After reading your post about Faye, I almost got a sense of deja-vu because I also had a similar rant about it.

Like that woman has been publicly out for a few years, privately even more (imo it was probably an open secret before she publicity came out). And no matter how "open" Thailand is for lgbtq ppl it's always a risk to come out, especially if you are already in a public light.

It's not Faye's, Yoko's, or 9star's problem that some people got "tricked" by other gl couple, and now in their opinion everyone is being fake and just doing it for "money."  And no matter how open and transparent any of them are (9star/fayeyoko), nothing is good enough for those people. Why I like them/why I don’t: i know im like. THE Aporia girlie but make no mistake Z-one is also up there. he also makes me frothing rabid dogmouth crazy. HE'S A GREAT VILLAIN AND A GREAT CHARACTER AND PEOPLE HAVE SOME REALLY BAD TAKES ABOUT HIM BUT I'LL STILL BE HERE WITH MY SWORD AND SHIELD. FOREVER. like. he is just truly one of the most awful and unsettling and endlessly fascinating yugioh characters and each day im am so glad he's not just Yusei From The Future. he is Just Some Guy who thought he alone could save the world but Turning Himself Into The Protagonist Not Figuratively But Literally and then developed an absolutely insane god complex when that didn't work out. He condemned his closest friends to his own agonizing loneliness and then got all of them killed one way or another. He's a perfect "villain who thinks theyre doing the right thing" and his 'right thing' is DROPPING A DIVINE CITY ON ANOTHER CITY, KILLING EVERYONE. Z-one is petty and selfish and arrogant and fucking MEAN and i love him so fucking much. my favorite yugioh Big Bad by leaps and bounds. im so sad forever that his primary episodes never got dubbed. one day i'll write my character analysis of him. grandpa fucking suuuuuucks

I hate how the darkskinned indigenous-coded man with more "nonwhite" features is written with no characterization other than being violent and abusive while the more light-skinned native man with light hair is shown as gentle and understanding. The scene where the indigenous women are shown staring in awe at Shuna drawing a bow feels particularly bad, I feel like it promotes the idea of white women being the ones who can introduce change and "save" women of color.

I got some hate on the elfquest forum for posting my criticism, ppl were telling me my opinions are "ill-conceived" and "dont like dont read".

This was sent November 2023, and I'm replying now, because I just remembered.. I wrote a response and then drafted it for all of eternity? I am truly a paragon of communication.

But yeah, everything about Shuna's books and plots is just shit. I was a bit more mealy-mouthed about this last year, but: the Pini's love their blonde, blue-eyed saviours, and the Sun Villagers' position as a rare exception feels largely like they were just trying to make their product stand out among other comics of the time. Once it did, the job was done, and they got to lean back into the white saviour shit. Antagonists look more ethnic, protagonists look more white (or will gradually shift to looking more white over time).

I'd add more analysis but you caught it basically on the nose. Shuna's entire narrative is not great, and it is an example of why having an editor to rein in creatives is generally a good idea. Most people need someone who is not invested in your story or your characters to produce objective criticism, because that editor is a hell of a lot closer to how your readers will perceive your work. I don't think the Pini's think of any of their writing preferences as racist, nor do they really care if they are - they are in their mid 70's. But it might have been a different story back in the 90's or 2000's.

Or might not have! Who knows?

Also, yeah, that's the Elfquest forums for you. The Father Tree Holt one born after the closure of the original might be better, but I doubt it - I know I joined when it began and was not impressed. It's a lot of the same people from the official forums, and subsequently, it's largely just a continuation of the same problems. The problem with older fandoms tends to be people largely wailing 'don't like, don't read' when it comes to criticising works. Which I almost understand, when you've been reading a series for the last forty five fucking years: for some people, that level of investment will come with a certain amount of defensiveness. I do not have that with media, but I can understand where it comes from.

But it seems very silly to me. Not everyone likes analysing media, and that's perfectly fine! Forums are great for that conflict, because instead of trying to shut down a discussion, you can just simply not click the thread. You don't have a feed that'll try to shove shit at you, you can literally just not click the fucking thread.

I still side-eye the fact I made a thread on the original forums discussing the biomes of Abode as a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed teenie, full swing into my obsessive EQ stage, and was promptly told by multiple people that I was overthinking it, I shouldn't bother, and it was silly to focus on shit like on the feasibility of biomes / speculate on how the biome could've ended up in the canon way over how it would appear irl. But that was the response to almost any variety of genuine analysis of the material on the forum, tbh, even down to things as relatively easy as "is Strongbow an asshole?", or "how long do the wolves actually live for?", or "do you guys think that the narrative has a weird take on consent?". I'm still slightly salty over that years later, obviously, haha, so not surprised that "but WHY are you trying to engage with the material instead of just fawning over it?" mentality carried over to the new forum.

