How do you get over art block?

Welp! This is a very tricky question because there’s really no right or wrong way to do it, but I think it helps to maybe trying to identify the source of your art block. What I typically try to do, is identify my own artblock based on two archetypes: the Skill artblock, or the Creative artblock.

-Skill Artblock is when your eyes have leveled up in their understanding in how they see art, they are always the first to grasp said understanding before anything else. You are able to see mistakes you previously weren’t, you’re able to grasp concepts you had trouble with in the past, and you’re able to decipher how to break things down for easier drawing. Problem is, you’re drawing hand, your muscle memory, has yet to reach enough experience points to put it down on paper. Everything you draw seems wrong in some way or shape or form; it could be how you draw hair, or maybe how you draw hands, the anatomy, the way you paint shadows. Whatever it is, you feel like you’re doing something wrong, and that leads to being unable to get out something satisfying to you in your art, no matter how much you’re actually inspired to make something. 

With this sort of artblock, I think it’s the perfect time to simply create what you want, whatever’s “wrong” with your art be damned. Who cares if that hand is wonky? Draw what you want, let that creativity go crazy! It’s probably a point where you have a fuckton of ideas but can’t seem to get them down on paper in a way you think is correct, so get them down on paper anyway. May as well, right?

-And then there’s the Creative Artblock. This sort of artblock is when you’re satisfied with the way you draw, at least for the most part, but for some reason you can’t think of anything to draw. No headcanons are coming to you, no scenes or instances you think could be interesting, nothing seems good enough in your head. It’s just a dried up well. SO! A good way to combat this sort of artblock is... art studies. It’s a good time to just sit down and do stuff that doesn’t take your brain working hard for creation purposes: if you’re doing a study, it takes away the step where you have to think of what to draw because it’s already in front of you. Just draw what you’re looking at. This is a great way to learn more about your craft and expand on your skill without just sitting on your ass and pouting at that blank blank sheet in front of you. Draw what you see, not what you think.

Ironically, doing this helps balance out the other: if you get a Creative artblock, doing art studies and such helps combat Skill Artblock. In the same breath, putting your ideas to paper despite feeling like something about your art isn’t up to snuff helps with Creative Artblock because you’re drawing what comes to your head, skill level be damned.

-It is very possible to get both at the same time though, and that typically means you’ve reached a point of Burnout. Burnout is something you’d like to try to avoid but sometimes it happens regardless of what you do. If this is what you’re experiencing, the best way I’ve found to combat it is... well. Taking a break. Burnout means you’re exhausted in some way, usually mentally, and trying to push through the burnout honestly just makes it worse in the long run. It might help in that very moment, but when it comes back, it hits harder. 

So take a break. Step away from art entirely if you have to. Do anything else you enjoy: listen to music, play video games, watch a movie; what personally helps me when I get this way is still doing something artful that isn’t actually drawing. That’s why I fuckin love my guitar; I’m learning a different artform, I still get to be creative, but in a completely different way. If you’ve never tried traditional painting, try it! Try sculpting, or knitting, or sewing, or whatever else you’ve always wanted to try but never found the time to. If you wanna try to stay on top of your craft despite unable to engage in it, listen to art tutorials and art advice on youtube, read them, read “Art Of” books and take in the process someone else takes to make their artwork. Rest is good, but active rest is arguably better, since it’s still expanding your understanding and knowledge on something without you making your exhaustion worse.

Welp.. Thats it, here’s my Ranking on MilkCan: make it sweet and all of its tracks

