Summary:

When Harry’s in need of a divorce lawyer, he has no choice but to turn to the best in the trade. Draco Malfoy’s reputation for discretion is flawless, and his track record for winning cases is close to perfect. But he’s also ruthless, passionate, and as infuriating as ever, and the brief relationship he and Harry had in Eighth Year still feels painfully fresh despite two decades spent apart.

What Harry and Draco used to be is all in the past. And surely they can work together in these new, emotionally charged circumstances without falling in love all over again… can’t they?

Excerpt:

“I have no idea what I’m doing,” Potter admitted, gaze falling to Draco’s lips.

“Just keep looking at me like that,” Draco whispered, and leaned down to kiss him.

It was a question, first, a gentle brush of lips, the warmth of Potter’s breath feathering against Draco’s skin. Draco pulled back a fraction. He held Potter’s face, thumbs on his cheekbones. Potter looked at him as Draco had asked. He looked at Draco like he would never look away. The intimacy of it was almost unbearable. 

“I’ve no idea what I’m doing either,” Draco confessed. 

“It’s all right.” Potter nudged Draco’s nose with his. “You’re doing all right.”

Heat surged between them, and they kissed again. It was impossible to tell who had made the move this time. Both. Neither. Potter held him close, opened his mouth for Draco, and Draco sank into the kiss. He threaded his fingers through Potter’s thick hair, marvelling that he was allowed to touch him like this. He pulled, tilted Potter’s head to deepen the kiss, and Potter moaned into his mouth. Draco was hard in seconds, and he handled Potter back against a locker. Potter’s back hit the metal door with a dull, hollow sound, and they both arched into each other, hard and panting, hands entwined. It was different this time. Draco’d been right. The kiss changed everything. Standing here in the middle of the locker rooms, Potter’s hands on his face, Potter’s mouth on his, the soft, wet, electric feel of his tongue stroking Draco’s. He’d been angry when Potter had shoved him into that alcove a few days ago. Potter’s hand on his cock had felt like revenge. But this felt nothing like their mindless rutting. This felt like—like holding Potter like a lover. Like letting him lay Draco open, letting him peruse the contents of his heart. This was hope, fear, confusion, lust, tenderness all wrapped up in one big sweeping tide.

And Draco didn’t think he would recover from it.

They drew apart eventually, breathing hard, forehead against forehead. Potter’s green eyes were fixed on Draco’s. Draco had asked him to look, and Potter had listened. Draco hadn’t expected such obedience from the stubborn git. The intensity of Potter’s stare was hard to hold, but Draco stared back bravely.

He lifted an eyebrow that he hoped looked sardonic. 

“Romance, Potter?”

Potter shrugged, a small smile on his kiss-swollen lips. “Do you have anything better to do?”

Renegade Binderary 2 of 3: Kept in Cages by @sweet-s0rr0w and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm

Deep in the heart of the Ministry lies the Beast Division: a hidden room where ancient beasts roam, and winged creatures soar, and grumpy giant ferrets eat all your biscuits unless you keep them well hidden. Draco Malfoy would know – he’s been working there for five years now, after all.

Meanwhile, on Level One, ex-Golden Boy Harry Potter is stuck in another interminable policy meeting, completely unaware of the mysterious comings and goings just three floors below. But when a giant snake emergency requires the assistance of a Parselmouth, Harry finds himself thrust, unprepared, into Draco’s weird and wonderful world – and naturally, he can’t keep away��

In this fic, Sweet and Joy wove an incredibly hopeful and gracious journey of healing for both Harry and Draco against a lush backdrop of magical creatures & friends. I am so happy to have bound this fic for Sweet and me. I bound this as a part of Renegade’s Binderary 2023 (where we challenge ourselves to make as many books as we can). I specifically focused on some of my favorite fics published in 2022 that I hadn’t already bound :)

I was quite burnt out of writing & reading fic at the end of H/D Wireless 2022 and so I slept on this fic for months and SHAME ON ME! It took me until December to read it and I was just blown away by the world that Joy and Sweet built together. I had this two-toned blue/green bookcloth, knew I wanted to have a cut-out, found this gorgeous William Morris tapestry, and boom, the design was born. I also want to say that Joy’s gorgeous illustrations & Sweet’s beautiful words were so evocative that designing & typesetting this was a breeze; if you have any doubt, see how @a-gay-old-time (who did such an amazing bind of this here) and I came to very similar design choices independently :)

I also used text from @sitp-recs' rec here and @getawayfox's rec here at the front of the book, which I would love to start doing for all of my binds.