What do Devil's Bells look like?

Oh boy I don't have a hyperspecific description where I could give you pictures of people who look like them, but I have a vague idea as of now

Liz: straight layered long golden blonde hair with bangs (once dyed the tips pink in a motel sink), rosy skin, the shortest in the band (about 5'4"), medium to chubby with curves, dresses like an 80s glam rocker with fringed jackets, leopard pants etc

Jack: messy shoulder-length black dyed hair with light brown roots growing out but he always re-dyes them before they're too visible, very pale skin, a bit taller than Liz, quite skinny, usually wears band shirts and ripped jeans

Phil: wavy strawberry blonde hair, fair olive skin, the tall lanky guy in the band (slightly below 6'3"), rather thin but still has muscle from his work as a drummer, wears loose half unbuttoned shirts with the sleeves rolled up

Antonio: long curly dark brown hair, tan skin, tall and kinda brawny but a little shorter than Phil, some muscle but not too much, classic outfit is shirtless with a vest or graphic tees

Does anyone call Jack JD?

They all called him JD at some point, but unlike with most other things, Liz is the only one not allowed to call him that. He's completely fine with the other guys because it's "a bro nickname, not a pet name" and even if they're not exclusive, he wants to keep some sort of special treatment with her and call each other pet names

How does JD feel about being the youngest in the band?

Even if his bandmates treat him like the band baby sometimes, they only do it ironically (except Liz, she takes care of him as much as she can when needed). They see him as an equal, although, being the eldest, Antonio does try to have some kind of a not exactly parental role but be someone to give advice when Jack asks for it and keeps an eye on him if necessary. He sometimes feels a bit weird about being the youngest, but overall he doesn't really care because he's also an adult, just a few years younger than the rest and he's never left out by any of them

What's Liz's family life like?

It's actually not bad! The only one who has serious problems with his family is Jack and to some extent Phil, but it's more of an indifferent relationship than a feud. Liz's relationship with her father is complicated since he had a bunch of abusive or manipulative moments while other times he was indifferent and just ignored the fact she existed and other times he was friendly but never as close as she and her mother are. Her mom used to be overly careful when she was younger, but when she turned 18 she let loose a bit and trusted her enough to not get into trouble. She has a good relationship with her four years older sister and attended her first concerts with her. Both her parents weren't too fond of her travelling on her own because they considered her too young, but she promised to come back and start working after a six month break (which she obviously broke later on). The moment she called to tell them she had formed a band, they were sceptical and still are when they have some small local successes, but eventually they came to terms with it because she does what she's always wanted to do, she found really good friends in her bandmates and she visits her family regularly

What do they all prefer to drink?

Jack loves whiskey (he literally named himself after it c'mon), Liz likes gin, Phil drinks pretty much anything but mostly wine, Antonio usually takes some alcohol free drink like cola or energy drinks or even a non-alcoholic beer

Who has the grossest pizza order?

Jack unironically eats pineapple on pizza, which makes Antonio want to strangle him every time so they eventually just decide to get margherita for everyone or eat something completely else (I'll admit I have eaten pineapple on pizza before and enjoyed it)

What are all of their pizza orders?

Liz: tonno e cipolla; Jack: Hawaiian pizza; Phil: quattro formaggi; Antonio: pizza spinaci

What are their stage shows like?

They don't have bombastic stage shows yet since the only gigs they get are at small clubs, but they do try to entertain the audience as much as they can with the means available. Liz usually does something with her bandmates like mic sharing with Jack, resting her arm on Antonio's shoulder, doing the presenting pose at Phil during drum solos etc. She also gets on her knees and crawls on the floor sometimes, eye fucks and winks at certain people because that's one of the best ways to get the attention of the audience. And of course they throw their picks into the crowd (but not drumsticks since they're too broke to give everything away) and hang out at the club afterwards to chat and sometimes even sign stuff when people approach them and want to be "among the first to have met Devil's Bells"

Ill choose two for this, a beyblade one and a nonbeyblade one. I actually dont do many multichapters for beyblade but try to do them more for other fandoms.

