Which part of Lord of the Rings is your favourit?
Oh! Where do I begin!?
When I was young, really young, Iā€™d have to say my favorite was reading about Sam defeating Shelob, as an elementary schooler who was deathly afraid of spiders.
Then I got a little bit older and my favorite part was Eowyn. I was too young to fully grasp her character arc, so at the time I just thought it was really cool seeing a woman swing a sword and win. (I dressed up as her for Halloween!)
Maybe a year after that, when I started writing my chapters a little longer, my characters a little darker, because I thought it was fun and interesting, my favorite chapter was the Scouring of the Shire. (Scourging? Scouring? Apparently I can never get it right, ha ha!)
Tom Bombadil was definitely my favorite atā€¦ some point? I mean, itā€™s Tom Bombadil!
But what is my favorite part in Lord of the Rings? Why do I read and read and read these books and watch the movies over and over? Well, Iā€™m afraid I canā€™t say it succinctly.
My favorite partā€¦
Every time I read Lord of the Rings I come across my new favorite part, my new favorite character. I forget the little nuances each year and discover something new every time, every time.
The Talking Fox that shows up for a thought and then is whisked away.
Beregond and Bergil, who take Pippin under their wing in Gondor when Faramir and Denethor and Gandalf are busy.
Boromir, poor Boromir, who Iā€™ve finally come to understand after all these years.
I love the snark of Bilbo in his notes to relatives, I love Frodo's inability to leave the Shire and his friends' inability to leave him. I love meeting Strider, not Aragorn, I love the quietness of Rivendell, I love how the Fellowship grows and interacts with each other. I love Boromir's short arc, I love the Three Hunters, I love the slow, deep thoughtfulness of Treebeard. I love Frodo's strength and hopeless hope, I love Sam's grounded nature and determination, I love every single poem and song that is thrown in there just because it can be. I love Faramir's wit, I love Gollum's complaining.
And I haven't even gotten to Return of the King.
In short (TL;DR), I discover my new favorite part every time I open up the book. Perhaps I'll be able to give you a better answer when I finish it again next year. :)

Megatronus Prime, the only ā€œotherā€ Prime people care about.
Tumblr media
And I think a lot of that is due to his simple concept: heā€™s the bad Prime. Heā€™s evil, brooding and will blow up the Sun out of spite.
His conceptual history starts with G2 where Simon Furman created the Liege Maximo as the evil ā€œPrimeā€, a natural counterbalance to the innate good of Primus. This guy was the First Decepticon of which Megatron is descended from biologically (technologically?). A lot of the older material insisted the Autobots and Decepticons were genetically distinct, right down to their moral compass.
During the Dreamwave comics era, Furman revisited the idea of an evil ā€œPrimeā€ once more, instead creating the first version of The Fallen.
Tumblr media
Originally intended as a Prime of destruction and rebirth, he became obsessed with destruction and became an Acolyte of Unicron, intending to sabotage Primus, but failed. He resurfaced during the early stages of the Great War, intending to finish what he started, but once again was met with failure and sealed away within Cybertron by Primus.
He would be revisited once again in RotF, taking on his more well known alien Egyptian look.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, Dreamwave had established a connection with The Fallen and Jetfire, something that ROTF also used, but not to the same extent. Dreamwave intended for The Fallen to posses Jetfire, but it never came to pass. Prior to that, The Fallen had possessed Sunstorm, a Starscream Clone Shockwave created, so ROTF called back more to its roots than people think, using Jetfire and the Seekers.
Because of the success of the Bay films, this version of The Fallen was what people think of regarding an evil Prime, along with him being pretty cool in general.
In this version, this Fallen betrayed his fellow Primes to claim the Sun of Earth, not caring for the human life on it, finding it beneath him. The Primes didnā€™t want to claim suns of inhabited worlds, so this was pretty much treason. The Fallen was sealed away after a huge battle, but he resurfaced in the modern era, intent to reclaim Earthā€™s Sun out of pure pettiness (ROTF explains the Allspark needed recharged with the energy of suns, but with its destruction, it wasnā€™t necessary to claim the Sun for that anymore).
The movie famously doesnā€™t fully explain where The Fallen came from, just that he was already onboard the Nemesis, soaking up Energon and giving Megatron his marching orders to kill Optimus, find the Matrix, and recover the Star Harvester buried in Egypt.
The IDW movie comics go more in depth, explaining The Fallen was sealed in a sarcophagus on Cybertron that Optimusā€™ science team dug up during an archaeological expedition. The relic called to Megatron, influencing the temperamental brute already having issues with Optimus, to become the future tyrant and leader of the Decepticons.
Along with the movie being the prototype for the modern Prime mythology, it also was the first to claim The Fallen was the First Decepticon and that his face influenced the Decepticon logo.
Itā€™s not super clear in the movie itselfā€¦
Tumblr media
ā€¦but the comics make the distinction more obvious.
Tumblr media
Early concept art also tried to make the connection clearer.
Tumblr media
These concepts would eventually feed into the TFONE Fallenā€™s design. Having a bulky tank like body of his Dreamwave self, wearing a mask that is clearly the Decepticon logo as was intended in ROTF, along with having the scepter of his ROTF counterpart. The Decepticon mask has led to some confusion among some fans, his mask, cannon and predominantly purple body resemble Tarn from IDW.
Tumblr media
Itā€™s not meant to be Tarn, as he didnā€™t originate the look, the real world version of this is Soundwaveā€™s face inspired the logo, but Tarn is the most well known among fans to rock the look. That said, Tarn probably did influence the look a little.
Unlike his counterparts, the ONE version of MP never became The Fallen, instead the context weā€™re given is this version valiantly defended Cybertron from the invading Quintessons. Being loaded with weapons and having an imposing size, Megatronus Prime was the most powerful Prime. In the modern era, Megs was also the most popular (probably a reference to his ROTF popularity) with many Bots having merch of him, D-16 being a HUGE fan in particular.
Megatronus sadly was one of the first to fall to Sentinelā€™s betrayal, being slain and his Cog taken as a trophy that Sentinel installed himself. D-16, learning of his idolā€™s fate and Sentinelā€™s role in it, was LIVID. D-16ā€™s evolution to Megatron was complete when he stole back the Cog, and installed it in himself, gaining a form similar to his idol. I feel like Megatronus Prime is just saying ā€œYOUā€™RE NOT AFFILIATED WITH ME!ā€
Another deviation was Aligned and IDW.
Tumblr media
The Aligned version seems to be where TFONE MP takes his primary look from, but still using Dreamwave and ROTF as mentioned before. Funny enough this is the only design besides ONE that clearly communicates MPā€™s head influenced the Decepticon logo.
The name Megatronus was coined here, Hasbroā€™s attempt at creating a more obvious connection to The Fallen and Megatron, though many fans have expressed irritation at the name, feeling it sounds too stupid. Alignedā€™s intentions were to paint him as more of a brooding antihero, possibly another means to connect him to Megatron, whose more infamous roles in Prime Wars, IDW and EarthSpark paint him as a repenting antihero type.
Aligned saw him accidentally kill his girlfriend Solus Prime following subtle manipulation by Liege Maximo, but an embittered Megatronus got the last laugh by figuring out what had happened and secretly killing Maximo. He then went off into self exile, mirroring something Megatron would later do at the end of Prime, making it feel weirdly pre-ordained.
IDW went a similar direction, but its Megatronus started as a scared, nameless robot who witnessed Shockwave murdering Onyx in prehistoric times. Shockwave recognizing who the robot was according to legend named him Megatronus, and molded the nomad to become the brooding Ow the Edge warrior the legends foretold. This Megatronus started a series of campaigns that saw Cybertron united under his Darklands kingdom, and, notably, recruit Galvatron and his then brother Arcee to his cause. After the formation and fall of the Primes, Shockwave later killed his student off world, his purpose having been served to keep history and his own plans on track.
RiD15 meanwhile opted to make Megatronus its first major big bad, with Optimus training in the Prime Realm to defeat him.
Tumblr media
Despite being the same character in the Covenant of Primus, this take on him pushed him closer to the more familiar ROTF version: trapped in another dimension, having psychic powers, a Void Scepter, manipulating the Decepticons to ensure his release, and wanting to take petty revenge against Earth. The last one is odd, because Megatronus never visited Earth before, nor is there any Aligned material that describes a humiliating campaign on Earth he was a part of. Iā€™ve always wondered if it was supposed to be a relapsed MEGATRON, stewing over his life, got frustrated and decided to take out Earth and Cybertron in an ā€œIf I canā€™t have it than nobody can!ā€ moment. Concept art for Megatron DOES exist for RiDā€™s early development so itā€™s possible such an idea was entertained.
Anyway Megatronus uses a relic to combine the powers of the Allspark and Unicronā€™s Anti-Spark to trigger a chain reaction that would destroy both planets but heā€™s stopped by the Bee Team with the power of friendship and combining their Decepticon Hunters into a giant Dragonball Z energy blast. It would appear The Fallen is super dead here, as heā€™s never depicted going back to the Prime Realm, nor do the Primes seem that shook up their brother was vaporized.
The final version of the Fallen that appears is in the Prime Wars trilogy, again evoking his more popular ROTF form and abilities. Here he strikes a Mazinger Z like design I kinda dig, too bad it didnā€™t stick.
Tumblr media
His primary goal was to revive his lost love Solus Prime, and he chooses to do so by rigging a device using the Matrix and other relics to steal the Sparks of all Transformers to revive Solusā€™ Spark. Inevitability this plan fails, and a so over him Solus drags her now ex boyfriend into The Well of Allsparks to undo the damage. It feels like they were trying to imitate the 90ā€™s Mummy films, but it doesnā€™t work at all here. Not to mention we still donā€™t have a clear understanding on who Solus is in animation, and the ROTF personality used for Megs doesnā€™t fit for the tragic love story they tried to tell. Maybe if it was intentionally more like Heathers? PW Solus does have a Veronica Sawyer vibe, and PW Megatronus is basically JDā€¦.
While the ROTF personality tends to be the dominant one in most of his appearances, making Megs the most tonally consistent Prime, his more heroic role in ONE is a surprise. As such if he is meant to be a regular hero, thereā€™s a fan theory that Sentinel corrupted Megsā€™ Cog, and when D-16 got it, it was corrupted further, when D evolved into Megatron, glowing an eerie purple the other Prime Cogs didnā€™t. Itā€™s possible this was the writersā€™ way of subtly referencing Megatronusā€™ usual evil antics, or maybe MPā€™s Cog was built differently because he was the cool Prime.
One other thing thatā€™s funny, is Megatronus is the only Prime that consistently Transforms. Most of his appearances depict him as a space tank, but a few opt for some sort of space craft. Interestingly, the ROTF comics material states the Primes and Transformers are separate species, as the Primes canā€™t Transform. (How this is different for Sentinel and Optimus is never properly explained.)
However, toys show The Fallen becoming an alien air craft, with early concepts showing him Scanning and taking on an Earth mode: a bomber plane, contradicting this concept. Itā€™s possible this was the comics taking advantage of The Fallen never Transforming in scripts they had to work with and were just assuming.
Whatā€™s still amusing is outside of a gun, The Fallen largely assumes military vehicles like Megatron does, strengthening their connections, albeit somewhat annoyingly. Again that preordained feel.
While we donā€™t see what TFONE Megs turns into, safe bet heā€™s probably a space tank, but making him a Triple Changer to incorporate the aircraft would be funny.

