I never really liked the romance in this story to begin with (or romances in general). George shannon jessica kanon all bore and annoy me i'd be happy if i hadn't wasted time reading their scenes. But at least beatrice and battler were interesting tearing into each other and now i dont even have that. New chick beatrice dropped any interest i had in the pair off a cliff. Like what was interesting was beatrice having fun being evil and bullying battler that sort of heated back and forth (also femdom). And now that back and forth dynamic is with erika and beatrice is narratively reduced to an accessory for battler. Not even sure i like the story anymore but im like 2/3 though the game so maybe i'll finish it for the sake of finishing it. The romances really are getting in the way of my enjoyment.

Mother???? Beatrice was created to love battler split from another beatrice. I know the author is doing like a fated lovers thing but i'm a hard sell on this trope it easily has unsettling implications. Like that beatrice was raised specifically to appeal to and to be battler's wife. Also what is uo with the flashback i'm guess those are battler's forgotten memories brought up a few episodes ago.

Given how much kanon refers to shanin as his big sister this is just more evidence the author forgot shannon is 16 and the same age as kanon. She's consistently treated by the narrative as older than 16. Also if kanon has been a servant aince he was aix why didnt he meet jessica until they were teenagers

there's so many beatrices in this story.... So uh older and younger "sisters" fused? But if one was made new from the rules to love battler and the other is the embodiment of rokenjima urban legends then neither of them remember the first 3 episodes and the time actually spent bonding with battler.

Guuuurl you should have run to argentina just like all the other fascist Italians and germans. Kinzo's 40?? Also he kept fucking his wife even after meeting beatrice.

Ok lion gender icon. So in this fragment Beatrice 2 kinzo incest baby was pushed by natsuhi but nanjo saved it, then raised as Yasu, a servant. Yasu started at 6 as a servant and was said to be the only servant so young and that this never happens. But what about kanon and shanon who were said to have started 10 years ago at 6, are they not real??? And shanon shows up older in yasu's childhood so why's there 2 shanons? If yasu/beatrice3 is both shanon and kanon then that... Fits actually but it's soooo fucked because then every single ushiromiya cousin (minus ange) in romancing a beatrice who is also their cousin/auncle. Umineko once again has my head reeling. That would explain the 16 people is kanin and shanon are the same person and also the secret 19th person. Takes the role of beatrice in the fragment they're accepted by natsuhi, but also natsuhi assumes they're a young man in ep... 5? I'm assuming based on the baby's sex. Also the successor to kinzo in the fragment where they're raised by natsuhi and unlike jessica lion is refered to the successor not their future husband. Also kinzos a misogynist. Also when asked their gender by will, lion is like lol no. Not that i think any of the ushiromiya adults would be trans allies. The best supported interpretation so far is that lion was intended for the role of the woman beatrice but performs gender and lives in a masculine role. They're assigned male at birth but choose androgyny and live beyond rigid manhood. Imagine being such a chad that you're transfem and transmasc at the same time. And the stakes are maids.

And then yasu made themself beatrice! I always did wonder are gaap's clothes glued to her? Yasu made a witchsona! I'm still a bit confused but yasu rewrote reality so shannon is the servant shell left behind, white beatrice is them living her best life, and kanon is miserable wet cat boymode. Yup the incest is layered. All the ushiromiya cousins are romancing... uh aspects(?) of the same hivemind entity. I never really liked the romance in this story but yeah umineko totally lost me. For how central the theme of love is, this romance sucks.