One of my newer but favorite wips is a madokaru shogun steel fic. Ive talked a bit about it on discord, but it basically is me trying to merge my headcanons with shogun steel canon and ask what happens then. That means that it tries to explain where hikaru was during shogun steel if she wasnt a member of the wbba. Its a love story between them, skipping around in time to canon/early postcanon with them getting closer, and then hikarus return post shogun steel. Its a pretty chill fic idea actually, but lets me talk about these characters still growing and trying new things and falling in love even after falling apart. Also blader hikaru!!! Some ideas from this fic are impacting how i think about my visual novel too

And then for other wip... god i have so many. I'll go with my 4+1 Olruggio bonding with his kids for Witch Hat Atelier. Recently got really into the series (jts so good guys literally a perfect series) and I wanted to highlight some moments between Olruggio and the apprentices. The first chapter is posted and theyre all... really long chapters. But i know what i want to do for each! The problem with this fic is just keeping it from getting too technical or boring. I tend to not plan before i write, just going in with a vague idea. It works for me, but sometimes i spend too much time on a scene that means nothing, and i have to remember to cut it out to preserve the pacing. But right now i have Tetias chapter finished, which actually was surprisingly easy to write. I feel like shed take after Olruggio a lot and love making contraptions, and i hope that shown through in the chapter. Now im on Agotts chapter, and Im trying to make it a bit more angsty to fit Agott while still just including some good bonding. Biggest struggle will 100% be cocos chapter. Ill let you know Agotts chapter takes place in... volume 3? Richehs in volume 5? And Olruggios chapter deals with a very special chapter

guys...i am cooking up a STORM 😼 (but im getting stuck again </3)

so the other night i was laying in bed and bam i suddenly remembered a piece of writing i made aggggesss ago. literally i think i started it last year or smth. like everything else ive ever written, it was just an unfinished, long-lost short story that would never see the light of day, until i suddenly recalled it randomly! since that night (i think like 3 days ago or smth) thats all ive been focussing on, and for once, im actually so proud of my work and what ive written.

and get this, ive been working on it so consistently that ive actually gotten so close to finishing it. im literally THISSS CLOOSEEE!!! to finnishing it. well kind of, but im definitely almost done, and i wanna finish it so bad, but i thin the writers block is hitting me, and it always finds the worst moments to hit u. its so annoying. i will not be able to sleep and live properly until i for once finish what ive started, so if i dont find a way to get this stupid short story done any time soon, i will lose my mind. and its not that i dont have any ideas--i do, i pretty much know what i want to happen next, but yk sometimes when u have an idea but just dont knnow how to translate it from an idea in ur brain into words onto paper? yeah. thats whats going on w me rn. its the actual worst 😿

and rq, another problem is that sometimes i feel like im rewriting/reusing a lot of the same words and things....idk if that makes sense, but i feel like i run out of words and just get kind of repetitive. word hippo (a thesaurus) is literaelly my best friend but i still have trouble finding good words </3 i tihnk im just really picky or dont know if a word will sound right in the sentence?? idk if that makes sense

im supposed to be working on the little scenario/short story/piece of writing, whatever u wanna call it rn, before i go to sleep, but im still kind of just drawing a blank and its the worst! im kinda feeling a little confident since im pretty happy with what ive came up with for this story, so i MIIIGHTTT post it on here, but to sumarise it, its basically a confession scene between my oc and her love interest. theyre super cute, like for once i came up with a really sweet and healthy ship/couple/whatever :3 (it sucks tho bc theyre kind of doomed by the narrative, they only get to be bf/gf for one month before my oc needs to move away to a new town and ditch her bf >:3) so yeah i love them! and so help me god if i dont get this finished i will lose it

I’m still obsessed with ppl being like “[insert genuinely important holiday/protest/thing] happened and not one cc has said anything about it?” ….imagine for a moment. A man who works at an office building, one of the sad and cramped ones that no one wants to ever be in, and he’s trying his best to make a living in this workspace. And someone sees him working his little cubicle job, making on average 10 dollars an hour, crying himself to sleep, and keeping peoples taxes in order, and says: “hey! This guy hasn’t said anything about gay people and how much he loves them!! He should use his platform to spread awareness about gay people!” Knowing FULL WELL that this guy works an office job.

That’s kind of how I see cc’s and like. The whole thing awhile back with Tommy backing away from Twitter and going to therapy because people were screaming at him 24/7 to bring light to whatever issue there was and it was literally ruining his mental health etc etc. like. Bro that’s his Job. Streaming is his fucking job, like working in a cubicle or being like a chef or something. Imagine DEMANDING the barista at Starbucks to talk about an issue that they have no hand in and are not connected to in any way. No family connections, sexuality, gender, race, NOTHING. And asking them to bring light to an issue that is genuinely Not Their Problem and it Isn’t Their Place to say anything. And when they DONT, you tear them to shreds and chuck a coffee they made you back into their face and call them an awful person for staying out of something they know nothing about.

Idk I saw a tweet about ccs not saying anything about [insert thing] and it was like. Bro what do you want them to say? What are you hoping to gain? Go do something yourself, damn….