Usopp, Representation, and the Black Experience: My Perspective (maybe TL;DR)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: This post reflects my personal interpretation and connection with Usopp's character. I understand that not everyone may share the same perspective, and that's okay. This is just my own take based on my experiences and thoughts about identity and representation.
When it comes to Black characters, Iā€™ve noticed a recurring theme where they often distance themselves from their non-Black friends or take time away due to personal struggles. Itā€™s a reflection of the weight they carry, and sometimes thereā€™s even some regret for doing so. I can think of plenty of shows that have touched on this, and honestly, I get it. A lot of Black people, myself included, feel the need to face things alone, likely because of deep-rooted issues tied to our history, upbringing, and the challenges of navigating predominantly non-Black spacesā€”especially when tokenism is involved.
Iā€™ve been that person, and in many ways, I still am. My sister and mom often joke that Usopp feels like a Black guy with a lot of ā€œwhiteā€ friends. They also mention how Black men, especially those in subcultures like the hipster scene, often juggle two social circles. My cousin, a big One Piece fan, is the perfect example of this. Even Jacob Gibson, who plays Usopp in the live-action series, gives off a similar vibe.
I know this might come off as blunt or even as a generalization, but to me, Usopp reflects a part of the Black experience. Heā€™s like the Lando (or Finn) in Star Wars, Link Hayes in The Mod Squad, Noah in Young Riders, and Marcellus in The Originals. Heā€™s the Renee in Ally McBeal, Tucker in Danny Phantom, Black Panther in Avengers, Cyborg in Teen Titans, Gerald in Hey Arnold, James Rhodes in Iron Man, Chris Washington in Get Out, Ben in Night of the Living Dead, and Christopher in Scrubs. Heā€™s that Black guy.
Maybe One Piece could show Usopp as more than just his race, but itā€™s hard to ignore the connection. And thatā€™s okay. Itā€™s something Iā€™ve been reflecting on for a while, and I wanted to share it.

