Penelope!!!! (If she was in Hades 2)
Tumblr media
The location I would put her in doesn’t exist in the game yet, but I tried to do a bit of a background.
Tumblr media
Personally I would understand if Penelope doesn’t actually show up in Hades 2, there’s so much going on in the game already, buuuut if she was there….
I think there’s a lot of fun metaphor in unraveling the day’s weavings as a form of turning back the clock, hence “Witch of Unwinding”. Penelope isn’t referred to as a witch in any myths that I know of, but for various reasons I think it’s a fun change.

Interesting about the depiction of Athena in h2 in that she wears her helmet over her face and hides it and serves as a point of alienation. You cannot see her face you cannot make out her expressions, or see the humanity (heh) within. She feels cold, more distant (ironic then, that she seems more personable in tone than in h1, but that might be Athena's intent, given that she was always family oriented since h1).
The obvious answer that this is War and Athena is covering herself up as such in War. But more interestingly, it's the context of why she's hidden as such from a meta perspective. There's a convo where Hecate hightlights to Mel that Athena is surveilling her, that she better watch out. Athena seems to admit to such in certain instances, while also not exactly trusting what she sees with Mel. So this design choice, sort of reflects that dynamic. Combined with the profile where it's clear that Athena is looming over Mel her posture is bent over in the camera. Despite Mel's trust in her she is not someone Mel should be so blind to.
It's an interesting dynamic and I'm curious with the whole Arachne debacle and the nagging question of "what does Mel want to do with her life post war?" that we see how this relationship unfolds.

Solangelo fic idea because I love them,
Soulmate au wherein once you're claimed the mark of your soulmate appears as a tattoo on your body, it might be the same place as your soulmate, it might be different. If your soulmate is a mortal then only a letter 'M' appears.
Everyone is so worked up because Will never showed his mark, some of them speculated his soulmate is a mortal, some of them argued that it could be unrequited love like his soulmate might be Annabeth but she found her soulmate so he's destined to be alone. No one knows for sure, except for his sister Kayla.
The helm of darkness? Geez who could it be? The only child of Hades out there is Nico di Angelo. Will is 100% sure that the boy despise his guts, also he heard from Kayla that the boy already has a crush, and he's not sure if the concept applies on roman demigods, but didn't Hazel have a soulmate already?
Will never shows his mark, he felt devastated especially that the son of Hades is quite distanced.
Nico tries to operate between his pitiful crush on Percy, Jason who's urging him to let go and find himself another person, and his own mark.
The little sun tattooed on the side of his torso.
Funny thing, everyone thinks his soulmate is a mortal.

No, Merlin, don't drink the wine in hades afterlife place! (I FORGOT WHAT IS WAS CALLED)

Merlin: (≖ᴗ≖✿) No mortal (undead?) food can stop me! That would require me to actually imbibe it.
Hades: . . . . . *kicking Merlin out of the Underworld already*
Hades' realm is called... Hades. Yes, it's one of those things where the realm and the ruler share the same name. The "Underworld" for the more generic description.

I'd point out that Narcissus is a narcsissist, not aroace, but, upon reflection, (WAHA!) I don't see why both can't be true.
OK SO
I'm not going to go on my whole big thing about this but basically it boils down to two things
Depending on the version of the myth the "falling in love with your reflection" thing is basically a punishment for not being interested in anyone romantically. Like the way I heard the myth growing up was like "oh he's such a big meanie for rejecting Echo how DARE he not be interested in her" and even sometimes "he HAS to be selfish because he is not attracted to anyone." The lack of romantic attraction is kind of key to the whole story, not being interested in people is the thing he does to deserve the punishment (in the versions when it is a punishment and not just. like. he found his reflection lol). I'm not gonna say "oh the original myth he's aroace" because that's not true but it's certainly a story that opens itself up to aroace interpretations?
IF WE CAN REIMAGINE EVERY OTHER FUCKING ACTUAL MURDERER AND FLESH EATING MONSTER IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY AS A POOR TRAGIC FIGURE WE CAN HAVE THE GUY WHO'S CRIME WAS BEING KIND OF A DICK TO OTHERS GET THE QUEER REIMAGINING
So yeah that's my whole thing about it, and obvs you're right he can be both a narcissist and aroace (though like. There are articles that will argue he's not a narcissist either and sigmund freud can go fuck himself but that's a whole other thing).
Also there's a whole thing about the demonization of npd that I'm just not qualified to really talk about but I think fits into this conversation somewhere