(note some of the songs in this list is also from the game um jammer lammy but its been sung by Katy Kat’s VA Michelle Burks) Track 1 Keep your head up: Love the song! SUCH A BOP and wanted to animate the song but.. it was too dang stressful...  Track 2. Fire Fire: Umm.. not my fav but then again the ingame song sung by the firefighter himself, well, not my tea but the instruamentles, Oh yeah IT SLAPS. overall, not bad, its neat Track 3. Birth song: Okay.. so the Orginal sung by the bunny couple is um.. well it was not my fav to say the least but, in the Album, Its actually really sweet and wholesome! honestly never thought this song will also be my fav. Track 4. Baby baby: Its not my fav but I would listen to this while bored out of mind while drawing something dumb. also, yes, the demon Child is singing along and in the background there’s the weird Cataplier nurse like ingame( NoW P u T t H e SE Ki dS tO Sl ee P! W ill YA?!) honestly this song, Pretty much sums up babysitting i guess Track 5. Fright Flight: This, This actually Slaps pretty hard! Honestly, I actually like this, Love the Vocals, Love the grunge Aesathics! but then again.. This was from that one plane stage where this guy who may/may not have been through a war and the stage itself does have a Grunge Feel to it so DUH... (also to add, i love how the album heck the game itself have so many genre of music that use guitars) Track 6. Casino in my hair: Hmm.. honestly, I’m a bit mixed, I’m sure that if I would listen to this track when I was little I would think it might be a Bop but now.. its just kinda meh..

Track 7. Power on, Power off: Um.. not my fav, I mean, it feels kinda a bit off in some cases but not too off putting. I honestly dont like it but im sure some people would think its a bop i guess... Track 8. Taste of Teriyaki: ... y a y.. fever dream from hell- I mean space. Okay so.. hm.. what to make of this, okay At first I was thinking it was gonna be a messy but actually, I kinda like it. weird? yes, But, honestly i got used to it and it pretty neat! I like it! I love it better than the ingame ver Track 9. Rammy’s theme: Okay to explain who the heck is Rammy, In Um jammer Lammy, Rammy is pretty much an Anti Lammy. She’s has a hatred of Lammy cause I guess she stole her gig? (idk i can really remember much about her at the moment) But yeah, her theme, It alright

Track 10. Got to move (millennium Girl): Okay.. this song, is a bit mix with me, cause, there’s a few moments where I find it a BOP but then there are some moments where its like, it alright i guess.. its just Okay.. Oh yeah and Parappa was there, forgot to mention about that. 

Track 11. WE ARE MILKCAN!!: Honestly this track, feels like a charater interaction, which isnt a bad thing in fact it kinda gives us a little bit of background for the Band Members of Milkcan. but the song itself? its okay

I think it’s time for me to introduce myself.

Hi there everyone! My name is Ophelia, I’m 23 (turning 24 in April!), and this is my Kylo Ren/Ben Solo/Adam Driver/Star Wars thirst sideblog. My main is @eyecandybarnes.

I joined tumblr back in, like... 2014? 2015? Maybe? I can’t remember. I joined originally just for some fandom stuff and art, and quickly abandoned my original main blog to create @eyecandybarnes because my OG love is Bucky Barnes, and writing Marvel fanfics. However, I quickly fell in love with both Adam Driver and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo upon the release of The Force Awakens, and now I’m 99% sure that Bucky Barnes has taken the back seat in my brain while Kylo reigns.

I’d never made a blog for this interest of mine until now, because of what I heard from others. Until recently, I’d always seen people saying Adam Driver wasn’t attractive, that it was wrong to be in love with Kylo Ren because he’s a villain. Welp, I came to terms with the fact that I like villain types (hello? The Winter Soldier? duh). Also, the folks saying Adam Driver isn’t attractive are CLEARLY smoking crack.

Anyways, here are a couple quick facts about me:

I love Marvel and Disney (obviously). These are the two entertainment media companies I regularly consume content from the most.

I’m a photographer and artist, and I own my own photography business doing portraiture. Keep an eye out, I’m actually planning to draw Adam Driver soon!

I have many health issues, including anxiety, depression, and rheumatoid arthritis. RA is a pretty shitty autoimmune disorder, and mine is also rare, affecting most joints in my body, the bones in my ears, and my nerves. I’m losing my hair, losing my hearing due to the deterioration of the bones in my ears, and sometimes have trouble with mobility as the arthritis is in my spine and sometimes causes my arms and legs to have tremors/go numb. This will eventually put me into a wheelchair while I’m still fairly young, which is gonna suck butt. TL;DR: if I’m not on for a while, it’s probably because of health issues. Don’t worry, I come back as soon as I’m feeling better.