I learned a ton of stuff that is totally boring to a non-fanbinder, but was huge for me: footnotes, full page illustrations, double French-core endbands (still need some refinement, but I am so happy to be able to use more than two colors!), cut-outs!! Some technical challenges of this bind: getting the cut-out exactly in the right spot, using a guillotine for the first time & having some pretty tight margins as a result, painting on Duo bookcloth (the texture makes it really tough!), but I'm still so happy with this bind. I also have to acknowledge @pleasantboatpress who inspired both the headbands and the cut-out with their absolutely gorgeous binds.

Hello there!

I've always wanted to start sharing fics that I like, but creating a whole list feels like such a mountain to climb over. So, I've decided to go through my June bookmarks and recommend the fics that really stood out to me. I do not have a talent for describing how fics make me feel (evidenced by the amount of people who've seen me growling in their bookmarks), but I hope I'm able to tell you just how much I liked these fics this month.

How I Met Your Father M, 95k by @dracogotgame for H/D Smoochfest

As an obsessive rewatcher of How I Met Your Mother, this fic gave me literally everything I needed and more. The characters matched their show counterparts so so so well, while still feeling like the classic HP characters we know and love (from fanon, of course.) Draco's journey in this fic was charming, and watching Harry grow and find himself was such a joy to experience. If you like How I Met Your Mother, then this fic will make you squeal. When worlds collide etc.

An Emerald In The Sky M, 6.6k by @corvuscrowned for @hd-wireless 2022

I read this in its entirety while waiting in line for a corn dog at a theme park, then proceeded to order my corn dog through tears. I don't usually cry when I read fics, but this one broke me and put me back together in the span of about fifteen minutes. I loved watching these two continually find their way back to each other, and Draco's voice in this made me absolutely fall in love with him. I'm also a sucker for time travel fics, so this was a treat.

The Dying of the Light E, 20k by @chamomileteafuel for @lcdrarry 2023

I love Harry in this fic. Watching him grow to accept his situation, along with the people around him, was a great experience. I'm a big fan of right person, wrong time fics and this gave me exactly what I needed. Even if that second chance came in the (kinda)afterlife.

That Old Black Magic E, 77k by @carpemermaid for @hdtropes 2019

This fic was heart-wrenching. When I think of fuck-or-die, this is what I will think of from now on. The stakes were high as all hell, and they remained high throughout the entire story. The shaky requirements of their situation gave this a tension that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The epilogue was hilarious and satisfying, and I wish for the life of me that I could read this for the first time again.

When Times are Dire E, 130k by @aibidil

I don't know why I put off reading this fic for so long. Maybe because every single fic I've read by aibidil has been an absolute treasure, and I like to lengthen the amount of time between readings, really savor these works. But, GOD, reading this was such a wonderful time for me. Once upon a time, I was a political science major, and this scratched a very specific itch I have for Wizarding politics and politics in general. The kids' personalities were all so charming, and I loved the family dynamics present here. Aibidil really put these two grandpas in a situation, and it was so satisfying to watch them work through it, along with their long-standing inner struggles.

Magnificent Maddy, beautiful @thebooktopus, sweet special someone...here's to you!

Maddy started this excellent month last year, so it seems only right I start with her this year! All the effort and LOVE Maddy put into her posts last year? Incredible. I checked every day, so excited to see who she would talk about. I ended up following several new people last year thanks to her, and checking out many new stories (even for ships and tropes I don't normally read!) And I walked away with many new friends!

Following March last year, I was deep in Snarry-a-Thon hell, having actual meltdowns trying to write Contempt. Listen, I'm a mess on a good day, especially when writing, but never more so than writing Contempt! And when I was sobbing and second-guessing myself, Maddy was one of the lovely humans who offered to look at my draft for me and who encouraged me to keep going. Truly, I have no idea what I would have done without her and others' help! My poor precious fic would have ended up in the trash, if not my whole laptop on fire! Her time and care meant so much to me then and is still so special to me now, knowing how important her help was in finishing a work I love so much.

There is such goodness in Maddy's heart, and her generosity and kindness are so inspiring and incredible. She has been an absolute sweetheart! Of course, Maddy is more than just the love she gives. She is a creator in her own right! So many goodies she's made, a variety of ships and stories! I've specially selected FIVE to recommend to you! And if you can, please be sure to leave Maddy some love!

Signal Boost & HP Fest Schedule: June 24 - July 17

A signal boost for two HP communities.

WeasleyJumpers is a Weasley-centric community for the core Weasley family, anyone related to them by blood, and next gen kids. The comm is also on Dreamwidth and Livejournal. They run a different fest every year: a comment fest in 2020, a prompt-and-claim fest in 2022, etc.

