I'm reading character rankings and Downton Abbey and apparently we are supposed to be annoyed at Branson when he shows up for....being right about class issues? Being a socialist? Annoying the Crawleys by making them think about the ethics of their money? Like seriously what am I missing here?

Multiple articles talk about him like he only became a good guy once he shut up and became one with the Crawley Aristocrat Horde but honestly I found him kind of boring when he didn't have a love interest. And speaking of, when he did have a love interest---the way poor Sarah was talked about jfc. When she showed up I was like "okay great I love her and her finally calling him on losing his socialist principles once the palace doors were opened to him, she's going to bring him back to his morals" but instead she was thrown out and treated like the absolute devil incarnate and all the protagonists joked about how obviously evil she was because as Mrs. Hughes said "heaven forbid we contradict the holy Family."

for the stupid icebreaker segment of one of my classes (cultural anth) we split into smaller groups and played a round of two truths one lie and apparently im really good at this game?? bc no one guessed my lie??? i remember we played the game once in high school drama class and no one guessed that time either though ill admit i cannot recall what i offered as my options that time but the high from winning that game was INSANE because drama kids in my mind means A) highly competitive and B) better at catching out what acting looks like. its just kinda weird bc im both clumsily honest by default, love oversharing, and am generally quite gullible (ex: when guessing OTHER people's lies in class yesterday, i was batting a perfect ✨0✨ and i was trying very, very hard) so i always sort of expect it will be immediately obvious which one is not true

however, playing that game yesterday did give me a small hypothesis for a sort of unspoken bias that might afflict how people choose their option which i kind of want to test more....

Watching the AO3 top ship finals go down (here it is), and the amount of people talking about how the mlm ship (not naming it, in case I get dragged for having an opinion) deserves to win because it’s a part of Tumblr history is just… ridiculous.

Like, that is absolutely correct, but why exactly did it become a part of Tumblr history? Why has Tumblr had an obsession with non-canon (this particular ship is canon, though, but it seemed like a last minute decision from the writers) mlm ships, whilst ignoring any potential wlw ones?

I think about my own characters way more than any characters in media so I started with what characters came to mind first and the first 3 were from obscure series while the last two would have been very well known so I decided to instead come up with total of 5 all from obscure series instead so it would be more balanced. I think my faves really rotate depending on what media I am currently consuming.. Only 1 of these has an anime let's see if that one wins.