George does not act 7 years older than shannon and 5 more than jessica and battler. Like in the scenes reminiscing about their childhood they all feel much closer is age. Wait so is shanon separate from white beatrice or no. Im confused. Also umineko is showing its long development cycle you can tell the author is moving on to new ideas. The tone has changed as this has become a story of outlandish witches. The author in ep 7 (6 too i think battler reads 100 books a year) writers battler as a mystery novel enthusiast while in ep 1 (and 2?) battler seemed unfamiliar with the mystery genre and it's conventions and tropes. SHANNON AND WHITE BEA ARE ...from(?) the same person! because battler promised that he would come for shannon's answer next year and then he never came and when he did he didn't mention it! And that was the forgotten promised gold beatrice despaired and lost her will to live over. And shannon was wanted to promise the rest of her life to him.(Also the incest is inescapable as someone else says "3/4 kinzo").

hey is there any particular Qi story you wish existed but can't/don't want to write for some reason. Asking for a friend

yeah im always thinking about his friendship with mint and his relationship with his parents. depending on how long my fic gets through the 'story' of the assistant and qi that exists in my head (my barely uncontained lust) they might wind up meeting qis parents and grandfather but as a person hes very focused on the present moment and doesnt like talking much about himself which leads to questions about his upbringing.

he describes himself as a child as 'aloof' (which i think is jsut qi code for being a normal kid not focused on scientific achievement) and we see him smiling in his pictures. it seems like he's had a pretty positive upbringing with two parents who really love eachother, but he sort of... talks down to them? sometimes in a way thats almost classist (he refers to his parents work area [or their home? idk] as a 'fishing-shack') and rude (criticizing their enjoyment of their profession in a way he doesnt understand or "unoptimized") and its like. the way he talks about his grandfather and the way he talks about his parents are very different. Mint never brings up his mom and dad, but brings up his grandpa. so, like, whats going on there? were his parents absent a lot on fishing trips?

chances are he has a good relationship with his parents. hes canonically confirmed to write them AT LEAST about events important to his life (he mentions telling them when he starts dating you, his 3.14%) so it doesnt seem unhealthy. and he is generally pretty tone deaf and i dont really think hes fully cognizant of the nuances of him talking down on his parents. i doubt its one of active resentment but like dude its so unsexy of you the way you talk about your mom and dad im bone dry over here

i think about qi and mint reflecting on their shared childhood semi frequently as suggested by some of their reflections on it in fwb:mwrm. qi goes through a lot of changes through his canonical 'character arc' and he starts putting more effort into his social responsibilities and it makes me wonder like...

-Mint is very family oriented in portia, having had none growing up in the orphanage and craving the opportunity to start one, where as qi seems to be pretty flippant about his up until he gets married and has a family of his own. does that ever create any difficulties between them? Would Qi talk about his parents the same way infront of mint?

-When do you think Qi really changed his mindset from aloofness to his now very progress oriented track of mind? did it impact their relationship at all?

-Mint and Qi both confirm that they remember the old creations they made together. how does seeing qi realize some of what they'd discussed change their relationship?

i like their friendship. i see them like distant siblings i guess. i can't see myself writing anything devoted to it outside of fwb but i feel like qi has a lot of intricacies that people dont pay attention to. his relationship with mint is clearly very important to him even if he has an ...interesting way of showing it (mint breaks his equipment and he's barely mad, bronco touches his equipment and he'll 'never forgive him') and thus the builders/his partners relationship with mint is probably also pretty important. and mints relationship with his kid if he ever has one ('uncle mint' is a VERY cute idea).

i also love the idea of him going to a festival with the builder. any of them. ohhhhh i just know he'd fucking love winning at the prophunt one

Gun was more than happy to return home to you with the good news that he had no work for tomorrow. And once he told you, he was pleased to see your shared excitement.

"We should plan a date for tomorrow," he suggested, "What would you like to do?"

He listened intently as you described the activities you had in mind. Whether they were staying at home all day or venturing off into the city, he didn't care as long as it was quality time spent with you. He couldn't wait to devote himself fully to you tomorrow, but for now he had other ideas.

Before he could say anything, you lead him right to it by asking, "What about you? Anything you want to do tomorrow?"

"No, your plans sound just fine. But, I was thinking that for tonight we do what I had planned ever since I got the news that I'm having tomorrow off."

