i have such a specific take on this and i feel like i need to talk about it so:

lots of people who dislike ronance will use the argument, "it's bad representation because robin can't just fall in love with her first female friend just because she's a lesbian" (which, if we consider the "rebel robin" book, isn't even true). if we are going down that road, though, then so is rockie/rovickie.

when i said i wanted robin to get a girlfriend in season 4/5, i didn't mean vickie a character written just to be a sapphic love interest and fill the gap of actual queer characters on the show. given the conflict between nancy and jonathan this last season, they could've easily gotten her out of that stupid love triangle (free my girl 😔😔). this way, we would've had an actually important character develop feelings for robin over time and figure themselves out without it being their only character trait and purpose on the show. in fact, nancy has been there from the start, and making her queer would've only added another layer to her personality rather than being her sole purpose. i really love the actress who plays vickie, and this is no hate to her whatsoever! i just think there was so much potential right there. instead, they chose to just copy-paste robin's entire personality and called it a day. this is the second thing that really bothers me about rovickie: i feel like her character was just a rip-off of robin's, which felt really lazy (again, this is not on the actress at all!).

personally, I had really high expectations for a second sapphic woman on the show—even before i shipped ronance! there was obviously lots of potential to shape and create a character to be eobin's girlfriend, and they could've done it in so many different ways. i honestly think that's exactly why i ended up loving ronance so much: they're different in so many ways but work so well together once they've gotten over those initial differences! unlike vickie, nancy isn't just a copy-paste version of robin. they're both super smart in their own way, and I think that makes it so fun to watch them interact. In contrast, the rovickie interaction we got felt very predictable because of how alike these two are. do you know what I mean?

sure, we haven't gotten that much rovickie content yet, and maybe it'll change with season 5. but personally, i don't think I'll get over ronance now that the introduction of vickie's character has somehow failed to really resonate with me.

what I learned from season 2 of IWTV is that a distressingly large amount of people cannot tell the difference between a consensual BDSM dynamic and assault/abuse, nor do they know anything about how kink actually works

it’s not unhealthy for Armand to be submissive or delve into maître/slave kink dynamics. in fact it’s something people do to explore and get past their traumas all the time irl. additionally, he is like five times older and more powerful than Louis, he wasn’t being forced to do anything, nor could Louis ever actually force him. the kink was probably the healthiest aspect of their relationship, what fucked them over was a jumble of commitment issues, a lack of trust, and eventual murder - which is something that would cause problems in any relationship ever, no matter how vanilla.

what if when duck said he “always knew he deserved to be dead” he also (maybe unknowingly) meant he excepts how their world works. like we all know he loves living in that hell hole of a home and love love loves when things go orderly and as planned. and he’s ALWAYS fucking dying so he’s sorta like . “hey. if this world wants to kill me sometimes that’s okay.” duck will just randomly out of nowhere says things like he knows too much about whats going on, but he just doesn’t care bc he believes it’s normal. and if he has any awareness of this thing specifically , i don’t think he minds as long as he gets to come back. because that’s always what happens and he’s okay with that. maybe he just thinks that that place knows what’s best for him, so he deserves what he gets. even if it means making him hurt from time to time

Sorry I’m not replying to messages. I do see them. I’m answering some asks and posting a bit of random thought stuff on twitter but I’m feeling kind of like I’m retreating to my old hermit state of internet usage.

Curly had two days to act and Swansea had two months.

I think it’s just interesting that every defense of Swansea not immediately acting are the same ones that are argued against for Curly. “He didn’t want to alert Daisuke or makes things worse for Anya either Jimmy!” I mean people also assume that about Curly and the crew. “He has to think about his plan of action and a right moment!” Again so did Curly, power and authority aside, he still would have to think of what he had to do. “He makes sure he doesn’t have to be around Jimmy!” So did Curly and they only do this to an extent, both give Jimmy more than a few opening to keep harassing Anya.

This isn’t defense of Curly nor a damnation of Swansea. Their actions are very parallel to each others in tragic and sour ways when it comes to how they approached helping Anya. In the grand scheme of it all they both did the same thing: Nothing. No action either took stopped the inevitable outcome of her death nor Jimmy’s continued damage to themself.

The only real difference is Swansea didn’t like Jimmy which is pretty substantial, but also just as damning as Curly knowing how bad Jimmy could get to an extent. He had even less of a reason to wait, even more of a reason to act seeing as he was now worried for Anya AND Daisuke. He is not bound by the possible procedure as Captain and actively does not care about what happens next. So what does it matter if he acted in the moment? Why did he wait? I think he’s just as morally complex and grey as Curly and we hold him on a pedestal that still perpetuates things in rape culture the game critiques.

It’s not just enough to dislike and be abrasive to predators/abusers like Jimmy. It’s not enough to just put yourself between them and the other person. It’s not enough to hold tensions when you know someone is vulnerable. He and Curly do the exact same things but on different sides of the coin. I ask how is it better to not turn a blind eye but still not really do anything about what you are seeing? Not until it affects you atleast…

The game makes a big point to not put men doing the bare minimum or who wait to do more on pedestals and I’m actually surprised so many are missing that point.
