i've been preoccupied with gyaru shoes for a while now. particularly from the brands Idol, Question Mark and La Carte. unfortunately, a majority of these shoes are lost to time. my guess is that they all succumbed to the dreaded shoe rot. the show must go on. i've been trying to find shoes with similar sihouettes that can be purchased today. this is what i've found so far. hope this helps out some other old school gals

i think everyone already knows about the demonia 311's

but they're worth mentioning regardless. they are near identical to this iconic pair from La Carte

albeit without the wooden platform sole. you can purchase them on the demonia site Yosuke. my beloved. this brand is consistently making shoes reminiscent of the platforms worn by gals in the late 90s and early 2000s. i have so many shoes from Yosuke. but i recently saw this pair of shoes in the 1999 issue of Ranking Daisuki (this screenshot is from @gongal's scan. please check out their amazing website.)

and i knew i recognized the shape. Yosuke makes a similar style! it's not an exact match, of course, but it definitely has the same spirit

i bought mine off amazon jp. i tried to see if they were still available on yosuke's international site but i couldn't find them. if anybody has any leads on where my american/european gals can snag a pair pls let me know

and regrettably that place was doll's kill >:(

however, as far as i know these are no longer being sold on the website. but they are rather close to the original so if you're able to track them down secondhand i think that would be quite a score. and it also wouldn't be directly supporting doll's kill which is an added bonus

so! good news and bad news…

the good news is i’ve officially started shading the ghoul grumps illustration! i’m trying to do something a little out of my comfort zone, and it’s uhh. it’s um. it sure is

unfortunately, though, november into early december is looking very busy for me. (i’m actually working on a super exciting project i plan on posting here- i’m VERY good at making a fool of myself on the internet, so all i’m gonna say right now is that i am super super excited about this and i’ve been thinking about this project for literal years. get hype but keep your expectations low. establish like… moderate amounts of hype.)

tldr it’s looking like ghoul grumps is gonna take another month …at least :(
