#true story Iceland has a naming commission#if you want to name your kid something that’s not on the list#you have to apply for it to be added#(it has to work with how Icelandic language treats names grammatically)

I was gonna complain about Portugal but then I was thinking of icelandic name shenanigans.

The "last name" of an Icelandic person is usually derived from the dad's name. Like Gunnar's kids would be Gunnarsson for AMAB and Gunnarsdottir for AFAB. Right?

So if I wish to cause mischief I could name my daughter Bottir, then her daughter would legally be named Bottirdottir.

Name your son Sun and then have Sun Tomsson, and his boy, Jon Sunsson.

Have twins and name them Sondottir and Dottirson then watch the chaos unfold in a few short decades.

Name your kid "Adopted"

I am sure there's plenty of puns to be had with icelandic word ending in -S or -So or -D or -Dot.

I think this would be the meanest one, Ættleiddur. multi generational trauma unlocked!