Roswell New Mexico - Master Fic Rec Post
See under the cut for thirty-four total recs, predominantly Malex. There's also 10 additional in the "Recs Less Travelled" project here.
a few drinks and some conversationĀ byĀ @christchex
Michael Guerin makes a friend who isnā€™t his sibling, an ex, or a siblingā€™s ex.
Astriferous SeaĀ byĀ hrhbrittany,Ā Sismyn
Alex has always been the baby among the sirens in the Dead Sea. Michael is performing beard services for his sister. Communication is a little wishy-washy.
This AU came out of nowhere and smacked me right with theĀ ā€˜Iā€™ve always wanted this and I just never knewā€™. It has sirens and rescues and bad guys and false relationships and real marriages and rings and drama and romance. It honestly reminds me (in the best way) of an exciting romance novel and Iā€™m so jazzed thereā€™s still one part left to it.
The BachelorĀ by Sweetgirl2019
After the events of high school, Michael, Isobel & Max moved to California while Liz, Maria & Kyle stayed in Roswell and Alex went to war overseas. Once his enlistment period ends, Alex gets thrown into something that brings him and Michael back together again.
So I think this might be my favourite to see updated right now. It should be a run-of-the-mill fluffy AU, yet the author threw this incredible curveball by using the alien background in a canon divergence to turn The Bachelor into both a romantic dramedy for the boys, but also keeping the looming threat of people finding out about aliens in the background. Also, I think this is top tier pining that you will actively feel in your own chest, thatā€™s how good it is.Ā
blink back to let me knowĀ by haloud - Roswell New Mexico
Alex doesnā€™t have important conversations over the phone when he can avoid them. It feels too much like going in blind. But in some ways, the phone makes it easierā€“itā€™s easier to break when no oneā€™s looking.
Itā€™s Mylex and the 5th in a series, and every part is worth reading, but I definitely re-read parts 4 and 5 a lot. Itā€™s so well written and the dynamic isĀ mwahĀ and I love how Kyle fits into this. One of my favourite pieces in this is how Kyle reacts to his father in relation to Michael & Caulfield and itā€™s an amazing read.
built this house on memoriesĀ by @villanellve
He wakes up eight years in the future, and everything is strange, but Alex is there.
YOU GUYS. If you were to write a list of tropes I adore, this would be way up there at the top because of how much I love it. I am a sucker for a character having to be removed from their situation to learn (whether itā€™s an alternate universe or the future or the past), but this one is so achingly painful and perfect and hopeful. I love the callout that the situation is almost too hard for Alex, I love the resolution at the end on Michaelā€™s part, and you could just soak in the happiness and comfort of their future lives if you let yourself.
Canā€™t Get NoĀ by one_flying_ace
ā€œTheyā€™re on round two already,ā€ he says, tilting his head towards the truck again, ā€œor maybe three.ā€ Guerin grimaces, and thatā€™s fair; itā€™s his brother, after all. ā€œYou know how theyā€™re feeling. Could I handle it, if you stopped-ā€ being in control, he doesnā€™t say, but Guerin shudders. ā€œIā€™m good, Alex. Just keep the hell away.ā€ (Or: alien sex rocks donā€™t make them do it, but they sure do help.)
Sex pollen/sex-or-die fics are pretty much a requirement, but this is my absolute favourite and I have re-read it more times than I can tell you (letā€™s put it at six or seven?) The restraint that Michael has in this is amazing, but the mental images of it are incredible as well. I loved Max and Lizā€™s secondary presence as well and how each character was tonally perfect down to the little things (like Max not noticing Michaelā€™s sex marks). What a good. What a hot. What amazing.
Constant as the Northern StarĀ by celzmccelz
Michael stares at Kyle. ā€œBut Iā€™m a guy! How can I be pregnant?ā€ Kyle looks embarrassed. ā€œWell, you appear to have a fully functioning set of female reproductive organsā€”or, I mean, like, the kind of reproductive organs that are associated with a double X-chromosome in humans, so Iā€™d assume that you probably became pregnant when semen was introduced into your reproductive tractā€”ā€ ā€œJesus Christ, Kyle!ā€ says Michael. He could have happily lived the rest of his life without ever hearing Kyle Valenti say the words ā€œsemenā€ and ā€œreproductive tract.ā€ Kyleā€™s eyes widen. ā€œHave you been having unprotected sex?ā€ ā€œOh my God, I am not having this conversation with you!ā€
Yes, going in, there are some warnings to be cognizant of. Itā€™s mpreg, thereā€™s a lot of medical stuff to go through, but I think this is my absolute favourite of the mpregs Iā€™ve read and it actually comes down to Michaelā€™s support system outside of Alex, namely in Kyle. Thereā€™s no sudden BFF bracelets being given, but that morality that makes Kyle Valenti who he is, thatā€™s right there. Also, given that this is an mpreg fic, it delves into family and plot in a way that I havenā€™t often seen. Plus, you get theĀ ā€˜getting back togetherā€™ Malex that I so deeply crave.
Contigo me encontrƩ by beautifulcheat (Katalyst), ladynox
The Lockhart House was once a home, although it was never a happy one. Steeped in tragedy, it still stands today, in the heart of Old Town Roswell, attracting ghost hunters and those seeking to catch a peak of something from beyond the veil.
Contrary to popular myth, it wasnā€™t currently haunted (except by one paranormally talented docent). It was Michaelā€™s favorite job and the best part of his summer home from UNM. Or at least was until Alex Manes was hired to man the gift shop, complicating an otherwise fun and easy job.
everywhere on earth you goĀ -Ā @evepolastried
Across the room, he can still see how Michael Guerin is looking at him. And thatā€™s something different, something new, something so very familiar. The thrill of nerves, of guilt, of want. Alex smiles, and he starts to sing. (OR: Alex Manes grabs his guitar and gets the hell out of Roswell in 2008, and he leaves behind a letter. Hereā€™s what happens ten years later)
I love this. This one has something incredible, and itā€™s something I called out, but it has this amazing work with pace. Thereā€™s a frantic moment at the bar and itā€™s chaos, and you feel it. Itā€™s rushed and wild and crazy, but then everything slows down and it gets perfect. Thereā€™s Michael, thereā€™s Alex, thereā€™s music, and itā€™s such a great ride.
Family MattersĀ byĀ @bestillmyslashyheart
Isobel is telepathic. Most of the time she ignores it. She used to pick up on otherā€™s peopleā€™s emotions but sheā€™s long since learned to tune that out. Until one night she canā€™t. Someone, somewhere is in such a state that itā€™s spilling over and sheā€™s left to deal with the brunt of it. Or, Michael keeps things close to the vest until he canā€™t. The night after Alex leaves him at the drive-in, everything heā€™s feeling bubbles up inside until it spills over onto Isobel. Suddenly heā€™s left with no other choice but to open up.
This is an early fandom piece, but I still think itā€™s held up to an immensely amazing rate. Not only that, but I love how it delves into powers, Michael and Isobelā€™s relationship, and the incredible idea of spillover, which I still actively wish would become canon because of this fic. I think itā€™s so IC, especially with Michaelā€™s active wish not to talk about it that he screws himself over in his sleep and seriously, itā€™s such a good read for both Isobel & Michael stuff, but also Michael & Alex.
the first who ever didĀ -Ā nostaljinks
Five times Michael saves Alex + 1 time Alex saves Michael back.
I feel like there arenā€™t enough words that I can heap onto this of praise. This fic is well-written, well-plotted, well-thought out, well-everything. Itā€™s a beautiful emotional roller coaster and will make you ACHE, but in a great way. It also is the right amount of long that you want more, but you also get it, and itā€™s just as quality as the rest. ABSOLUTE must read.
fish bowlĀ byĀ @sabrinachill
Alex makes a series of phone calls and bad choices that lead him directly here ā€” an Airstream on the edge of a junkyard with a distractingly attractive mechanic showing him how the dining table converts into a bed that he can sleep on for just $75 a week. It is, of course, completely absurd. But thereā€™s something cozy about the fuzzy yellow blanket on the bed/table and the sparkling sunlight streaming through the mostly-clean windows, in the smell of leather and motor oil and aftershave and summer storms, in the hopeful half-smile on Michaelā€™s face. Thatā€™s his name ā€” Michael. Alexā€™s potential new roommate and landlord. (AKA An AU About Quarantined Roommates Who Fall in Love)
I highly recommend anything byĀ @sabrinachill, but this fic is a really clear argument about why. Itā€™s an AU that involves quarantine, and you might thinkĀ ā€˜oh, Iā€™ve read that beforeļæ½ļæ½, but then it will take you down the unexpected road that you didnā€™t expect to go down, but as soon as you take that twist, you instantly realize how much better it is that way. Hats off to the clever plotting not just in Fish Bowl, but other fics!Ā
Funny How Things Never ChangeĀ -Ā @waroftheposesā€‹
ā€œWhat can I do for you?ā€ Michael asks, turning to face Alex. Alex can tell the moment that Michaelā€™s mind registers who heā€™s addressing, because the polite smile drops from his face and the hat falls from his hand. He stands there, eyes wide and unbelieving, looking at Alex. Alex takes a deep breath, willing his racing heart to settle. ā€œWell,ā€ he begins and is his voice shaking? ā€œFor starters you can get your stubborn ass over here and give me a divorce.ā€ ā€“ (AĀ Sweet Home AlabamaĀ AU)
Yooooo, guess who was bereft when she thought she lost this link. It was absolutely me. This AU makes me happy in so many ways, especially the storms in the desert motif that keeps coming back around, and also that itā€™s messy. I like that itā€™s not cut and dry, that it goes right up until the wedding, and that it takes some real talk for them to get back together. I love fics where they all get to be human and this one is just so good.Ā
I Know Nothing Stays The SameĀ by aewriting
ā€œAlex doesnā€™t believe in miracles until one happens to him. His father has a hammer in one hand and Alexā€™s throat in the other. As Alexā€™s consciousness fades, heā€™s dimly aware of movement. His fatherā€™s about to swing the hammer, and this is how Alex will die.ā€ When an unexplainable force puts a stop to Jesseā€™s attack in the shed, Alex and Michael are forced to go on the run. Leaving Roswell is an easy decision, but navigating the consequences of that choice months and even years later proves to be much more complicated.
I think this one became a must read very early on, but then itā€™s continued to deliver. Thereā€™s been a few stories that delve into the characters getting therapy, but thereā€™s a whole chapter here where it genuinely feels cathartic as we go through the process with Alex. This fic also is an excellent and long version of an AU I think that weā€™ve all wondered, about what would happen if they ran away, and itā€™s so well written and soĀ realĀ that I know I will be re-reading this a ton. Like many of the others, why I love it is because itā€™s not perfection, but itā€™s the kind of real where I want to wrap myself up in it.Ā
i wonā€™t go, i canā€™t do it on my ownĀ byĀ @queersirius
alex tries to let go by giving back the pieces of michael heā€™s kept
Millie has a bunch of AMAZING AUs (guys, the 10 Things I Hate About You is something I never thought Iā€™d get, especially from a favourite author), but i think this one is actually my favourite, especially when it comes to the ship piece that Alex has. Again, when I talk aboutĀ ā€˜fics that make me want to be betterā€™, this one was one. The writing is engaging, the characterization is fabulous, and the emotions are so honest and real. Then thereā€™s this line, like a gut punch:Ā Ā ā€œBecause itā€™s the last thing I have of you,ā€ he admits. ā€œThe last piece of you I have to let go of.ā€Ā which I love because itā€™s still Alexā€™s journey, an honest attempt to offer closure (if closure is wanted).Ā
in some other lifeĀ -Ā @spaceskamā€‹
michael tries to build a time machine, but ends up in a different reality all together
There are a lot of these that have been written and they are all quality, but I love this one especially because of how we get into Alex in the other universe, get the glimpse of this unknown Michael, but also the scene that strikes this one out for me is that AlexĀ doesnā€™tĀ want to let him go. I love that Alex gets to be selfish, that he begs for him to stay, and that we donā€™t get the automatic happy ending in that, but thereā€™s still the hope for it. Also, Alex the Angel, unf.Ā
intimate encounters of the third kindĀ byĀ @alexmanes
Three years after Antar and its people take Earth under their wings, Roswell becomes the epicenter for human-alien relations between both planets. It doesnā€™t take very long for Alex Manes to find himself embroiled in a scandal that threatens this intergalactic partnership, all thanks to a beautiful man named Michael Guerin who is not nearly as human as he claims to be.
Okay, so, if you likeĀ No Love Like Your Love, the truth is that you have this fic to thank. This was my first introduction in RNM fandom as to what a really amazing fic could be that incorporated the royalty elements into the pairing. Once 1x12 aired and we met Michaelā€™s mother, it was pretty much a done deal that I wanted to do something that played with that, but this is the actual inspiration. Itā€™s well plotted, it has a great ensemble cast, and plays with the kind of care that it takes to know your plot inside and out, but also to leave breadcrumbs that guide the reader along. Itā€™s very methodical in the sense that nothing is by accident and it has you on the edge of your seat.
Itā€™s a long road back to youĀ byĀ @magsthemagical
Michael finds out that Alex is dating Forrest and heā€™s okay with it, until heā€™s not. Maria suggests a double date to show they can all hang out as friends. But they canā€™tā€¦ not really. [OR the one where Michael & Alex realize that they belong together and so they say goodbye to their respective relationships and start anew]
Honest truth time - in terms ofĀ ā€˜ships, while I always love people to ship and let ship, my personal preference for both Michael and Alex is one another, so both Maria/Michael and Forrest/Alex arenā€™t things that I usually seek out when trawling Ao3. This fic is so good to all parties involved. No one is a villain and I appreciate that they get to talk about things like Alexā€™s reticence to do certain things in public, but also being aware that Alex deserves to have something new as much as Michael.
Last Stop: This TownĀ byĀ @ubiestcaelum
Someone asked what it would have been like if Michael had gone home with the Evanā€™s and I couldnā€™t let it go.
Am I cheating because I requested this? idk, maybe, because another one I requested will end up here too. I am addicted to the idea of Michael getting the support system he needs, but THIS FIC takes it to the most impossibly amazing level and fleshes out the Evans parents in such an incredible way. I love that itā€™s not super sunshine and rainbows, but itā€™s an honest telling of raising kids (and maybe too many kids versus what you expected). I know this is only in progress (several today will be), but even as it is, itā€™s worth reading multiple times, because I know I have.
let me count the waysĀ byĀ @queersirius
liz ortecho isnā€™t allowed to date until her snarky, determined-not-to-date brother, alex ortecho, does. luckily, one of her suitors has a plan. well, max goes to isobel for a plan, which involves getting their brother, michael, to woo alex. or, theĀ 10 things i hate about youĀ AU
Obviously this needs to be here as I desperately pleaded for it to exist, but itā€™s so beyond what it might be as a mini tumblr ficlet and has become a whole world. Itā€™s not just a great Malex story, itā€™s an amazing story for all the characters and really fleshes out a world, but weaves in the RNM characters perfectly, but also gives me a dynamic I want more of, in Alex being an Ortecho. When King Manes and his sons are caught illegally hunting on Antarian lands, King Noah gives King Manes a choice - correctly answer a riddle or accept death. A year-long search for the correct answer ensues, leading the youngest son of the king, Alex, to strike a bargain with a mysterious woman who claims to know the answer. This is an AU of the Arthurian legend ā€œSir Gawain and the Dame Ragnell.ā€
Love at First SassĀ -Ā @daffietjuh
Taking a class of 30 high school kids on a school trip to an Air Force base was about as exhausting as it sounds, luckily, the Captain giving them the tour is perfectly capable of handling a group of rowdy teenagers. Michael may be slightly in love Okay, so first of all, if you havenā€™t read any of the authorā€™s other work, you should. The AUs are fantastic and the hockey one is still one of my favourites ever, but this one also just was exactly what I needed. It was sexy and flirty and fun, but also fit their personalities perfectly!
Everything in the Michael Sanders AU, by prouvaireafterdark which is a fantastic series that gives us what we all wanted, which is Walt Sanders giving Michael the home he deserved (and getting one right back).
My love is a life takerĀ byĀ @jocarthage
By the time he turned 15, Captain Alex Manes had been to every war zone and unofficial conflict the United States of America was involved in. It wasnā€™t regular practice, or even heard of, for a Colonel to bring his son along on combat missions; the exception was if the child had been identified as Time Aware, able to travel in time along their own timeline using stolen alien technology. So here Alex Manes was, 28, and ducking bombs, killing who heā€™s told to. On his way back from a mission, Alex slips into another timestream. It should be impossible. But he can hear a child crying and he heads towards the sound. This is the story of how Alex saved Michael and Michael saved Alex, with lots of time travel shenanigans and angst.
This story is incredible for so many reasons and one of them I continue to praise is the balance. Itā€™s an Alex driven story, but you can break his life down into friends, mission, family, and Michael, and often those elements combine, but thereā€™s never any update that doesnā€™t give youĀ enoughĀ (imo). Itā€™s excellent writing with engaging OCs and wonderful plot, and the most incredible love story.
not in this world (or the next)Ā byĀ @hannah-writes
It isnā€™t until he realises he canā€™t find the keys for his fucking truck anywhere and that thereā€™s mail on the table addressed to Mr M Evans that Noah called him ā€˜Evansā€™, too. He fumbles inside the wallet that heā€™d managed to locate and pulls out a New Mexico licence with his picture on it; he doesnā€™t have a black eye and a split lip in this one, his hairā€™s tamed and he doesnā€™t look like heā€™s gone three days without showering. His date of birth is stamped, clear and correct, but then where his name should read ā€˜Michael Guerinā€™, it reads ā€œMichael Evansā€™ and the address registered on the license is that of Max and Isobelā€™s childhood home. Noah had also said ā€˜your momā€™sā€™. Not ā€˜Mrs Evansā€™. It feels like a bucket of ice waterā€™s dumped over his head as he finally accepts that something is very, very wrong. (aka, the fic spawned from a tumblr prompt about Michael waking up in a parallel reality.)
This one, guys. This is an absolute beast of angst and love and a really well plotted story, but also is really amazing for how it creates Mikey, but also creates motive behind what drives both Michael and Mikey in ways that are the same, but also different. Genuinely, this fic is a great read because you get so much attention to the characters while also driving along the relationships, and who they are.Ā