Gun held up a keyring with his car keys, dangling them. "A late night drive around sound good to you?"

Dirving around Seoul and seeing all the night lights was beautiful. The hushed bustling compared to the loudness during the day was also refreshing. Not to mention, the general dark blanket that came with nighttime--it was all relaxing to Gun, and even more so with you by his side.

Not much talking happened throughout the ride, but it wasn't awkward at all. Just a peaceful silence as you both enjoyed the cool air that breezed through the open windows of the car. Of course, the occasional conversations did take place but they were more like lighthearted smalltalk if anything.

While driving, Gun didn't have a fixed destination in mind, but when his random turns lead you both to a quieter part of Seoul, he slowed down and looked for a place to park. It ended up being the parking lot of some abandoned store, or at least it looked like it.

"Late night drive over?" You turned to him as he finished up parking.

He nodded. "Let's stargaze."

"On what grass? I'm not laying on the asphalt floor," you semi-joked, looking around at the street.

Gun just rolled his eyes in amusement. "Who said we're even leaving the car?" He got up with a bent back as to not bump his head on the car's roof before stepping over the car's controls. He then sat down on the second row seats and reached an arm up, grabbing a handle on the roof and pulling it back to reveal a glass roof.

Your jaw dropped momentarily.

"Come on." He waved you over and watched as you moved from your seat to join him in the second row. Once you did, he adjusted the seats so they laid parallel to the floor and you both flopped down at the same time. The two of you glanced at each other for a moment before softly laughing together.

After that came more peaceful silence as you both stared up at the stars. At some point, Gun moved his attention from the sky to you, and he was reminded of another reason why he preferred nighttime over daytime--it was the way moonlight shined on you, the way it added a special charm that highlighted your features.

"I want to show them my appreciation," he thought, hands suddenly aching to touch you. If he wasn't showing you love through gifts, it was definitely through his touch. He figured he might as well express the latter since there were no gifts around to give. Plus he was going to be free tomorrow anyway, why not stay up a little later with his lover?

Gun turned to lay on his side and put an arm over your abdomen, hand resting on your hip. "Hey."

"Mm?" You didn't turn to look at him, too busy admiring the stars. Not for long though, because the words he whispered in your ear made you jerk your head his direction and made your cheeks hotter than the sun. "Gun, we're in public," you practically hissed.

"This is a pretty secluded area. And I don't see anyone around. Do you?" He smirked when you couldn't reply. It only widened when you didn't stop him from sliding his hand up your shirt. "I need your vocal consent before I continue, dear."

I Have Too Many Opinions. ep. 1

lmao. i got encouragement to post my opinions on fandom things and now i want to make a miniseries doing just that. so here i am. doing just that.

im putting it under the cut cuz this was 4 whole pages including the disclaimer. yes i put a disclaimer and i explain why.

Anyways, here is the first piece in what inevitably will become fandom info dump, this time on thomas astruc’s writing on miraculous ladybug. but only some of my opinions cuz we would be here all day otherwise.

So… a disclaimer before I begin… 

I do not hate Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir (yes i'm using their government name). I am quite a fan of the show actually despite its faults. I am also older than the intended audience but was obviously younger when the show first aired which is how my interest was piqued (the fact that its been 6 years and only 3 seasons says more about the show than me being a fan for that amount of time but also i never want to rush content creators cuz they're doing their best) and due to my age, there will be inherent bias in my approach of what i'm about to say as there is in EVERY opinion. The fact that it is an opinion should imply the presence of bias but most people tend to lack the critical thinking skills required to draw that conclusion ANYWAYS…

If I did hate the show I would not have this blog nor would I be even writing this because i tend to not give more than 2 seconds of thought to things i actively dislike (some of yall should give this a try) and i'm allowed to like things that are designed for an audience that i was originally a part of but grew out of. (I don't suddenly stop liking things because I'm older despite what many younger fans seem to believe about older audiences. I also don't need to be ‘allowed’ to do anything cuz i wasn't asking for permission anyways.)