I’m a fish mama. I have three goldfish, of whom I raised as babies and they’re now all about 5-9in long at 4 years old.

I have six tattoos (soon to be more): an owl, a Star of David, a bunch of roses on my thigh, my dog’s paw print, one of my fish, and I’m currently working on a half sleeve of Bucky Barnes’ metal arm.

I listen to mostly punk, hard rock, metal, anything with lots of guitar and drums and angsty shit. However, I also like classical music, jazz, piano, and quirky new artists like Billie Eilish.

I’m heavily into BDSM, degradation and praise kinks, shit like that... and that’s why this blog will always border on inappropriate.

They should be called that! I usually only go for names-combinations for the ships names (so kamisero and serokami and seronari and so on), but I’m sure if they were a bigger ship that would be the name! Introduction

Hello! I am Eunice! I’ve existed on this planet for a little more than 17 years. I decided to make a studyblr because two of my close friends have a studyblr (@biochemistryy (which I’m manually linking because Tumblr refuses to acknowledge its existence?) and @symphonystudies ) and that seems fun! 

Plus, I’ll be starting university this fall and it’ll be nice to start a blog at the same time as I start this new chapter of my life. I’m undeclared for now, but I intend on majoring in Computer Science. I hope to major in something else as well, although I don’t know what yet. I’m the worst at studying but I want to work really hard and be the best that I can be in college, so I hope that making a studyblr will help make me more productive!

This ended up being really long so… more after the break!

PERSONALITY:

I’m really relaxed, slow, and carefree but I’m also really timid and cannot operate under stress at all. I’m also kind of scared of people (and being judged–actually, I’m well aware that this introduction is super long and I’m having second thoughts about posting it so that maybe 1.5 people will see it and judge me on it. But `I spent way too much time on this so there’s no going back) and not very sociable but I’m working on that, so talk to me! I have the tendency to be vague (”Concerning this project… I have goals in mind. What goals? Well, to be specific… many”) and to exaggerate things (”The clock may have shown only a minute has passed, but I’ve literally been doing this for 10 years and I can feel myself dying already”).

I tend to dream big and would usually set my standard way higher than my current ability level or I just don’t have standards at all. For an example. I realize most people’s introductions are not as long as this or as self-obsessive as this, but I before I began, I had established the goal of having several subheadings in my introduction and a decent chunk of writing per subheading and I am not about to give up on that goal because of something as silly as “the reader will get bored.” My tendency to overshoot is not the best since I also have approximately zero energy ever and I’m super lazy so I never do anything if there are no repercussions to my inaction. I’m also terrible at finishing things and I usually have a ton of half-written stories or projects lying around, although this might be a byproduct of my inability to set and follow through on reasonable goals. I’m trying to do and finish more things, though. I’m making some progress. I mean, I have this studyblr now, right?

That quickly got kind of negative at the end, but in general, I love being myself. It’s great. I just tend to compare myself to people and feel inferior sometimes, but I bounce back in a day, at most.

FANDOMS:

I’m not really an intense kind of person and usually, I fall in love with something for a couple of days or hours and then move on from that honeymoon phase so I don’t actually belong to any fandom.

MOTIVATIONS:

It sounds way lame, but my extrinsic motivations to do things are usually one of the following:

+ I can listen to music more

+ I’m expected to do this

+ People will think I’m cool

+ People will dislike me if I don’t

+ People will like me if I do

+ I wanna make my friends/my family/whoever proud/surprised

+ I want this to exist but it doesn’t

MUSIC:

My favorite genre of music is musicals! Ahaha… That doesn’t really count because there is a wide range of genres in musicals. I’m not a super-fan with knowledge of some obscure musical or whatever, but I casually listen to a couple of popular ones, and I’m fine with that. Currently, I really like Be More Chill, In the Heights, Spring Awakening, and Evita. I really like musical cartoons like My Little Pony and Steven Universe. They’re just so cute and brightly colored! There might be more, but I can’t think of any right now. I wish there were more cartoons with a ton of songs. I like any music though–although I’m super partial towards music with vocals because I’m a choir person–and I would love getting music recommendations! 