Alex Manes was perfectly happy with his job at Colden Records but when his visa is rejected and deportation looms, marrying his assistant Michael Evans is his only option. And when they make a trip to Alaska to see Michaelā€™s family, everything becomes a lot more complicated.

Shadow WorkĀ -Ā @myrmidryad
After his discharge from the Air Force, Alex Manes is working as a shade - a professional ghost hunter - when Michael Guerin tracks him down. Alex left Roswell thirteen years ago and never went back, but overnight Michaelā€™s family has vanished and the supernatural activity in Roswell has exploded, and he wants Alexā€™s help. Featuring: ghosts, more ghosts, metaphorical ghosts, and a lot of sex without talking about feelings. Also missing family members, government conspiracies, and gratuitous worldbuilding.
No, YOU DONā€™T UNDERSTAND. I canā€™t rec this enough. Literally, this is a novel-type rec. If this were a book on a shelf, I would be shouting that you need to go read it, because it is literally good enough to be a published work on a best-selling list. Itā€™s so fucking good. Every time you think it canā€™t get better, it does. It has nuance and plot and world-building and it is So. Fucking. Good. I could sit here and sing praises all day and it still wouldnā€™t be enough. Please give yourself a holiday treat and read it.
The World Forgetting, By The World ForgotĀ by Anonymous
Michael and Alex erase each other from their memories. It does not go according to plan. [Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Roswell style]
I mean, I could rec anything by Anonymous and it would be worth your read. Theyā€™re so good and so in character,Ā  but this one is my favourite. Itā€™s angsty as fuck, donā€™t get me wrong, but it plays with the movie plot in such a Roswell-specific way that makes sense that I honestly never even compared or contrasted it to the movie past the first few beats. The pain is visceral, and the memory loss segment is incredible, but also delivers on a positive ending.Ā
To Trust LoveĀ byĀ @laughsalot3412Ā
The prisonerā€™s voice sounded like home. He could have been raised in Roswell, the way his accent stretched his vowels. He definitely hadnā€™t been. Alex would have remembered eyes like those. (AU where Alex Manes goes on an undercover rescue mission in Caulfield Prison and forms a bond with one of the prisoners in the process.)
I donā€™t have enough words in the English language to praise this one. Honestly, I donā€™t. For one, the pace and the length is perfect. That we got the parts as quickly as we did was honestly such a treat, but then every part was just as high quality as the last. There are chapters in this one that made me go,Ā ā€œholy shit, this wouldā€™ve been a novel I readā€, and then there are little emotional impacts where the tone shifts, but it works so well. Itā€™s SO HOT, and the AU is so perfect, and also helped inspire the one that I wrote last night with theĀ ā€œgenieā€.Ā

ā€œThink you can manage that? Sitting next to me, without picking a fight?ā€ Michael challenged. ā€œCanĀ you?ā€ Alex returned. ā€œNo idea,ā€ Michael admitted with a sideways grin that never failed to make Alexā€™s stomach turn over, ā€œBut Iā€™m eager to find out.ā€ Alex is avoiding everyone, but he canā€™t seem to escape Michael.
This whole fic is intensely amazing, but it got on my rec list for the absolutely electric scene with the dancing that was absolutely beyond incredible. You also get Michael courting Alex, which is something he utterly deserves and I love the way Michael goes about it.Ā

ā€œPapaā€™s on the spaceship again?ā€ River asks, his bright green eyes welling with tears and his face growing red. ā€œCominā€™ back?ā€ ā€œOf course he is,ā€ Alex says, smoothing down the sonā€™s hair and adjusting the Mickey ears atop his head. ā€œAlways.ā€ There is no easy way to explain to your three year-old that not only is he an alien, but his Papa is an alien and that apparently, Michael loves leaning hard into irony because he has gone on Space Mountain approximately ten times over the course of four days.
LOOK. I LOVE A SWEET KID FIC. The next rec will prove this, but this one will melt your fucking heart. I love it because itā€™s not perfect and easy. Thereā€™s difficulties, there are issues, but itā€™s Michael and Alex and their baby boy in Disney and if you do not come away feeling warmer from this, then I just donā€™t know.Ā

Again, fic that makes me wish that I could write as well as this. This one makes you feel it all. Youā€™ll feel the cold, the wet, the storm, the pain, the hope, the healing. You feel the connection between Michael and Alex, and youā€™ll be left wishing at the end that this had been how canon went, but also that itā€™s justifiably not that far off from how it could have, had they taken a different tack, because of how well itā€™s written.Ā

I never let myself really believe they'd bring Tech back (because Occam's razor, or whatever). And I'm so used to weird/bad writing choices from other works that I'm mostly able to shrug my shoulders and go "aw rats, disappointment again :\" about TBB's ending.
... But I still feel kinda hollowed-out, post-finale. I'm not autistic (I think), but my sibling is, so it meant something to my old withered heart that a Star Wars show about family would have a confirmedly-ND character among their cast (though, somewhat tangentially, I agree with your post about all of the Bad Batch being arguably ND-coded). I was delighted that he was well-written, and that he'd eclipsed the stock "smart guy" trope he'd started out as in TCW.
And, I dunno. I feel like a sucker, having hoped for a brief moment that the writers wouldn't throw all that away. And for what? People on reddit were saying for months on end that "his sacrifice is meaningful and shouldn't be wasted", but I can't agree. I think it would've been more meaningful had he lived.
I feel disappointed with the trajectory the back half of S3 took, and I don't think that's unreasonable. Even beyond the disappointment of "dang, they really did that?", S3 after the first handful of eps (imo) felt kind of... rushed? Underexplored? Like there should've been a season 4 (for pacing/development's sake) and various changes to the plot, but there weren't.
Told myself several years ago that I'd reserve judgment for the writing until the series was over and done with. And now that it's all just wrapped up, I suppose I'm stewing with my thoughts, a little. The character arcs all feel like they fell short of their potential payoff, to me -- and maybe I'll change my mind in a few months, but right now? Eh.
Crosshair's got PTSD/trauma that makes his hand shake? Cut off the hand. Omega's got potential force sensitivity/a decision to make concerning what to do going forward? Who cares about that. Tech's getting a decent (and suspicious, in hindsight) amount of character development? Better kill him off so the audience really feels the sting. Cid, Phee, CX-2, Echo, Scorch? Who cares about them; they can show up when their skills are needed and fuck off without halfway-decent closure when they aren't. The familial/sibling themes that were open to being explored? Eh; let's focus predominantly on this one father-child bond. Omega doesn't even need to say goodbye to Crosshair and Wrecker, lol. Foreshadowing and setup? What foreshadowing and setup.
... I'm realizing that I'm actually Quite disappointed lmao. In a lackluster "I don't know what I expected" kind of way. Time to read so many fix-its
There's just a lot that was set up that never came to fruition and it's frustrating when the show has been so good up until that point. And the thing is that Tech being CX-2 would have resolved at least some of it! The CX-2 plot obviously but also, Crosshair's guilt and trauma being helped by being able to fix at least one of his mistakes? Omega's guilt over putting her family in danger being relieved because she finally has them all back?
It didn't even need to be fleshed out, I wouldn't have cared. The only thing I wanted this whole show was the family to be together and complete. And not only did we not get Tech back but yeah Echo was basically just not counted as part of that and Phee was ignored in the end.
This season feels like it needed another editing pass to work as a whole, even though I'd liked everything up to the finale it didn't really end up coming together for me. I'd even have accepted Tech being gone if they had put actual mourning in the first half, instead of stringing it along with little mentions and the CX-2 stuff. I'd be frustrated and mad, but at least it would have felt like they respected him as a character.
Really the only good things I have to say is I think Nala Se blowing up the databanks was a fantastic end to her character that didn't really redeem everything she's done but did bring her to an interesting stopping point. And I am glad everyone else made it out alive. I'm glad that Crosshair especially did after everything he's been through, he's still my boy after all this time even if the Tech stuff has overshadowed a lot of his growth in my head.