This will not be character bashing, astruc bashing nor fandom bashing cuz, again, that would imply i hate any of those elements and if i did, i would not dedicate brainpower to them. Analyses and criticisms of media are fun and engaging and required if you wish to produce good enjoyable content. Now most of this should be already assumed and self-explanatory but people on the internet like to play morality roulette roll dice on purity culture and I rather have documentation that I am in fact not bullying fictional 14 year olds or a grown man. But alas, people get trigger happy whenever someone has less than 1000000% positive opinions on something they like and will throw out words they can't define (gaslight, baiting, toxic, problematic, gatekeep etc) in an attempt to defend their blind devotion, 

which is not needed, if you like something you never have to defend it, even if i don't like it. If you respond to anything I post saying you disagree with me, I will not argue with you. I won't debate back and forth and try to convince you that the things you like are wrong. Unless you are being absolutely tone deaf to what i'm saying, you wont get a negative reaction from me. So don't try to fish for a fight. Please. I got metaphorical hands for days and I'm mean, you don't want me hurting your feelings on the internet. Do yourself the favour. Difference of opinion is how we get diversification in media and is inherently a good thing. Now that that's out of the way, please don't ever let me have to say that again. I beg.

Now onto the fun stuff

I didn't know what I wanted as a first topic so my trusty internet friend @moonlitceleste suggested astruc’s writing… 

AND BOI do i got some opinions on ole tommy boi. Again I don't hate the dude. In fact, he has worked on a few shows that had defined my childhood, including but not limited to W.I.T.C.H. (all eps available on youtube for those interested, 2 seasons, general fun time all around).

So I don't think he’s scum of the earth but I do think his approach to writing mlb specifically has more misses than hits.

The first big miss is that he has no idea how to write 14 year old girls. At all. Almost every girl he has ever written feels like some terrible archetype built entirely for marketability and childish projection and pubescent self-insert (kind of). He has never been a 14 year old girl. I have. In fact when the show first aired, I WAS around the (assumed) age of the mlb characters. The behaviour he passes off as quirky or awkward or just the character’s genuine personality tend to perpetuate harmful stereotypes of teen girls found in the media and are never actually addressed as harmful. they just get swept under the rug. Marinette’s exuberant collage of teen heart throb model boi Adrien Agreste and her very painful almost fan worship she has of him (which flip flops like a paper sandal in the rain) being portrayed as a cute school girl crush uwu, Chloe being the y7 Regina George, Alya being the token best friend of colour with her ‘sassy’ personality (i want y'all to imagine me eyerolling so hard i bust a vessel in my eye), Kagami being the very damaging Perfect Asian Child stereotype. And before y'all get on your dusty soap box and defend going on about “BUT IT'S FOR CHILDREN”,,,, know this.

 i don’t give a solid fuck. 

Not one. 

Children arent stupid. Children are always going to remember the richy bitchy blonde who bullies the art kid, and the big kid, and the shy kid, and the non white kids, and was only nice to her equally rich white friend who she probably had a crush on or was only ever civil to her equally white lapdog. They're going to remember the half asian girl who was never allowed to actually be asian or the only black girl who existed solely as a soundboard for enabling bad habits or chastising the main character for the same habits she enables in the first place (boi aint THAT a topic for later). Like do i really need to explain that alya chastising marinette for taking max’s spot in gamer just to play with adrien rings absolutely hollow when she actively encourages her to sabotage the contest she’s in just so Kagami doesn't win?? Like I don't have to explain that right?? Again kids arent stupid and its quite something that Mari gets chastised for proving herself the best video game player regardless of her intentions just cuz it comes at the expense of max’s feelings/ego but is actively encouraged to sabotage not only kagami but herself by extension cuz kagami is ‘competition.’ Adrien is not a trophy to be won. And no I don't expect 14 yrs old to be perfect and to always make good decisions but these decisions are never addressed as being bad decisions. they get swept under the rug cuz those decisions were necessary for the ‘plot’ but astruc can barely keep characterization consistent and his characters suffer for it and it's the same children you preach are watching it that suffer as well. Cuz guess what? I KNOW 14 yr olds aren't like that cuz i've been there done that (this is the last time i'm saying that i promise) so I know astruc is just metaphorically throwing darts to figure out who says and does what without consideration for pre established personalities to drive the stalemate plot along. The same kids you say are watching this don't know that that's not how preteens work and will absorb and internalize those dynamics like baking soda and vinegar. Cata-fucking-strophically. 