I vaguely know the theory behind guitar and piano. I never practice ever, though, so my ability level is embarrassingly low.

HOBBIES:

Since I was small, my response to the question “What do you like to do?” has been “write, draw, sing, read.” I don’t do them all in equal measure though. For an example, this year, I’ve hardly written or drawn for fun. I’m doing those more so far this summer, but it pales in comparison to when I was in that “phase.” My writing phase was mostly in late elementary school and then it happened again early high school. I was in my drawing phase in early elementary and the middle of high school. I had my singing phase late middle and high school and my reading phase was all of elementary school, early middle and high school, and late high school. I really like fantasy and supernatural kinds of stories. Or anything funny, I guess. I also like books about cognition and sleep. Basically, the functionings of the mind. Recently though, the only thing I’ll read are translated light novels about transmigration of a modern human to another fantasy world that’s usually an otome game or something. It’s so niche and cliche I could die of embarrassment. Luckily no one will read this except for maybe the two people I gave a shoutout to, so… Hello, friends! Please ignore me!

I’m absolutely terrible or at best, average, and all of those things, though, so that’s kind of sad. Although I can read pretty fast and stay focused for long periods of time while still retaining the information if I am actually interested in the text, though, so I’m kind of proud of that.

Other than those things I do all the time, varyingly, there are other things I picked up recently that I love and want to do more of. I really like sewing because the idea of making things is just so nice to me, programming because that’s amazing and I can do everything with is and that’s amazing I just need to actually figure out what I’m doing first, and probably other things, but they aren’t coming to mind right now.

LANGUAGES:

The only language I know is English but I want to know literally all the other languages that exist in the world. My top five, however, are:

1. Japanese - Most of the media I consume are natively in English or Japanese so it’ll be nice to learn Japanese so I don’t have to wait for forever for the translations. Plus, I’ve always wanted to learn since I first watched anime while I was an elementary school kid.

2. Mandarin - After English and Japanese, Mandarin makes up the greatest amount of media I consume (mostly light novels). Plus, it’s widely-spoken so it must be useful! Since it’s spoken in so many places, there are a ton of different accents and so native speakers are more forgiving if I mess up so I don’t need to worry that much about my accent! A lot of my friends speak Mandarin as their mother tongue or are fluent in it, and it’ll be nice to connect with them in this way.

3. Cantonese - My parents came from Hong Kong and speak Cantonese as natives. I really want to get in touch with my roots and learn it too! Plus, a lot of my family and some of my friends speak it natively and I want to be able to connect with them in their native language.

4. Spanish - Spanish is also really popular and musicals like Evita and In the Heights make me want to learn Spanish. Besides, I live in California and California has a sizable Spanish-speaking population. One of my best friends speaks Spanish natively and it’s so cool and I want to talk to her in Spanish too! Plus, it is from the same family as English so it won’t be as hard as learning something completely different like Hindi or something… ?

5. Korean - A lot of my friends are excited about K-pop and want to learn Korean and I want to learn Korean with them and be a part of that experience. But really, the main reason why I first wanted to learn Korean was because the spelling is very logical and I thought “eh, why not?” I couldn’t remember the Hangul at all though, so I dropped it by the day’s end, hahaha. But I went to Korea recently and I love the clothes and things and the people seem really nice and I want to be able to make a friend in Korea and maybe didn’t even know English because that would be different! And cool!

MISC. FAVORITES:

I love cats! I’m allergic, but that doesn’t stop my love for cats! Dogs are cute too and birds are way up there too, but cats have purr-loined my heart! I really like puns too. I think they’re cute and clever and people who can make constant puns and turn of phrases are amazing. My favorite characters are the energetic, excited child (or child-like) characters such as Seven from Mystic Messenger or Wheatley from Portal 2. I also really like Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights and Erik from Phantom of the Opera though, so that’s not a hard and fast rule. Although… I like writing dark and moody characters as well as childish and excited characters, especially them being best friends and acting as each other’s foils, so that’s probably where my character preferences come from. I love pastels and I love clothes and I love pastel clothes! I’m terrible with fashion though and I’ve been wearing yoga pants and a jacket basically all my life. It recently changed to leggings, a t-shirt, and an outerwear, and I’ve been trying to dress more nicely recently, but all in all, I’m still pretty hobo-like in appearance. I like anime although I haven’t really been reading or watching anything in particular. I just like anime in general and it really reflects in everything I do, whoops. I’m kind of embarrassed by that though.

