only accessory Reaper could convince Geno to adopt from his kingdom- that and the Sandals haha-#(I like to think Error made Geno's scarf-)#and ofc Reaper...#he's been ruling for so long that he lives in comfort rather than appearance because. i mean. no one is going to doubt him at this point#he leaves his ribcage exposed as a show of his confidence in his rule (direct access to his soul basically-) but also because. well.#he thinks he's eye-candy 🙏#and in his kingdom the crown/sign of royalty are those olive branch circlets#he wears his over his hood usually. Why did it take my landlords' young kid pulling a prank on me to realize I do in fact have unprocessed ptsd
#it shouldn't have upset me this bad and yet here i am trying to stop crying on my way to pick tiny up from kindergarten#our apartment shares a door with our landlords'. and they have a 5~7 yo#who thought it would be very funny haha to randomly try and force our door open at odd hours#now mind you we don't have a shelter room of our own. we usually run to theirs so the door is unlocked most of the time#but after a few of those surprise privacy breaches and after calling out to the kid and asking them politely to stop-#which of course caused them to run away giggling and doing it again after a couple minutes-#we locked the door. only for things to escalate#they had friends over and together started rattling the handle and trying to force the door open#and them pressed their face to it and started mimicking sirens#which takes like one second to realize it's not an actual alert but still gives the initial pang of panic and stomach drop#not to mention made tiny very anxious and confused as well#welp. i thought it was over but today they were at it again#and i finally managed to catch the parents on the phone and very politely and strenly asked them to have a talk with their kid#only to realize by the time i hung up that i was crying#welp#i dunno why i'm writing this here. probably because it's the only place i can vent about it without actually involving anyone#or maybe as a semi formal recognition that i'm not in fact okay- to remember nobody is completely unscathed#anyway rant over. over and out#shompsays

just going about my day idly contemplating how some of the ways hawke can interact with a romanced anders are not at all unlike how they interact with leandra (and a bit of carver too, especially with a purple hawke), and then thought about my hawke in the timeline where he romances anders and was hit straight in the face with 'was he ever actually in love, or was he just desperately trying to renegotiate with his mother's ghost in any way he could' and now i need to lie down. this is the power of dragon age 2

Simply not having a wonderful Christmas time. I was up all night last night because my dog got sick from a treat we gave her and was puking a bunch :(
#she seems to be doing fine today thank god. thought we were going to have to call the vet but she hasn't puked since 4:30am#and she's acting normal today & kept her food + water down. i 100% freak myself out & worry too much about everything#b/c i was like oh god what if she has a blockage i haven't seen her poop yet today even though my bf told me he saw her multiple times#so then i started googling about gi blockages in dogs & reading reddit posts of people whose dogs died or had surgery b/c of it#got myself WAY too worked up over it & was crying all night. then i went outside & watched her poop very normally at like 4am#so it's like ok clearly she's not blocked up & i'm just jumping to the worst case scenario like i tend to do about everything#DO NOT buy petsmart merry & bright treats. i'm so upset at myself for it. i was like oh haha treat shaped like a drumstick that's cute#but then reading reviews on their website so many of those treats have reviews from people saying they made their dogs sick#like oh cool i should have fucking read that before buying the treats i feel so stupid & bad like I KNOW BETTER wtf was i thinking#like i just would not be able to forgive myself if she had died from it or had to have a surgery to remove a blockage#but anyway thankfully she seems to be back to her normal self today although a little tired but not lethargic tired just regular tired#b/c we were up all night. she's back to herding the cats & barking at everything & all her usual goofy behaviors#actual thing i said last night: 'i lost my dad right before christmas i don't need to also lose my dog right before christmas'#p

i'm going to the dentist tomorrow and being really brave about it. extremely. because i need to get my wisdom teeth out very soon but i have to do a consultation first. i'm being brave. i promise. i'm brave...... :(
#wish me luck.....im actually going to cry#soooooo like i have a blood phobia which makes me really afraid to go to the doctor#also i didnt have insurance until i moved to japan LOL.#so there's a bunch of weird stuff and associations i have with going to get my Health Checked#we have mandatory yearly health checkups and in my town everyone signs up for a day/time and goes to a big gym#and you wait in line with all these doctors who test your hearing and pee and lungs etc#but also your blood#last year i had only lived in fukushima for two months or so#and i was really dreading the checkup but i was being brave because it's MANDATORY i have no choice#(also free yay)#but when they drew my blood i literally fainted in front of everyone#i didnt realize i was going to do that because i haven't in a really long time#even though i was crying while waiting my turn because i was so scared 😭😭😭😭#anyways it was actually so terrifying because people were saying things that i couldnt understand while i was basically on the ground#the doctor later told me my heart rate was so fast he thought i was going to have a heart attack and almost called an ambulance#but i was like no lol i just have a phobia. and he was like umm can you tell us next time?#my bad#anyways he told me to stay home for the rest of the day so i did#it also happened to be the day before the school festival#so when i came the next day everyone rushed up to me and was like ARE YOU OKAY#and i was confused like yeahhhh im fine i just got a little sick haha#but it turns out there was a rumor that i was carried away in an ambulance from fainting lmfao#like nah one of my coworkers just drove me back home lol#very long story just to say....#im going to faint again probably. even though it's just a consolation.#text