Yooooo! What if George had the plans for the Prequels down back in the 90s and Joruus C'Baoth was secretly a Count Dooku clone?
GEODE MY MAN! What's up??! I love this ask so much because it made me do the thing I like best: run down a rabbit hole that ends with me dragging out Lord of Misrule and re-reading Christopher Leeā€™s delightful, if vaguely bemused chapter on filming AotC.
So, Dookuā€™s origins: while I think Lucas had profound, interesting thoughts on Dookuā€™s character outside of his obvious tropism, I always thought he created the character predominantly FOR Christopher Lee and classic film villain homage. You know: Count Dooku/Count Dracula, the cape, the tastiness of having Sir Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing in his original trilogy and needing a fitting cultural icon from that same golden generation for his new one...Ā
But in the memoir, Christopher Leeā€™s own account of getting the role kind of contradicts that? His agent - unsolicited by Lucas - suggested a meeting with the Star Wars casting director might be a good career move. Christopher Lee, agent, and casting person all had a very nice lunch and didnā€™t talk about Star Wars or Dooku at all. (AotC was already entirely scripted at this point.) That was it. A couple weeks later, Christopher Lee got a call saying he was Dooku, if he wanted to be.Ā
This is very, very funny to me because it implies that Christopher Leeā€™s Dooku audition was ā€œhaving a nice lunchā€ and he nailed it so hard he got the job with absolutely no other follow up. It also seems to imply that Dooku was already written well before any association with Christopher Lee and any references were belatedly tacked on.
ā€”This rambling is all probably missing the INTERESTING point youā€™re actually making: that Joruus C'Baoth predates Dookuā€™s invention and that he and Dooku share significant parallels. Star Wars is all too happy to cannibalize EU storylines, reiterate, and repeat. Iā€™m sorry to say that I donā€™t know Joruus C'Baoth well enough to talk very articulately on the minute differences, aside from the wiki-level obvious similarities of them both being disillusioned white haired older human Jedi of similar generations and interests, who both were personal friends of Palpatine prior to their fall. Sidious seems to have been very interested in the flower of that Jedi generation and badly wanted one. Dookuā€™s Jedi friendgroup and peers seemed very attractive to him as a potential influences/points of attack in both Legends and Canon - Joruus C'Baoth, Dooku, Jocasta, Sifo-Dyas, and now even Rael all seemed to have some levels of exposure to him and potential influence, unwitting or not.
Is Joruus C'Baoth a proto-Dooku? To return to meta for a minute, this is something that came up a lot in the fandom between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones because when Dooku was premiered ahead of Attack of the Clones, everyone was pretty pissed off about the character, for a number of reasons including
Great, after all the athletic glamor of the duel of the fates weā€™re going back to old man battles??!
Asajj Ventressā€™s concept art was floating around and people theorized the new Sith/villain would be a badass woman
We all thought Yoda was Qui-Gonā€™s Master for some reason that I canā€™t remember and we were mad about it being this new guy with a stupid name
But most importantly, because the central narrative thing in Dookuā€™s story is a Jedi who is corrupted and becomes a Sith, and weā€™re already doing that with Anakin. And, apparently, Joruus C'Baoth.
I'm not sure that accurately answers your question, but I sure did blow off an hour of boring work on it, so truly, thank you, friend. :D <3

one of the things i was talking abt w that guy at the party was how there's nothing inherently wrong w the concept of the 11th hour star trek romances (worf/deanna, julian/ezri, seven/chakotay), but somehow the writers manage to fuck up the execution So badly they become terrible. like worf and deanna have such a compelling dynamic already established, but the writers ignore basically everything interesting about them. julian and ezri couldve utilised the implications of being two healers in the thick of a war, but instead the writers made it all about jadzia. i havent got to seven/chakotay yet in voyager but i've heard predominantly Bad Things despite the fact that there's plenty of interesting contrasts to be played upon there (im thinking about chakotay's serial jokester personality vs seven "humour is irrelevant" of nine). like i dont think any of these relationships Needed to be the out-of-nowhere disasters that they kind of were because there is actually compelling stuff there if you look hard enough

I think the fact that so many people want to label Leon/Ashley as canonically "sibling- coded" is because they feel threatened in the way they view other of Leon's relationships, they can tell Leon and Ashley have chemistry and they try to convince themselves that they have a familial bond going on (like Ellie/Joel) so that they can justify not shipping them and making people who ship it feel bad/weird.
Because nowadays so many people can't just dislike something, they have to make up a reason why it's morally wrong and unacceptable so that way they can bully people that think differently and feel like their own personal opinions are objective and right while everyone else is wrong smh. This is mostly the case with younger fans (tho a lot of people older than me does this too lmao) so that's why I don't really find it frustrating bc it's most likely they have limited real life experience. Plus they might not be that good at interpreting canon from contextual clues yet.
In my case though I think a lot of these people are actually doing the opposite tbh because to me it just shows that they recognize that Ashley's relationship with Leon is real and they can't even concede that they're friends in the canon because they know it could lead to something else if followed through in the story, they admit there's potential there subconsciously with how hard they try to make it seem otherwise with nonsense claims. It's like when insecure guys feel uncomfortable but try to seem tough by buying big trucks and having guns on them all the time lmao.
So, I've talked about this before -- about how the "sibling coded" or "problematic age gap" discourse is just modern-day fandom's way of slutshaming and engaging in casual misogyny in a societally acceptable way.
I'm pretty confident in saying that anyone in my generation who slaps "siblings" on Leon and Ashley are probably people who have another ship and have had it for a while and don't want Ashley getting in the way of it, tbh LMAO
Like.... my generation has co-opted the current generation's vernacular, but make no mistake about the kind of bitches we are. We're ship war bitches. That's all we've ever been AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE OUR WAYS NOW fjdskfh
But if we're talking about the current generation...
Media illiteracy is a big factor in this. It's no secret to anyone that the US education system took a massive shit starting in the late aughts/early 2010s, and things like critical reading skills aren't being taught in schools anymore.
I graduated high school in 2007. Two years later, I went back to visit an old English teacher to get a letter of recommendation, and he was lamenting to me that he'd just given up. It wasn't worth trying to explain the deeper themes of Beowulf to kids who didn't care, because the only thing that mattered was getting them to pass standardized tests.
So, now, without an overt, explicit declaration of love or something visually concrete like a kiss, kids literally do not have the skills to parse through a text and pick out themes and tropes and use of symbolism and imagery. They were never taught how to do it.
But there's a more culture-based thing happening here, I think. It's this fucking mess of a cocktail of internalized misogyny paired with learned helplessness, social anxiety, intense sheltering possibly exacerbated by the pandemic shutdowns, peer pressure, and internet purity culture.
I think it's pretty safe to say that fandom is predominantly made up of women and teenage girls. That was true in the 60s in Star Trek fandom, it was true in my generation, and it's still true today. And what I've seen happening today is that young women are absolutely terrified of their own sexual agency -- because the internet keeps telling them that, if you're under 18, it is wrong and bad and unacceptable for you to engage with anything even remotely sexual and how dare you express your sexuality -- and you'd better not do it not just because it's wrong and bad, but also because you are GUARANTEED TO BE PREYED UPON IF YOU DO. SEX IS DANGEROUS ALL OF THE TIME AND YOU'RE LITERALLY TOO YOUNG AND TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND ANYTHING SO DON'T TRY TO EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. Because if you're 17 and he's 18, he's a pedophile!!!!!!!!
I just.
So, we've now basically turned an entire generation of young women into the same type of young women who created the BL genre in Japan. These are women who were too afraid to explore their sexuality on their own, and it felt safer to do it with two male characters, because it was always more "okay" for men to be sexual. This is happening here in the West, now.
Slash ships have always been a thing in the West, but not to the degree that they are today. In today's fandom, if you have an M/F ship at all, you are outnumbered by at least 3:1 -- because M/M just "feels" safer for a lot of the current generation.
So, I think young women look at the Remake portrayal of Ashley Graham, and they identify with her. A lot. They're probably around her age, and her personality is very relatable to the kind of girls who play video games. Ashley's clearly introverted, but she's a fast learner who just wants to help, and she's got a good heart and a weird, kind of awkward sense of humor.
And, not only do these girls identify with Ashley, they're probably thirsty as fuck for Leon.
But that's terrifying to them.
Because they have been taught to fear their own sexual agency. The idea that an attractive, traditionally masculine, older man would be romantically or sexually interested in them is immediately categorized in their brains as wrong and bad -- and they don't want to think of Leon in that way.
So... for them, it can't be romantic. It can't be sexual. But there's clearly something there, but Leon would never abuse or prey on anyone so... that bond must be a perfectly innocent familial affection. That's what it is. That's what it has to be, because anything else forces them to face the uncomfortable reality even young women like them go on dates and have sex -- and sometimes, it's with men like Leon.
So, they thirst over Leon at a safe distance through Luis, primarily. Or they self-indulge on reader fic, because that's so much easier to write off as "just a fantasy" and not a statement on who Leon actually is as a character.
And it's just kind of sad, man. It sucks to see this happen to an entire generation of young women.
That's why I don't really get mad when I see the "siblings" shit out in the wild. I just feel sad for those people -- because they can't just say "I don't like the ship." They're so insecure and neurotic that they have to think of a reason why the ship is literally impossible to ever happen so that they don't have to be worried about it.
One day, they'll finally suck a dick for themselves and learn that it's not that serious. It's really fuckin not. Dicks are stupid, and the boys that are attached to them are even dumber.