GOALS:

(For this summer)

+ Be more sociable

+ Be more cheerful, excited about life

+ Actually stick with things and don’t drop them in three seconds

+ Set goals better

+ Accomplish something measurable by the summer’s end

Welp, I did it

Behold, Human!AU Snack Pack, they are essentially the theater clique at their high school.

I have made the... very regrettable mistake of trying to use watercolor pencils on non-watercolor paper and let me tell you all it was a PAIN

But I got it done and here it is

Suki Mendoza

-Half Filipino, Half African-American (first generation American on father’s side)

- Has known Poppy and Branch since Kindergarten school, one of Poppy’s closest friends, one of the few people Branch can tolerate at his worst

-Has trouble finding her inside voice, tends to speak really loudly

Popi “Poppy” Hanako

-Japanese-American (second generation American on both sides, her grandparents from both sides came to America around the same time)

-Friends with her neighbor, Branch, essentially since birth (their families were good friends prior to either of them being born)

-Tries to befriend everyone and everything. She often has to be stopped from feeding wild animals. That being said, a lot of critters, birds, and strays will follow her around because she feeds them

-Fills scrapbook after scrapbook after scrapbook with all the events of her and her friends’ lives (carries around one of those instax instant cameras just for this purpose)

-Crushes really easily and really hard, but never dated until Creek came along

-Plays many instruments, but her go-to instrument is the guitar

Brandon “Branch” Figaroa

-3/4 Mestizo, 1/4 Black-Latino (prefers the term “Mixed Latino” or just “Latino” because his entire family is from Latin America) (first generation American)

-Bisexual

-Friends with his neighbor, Poppy, essentially since birth (their families were good friends prior to either of them being born)

-Had a below-the-knee amputation when he was five years old due to a car crash that crippled him and killed his parents. He has a prosthetic left leg. (He actually has three different types of prosthetic legs by the time he’s in high school (and done growing), one that he wears nearly all the time, a waterproof one for swimming, and a more realistic-looking one that he only wears on very special occasions (like his performance in the school musical, “Aida”, because he couldn’t cover his legs with pants) because it’s expensive and he doesn’t want to scuff it up by wearing it all the time)

-Usually ends up socializing with other people ONLY because Poppy drags him along, is very emotionally dependent on Poppy

-Incredibly talented at poetry, writing, and songwriting, but usually too self-conscious to share it with the world

Bridget Garcia

-Mexican-American (second generation American, doesn’t know Spanish)

-Gristle is, in her opinion, the most beautiful guy on earth, and had a crush on him ever since she moved to California, but never told anyone until sophomore year of high school (and, of course, once she tells the Snack Pack, they come up with the most elaborate scheme to get them together, which ABSOLUTELY involves a pink jumpsuit, an ungodly amount of colored hairspray, and an earpiece for them to relay things to say to her)

Gary “Gristle” King, Jr.

-White American

-Heterosexual

-Joined the Snack Pack when he and Bridget started dating in sophomore year of high school, but had known Branch as his tutor for a few years prior

-Got his nickname for being exceptionally greasy (his undying love for pizza doesn’t help this at all). He not only accepts, but embraces this nickname because he doesn’t know why he has it or how he earned it, he just thinks it’s so cool that he has nick name.

-Does not do well in academics, but really loves, and is really good at dancing and rollerskating, instead.