I have so many screenshots of Kalpas' face I could reconstruct his face at this point, and I'm afraid to say I'm not sure his face is scarred
#Biggest disappointment in a while#The marks on his face coincide exactly in shape and placement with the waves and twirls of his bangs#and they're the same colour used for the shading of his face#Which makes me think perhaps they're the shadow his hair forms on his face#I'm afraid of this realisation and hope it isn't the case but thankfully (?) I suppose we'll never know for sure#On the other hand his eyelashes have those reddish brownish parts that I thought were just the model breaking down#but they seem to belong to the actual design in some of the screenshots I've taken. That would be nice#I did want him scarred though. The marked dark eyebags are good nonetheless#And he has green eyes. A very realistic shade of green. I wasn't expecting him to have green eyes at all and I like it very much#I went to take screenshots hoping for noseless guy and I've ended up thinking he doesn't even have scars#I don't even know what to say haha#Kalpas#I talk too much#Traces#HI3#I am very much not normal about the fact he has green eyes. I don't know why I have loved it so intensely#nor why the realisation has surprised me so severely#But I do really enjoy the fact that he has green eyes#By the way‚ hilarious when Mei catches him talking with some other Flame Chaser and he talks normal. No threatening tone. No screaming#Even with Mobius. Yes he's angry yes he's sad yes the weight of the past is crumbling over him#but kind of like everyone else there. Mei gets in the middle of his conversations with Hua or Elysia or even Mobius and he is calm#and having a decent conversation. Then Mei arrives and he becomes that one Yu Gi Oh character#or Light in one of his bad days or over L's tomb#or something along those lines of exaggerated. It's so funny#Truly hilarious and so very silly. I would have died in two days there because I would not have been able to avoid making fun of him

I thought that was so interesting/cute that Sam was like "not really" when they asked in that podcast if he was ready for the show to go on netflix and reach a wider audience. It kind of makes me happy because it makes me feel like either way, we're good. If the show blows up or just gets a significantly bigger audience, then great for the show. If it doesn't, Sam will be happy just making the show in his little bubble lol. Though it's interesting because the show has already grown in popularity/attention this year, but I guess the idea is this could be a bigger jump? The show getting a huge boost from netflix would make me feel more secure about future seasons, though it seems like amc is really committed to the show and happy with it regardless. And I loved what he said about it feeling like amc gave them a lot of money to make a fairly niche show -- so I think/hope that will continue regardless of how popular the show gets, that AMC clearly trusts Rolin's vision and wants him to execute it.
/random netflix day thoughts
Yeah, it's interesting! I think Sam's response there is pretty classy, and goes to that idea that fame and celebrity is often a side-effect of acting, and for many (if not most) not the objective. A lot of actors just love it as an artform, so the perks of getting bigger projects is ultimately about the roles it might open up for you as opposed to how identifiable you are as a name and a face.
I'm very curious to see how the audience grows with the Netflix drop - like you said, it's definitely felt bigger already with s2. A part of me really wonders if a part of that is that peak TV is over, and it feels like a prestige show in an era where even arguably 'good' shows (The Bear, House of the Dragon, Severance) aren't actually that good. Like the TV landscape is currently pretty desolate, and it feels like IWTV and Shogun are probably the only TV shows of the last little while to feel truly exceptional. It's definitely a complex show though and one that rewards attention and re-watching, which is not necessarily something broad audiences want, so who knows how it'll go on a platform like Netflix.
But yeah! I'm feeling quietly confident for a few more seasons. AMC said themselves, they don't want to make something for everyone, but rather shows that are everything for someone, and I think IWTV really hits that sweet spot for them.
#sorry i do actually enjoy severance but i also think it's horribly paced#as opposed to the bear which i do think is bad haha and i thought it was bad even before this season apparently was! great acting though#okay wait i do actually think the severance season finale was very good#and i'm curious about s2 enough to be tuning in again#and i really do love the concept#(and dichen lachman who should have a better career)#but yeah i think there are a few shows out there at the moment that try to be prestige tv and maybe dress themselves up as them#but lack the nuance in storytelling and the talent behind the camera to deliver on their own promise#so when you do watch something that not just delivers but is constantly evolving it just really does feel like a breath of fresh air again#iwtv asks#welcome to my ama

my #analysis or whatever but its really interesting with how much they cut out of the Jon at the banquet 1x01 scene compared to (at least the leaked version online) the original pilot and book. like not to be like yeah grrm put this much detail in there for a reason but a lot of the detail that they removed really hurts jon as a character and its so jarring to see how much they cut to take the chapter down to about 3 minutes of the episode.
#twist rambles#thrones posting#im picking it apart bc im enjoying rewatching and knowing whats coming but it actually drives me insane bc imo jon gets fucked over SO bad#in the show w/o having his internal thoughts. like him and da/ny get fucked over the most w that to ME. and the cutting of the sa/nsa tower#scene in 1x10 also really was a big loss to MEEE personally. like when u have characters that are introspective and dont figure out any way#to incorporate all their thoughts- it hurts them a lot and kind of fucks over their characterization a lot#not saying got has sucked since 1x01 or anything but its been interesting to rewatch it and pour over the text as i do so because the small#changes do end up hurting it a bit the further u get in. like changing cer.sei to have birthed rob.erts child vs abortion i think definitel#does some damage to her character/that reveal. where like a lot of things that they added even in 1x01 are REALLY good changes. like the#addition that they did to the “the things i do for love” line were really good because it does kind of reassure the viewer haha he is askin#questions and let go of his shirt he SURELY wont and then he does. like that is a rly good change and again i think its kind of a mixed bag#w the additions and things they took away (namely i wish the amt of really over the top sex scenes were a bit closer to the book bc it kind#of takes away from a lot of it when its like SO much of an episode. its way more jarring how cruel th.eon is during sex when its very#different to what is surrounding it (which it is in the books) instead of like. it being INSTANTLY followed up w another similar scene they#added in. like i can definitely see the misogyny arguments esp when comparing book 2 show because the books are nowhere near as bad w that.#also forever mad that they didnt make da.ny bald at the start of s2. can we get silly NOW. anyways god. its been interesting to pick it#apart upon rewatch and more familiarity w the source material.