The GID Awards: Comic Book
Our next category is a certifiable classic and the origin of many a bondage kink, I imagine: the comic book.
I know a LOT of people in the community who developed bondage kinks because they grew up reading golden and silver age comics. For most people, it was American superhero comics, namely Batman, Captain Marvel and, for DID fans, Wonder Woman.
Not me though...
I grew up reading Franco-Belgian comics and they probably hold about 75% of the blame for me developing a bondage kink. I don't know (and would be really curious to learn) why predominantly children's media between roughly 1920-1980 was SO bondage-heavy. Like, were men with bondage kinks running the media industry or was there some sort of bizarre romanticization of kidnapping (that got upended by the public revelation of the domination of serial killers and kidnappers during the 60s and 70s) or was this all a wacky coincidence?
Aaaaaaaaanyways...
This one was hard to get personal bias out of the picture simply because I just don't read American comics that don't have anything to do with Star Wars. That being said, I did end up choosing one just because, how could I not?! My choice is:
Shazam/Captain Marvel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I'm cheating a bit with this one because I've never done an entry on it, though I can justify that as comics being difficult to make entries for owed to how many of them there are and just how confusing they are to categorize. And how can I not choose this one with the impact it's had on GID?
Any character who activates their superpowers through speaking is just asking to get gagged over and over and over. And that's exactly what happened to Billy Batson. While they've definitely toned it down over time (likely due to changing attitudes around having underage characters in distress like this), back in the early days, the guy couldn't go a few issues without getting bound and gagged.
Every source of conflict in his early days seemed to be him getting captured and then finding some clever way to get his gag off. Hilt of a sword, flaming piece of wood, hook in the wall, you name it.
Although there's definitely been a reduction of scenes overtime, you do still see the modern Shazam suffering similar fates, especially in the Injustice comic and the Friends Like These comic, so it's nice to see his legacy being upheld.
So for its contributions to GID, I have chosen Captain Marvel as the winner for best GID comic!
Honourable Mentions
Some other comics I considered, but ultimately did not choose for this award:
Suske en Wiske (for directly influencing my bondage kink and sheer volume of scenes)
Attack on Titan Manga (for having a great scene that didn't make it into the anime)

Reflections: Cillian Murphyā€™s Limited Edition
Season 3, episode 6
āœØI think Iā€™m sorta catching up šŸ˜ŠāœØ
ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
*I am a music prof (predominantly classical vocalist), and I LOVE listening to Cillianā€™s music choices! That being said, sometimes I wonā€™t like a song simply because of a vocalist (itā€™s a professional hazard - sorry!) šŸ‘©ā€šŸ«
** The following are my own observations/opinions. We may not agree, and thatā€™s ok! Thatā€™s what makes music fun! šŸ˜Š
*** I wouldnā€™t say Iā€™m well-versed in Cillianā€™s music preferences, but I do enjoy them (for the most part). I always wind up adding to my own playlists after listening to Cillianā€™s recommendations.
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
Let the show begin!
šŸŽµSet 1 (Fading Stars II - Come And Play In The Milky Night)
Fading Stars II: sounds like film music. It uses the same motif over and over again, slowly filling out the texture
Come And Play In The Milky Night: this reminds me of 2010s pop music. Itā€™s got that wistfulness that I associate with that decade! (Isnā€™t it horrifying to be talking about the 2010s as ā€œoldā€? I just hurt my own feelings!)
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Grand isnā€™t as good as tippety top. Noted.
Coltrane! ā¤ļø
Wow! The last song is from the ā€˜90s!
ā€œSitting in cars that are movingā€
ā€œScintillating observationsā€
šŸŽµSet 2 (Over My Shoulder - Glass, Concrete & Stone)
Over My Shoulder: I am having so much fun with this one! šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜† I love the story of this song as well.
The Beggar: again, a very fun song! But so different from the other in this set. Rhythms are interesting.
Glass, Concrete & Stone: itā€™s cool that there are 3 predominant instruments, like the 3 materials mentioned in the title. Melody is strange and unexpected. I like it!
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Cillian just wants a twin, specifically David Byrne. šŸ˜‚
Every track on the album is in the same key, and itā€™s heard above the drone. I am intrigued.
šŸŽµSet 3 (Ta Douleur - Hard-boiled Babe)
Ta Douleur: this is so urban, but Iā€™ll be honest - some of the sound effects sound *ahem* rude? šŸ˜… not offensive, just like someone ate something that didnā€™t agree šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ and Iā€™m afraid Iā€™m not mature enough to move past that. šŸ’Ø
Hard-boiled Babe: I didnā€™t expect the harmonica!
These French ā€œgirl popā€ songs are a genre I didnā€™t expect him to be into! Goes to show you canā€™t pin this guyā€™s musical tastes down.
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Heā€™s forever better at French than me
šŸŽµSet 4 (War Zone - Ethiopian Rock)
War Zone: another song featuring ā€œsound effectsā€ - I like how the war sounds get louder and louder, but also how the melody is just so ā€œvacation vibeā€. Good commentary!
Ethiopian Rock: melody is in the bass line. The echo is fun. It feels like a reinterpretation of protest rock, but I canā€™t explain why other than vague similarities.
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Old Jamaican music! Cool!
šŸŽµSet 5 (Hill & Gully Ride - Asa Branca)
Hill & Gully Ride: this is so fun! Had I not been told itā€™s Jamaican, I wouldā€™ve assumed Puerto Rico or Cuba. It reminds me of those dance rhythms that came to NYC in the ā€˜40s and ā€˜50s.
Ma Blonde Est Partie: this sounds so early country/country blues. Aka OLD American styles. And I find this amazing. This might honestly be my favorite song for this episode! I love the instrument mix (in ways it sounds Appalachian?), and the vocals are so fitting here!
Asa Branca: gorgeous! šŸ˜ itā€™s got a little of everything to offer! The style keeps jumping around!
āœØfavorite setāœØ
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Cajun! Now that makes sense why Iā€™m hearing so many Appalachian sounds!
And a series about music in the US. Iā€™m not going crazy for hearing all that! Phew! šŸ˜…
Ask a reasonable question - your question may not be reasonable or even adequately answered! But itā€™s not Brian Cox
Him trying to describe emojis is precious
ā€œA mystery wrapped inside an anorak wrapped inside an enigmaā€
More Yorkshire Man
šŸŽµSet 6 (See the Sky About to Rain - Big Pharma)
See the Sky About to Rain: Neil is a specific voice. Itā€™s always jarring at the beginning, but then I settle in and can enjoy his vocals.
Your Name Is Snake Anthony: whoa! Talk about jarring - that segue was shocking! Quite atmospheric, and in some places the background is atonal or polytonal (no key or multiple keys).
Paralysed: so my autocorrect doesnā€™t like the way the title is spelled šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ bless itā€™s American little heart. I suppose the bass line that plays the ā€œshort longā€ motif over and over is representing your heart beat. It also repeats notes over and over again, like itā€™s possibly paralyzed.
Big Pharma: interesting rhythms/punctuations. I donā€™t love it, but it definitely sticks with you. Will be honest, the ā€œsniffingā€ sounds at the beginning was a little gross. Idk what itā€™s supposed to be, but it sounds like someoneā€™s got a stuffy nose šŸ¤§
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Ah yes, the exclusive
A poetry reading!
šŸŽµSet 7 (Geronimo Blues - Condition of Us)
Geronimo Blues: a pretty song (which I know is weird since the lyrics are pretty critical)! And Kae is good at this, but it always takes me a second to understand the lyrics. I guess my brain has a buffer with this accent šŸ˜…
Condition of Us: again- such a strong contrast! I love the vocals here! ā¤ļø Iā€™m having fun!
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
I canā€™t even spell the verb for getting goosebumps. Dude. What even?! šŸ˜‚
šŸŽµSet 8 (I Walk on Guilded Splinters)
The archive footage - I have concerns about his speaking vocal quality.
I Walk On Guilded Splinters: honestly, this sounds like healthier vocal production than what I just heard. Yes - thereā€™s a way to give a raspy sound without hurting yourself. ANYWAY. This is a cool song! I love the echos. šŸ˜Ž
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Correct. No intro needed for Bill Withers
šŸŽµSet 9 (Kissing My Love - Inside Straight)
Kissing My Love: šŸ’ƒšŸ’ƒšŸ˜šŸ˜ ooh these vocals! The funk! The groove!
Inside Straight: gimme that jazz! šŸ˜Ž and can we just talk about the subtle internal harmony changes in the piano chords? Likeā€¦ that shouldnā€™t be that cool. BUT IT IS. And everything about this is fire! šŸ”„ although, the raspberry scat line was a littleā€¦ special. Impressive, but ā€¦ yeah. šŸ˜…
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Miles played with everyone! He pioneered so many jazz styles itā€™s insane!
ā€œPugilistic kind of soundā€
ā€œHe played with the Wombles!ā€
šŸŽµSet 10 (Video Life)
Video Life: just getting flashbacks to the VHS era. šŸ˜…
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Lots of pop
ā€œOne man Beatlesā€ - I am intrigued!
šŸŽµSet 11 (Somebody Made for Me - Every Night)
Somebody Made for Me: OMG HE DOES SOUND JUST LIKE PAUL MCCARTNEY!! šŸ™€šŸ™€šŸ™€šŸ™€šŸ™€šŸ™€ even the scoring sounds like Paul! Likeā€¦ šŸ¤Æ
Every Night: I AM SINGING ALONG WITH A PAUL COVER AND JUST LIVING MY BEST LIFE šŸ’ƒšŸ˜ŽšŸ˜†
šŸŽ¤Talking Break
You are correct, Cillian. All roads lead to the Beatles!
šŸŽµSet 12 (Single Pigeon)
Single Pigeon: ITā€™S PAUL!!!! šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ šŸ™Œ the vocal line is kinda all over the place (awkward?) and that reminds me of pigeons just wandering around šŸ˜‚
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
ā€œDoesnā€™t outstay its welcomeā€
šŸŽµSet 13 (I Want You to Love Me - She Walks In Beauty)
I Want You to Love Me: I like the driving, powerful left hand bass in the piano against the right hand melody. And the vocal drone! Thatā€™s not heard often! The drone isnā€™t even always in the ā€œrightā€ key as sheā€™s going through, so thatā€™s also a fun quirk!
Must Be Tears: I love the ā€œold schoolā€ production aesthetics!
She Walks In Beauty: gorgeous! So ethereal, which is what I get from the title alone. Itā€™s hard to make synth and electronic instruments not sound cheesy, so I really like this. And more poetry!
šŸŽ¤Talking Break:
Byron!
No itā€™s over already???
Yay covers! And jazz!
Coltrane!!! Finally.
ā€œMind yourselvesā€
šŸŽµSet 14 (Wonderful World - Nature Boy)
Wonderful World: I do like the jazz, but Iā€™m not enjoying the vocals that much. Strings are an interesting addition, though!
All I Need: more layering effects. I like this a lot! Itā€™s got a swanky nightclub vibe to it. The piano solo is so satisfying.
Nature Boy: yes! šŸ˜Ž the bebop is popping! I loooooove bebop/hard bop so much. Itā€™s INSANE and I have so much respect for the art form. This is a great way to end the show!
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
Thanks so much for reading! And dare I say it, Iā€™m proud of myself for catching up - I think Iā€™m only a week and a half late with this one! Woohoo! šŸ˜‚