And I haven't even gotten to the boys yet. Which honestly doesn't require much explanation anyways cuz they suffer the same fate as the girls. Tired archetypes with nothing to give them life. Nino falls into Adrien’s person of colour token best friend who dates the female lead’s person of colour token best friend so they can have cute double dates uwu. Except the plot goes nowhere and we have no inclination of romantic development beyond moments that only act to actively convince me to anti ship the lovesquare (i don't want to do that so i self indulge in fanon that actually cares about the characters and plot. may i interest you in True Sight on AO3?). Max is the residential nerd but it doesn't matter (cuz he and everyone are dumbed down for the sake of ‘plot’), kim is the sports jock (which interestingly subverts the asian comedic relief stereotype but only barely) and luka is cute older guy ™ that wears black nail polish and is in a band. The point of all this is to say there is no depth in the characters. It's especially blatantly obvious with the characters astruc doesn't like (chloe). Again, it being a show for kids is not an excuse to be absolved of putting effort into the characters you make.

This is one of the biggest misses astruc has. I haven't even gone into all the nuances of this particular miss. And i havent gone into how that works against him in the plot either. Mostly because the plot itself hasn't gone anywhere and partially because I wanted to go into the plot (or lack thereof) separately as its own miss. 

AND BOI is it a miss. 

SO home boy astruc wanted to reap the benefits of a serial show with ‘engaging’ plot without putting in any of the work to make a linear storyline and relying on the episodic format for, again, marketability. You can't have the best of both worlds, you are not Avatar: The Last Airbender. Which btw has a lot less episodes and a desired end goal that didn't involve top dollar. Legend of Korra did but that's not the point and it had its failings with that too. I challenge you, tell me how many episodes actually contribute towards a plot point or introduce new thematic elements to the show? Can you name them? I can and I'm going to include the plot points that moved the story in some direction if only temporarily. Yes only temporarily for some of these and i will explain later. (if you're in the server you already saw this list *wink*)

25/26. Origins- self explanatory, the beginning of the story, 

24. Volpina- introduction of the grimoire and Master Fu (kind of) and no, Lila is not a plot point,

28. The Collector- proper introduction of Master Fu,

37. Sapotis- introduction of Rena Rouge,

41. Syren- introduction of new aquatic power ups,

44. Anansi- introduction of Carapace,

47. Frozer- introduction of new ice power ups,

48/49. Style Queen- introduction of Queen Bee,

51/52. Heroes’ Day- introduction of Mayura and mass akumatization,

66. Startrain- introduction of Pegasus,

67. Kwami Buster- Marinette wears multiple miraculouses,

68. Feast- backstory as to how the miraculouses were lost,

69. Ikari Gozen- introduction of Ryuko,

70. Timetagger- introduction of Bunnyx,

71. Party Crasher- introduction of Roi Singe and Viperion,

73. Chat Blanc- alternate timeline that essentially means nothing but got a reaction out of fans anyways (myself included)

 77/78. Love Eater/Battle of Miraculous- Marinette becomes guardian and other heroes lose their miraculous,

