The first edition of “The Guinness Book of Records” was published in Great Britain on October 3, 1955. It quickly proved to be a hit.

She must be very tired. Her mother must be very proud.
What I am stunned by ???
Who knew Guinness kept kink World Records?
I think we need to see what other World Records are out there.

I wanna share more erm.. belly stuff about my favorite characters and media on here but I'm already REALLY pushing it with this blog being named after e/q/u/i\u\s since I'm, like, one of maybe 5 of his total fans, and make it very obvious on all my main accounts.
If anyone finds the art or fics it's like. There's maybe a handful of people that even care about that character or fandom enough to make something for it and it doesn't take a lot of searching to see who they are and narrow it down lol.
I'll try to hint at what some of them are in the tags if anyone is curious, and wants to request anything with the characters from those medias so I have an excuse to post about em lol.
#I'm using my kink blog as an actual blog now huh. Oops#Lmao. anyways...#My biggest autistic interest is from 1967 and was even left out of a timeline in an official "history of S/tudio G/hibli” book-#-and most media about SG in general-#-despite it being literally the entire reason S/tudio G/hibli exists#Even the mfs who own the rights to it don't give enough of a fuck to even mention it anymore-#This anime also inspired countless other media to an insane degree like DM me if you're curious because I couldn't-#-possibly list everything. I'm talking entire TROPES. Iconic tropes and concepts in film as a whole.#ALSO: copyright issues with a spin off of this anime directly resulted in the creation of Inspector Gadget.#My other interest is a game made in 2003#^^it holds a Guinness World Record for “most critically-divisive video game”#Yet the fanbase is so empty that I have literally talked with the creators on discord.#Considering the record it holds that might be less surprising.. but still...#This next game is from 2007. Despite its source company using it to debut an entire public animation software-#-and animations made using said software ushered in an entire subgenre of entertainment on youtube in the early 2000s-#-the creators have been all but abandoned the game. Leaving only the most annoying tryhards or bots to reside within the modern servers..#^^it seems to be making a comeback though in terms of popularity because of this tho#so maybe I made it too obvious haha#self post

Y'ALL
I just saw an article about this incredible photoshoot and I'm completely obsessed.
Tumblr media
During covid restrictions, photographer Steven Haining was joking with some friends that "well hey if we all have scuba tanks we could all be breathing our own air during a photo shoot" and then was like wait hold on that's not a bad idea.
Flash forward, and he's doing a full photo shoot in Fathom Five National Marine Park.
Tumblr media
Now please keep in mind that this park is in Tobermory, Canada, on Georgian Bay. It is COLD. The water temp is about 14 C (or 57 F) in the middle of July when they did this shoot. They shot for close to 30 minutes at a depth of 9.5m (32 ft) with the model, Ciara Antoski, having a support person nearby at all times to give her air. Everyone else is in full wetsuits or even dry suits and she has this pretty dress and a weight belt. I have been swimming in Georgian Bay. It is COLD. This is incredibly impressive and must have required intense training.
The results are breathtaking.

And safety first of course:

Link to the photographer's website:
I cannot find any links for the model Ciara Antoski but if I do I'll add them here.
Anyways. Figured this is the kind of thing tumblr might appreciate!

Your post made me remember a long forgotten memory from my childhood where I was at a zoo and saw this big ass snake.
Now, I’m not sure if it was an exaggeration due to how small I was, or if it was even real in the first place (could’ve been a dream for all I know). But after seeing how big that snake is, I’m starting to wonder if it was actually real (albeit probably not as big as kid me thought it was, but still pretty big). Just wanted to thank you for awakening this long lost memory from my brain.
from what i'm aware, the largest snake ever held in captivity was a reticulated python around 25.6 feet long (not much shorter than the recently discovered northern green!), meaning it's entirely possible you sure did see a very large snake in a zoo. the largest green anaconda kept in captivity was around 20 feet, which is how long a normal reticulated python gets
these two species are both kept in a fair number of zoos (off the top of my head, san diego has an anaconda and atlanta has a retic)
i've seen some claims there was also a 32 foot retic measured at some point but i can't find any reliable sources on that, just pop listicles (which cannot be trusted in the field of cool reptile facts) so i'm gonna call it probably bullshit (update i found sources, however i'm. still calling bullshit, explanation on my thoughts in the tags but the tldr is i don't trust big fish stories from 111 years ago (update update yeah this claim literally has no basis other than the guinness world records organization claiming it, they've been known to measure snakes as significantly larger than they are, i think it's safe to just entirely throw out this specimens reported size))
feel free to google either species to see if it rings a bell for your mystery childhood snake

I forgot what seeded the thought, but I wanted to know what's the largest a compass could be before physics prevents it from getting bigger. Like, if it got so big and heavy the magnetic field wouldn't be able to exert force on it greater than other forces like gravity.
Turns out, there's no answer. Either that or my search skills are getting worse. There's a 4,000ft compass in the desert somewhere but it's painted on the ground. But that's, you'll need another compass to even make that one. Given enough tectonic shift it'll be wrong some day. The search provided me results to a 9cm compass for children ages 7 and up.
So I asked the /physics reddit and got some vague discussions but no one seemed to have a ready clear response. The only upvoted response is the it has to be smaller than the Earth. Someone mentioned ships used to have big compasses and the largest one I found was a nearly 11" compass from ye Olde days.
Can a functional compass be the size of a bus? A warehouse? A continent? Or would the magnetic field be unable to turn a needle heavier than 50kgs?
Maybe I need to find out how much force the magnetic field can exert on an object free floating in water closed to the environment.
I even had the thought of looking in the Guinness Book website but the only result that they had was oldest compass.

Red Dawn (1984): Avenging Before the Avengers Made It Cool
WOLVERINES! Red Dawn might be about Soviet/Cuban soldiers invading America, but it’s also about MAN STUFF! I’m talking about growing up too fast, eating raw meat, killing without flinching, refusing to process trauma, not showing any emotion other than anger and all sorts of other things that lead to severe, lingering emotional problems. MAN STUFF! Continue reading Untitled