Hi! So I am very new to Hadestown and I am watching the bootleg. I really love the dynamic between Hades and Persephone, but there is one thing that kind of rub me in not so good way, is Hey Little Song Bird implied that Hades and Eurydice slept together? I am seeing a lot of interpretation and it genuinely confused the hell out of me asdfghk
Hi! Well, tbf it's a tricky question, but the short answer is that Hadestown suggests that something might have happened behind closed doors. The rest is up to audience and actor's interpretation.
For example, Anaïs Mitchell often mentions in Working On a Song that in early workshops she often went with the idea that Hades cheats and pretty regularly even though these affairs mean nothing to him since the only person he loves is Persephone. It even had a cut song:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In her early drafts/productions of Hadestown you can often get the vibe that from her point of view it doesn't matter as much because they are eternal beings and love each other since the world began so does it even matter for them?
However, by NYTW this story line was cut apart from Persephone's line in How Long:
"I don't mind if you look at other girls, now and then"
"The girl means nothing to me"
"I know"
Plus the staging in NYTW Papers and Hades' protective peacock behavior with Eurydice around Orpheus in the scene also gives you a thought that they might have had an affair? Plus some bits like the fact that she has a line in Why We Build a Wall and her words "But don't you see? That's different with me!" - "Different than who? They thought they were different too!" Could also be interpreted as Hades suggesting some special conditions by granting her a role of a romantic interest. Whether the interest is real or not and did he use it or not is again up to your interpretation of NYTW Hades. He is more of a morally dubious guy (as all ht Hades are) so it's more up to you to either believe he would have cheated to put Persephone in her place or would just use showing off Eurydice as a brutal way to get Persephone's interest.
As for Broadway, I think it's still suggested and you can find profs in the lyrics but I think that they are what they are - suggestive and leave you to interprete it whichever way you feel comfortable. I think the biggest suggestion remains in Flowers with the line:
'I trembled when he laid me out
"You won’t feel a thing," he said, "when you go down"'
Which kinda can have a death meaning and sex meaning, tbf someone could have written a good article on how those topics are connected in Hadestown. So here, again chose one of the two or both.
But again, Broadway also changed the lyrics in How Long and the whole staging in Papers so it's less suggestive.
My personal opinion based on Broadway production is that it all depends on how the actor plays it and whether you believe this particular Hades is the type to sleep with Eurydice to get Persephone's attention and prove he is still attractive or he is more of a person who doesn't care about having the affair and his only goal is to get Persephone to react somehow by composing such a messed up hurtful plan. Personally, I prefer the second option maybe because I'm a pussy or maybe because I see Hades (whom I mostly base on Patrick Page ht Broadway previews) like a person who is desperate to get Persephone's attention in such a radical way like a cat pushing objects from your table to see your reaction. He wants to be stopped, he wants any reaction from Persephone. He even touches her by the shoulder before going into the office like "Look!! Look! I'm absolutely totally leaving! To cheat! See! Hey come on! I'll even take off my tie to show that I'm serious! Don't you wanna stop me???". Seems kinda way too extra to me. Like he could have just gotten to the office after parading a pretty girl in front of her and it would be understood that it's for an affair. But he takes so much time to make sure she understands that he can find himself someone when all he wants is for her to come back to him with open arms. I'm not sure he has the guts to actually damage his relationship to an irreversible degree (considering Broadway Hades is never stated as a cheater before the Eurydice sub-plot). Like it's one thing to take a mortal before her time and parade her in front of your wife (because what is a mortal life after all?) as a "replacement" and it's the other way to actually cheat on her and deal with the fact that she might never forgive him again if it is a deal-breaker for her considering they seem to be true to each other for all these years.
One interesting thing to note here as well is how Hades actors play the reaction to Persephone's line in How Long:
"He has the kind if love that you and I once had"
Because his instant reaction is "OH SHIT once had?? Does she think I don't love her still?? OH SHIT I BROUGHT THE GIRL THIS IS WHY SHE MIGHT THINK THAT", so he answers to that:
"The girl means nothing to me!"
Depending on the actor and she show the line sounds either scared, confused, angry, undignified etc. So it's once again up to you to interprete why he reacts this way: is he angry because she suggested he would actually cheated on her? Is he angry because she called him out on that affair? Is he confused and scared because she thinks he doesn't love her anymore because of his foolish decision to tease her in such a cruel way?
That's up to you.
P.S. I think one of the most interesting studies of the subject and Hades' character that I've read in a fic for that matter was the Songbird chapter of Winters Nigh and Summers O're. You can check it out, but I will warn you that it's probably one of the heaviest chapters of that fic in the emotional sense and it has explicit parts (don't worry, nothing bad happens to Eurydice. Well...apart from dying, I guess), so check out the warnings if you decide to read it.

