1. What was your first fic and could you stand to reread it today?

It was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fic, and no, I could not stand to read it today, and nor should you. There’s a reason why none of my Buffy fic is up on the AO3, and that any emails from ff.net go to an email address I no longer have the password for.

Um, This is What You Will Wear to the End of the World; alternatively titled: everything wrong with Merlin, a show I somehow watched five seasons of despite it frequently offending both my sensibilities and my intelligence.

I am about one HUNDRED thousand years late to this party and all that’s left at the bottom of the potato chips bowl is stale Janeway/Chakotay (could the showrunners just not decide whether they want to Go There with Hippy Space Dad and Scary Science Mom??? never have I seen a good pairing with such uneven chemistry) and a Tom/B’Elanna tag that I don’t want to go into but now that I’ve typed those words I am absolutely going to do that thing

A subtle and beautifully bittersweet fic of two complex women letting themselves appreciate something fleeting.

False Steps - too-many​-seeds Fairbanks/Female Trevelyan (T, 4800 words)

It’s got clever politics, miscommunications, and trust broken and mended again. A very fun and satisfying story.

there’s no place like home - CoaxionUnlimited Female Aeducan/Female Brosca (T, 6000 words)

A worldstate where neither dwarf becomes the Warden, but they still meet up. A really well-paced and exciting fic with a great story and great character dynamics.

The Chemistry Between Us - cullenlovesmen Isabela/Bethany (M, 1800 words)

There’s something so sweet about Warden Bethany meeting Isabela again after years spent apart, where they find themselves equals (with a surprising amount in common!) 

Before the Forge Goes Cold - @jarakrisafis Branka/Hespith (G, 400 words)

Somehow this ship never occurred to me before, but this short fic really got the wheels in my brain spinning. (Pairs well with this lovely Branka/Hespith art - An Afternoon of Quiet Research.)

A Worthy Ally - Sheeana Anders/Male Hawke/Justice (T, 1700 words)

I like reading polyamory negotiations and anything with Justice is bound to be an unusual riff on that theme. Really enjoyed the character voice of the Purple Hawke at the center of this one.

A Crown of Gold - Toshi_Nama Ser Cauthrien/Anora Mac Tir (T, 1000 words)

I am gay and I love a lady knight pining after a queen-to-be. I do not need any further justification for how much I enjoyed this.

Hero - @kauriart Male Cousland/Loghain Mac Tir (E, 4600 words)

I’m kind of losing my mind over what an excellent fic this is. Showing my ass a bit with this rec, but we simply love a thoughtful tragedy-with-a-glimmer-of-hope character study, plus angsty sex. Mind the tags.

Hey there! When I created this blog I wanted it to be a handy collection of Vivienne references for myself, because my need for Viv facts is great. (So is my need for staring at her face and swooning.) I've tried to make this easier by going through the archive and tagging things appropriately. There's now a list in the sidebar with some useful tags. I don't always agree with everything in the text post/meta category, but it's all things I've found interesting to read. Different ideas and opinions is what makes this fun! Since this is a sideblog I can't follow anyone on it, but if any of you know of interesting/pretty/useful things I should be reblogging, I've opened up both the ask and the submit function. I also put a bunch of oldie stuff in the queue, so apologies if it's all things you've seen. For the fic meme, if I'm allowed to be greedy: 1, 3, 6, 19!

1) Tell us about your current project(s) – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

never gonna say I’m sorry - This is Amara/Tyreen Borderlands nonsense, and the goal is to be as ridiculous and melodramatic as the canon itself! I love ridiculous set-ups where the villain ends up palling around with the heroes, so add some smooching and enemies to lovers and I’m all over that like catnip. I just have to write it. :’)

lost - Weird and emotional Asterius/Theseus fic for Hades! It’s pre-canon, and I was thinking about what if Theseus’ over the top pomposity is just a mask for his own deep insecurities and the realization that the legend that made him wouldn’t exist without the Minotaur? So it’s mildly angsty with Theseus coming to the realization that whether hero or monster, they’re both god-touched, and they’ve both escaped (or been trapped) in their own ways. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and finally wrote an entire messy first draft in one sitting today!