They are currently asking for people's ideas on what to do for this year's fest. You can find more information on Tumblr and DW.

Harry Potter Fanwork Recs is a new HP rec community that started up on Dreamwidth. While you'd need to become a member of the comm (along with having a DW account) to make a post, you don't need a DW account to reply to posts. They already have some fantastic recs posted to the comm.

Wireless 2022 Recs

Another year, anther fantastic H/D Wireless collection with so many treats! We got spoiled with 58 gorgeous art and fic works across all kinds of tropes and lengths. I wanna give a special shout-out to the sexy shorts celebrating friends with benefits and fuck buddies - two of my favourites tropes! - and the gorgeous long fics full of aching and healing for our Chosen One. It was impossible to pick only a few works among so many beautiful, evocative creations, so here are my 17 favourites including art! Keep in mind that my picks are 100% based on my personal tastes and the intention is to celebrate this Fest and to spread some love before the reveals. Bright Side by @floydig (T, 2k) ☄️ - brilliant short, sharp and atmospheric, with a gripping sense of space and an impressive amount of story and character packed within. Harry is Draco’s parole officer and they’re both a bit sad and broken but bonding over heat and music and shared trauma, they might find a bit of hope together.

It’s been one year since the war, and Draco is on probation. He lives in a shitty muggle flat in the middle of nowhere in California and delivers pizza. Harry is Draco’s probation officer who visits far too often. Read my rec here.

Mens Rea by @lqtraintracks (E, 3k) 🦊 - BAMF Draco being brilliant and bossy while topping from the bottom, yes please 👏🏻 Harry and I have no choice but to enjoy the ride. Thrilling plot, A+ dialogue and excellent characterization, charming & hot!

Mens Rea: the mental element of a person's intention to commit a crime; or knowledge that one's action or lack of action would cause a crime to be committed.

Nothing Compares by @maesterchill (T, 3k) 🚲- be still my heart, this combines perfect Amsterdam aesthetics and casual-not-so-casual melancholy pining that will leave you soft with aching. A gorgeous take on Auror partners with all the feels packed within 3k.

Working in the International Auror division doesn't exactly lend itself to Harry finding love or having any sort of relationship, what with all the unsociable hours and catching bad guys and never being in one location for more than a few days. Not to mention the permanent fixture of his partner, Malfoy. So, how does a song about lost love end up being the thing that helps Harry find love, in the location he least expected it? like freedom by @softlystarstruck and @babooshkart (M, 4k) 🏜 - sweet road trip romance with photographer Harry and a gorgeous and soothing desert scenery. Quiet, intimate and contemplative, this is a perfect comfort read with sublime art pieces that will take your breath away.

Harry doesn’t know the exact moment his life changed. Maybe it was the day Draco Malfoy unwillingly turned up at his front door, or the moment the plane’s landing gear went up and London-Heathrow fell away below them. Maybe it was in the dusty swirl of red rocks and motel rooms somewhere between Tennessee and California. Maybe it wasn't a single moment at all, but a whole series of them, captured with Harry's camera. Read my rec here.

Rated: E Word Count: 118K Summary: Forced to return to Malfoy Manor, Draco finds himself surrounded by an unfamiliar ancestral home, strange occurrences that spook his beloved horse, and one weirdly dressed Head Auror, who won't leave until Draco no longer wants him to leave. Well, it's reveals day, and that means it's time for me to claim my monster fic. What a rollercoaster ride it was. First, signing up, then actually putting the plot bunnies in my head onto virtual paper (all while trying very hard not to freak out as the word count continued to climb and climb...I swear it wasn't me, it was the gremlins in my head), and finally to keep quiet about it while posting commenced.

First of all, I'd like to thank the H/D Wireless 2022 Mods, who were absolutely wonderful about so many things...helping me find an alpha reader/beta, then accommodating my AO3 name change to help with my level of comfort, and finally granting me not one but two extensions. I was tagged by the lovely @the-starryknight (read their self-rec sunday here!). I actually have exactly one fic published, so this is a lil different format than everyone else's that have been floating around!