Article: 'Jennifer Hale and David Hayter Talk Morality-Based Dialogue in Games Like Mass Effect, SWTOR'
Jennifer Hale and David Hayter chat with Game Rant about how they approached voice roles in games like Mass Effect and Star Wars: The Old Republic. In anticipation of the PSVR2 exclusiveĀ Synapse, Game Rant spoke with actorsĀ Jennifer Hale and David Hayter, who both play rolesĀ in the upcoming title. They spent some time during the interview discussing how they approached voicing characters in games that feature branching dialogue trees with morality systems. Jennifer Hale memorably portrayed the female Commander Shepard inĀ Mass EffectĀ as well as the female Trooper inĀ Star Wars: The Old Republic, whereas David Hayter brought life to the male Jedi Knight inĀ Star Wars: The Old Republic. Jennifer Hale Sees Mass Effect's Paragon And Renegade Shepard As The Same Person Mass EffectĀ is one of the most well-regarded RPGs in recent memory largely due to its dialogue and morality system that allows players to express themselves in a way that is impactful to both the story andĀ Commander Shepard's interpersonal relationships. Dialogue choices are often split between the heroic and virtuous Paragon and the sardonic, occasionally ruthless Renegade. Jennifer Hale spoke about how she appreciates the character's ability to shift between these attitudes in a relatable way. "To everyone, I say ā€œLook in the mirror.ā€ Sometimes you get out of bed, and you're in a great mood. Other days, you get out of bed and youā€™re like ā€œDon't talk to me for a couple hours, leave me alone,ā€ but you're still the same person. You can get out of bed as one person and something can happen, and in a nanosecond, you're the other person. And so playing a character like that ā€“ It's the same character. They're just hopping from mood to mood and circumstance to circumstance. The throughline is there and it's very definite. You're not a wholly different character from line to line, it's just a different moment, and how you respond to it is with maybe tighter governors or looser governors." Hale's approach to Shepard's role is so successful because the "good" and "bad" options don't feel like completely different characters. One of the most highly recommended ways toĀ play through theĀ MassĀ EffectĀ trilogyĀ is by taking a "Paragade" approach in which players go for a mix of both, because Shepard, like any person, might not always be feeling optimistic or cynical. A predominantly Renegade Shepard may still choose to hug and comfort Tali during an emotional moment (a Paragon choice) and it doesn't at all feel inconsistent. David Hayter Views Star Wars: The Old Republic's Dialogue Choices As Different Journeys InĀ Star Wars: The Old Republic, the moral extremes are somewhat more pronounced in the dialogue choices as players lean toward either the Light Side or the Dark Side of the Force. EvenĀ the Jedi Knight can be outright evilĀ if the player chooses, which leads David Hayter to view these paths as essentially different journeys to take for the character. I almost use the same voice for all of them, but I kind of feel like they're different personalities. One of them is kind of a Han Solo, while the Light Side responses are heroic, but kind of bland ā€“ he'll never deviate from ā€œMay the Force be with You,ā€ that sort of thing. The cynical guy is just like, ā€œWhat is wrong with you?ā€ which is so much more fun. The moments where I'm full-on Dark Side and I'm like, ā€œI am going to destroy you!ā€ is arguably more fun to do. I try to deliver it all through the same guy's vocal cords, but they are different. They're having different journeys, and some of them are more funny and exasperating than others. Naturally, Hayter found that it was more fun toĀ embrace the Dark SideĀ while acting, if only because the Light-Sided Jedi Knight is a tad bland due to the Jedi Order's insistence on emotional detachment. Either way, the presence of branching dialogue enables players to embark on the journey of their choice and explore the full range of David Hayter and Jennifer Hale's exceptional acting abilities upon repeat playthroughs.

I just want to introduce myself, Iā€™m Kaytee - Iā€™m brand new to Tumblr šŸ‘‹
Iā€™m a BPD princess/goblin (depending on the day) who has always been part of fandoms and find it easy to become hyperfixated on things - normally hot old men. However, I havenā€™t expressed it online for a few years due to being in the most beautiful and intense relationship Iā€™ve ever had. Unfortunately though, due to some truly awful circumstances weā€™re unable to see each other a lot right now - despite still being very much in love - so, to completely distract myself, Iā€™m back on tumblr after many years to both fangirl and share my writing šŸ„°
Mainly keeping this page Fallout/ghoul related but I also love Star Wars, Westworld, Marvel, DC, My Hero Academia, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The US Office, Supernatural and probably loads more which I canā€™t remember right now lol.
I write fanfiction and Iā€™d love it if you commented with feedback as it helps my praise kink - or if not, my degradation kink haha šŸ˜ nah, but feedback is greatly appreciated - I love to improve. I also stream on Twitch at least once a week (again, itā€™s 99% various Fallout games) so if you have Twitch and want to follow me, Iā€™d hugely appreciate it twitch.tv/infinitywhre ā¤ļø
Thanks for having me and I canā€™t get over how talented you all are - also itā€™s well nice to be in a space which seems predominantly very feminine. All of my real life friends are guys and donā€™t understand my incessant screaming about Hancock or Coop šŸ˜‚

Iā€™ve decided to start ranking Star Wars characters on the Kinsey Scaleā€¦
Iā€™m going to start with Ahsoka Tano.
Ahsoka is a 5 (which is Predominantly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual) on the Kinsey Scale.
Iā€™m ranking her this way because Ahsoka has chemistry with every woman she shares the screen with. She just does. Holy shit. Iā€™ve got receipts all over my blog.
It was apparent to me that her and Barriss had something going on. The looks, the energy, the angst, the heartbreakā€¦ There is no heterosexual explanation for the Barriss and Ahsoka thing. Ahsoka rebounded from Barriss with Trace Martez in the walkabout arc. They go on a date. Theyā€™re clearly flirting throughout the story. Rafa Martez gives Ahsoka the shovel talk. Itā€™s clearly coded. You also cannot convince me that she and Bo-Katan didnā€™t have something going on during the Siege of Mandalore, and may still. I mean, Bo does have Ahsoka on Life 360 or Find My Friends. Never mind Kaeden Larte from the novel (or whatever white Kaedenā€™s name is from Tales of the Jedi)ā€¦ none of this screams ā€œstraightā€ to me. At all.
She did have that stupid bullshit moment with Lux Bonteri, so sheā€™s definitely not a pure 6 (though, they never really dated or actually got together as it was just Filoni ā€œexperimenting a little bitā€ which turned out to be an epic, abject failure). All the other relationships that she has with men in canon feel familial in nature to me (these include Anakin, Rex, Ezra, Kanan and Obi-Wan).
IF Ahsoka ends up with a guy, itā€™ll strictly be because we live in a heteronormative society that likes to push heteronormativity for sake of pushing it for whatever reason (and they say that it is the LGBTQ community that has some stupid ā€œagendaā€ā€¦ Yeah. Try again.).