New York Special- other heroes exist and there is an American miraculous box,

That's 21 episodes. 21 out of a heaping 78 plus 2 specials. Everything else was just your typical akuma of the day episode and everything that happened outside that had no lasting consequences on the plot thanks to the miraculous status quo. Was it entertaining to watch Lila stir the plot of the class dynamic? Hell yeah. Too bad it meant nothing by the end of the episode cuz we were struck with miraculous status quo. She literally doesn't appear again until Heroes Day. that is from episodes 25 all the way to 51, she means nothing and yet she is treated with the severity of a b-villain/rival thing. She means nothing by the end of Volpina if I'm being honest. She is only relevant for 20 mins of episode time she’s in then it's back to magic status quo that undoes any shift in dynamics and relationships. It's like Spongebob who can't get his driver’s license. The worst part is I actually like Lila and I wish the story treated her with the seriousness we as an audience are expected to treat her with. Despite being painfully inconsequential by the end of each of the 3?? 4?? episodes she’s in, it's entertaining to watch a character create drama just because. 

Too bad it means nothing.

Astruc is constantly building up suspense to something ‘important’ only for it to not deliver and fans are constantly having the rug pulled out from under us. Oblivio teased us with a reveal only that gets undone cuz memory akuma. Chat Blanc teased us with romantic development but that gets undone cuz time travel bullshit. Feast introduced more miraculous lore and the history of the guardians but that means nothing by the next episode or ever (i'm not including any reference to the season 4 trailer cuz i've been around the block a few times and im familiar with this lil dancy dance). Heroes Day teased us with a possible future team of heroes but that gets undone in Battle of Miraculous cuz ????? why?? (here's why; astruc was having a jolly ole time letting us know how irredeemable Chloe is at the expense of shooting his own stagnant plot in the foot. Again, discussion for later.)

Too bad anything that slightly swerves off course from the akuma of the day gets undone or ignored. Too bad nothing has any lasting consequence. I mean, if anything did, the episodes would have had a consistent order and release schedule so im not scrambling to watch the leaked ep in Portuguese or something while the french dub is two episodes behind while the english version hasnt even been dubbed. I really wonder how he plans to conclude the show when he’s so afraid to step out of the corner he painted himself in.

Again, not going into nuances. If you want you can ask for more specifics (i doubt anyone would) but this is really just a slightly detailed general overview of my opinions on astruc’s writing. 

I was going to include another miss in his approach to this show but imma save that for another time.

rant thats gonna go all over the place but since it touches briefly on why i dont feel personally vibe w dimtri/dedue and edelgard/hubert PLUS something an anon said to me months ago that ive been mulling on its going under the cut. but overall its more just me talking aloud about the weird relationship people have media having problematic aspects. 

the thing is this website has an incredibly. strange and complicated relationship with the idea of something being problematic. i remember feeling utterly bemused when some anoned me a message thanking me for not calling dimitri/dedue problematic in my post saying why i personally just didnt vibe with the pairing. 

and the thing is. i KNOW the language bro. i can spin you a post that gives a reading of that relationship that makes an argument for problematic aspects in that kind of romantic relationship or even just in the writing choices that were made. i can talk about how i feel extremely uncomfortable with a romantic relationship between those two characters or edelgard/hubert because the devotion these men have to their respective lieges IS examined as something that damages the overall quality of their emotional health because being devoted to a person to that extent DOES THAT TO YOU. and i dont personally feel comfortable with that. 

i can write make an argument for that being a problematic aspect to the pairings but you know what? even if i totally felt that way about them or that that idea was completely true, EVEN IF WE COULD SUPPORT THAT READING THROUGH EVERY LINE IN THE SCRIPT, that tells me nothing about the actual people that enjoy those ships????? 

it’s tells me as much about those people as their favourite idk fruit. 