My most popular, and only, fic: A Case of You for H/D Wireless 2022

I have been so blown away by the response to this—that so many people were willing to read a 97k fic from someone who had never published anything else. I learned so much writing this fic, especially that writing a mystery and compelling OCs is HARD. I also tried to toe the line between a Draco who is still learning & changing after the war, who still has his pride and has gained new insecurities, and who isn't 'redeemed' yet by any metric (but is trying really damn hard). A different snippet than my claim, because I love Pansy & Draco together:

Draco would have maybe resented this secret thing he and Potter engaged in more if he thought Potter was playing the town. It became quickly clear, however, that Potter was profoundly lonely. In the rare instances they spoke about anything beyond “yes, right there”, “this alright?”, or “fuck, so good”, Potter only mentioned Granger or Weasley, not anybody else in the regular gaggle of Gryffindors. That, combined with his obvious misery and exhaustion made Draco realize Potter was carrying some tremendous burden, the self-sacrificing sod. It made Draco want to do senseless things like tuck Potter into bed, feed him, carry something, anything, for him. In the end, though, all Draco was good for was a quick fuck.

Sex with Potter was great—no, more than great. Perfect, really. It was all the in-between bits that were causing problems. Potter would go through cycles of excitement and depression; the bags under his eyes would wax and wane. He steadily put on weight though, his ribs slowly hiding under a layer of muscle and fat. Draco made sure to nod at Kreacher when he saw him in the house, but to never acknowledge him more than that.

Potter never, ever told Draco whatever secret he was hiding.

In fact, Draco sometimes felt that Potter were using him for sex, which would have been insulting if it weren’t so flattering. Draco tried not to let it rankle; he knew he should feel lucky to get to have some part of Potter, at all.

“Maybe it’s my penance,” Draco said, apropro of nothing, as Pansy laid her head on his lap, “for me to never shag anyone who actually likes me.”

“Mmm,” Pansy replied sleepily. The fire was crackling and blazing in the hearth, as the days were starting to get cold and long. “I don’t think any of us will ever shag someone who actually likes us, unless you want to start getting a little incestuous in our friend group. Miles is looking quite fit, recently, don’t you think?”

Miles had started a Slytherin Quidditch meet-up and was beginning to build back his Beater muscles from Hogwarts. Pansy had been ogling him in his Quidditch leathers not earlier that day. Draco tried not to think of Potter in his Quidditch leathers.

Draco smoothed Pansy’s bangs back from her eyes. “He is, Pans. You could go for it.”

She shrugged. “I just might. I suppose the other option would be to move to France.”

“Paris is lovely in the spring,” Draco murmured.

It's also the fic first I ever bound :) I wanted something to celebrate finishing it & also so my partner could read it in a physical form. Some pics:

My current WIP: 'Tis the Damn Season (working title)

One and a half years after the war, Draco Malfoy shows up to the Burrow for Christmas.

I'm ~20k into writing this, but the end isn't really anywhere in sight, so I'm in writing purgatory. Things I'm loving about this fic: writing Harry's POV, Harry Potter & Ginny Weasley's bromance, enemies-to-lovers-to-friends-to-lovers, Arthur Weasley as a trekkie, early '00s raves, the existential angst of not being content with your life despite saving the world, but also make it light-hearted. Snippet is completely unedited:

Harry was banging on Malfoy’s door before he could think better of it.

Malfoy opened the door and looked temporarily taken aback before his features settled into annoyance. He made to shut the door, saying, “Oh, for God’s sake—“

Harry stopped him from closing it with a palm. He distantly knew he must look crazy, sopping wet, raindrops dripping down the bridge of his nose and falling from his eyelashes. His shirt was plastered to his chest and he was panting.

“What, Potter?” Malfoy snapped. “Have you come to profess your love to me in the pouring rain like we’re in some sodding romance novel?”

That snapped Harry out of it. “No, you arsehole,” he growled.

“Oh, so you’ve come to my door just to insult me.” Malfoy rolled his eyes and pushed on the door against Harry’s hand.

“No!” Harry protested. Actually he wasn’t completely sure why he had come to Malfoy’s door. “Just—just how am I supposed to know?”

“Know what?” Malfoy seemed quite exasperated.

“Know if I could … if I could ever love you?” Harry forced out.

Malfoy’s face twisted, his eyes flashed. He snapped, “Well, I think I’ve given you about a lifetime’s worth of material. I’m not sure what more information you would need, Potter. You’ve seen about all the worst, most low moments of my entire life and now you’re here to rub that into my face by pretending you don’t even know me. The fucking nerve.”

H/D Wireless 2022 (@hd-wireless) revealed today, so here's my claim. I originally set out to write a somewhat angsty, hurt/comfort story to a completely different song, but my heart couldn't make that work right now. Life has been throwing curve balls at me this summer, and I needed fluff in my life.

So here you go, some fluff. I know what you're thinking: When DON'T I write fluff? And you're mostly right. Still, this one is extra fluffy and sticky-sweet. I hope you enjoy it.