-Just like Poppy, he tries to befriend everyone and everything, and he’s actually generally well-liked because of this

Sadie “Smidge” and Felipe Roberto

-Identical twins (Smidge is a transgirl, and chose her name, but “Smidge” was a nickname she’s had since before she came out)

-Of Puerto Rican descent (third generation American, their grandparents were New Yourican, they don’t know Spanish)

-Asexuals

-Became friends with Poppy and the Snack Pack so far in fourth grade

- Felipe is mute and mostly uses a dry-erase board to talk to others (Poppy always gifts him with new dry-erase colors to use) but uses ASL to talk to his sister. If he doesn’t have his dry-erase board handy, Smidge translates from ASL so people who don’t know ASL can understand him

-People also sometimes affectionately call him “Scuzz” or “Fuzz” because he almost always grows his hair out, he hates having it cut

-Smidge LOVES sports and weight lifting and can usually be found at the gym. She will also fight anyone who hurts her friends (people are scared of her)

-They are the shortest people in their high school, at just 4′7″

Benjamin “Biggie” Denver

-Immigrant from Great Britain (came to America in fifth grade)

-Poppy and the Snack Pack so far befriended him on the first day of school, because he was shy and didn’t seem to have any friends, yet

-Mr. Dinkles is his therapy pet chihuahua that he spoils to BITS and all his collars are rhinestone studded and if he’ll bring him wherever he can get away with bringing him (his biggest enemies are “no dogs allowed” signs)

-He strives to one day be a pet photographer and volunteers at the local animal shelter to take pictures for their website

-He’s very good at comforting the other members of the Snack Pack, and is usually the one to talk Branch down from his depressive episodes

-He carries around his digital camera all the time, and usually helps Poppy fill her scrapbooks by emailing her the pictures he’s taken

Guy Dihrati

-Indian-American (first generation American)

-Pansexual, but most people mistake him for homosexual

-Met Poppy, Branch, and Suki in third grade (he had already been friends with Cooper)

-Will only wear things that either already have glitter or sequins on them, or can have glitter or sequins added to them (and, of course, even his hair has glitter in it)

-If he had a higher pain tolerance, he’d get more piercings than just his ears

-He’s self confident to the point where he can borderline on narcissistic

-He and Suki become best friends, and people would think they were dating if they didn’t already think that he’s gay. They can usually be found hanging out with each other and playfully teasing Branch and Poppy (usually Branch) because of how openly cuddly they are. Well… I TRY to keep it clean but… eh. I’m an artist. Clean isn’t exactly a word I’d use to describe any place I frequently work in.

Red Carpet bum. I’m not kidding. I mean, I try to look nice sometimes, but normally, I’ve got some fandom shirt on with skinny jeans and hide all that with my fancy coat. It’s either nerdy bum or red carpet attendee. There’s no in between.

13: Any siblings?

Yeppers! Two little sisters, one little brother, and if you unlock level 50 of my bio, I might tell you a bit more about my siblings :)

14: If you can live anywhere in the world where would it be? why?

Hmmm… probably either Portland, LA or New York, state-side. All three of those places would make it easier for me to have a career in animation, like I’m aiming for. Otherwise, probably somewhere in London or Spain. London because I’d love to live there for a while and just experience that, and Spain because even though my family is from Mexico, Spain is where my dad’s mom’s ancestors are from. Yay history!

I have to pick one? Oh man… um… Either Doctor Who, Numb3rs, or Gravity Falls. OUAT is a close second.

Oooooh!!! Autumn Leaves or that Apple/Cinnamony one that I can’t remember. All I know is that it has a bit of spice to it and vanilla and some hints of apple and it really just reminded me of baking apple pie :D

Yes!! I play flute, guitar (sorta) and piano (sorta). Self taught guitar and piano, formal flute. Y'know, school band and such.

Despite my fondness of light, cool colors, warm, dark colors look best on me. Specifically blacks, dark purples, warm browns, dark reds, and strangely, coral. Though I can totally rock bright colors too.

80: What is your biggest pet peeve?

As of late, people who are too arrogant to listen to instruction. There’s this guy in my class who keeps trying to teach the professor instead of listening to her suggestions to improve his art. I understand he’s experienced, but that is no excuse to be rude or act like you know everything about the medium. There’s always more to learn.

Also, people who sit way too close to me on the bus. I’m small enough that you don’t need to sit on me to fit in the seat, thanks.