3) What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)

LOOK I’m sure that I’ve ranted about this before on this blog, but it’s the ridiculous and silly ‘Piper gets lovingly gangbanged by all my favorite companions��� fic that’s hanging out in my outlines!

The set-up: Piper’s been writing lurid friendfic of everyone under a pseudonym, greatly embarrassing them! Everyone’s trying to find out the identity of this mystery writer, and Piper’s evading capture (and raking in the caps)! And because it’s silly and porny, once everyone finds out, it just becomes: “Well, Piper! Why didn’t you just tell us that you felt this way!” and she orgasms herself silly. :’)

6) What character do you have the most fun writing?

I’ve come to realize that the characters I love the most are the ones who let me have absolutely indulgent descriptions, with deeply felt emotions that they want to espouse in the purplest of prose! Or at least ones who are smart-asses and willing to slam their hand on the self-destruct button in interesting ways.

I’ve been enough of a multifandom mess that I might not consistently write a given ship or character, but in general? I like writing Isabela and Merrill, and am coming to realize how much I enjoy writing villainous POV for Tyreen.

19) Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)

I keep returning to imagery involving food, or pain and the body. I find them visceral and emotionally resonant, so I will often try to include specifics of what kind of tea the characters are drinking, or processing emotions as a punch in the gut or a fist around their throat.

I actually really like the Janeway/Chakotay thing because he's totally in love with her, but she is like "we cannot pursue this it is inappropriate as long as we are captain & second" and he is like "I understand and accept this and will not let it affect our working relationship" but also "I'm going to continue to be quietly and unobtrusively in love with you" and then you get to see his little hopes get up from time to time and then be cruelly squashed ��

This is the stage I’ve reached... my gay heart broke at the pocket watch from S4!Year of Hell. I will accept these miserable scraps! We are far from the ship teasing of our ancestors.

Not really a fan of 2nd person POV but will vote for whichever you feel will suit the story best? The Pronoun Problem can be a fun challenge!

See, I really love second person when it's done right, but I've basically written an entire prequel in third, so, I think I will take on the pronoun challenge. I'll admit, sometimes I get lazy and just go "stuff it, I trust the reader to figure this out."

Caaaaaara, light of my life.

What sucks is thegirl20 already did Cara way better than I ever will, but here goes.

How I FEEEEEL about this character: Like I said when discussing Kahlan, Cara is completely up my alley. When my friend decided to try to get me into Seeker, she pointed at Cara a bunch and essentially said “LEATHER WITH FEELINGS” over and over until I caved.

But what’s cool is Cara is actually more than just leather with feelings! (I mean, she’s that too.) She’s the reason I watched all of Seeker season 2 in one already hectic work week, and she’s the reason I wanted to write it. 

It’s really hard for me to put my feelings for Cara into words because the way that I empathize with and understand her is so immediate and instinctive, it’s difficult to articulate. Like if someone were to ask me what’s awesome about Cara Mason, I’d be stuck waving my hands in her general direction, shouting, “JUST LOOK.”

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Ship romantically? Kahlan. Just Kahlan. 

She can have sex with lots of attractive people, though. (And actually, writing the HP Seeker series has given me all kinds of weird and complicated feelings about her early relationship with Dahlia that I never would have anticipated.)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: While I actually dig her every interaction with Zedd, she and Richard are bros in absolutely the best way.

I don’t know, I feel like every answer for Cara is super obvious and I feel lame for not making something up that’s more original, but no really. :\ She and Richard should have their own buddy comedy where they drive cross country trying to help each other pick up chicks.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I’m going to cheat and say essentially the same thing I said for Kahlan: that she’s a Hufflepuff. Before ambition, before pride, Cara prioritizes loyalty. It’s loyalty to her mord’sith sisters that first has her taking command in 2x01, and it’s loyalty to Richard’s merry band of idiots that has her repeatedly risking her life for (stupid) peasants when she’d rather roll her eyes. Cara Mason is a loyal marshmallow and a fluffy cuddly badger. Cute but probably capable of clawing your eyes out, no problem.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. Okay, I am certain that this one really is going to be the same answer for everyone: that Cara wasn’t given a chance to fix herself instead of a shitty spell. I kind of assume that this was a result of the show’s cancellation and a need to compress this arc into so few episodes — because really, it is so sloppy and poorly done — but knowing that doesn’t make it any less disappointing.