Can I know more about Ajax's upbringing and how he fits into the world of Star wars? He's very cool!
not 100% sure on what upbringing means in this context but I can certainly try!
Ajax doesn't have much of a memory before they crashed on Kamino, mostly bits and pieces of how they escaped the starship they were on shortly before it was blown apart. so their upbringing was predominantly their training and brief time on the frontlines. that was about as much preparation they could get before going AWOL and having to rapidly learn about living in the rest of the galaxy.
they're not meant to be a main character, they're very much a returning support. a little bit like Hondo Ohnaka, but in the case of The Bad Batch arc they do stick around with the main characters a lot more. they're just supposed to be a funky lil guy who helps provide a new perspective on what the Force is capable of doing and interacting with the galaxy as a whole.

What Is A Character?
This is not writing advice. This is a highly truncated version of a manifesto. I am correct. I have solved the mystery of a hundred Tumblr fights, thousand comic book forum threads lasting for three hundred pages. I'm just right. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
A while back somebody mentioned that I had a pretty unique take on Tim Drake, a comic book character with a thousand characterizations. I ended up talking a little bit about ā€˜how to write a comic book characterā€™, and how amorphous the definition of a character really is. Or, really, how ill-defined the ontology of a 'characterization' is. After rereading a lot of Batman comics in preparation for The Batman movie, and this deeply unfortunate Moon Knight thing, Iā€™d like to revisit it. I am speaking predominantly in terms of comic books, since theyā€™re definitely the easiest example for this, but you could apply this whole bag to a lot of different situations (Star Wars is almost as bad as comics) and maybe characterization as a whole. Nobody asked for this, but this is my blog and opinions were made to be heard (this is 90% of my problem). I swear I will try to make this as short as possible while still arguing my point, but my point will need to be argued.
The central question is this: what is a true, real character? The conclusion I eventually reach in this essay is will sound like bullshit but you will understand that I am correct. Rest under the cut.
The absolute inherent nature of any media that lasts for a stupid long time, has a stupid amount of different creators and creative teams, and passes between different owners and mediums like hot potatoes, is that it will be contradictory. Even without the insane continuity issues of Star Wars, comic book writer Michael will outright retcon Henryā€™s backstory for Wonder Girl because Michael fucking hates Henry. James fucked Henryā€™s wife so Henry will write in a character that James created and then murder them gruesomely. Geoff Johns is there. All of this means that everybody, from the execs to the creators to the fan content creators to the fanbase, ultimately do have decide who Batman/Obi-Wan/Sherlock Holmes ā€˜really isā€™. This is important ā€“ it decides the future of a character.
Ā Itā€™s not the origin story of the character. Itā€™s not decided by who created the character (Otherwise everybody here would love Miles Morales for who Bendis wrote him as, instead of himself in ITSV ā€“ and they really donā€™t). I think the answer to this question is determined by consensus from every group I just listed. Itā€™s what people, basically, agree on. Which means that a characterā€™s true character is the character that everybody thinks they are.
Point One: The Power of the Disney
The first way this can be determined is, basically, by their most popular incarnation. I say Hawkeye and you think of Fraction/Aja Hawkeye. I say Tony Stark and you think MCU. I say Sherlock Holmes and you think of the book Holmes if youā€™re embittered by the BBC version and you live spitefully and you think the BBC version if you arenā€™t. I say Vic Sage as the Question and you think of the JLU version, which comes from the Denny Oā€™Neil 1980s version, which has nothing to do with the characterā€™s origins as a shitty objectivist mouthpiece. The Question, as a character, just is not a Randian, even if he was created that way. Heā€™s a quirky conspiracy theorist. Thatā€™s who he is, because thatā€™s the guy who pops into your head. Youā€™d argue with me if I said he was a Randist. The people reading this who actually know the Question is are probably shocked by the Randist thing.
This can apply by transitive property too ā€“ I say Teen Titans and you think of the baller 2005 cartoon, right? That was based off the Wolfman/Perez 1980s TT. I wouldnā€™t call 2005 TT the ā€˜realā€™ TT, Iā€™d call Wolfman/Perez the real TT ā€“ because it created the 2005 one, and was also hugely influential in creating a soapy teen drama comic book scene. Itā€™s marked by influence. Nobody gave a shit about Thor before MCU Thor, so heā€™s Thor now ā€“ how influential was 1970s Journey into Mystery?
So the first idea is that the ā€˜real characterā€™ of a comic character can change through runs or mass media becoming very prominent and making that characterization the most prominent in peopleā€™s minds. The second idea is that this change can happen more gradually through a cultural or reception-based shift.
Point Two: Drift Compatibility
Harley Quinn has changed a lot as a character from Batman: The Animated Series. She had a few interesting quirks, but she was really 100% a bad guy. I can put maybe the genesis of her more modern understanding in the Injustice comic, which presented basically a more interesting and intelligent and well-rounded feminist Harley. The fan reception was positive, the creators wrote that kind of Harley more and more, the fanbase reacted positively, the fanbase reacted negatively to Suicide Squad until she was rewritten into the BOP version, and through fan reception and gradual shift we get the #feminist we have today.
You can also say very much the same about Deadpool. I grew up on the 90s Deadpool and Deadpool & Cable, and the drift into the modern guy has actually been pretty insane for reasons too long to list here (he tortured Blind Al?). Reception to the Deadpool youā€™re thinking of was just better, and the Deadpool movie basically cemented that idea of Deadpool in popular consciousness.
Sometimes this change happens very suddenly, like with Fraction/Aja's Hawkeye, but sometimes it is a result of trial and error decided by fan reception and the zeitgeist of the times and the comic book tone. 90s Deadpool does not fit in '20s comics. BTAS Harley Quinn would receive some boos for being defined by her abusive boyfriend. These things change with culture, comic book fads & zeitgeists, and fans liking a character so much in one way that the creators wire them more and more that way.
So thatā€™s the second idea: that the drift can happen within books through fan reception, and is eventually reflected in mass media and cements the personality until we cycle back into the first idea.
Point Three: The Inmates Run The Asylum
The third idea is a really logical extension of this: that the fandom and fanon version of the characters can grow to eclipse any characterization from 1) or 2), and that when this fan interpretation of a character becomes so rampant it becomes the new ā€˜consensusā€™ of the character. Batman can defeat anyone with enough prep time. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are unproblematic girlbosses. Spider-Gwen became so popular and such a big character solely through her pretty dope design that got super popular and went viral on the internet. If you cut out the middle man of the mass media and canon comics, then you have the fandom creations.
This drift is making its way into the mainstream. I won't talk here about fandomization of media, but the fanon characterizations and tropes are starting to enter Point #2 territory: that is, creators are realizing that the fandom plots and tropes are what people want, and they're creeping into the mainstream. The Webtoon Wayne Family Adventures is the greatest example of this, anywhere. That Webtoon is a million fanfics brought to life, and it's helping cement those fanfic dynamics and characterizations into 'the real Batfam' - to the point where the traditional comics Batfam is being dismissed as 'not real'.
Memes are intensely powerful, here! Every comic fan from around ten years ago knew the Squirrel Girl can defeat everybody meme. Now she has a comic and sheā€™s pretty famous, through sheer memery. Sometimes a ā€˜true characterā€™ can be derived solely from their meme status, if there is truly nothing better or nothing else to the character. Sometimes meme status can give them a book, which fleshes them out and makes a real character out of it. Virality is a huge force, and when a character goes viral then businesses jump on it and recreate what people liked about it as quickly as possible - and, sometimes, as influentially as possible.
Part Five: If You Agreed With My Other Points You Have To Admit That I Am Correct
Ā So, logically. When you ask the question ā€˜whatā€™s Moon Knightā€™s real characterization before the MCU show, which is pretty clearly a huge deviation from the comics and his comic self?ā€™...and if you are a Moon Knight fan I'm very sorry about this...you're valid, alla youse are valid...
You see that nobody really gives a shit about Moon Knight. He has never had an influential run. Barely anybody had heard of him before the show. Nobody can list a single thing about the guy. Nobodyā€™s read a single Moon Knight comic. The only panel from Moon Knight that Iā€™m willing to bet the vast majority of this website has seen, that everybody thinks is real, that is 100% of what they know about Moon Knight, is this joke meme panel. That is Photoshopped. (If you didnā€™t know itā€™s Photoshopped, now you do ā€“ the other joke Moon Knight Panels youā€™ve seen are also photoshopped). This is not a real image from the comics. However, taking into account everything else I've said...
Tumblr media
This meme Photoshop one panel image of Moon Knight is the definitive, true, actual comics Moon Knight goodbye everybody Iā€™m right and nobody can change my mind.
