This, as many things Viktor Krum, international Quidditch star and notorious grump says, earns him a sideways glance from Ginny.

“Is that a bad thing?” she asks. “Uneventful?”

Gwenog would kill her if she knew Ginny were sitting around fraternizing with a Puddlemere United player (the third one she’s fraternized with this week actually, Wilda being the first and Oliver the second). But Gwenog also can’t begrudge her this moment of relative peace, tucked away from any curious onlookers, safely cocooned in a Muggle garden in the back of a Muggle church: an excellent place to sit and eat.

She suspects she already knows his answer. A few years have passed, but in the slight hunch of his shoulders there is an echo of the boy who’d hidden in the library more often than not in an effort to escape a school of prying eyes.

“You know what was uneventful?” she continues easily, leaning back into the bench and watching a few London pigeons bob amongst the graves. “You catching the Snitch not thirty minutes into the damn match. Was uneventful bad? Viktor supposed not; he’d always preferred the quiet life—and no, the irony of his international career wasn’t lost on him. It had more been an observation about how little there was to talk about when things were just... ticking along. Human beings seemed to bond best in times of adversity, united by their common struggles, be it full-scale war or just that one really annoying teammate everyone hated.

But he and Ginny... What did they have to complain about these days—busy schedules and minor injuries?

He was just about to say something deep regarding the fleeting nature of happiness when she took the conversation in an entirely different direction, and the quiet chuckle that escaped him belied his surprise. Only Ginny could tease him about something like that with a straight face.

“Do you expect me to apologise for being good at my job?” he replied casually, his expression lightening up a little. There was a reason he liked spending time with her, and it mostly had to do with the way she could draw him out of his thoughts oh-so effortlessly.

“Maybe Gwen should focus on scouting you a better Seeker, if you’re struggling so much,” he continued, a definite teasing note stealing into his voice. It wasn’t a fair comment; the Harpies were one of the best teams all-around, especially since Ginny had joined. Even so, it felt good to turn the joke on her for once. “One that cares more about winning than showmanship.

“Or if you can’t afford it, I can give Parkin a few lessons—pro bono. I like to do my part for charity.”

Zeek is convinced this guy is in some sort of protective custody because how the hell else did he meet this random guy who didn't look the least bit bothered about being mugged (even by Gothamite standards) and then suddenly he has a job?? Gwen just gets random "Big sister" moments- but coming from someone who has friends of all ages, thats normal even for older friends. Its just even stronger for her. (doesnt help Alan looks on the verge of tears everytime she does something nice for him) Just assumes hes running away from a bad home life and making a new name of himself

Obi just genuienly does not give a fuck- they are the monarch of minding their own damm buisness. Do they pick up on conflicting stories? Yes they arent oblivious. Are they going to ask? No. Alan is their friend and a reliable one at that, no need to poke their nose in buisness that isnt theirs.

Info (may or may not become relevent in the fic, I just think is neat also for my own reference)

Located on The Narrows of Gotham city

All utensils and containers are thrifted so none of them match

Upstairs lounge is a mini library/book store

They sell baked goods and have a shitty service window where you can order diner style food/snacks

Regular game nights/other events (including jazz night which Tim vehelementaly refuses to attend)

Not uncommon for random strays to come hang out (no one tell their manager)

Have a photo wall of regular customers (it took several weeks of begging before Tim allowed Gwen to snap his pic and pin it up)

They have a whole buisness card holder on the counter people can advertise their shit

Owned by a former hippie from Washington and her husband from Sikkim

Almost gets robbed once a week but hey its Gotham, what can you do? (emphasis on almost)

Employees (named thus far, who I will also probably draw later)-

Gwen Parkins she/her- Main Barista Alans (Tims) BFF, utter sweetheart, but will cry if yelled at. Also plans like 80% of the work events. Wears clips in her hair that are "on theme" for whatever event is for the day (cat ones for work obvi) Never checks her bank account so doesnt notice Tim slipping in an extra 500-3k every month (tax free of course) and she ends up saving or donating half of it anyways. Zeek (Ezikel) Zoref he/they- Cook/Security Very open stoner, likes bullying his friends (kinda an asshole, but will apologize if too far), also loves Gotham for the fact he can and will fist fight customers given the oppertunity, and there are PLENTY of oppertunies. Carries around a bat. Almost became a Joker Goon out of nessesity but by sheer happenstance he tried robbing Alan who somehow got him an interview at the Cafe, even with zero experience. (Owes his life, but will never admit it) Allergic to mint and mourns mint gum everyday. From Crime Alley.

Obsidian Fowler they/them- Manager/Barista The reason shit gets done, newly recognized artist, meticiously does inventory because they find it fun. Gets stressed about hygine when his coworkers keep sneaking random strays in the cafe, but weak to begging. Did not give in when they brought in a Raccoon. Keeps offering Alan a job because "Please I cannot be the only competent member here" From Old Gotham.

Zeek (Ezekial) Zorof- He/They (Cook/Self appointed Security) Go to shift drink is an actual sugar nightmare coffee thats smothered in whip cream and caramel, loves mint and curses god everyday that hes allergic (doesn't stop him). Owns a tattoo gun, has used it, refuses to show the tattoos. Once tried to gaslit his manager to keep a feral raccoon after his coworker mistook it for a stray cat. Obsidian Fowler- They/Them (Sub Barista and Manager) (Their parents own the shop) Drinks either Fruity teas or a 7 shot espresso drink that tastes like utter despair (you can tell their mood by their drink order) also very fond of chocolate. Got roped into the family buisness and is now convinced the place will burn if they take more than a few days off. Once had to deal with being gaslit that what was very obviously a raccoon was actually just a very round and weird patterned cat.

But when he wakes up in his time, but now just a year after the Graysons death and appearance of the first Robin. Tim wouldnt let his family suffer again, even if it meant he couldnt join them.

Bruce Wayne is not "Brucie Wayne" Tim Drake is not "Timothy Drake"

They are both personas, a front to prevent people from looking at whats really under the surface. But sooner or later Tim should have known Gotham being a city of secrets, nothing stays buried forever. Especially not when the bats get involved with their trashy next door neighbor whose behavior seems more and more contriditory.

Tim had saved them all more times than he could count, maybe this time they could return the favor.