Hades 2 looks really damn good so far but i think so far it lacks Hades OG’s unique swagger that I feel really drew people to it. I think as it develops further and it receives more input it’ll resolve most of my gripes, but there are some just fundamental vibe differences that are always going to keep it lower than Hades in my personal book

Haii!! :3
I was thinking about your Deathboots Hades & Persephone art and wondered if you had any sort of headcanons or any other content for it? :3
Hello!
Well, I was thinking about it ajdj
Puss is just a hero of a small Greek village, but he's the bravest and most fearless and charming and all that, and the gods liked him enough to talk about making him a minor god. But then Thanatos (Death) god of death (????) got angry because (as in the original film) he thought Puss was a disrespectful little thing, with no respect for his own life and constantly mocking in Lobo's face. So, sick of that and that the gods want to turn him into a god, Death decides to intervene by hunting him himself to end it all. So, they face each other, they fight, but Puss doesn't manage to escape in time and is kidnapped by Death. Once in the underworld and behind the backs of the other deities, Death keeps Puss captive but they begin to live together and get to know each other. Puss learns his lesson and they ask for each other's forgiveness. But they fall in love, the gods don't like that, which Death thinks is unfair because almost all the gods have had involved with mortals.
So the gods end up separating them. But without anyone knowing, Death, with the help of some of King Hades' children, manages to obtain a pomegranate from Queen Persephone's garden and gives it to Puss. According to the rules of the underworld, (And if I remember correctly) if someone consumes the food of the underworld they are obliged to return or remain there. So the gods have no choice but to allow the union but with one condition, Puss will no longer be a minor god (and will remain mortal) and will have to spend a certain amount of time in the mortal realm before returning again with Death to his realm.
I really like the idea ahdajdh

hello hello!! idk if you alr wrote for this or not, but do you have any headcanons for (either general fics, or wmftd) hades 2 hypnos?
like, do they watch hypnos occasionally in the crossroads with a severe sense of longing; or do they tell baby mel stories of him during hades 1, like how they met or funny interactions; or do they avoid the crossroads completely and instead fight in the olympian/chronos war constantly, to avoid the heartache of seeing him in such an unresponsive state??
oooh the angst (angst my beloved)
I also wonder how they'd react to him waking up, too. and to melinoe finding a way to enter hypnos' first layer of his mindscape/dreamscape
do you think hypnos dreams of them? or can at least feel their intentions on a subconscious or even unconscious level? do they have telepathic hallucinations? meet in a dream world occasionally?
sorry for my yap session!! no need to answer all of them, they're mostly my aimless hypnos thoughts
I hope you're doing well! ^^
Hypnos thoughts are always welcomed! Lol
Putting my reply under here. going to do general fic as to avoid spoilers for Wmftd Hades 2 fic.
Beware of Hades 2 spoilers.
In general when he woken, I think Hypnos will overall still have fairly cheerful behavior and occasional sass.
However I can see him having a shorter fuse and more likely be snappishness due to the stress of what happening with his siblings and his mom
Hypnos is a Mama's boy and wouldn't like someone messing with his mom.
I can see him slowly befriending Dora. Although they might dislike each other at first.
Anytime they interact would be like live inprov comedy, funny for some and annoying for everyone else, lol.
I think Hypnos would actually feel more alone. He doesn't know Mel that well, his twin and Zagreus are both gone. Nor does he have any close ties to anyone in the cross roads
I would like for Hades 2 to explore more of the Nyx's children's relationships with each other.
I do think he and Moros might get along. Moros seem like a very patient soul and I think he would enjoy someone is always cheerful.
If he had a partner in the general fics, I do think they would constantly be at his side, making no secret how much they miss him.
And funny that you mentioned the fighting part. But I won't go into that right now
I do think whoever Hypnos' partner is would always have stories to share while the defend him from hurtful comments even if he can't hear them.
For now, it seems that Hypnos' coma is caused by outside interference, therefore any communication is totally and completely cut off.
I do think their partner would be thrilled at first but dismayed at the news that in even in the world that Hypnos is asleep.
When Mel tells them of the cutout Hypnos has of them in the dreamworld, all they could was laugh. Otherwise they might cry.
When Hypnos is awaken once more, I think they will both be super happy and maybe it is a little awkward as they get used to each other again, it will be like they were never apart.