because i KNOW what that anon was actually saying was “oh thank god you didnt call me a Bad Person for enjoying that ship”

for one, i think people need to make their peace with the fact that literally any piece of media will have problematic aspects to it and can STILL have enjoyable aspects to it or even - yes i know lmao - arististic value. and oftentimes not everyone is even going to agree on how much of either fkshfkjd

jane eyre is one of my favourite books and it’s RIDDEN with underlying racist ideas. or to bring the convo back to the topic we’re familair with: for example, the way sylvains is written has him be misogynystic to women when, by the logic of what the writing is trying to convey (a charater that lashes out against and knowingly hurts people due to deep trust issues)  the guy should be equally distrusting of men, if for different reasons. and yknow what? i didnt even realise this until i saw someone else point it out! i completely didnt even realise that problematic aspect to his writing and yet what does that tell YOU about ME as a person? what can u say with certainty about me, user clouiis on tumblr dot com, when i still honestly enjoy him as a character even WITH that misogynystic writing. 

i KNOW my reaction to those ships is just personal (and not even consistent with how ive felt about darker themes in different media) because hey guess what! i love nbc hannibal and that show has a FAR more mutually destructive and harmful relationship being explored and explicitly talked about in both the characters povs as romantic. so i know myself, i KNOW how i feel about edelgard/hubert and dimitri/dedue is just a personal vibe and even now im not sure why it bothers me so much when something worse doesnt. and yknow what? sometimes it IS just a purely personal reaction, or belies deeper internalised thoughts. idk! i havent unravelled it all yet!

minor detour but even on TOP of my personal interpretation of the pairings, it’s just one reading. it’s the perspective of ONE person and you make effective arguments against my own example! hell ill do it myself! for dimitri/dedue specifically, their supports explicitly tackle and address the power imbalance between them and it’s made very clear by their A support that these characters mutually long for that power imbalance to be dismantled and WONT advance their complicated relationship further UNTIL they can do that. i can make that argument and yet emotionally still feel uncomfortable w it! thats just how it be sometimes!

both that argument and my original one can be supported by the text. thats often just how literary analysis GOES. and youll find there’s weaknesses in BOTH stances i made, perspectives i havent accounted for or even thought of! 

this is a whole rant that went nowhere but i hope some of my general vibe is coming across somewhat fkjdshfkjd

Give me your romance drama recs / drama update

I’m in the mood for a romance drama but am kind of stumped on what I should watch, so PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR RECS!  It can be kdrama, jdrama, cdrama (just maybe not contemporary cdrama since those really aren’t my bag), whatever.  Or even a period English piece.  I’m watching Do You Like Brahms? and really enjoying that so I wouldn’t mind something similar.  Of course, I am also down for something more adult/steamy.  Dysfunction is fine but it needs to have a happy ending.  I guess I’m feeling kind of sappy.  The key is that I want to swoon/feel those butterflies.  

To kind of give you an idea of what I’ve watched/am watching:

Currently Watching

Do You Like Brahms? - LOVE LOVE LOVE.  Slice of life and sweet romance done right.  When Song Ah and Joon Young smile at each other, I smile along with them.  Adorable and sweet without being twee.  An undercurrent of melancholy without being morose/a kill joy.

My Beautiful Bride - I’m loving this and highly recommend it for anyone who likes thrills, action, and a HOT  male lead single-mindedly devoted to his otp, who will go to the ends of the earth to be with her.  He literally lives only to make his otp happy.  While his love for her is what drives the plot of the story, this isn’t necessarily a romance drama.  I mean, sure, I swoon and my heart flutters when I see him beat a group of gangsters to a bloody pulp with nothing but his fists and a key.  And trust me when I say my hormones rage like crazy whenever he’s onscreen.  But I’m looking for a more ordinary kind of love story to add to my roster of dramas.  My Beautiful Bride is like two straight shots of the strongest whiskey in a shady dive bar - it’s intense, exciting, and totally gets me amped up.  However, sometimes I need a break from the Johnnie Walker and slight sense of danger and want a nice, soothing, cup of warm tea instead. 

Cruel City/Heartless City - So I know I just said I needed to mellow out my current watch list but I just LOVE this drama.  It’s got a great otp but again, its main focus is not romance.  Although, it does have one of the hottest kiss scenes in recent years.  If you thought Jung Kyung Ho was nothing but a lanky, beta, weenie, this drama will totally change your mind.  Plus, this is a re-watch so I don’t have to pay attention to everything.

Finished

Flower of Evil - I fully expected to not like this drama before it started because of the terribly misleading promos.  The only reason I checked it out was because I liked Moon Chae Won and Lee Jun Ki.  And boy am I glad I did!  I love me a devoted otp who also stop to take the time to make out.  The way Ji Won saved Hyun Su by just being herself and loving him and the way Hyun Su devotes his entire life to taking care of Ji Won and being a good husband to her - *chef’s kiss*.  OH, also, Kim Ji Hoon’s glorious long hair.  

My Unfamiliar Family - I don’t usually watch family dramas, but this was a nice little surprise.  The romance was sweet.  The healing family trauma aspect was heartwarming and done very well.  Not overwrought at all.  Some of the red herrings/misleading endings threw me a loop but overall, I enjoyed how they resolved the misunderstandings and conflict.  The re-discovery of love between the parents was nice to watch.  Really easy and enjoyable watch with a great slowburn friends to lovers pairing.  I identified with the female lead a bit too much sometimes heh.  Fun fact: The actor playing the dad also played the king in The King and the Clown who was obsessed with Lee Jun Ki’s character.

Dropped

When I Was the Most Beautiful / When I Was the Prettiest - This drama was so disappointing, it kind of upset me to be honest.  The first two episodes started off so promising.  My early 2000s dysfunctional jdrama with questionable teacher/student relationships loving ass thought I was finally getting a return to the good ol’ days (before anyone says anything, no, I do not condone teacher/student relationships in real life).  I mean, they had Ji Soo, the king of playing high school students with impossible one-sided crushes who you want to root for, playing a high school student with a one-sided crush on his art student-teacher.  We also had renowned hottie Ha Suk Jin playing his older brother and Im Soo Hyang playing the woman in between the two hot brothers.  It had all the makings of a wonderful throwback to the old school dramas. But instead, we got stuck with whatever the hell this drama is.  Anyway, disappointing!

The Merchant: Gaekju - I love Jang Hyuk.  I love sageuks.  I love Jang Hyuk in sageuks.  But this story just wasn’t working for me and there was not enough shirtless Jang Hyuk to keep my attention.

Kinda Watching On/Off

Me Too, Flower!  - An old drama that I randomly picked up because I wanted to watch something with Yoon Shi Yoon.  I am only watching this because of the Yoon Shi Yoon-Lee Ji Ah pairing because frankly, the rest of the drama kinda bores me.  Something I put on after work when I don’t want to be too involved/don’t need to concentrate too much.

Angry Mom - I started re-watching portions of this drama because of how pissed off I was about When I Was the Most Beautiful and the disappointment I felt when I foudn out Kim Hee Sun was playing Joo Won’s mom instead of lover in Alice (although from the looks of the posts in the tag, maybe she’s gonna be both? hahaha).  This is Ji Soo’s break out role and for good reason.  His crush on Kim Hee Sun’s undercover high school student mom is adorable and not creepy at all because (1) He doesn’t know she’s an ahjumma (a bit of suspension of disbelief is required for this drama because no matter how great KHS looks, high school student she is not); and (2) it’s completely one-sided and not reciprocated by KHS at all.  Sigh, I just want to watch KHS in a hot noona romance and Ji Soo in a good romance where (1) he gets the girl and (2) the plot is not completely asinine.

Stopped Watching but Really Need to Return to 

Ever Night S1 - Ok, I literally have less than 10 episodes left of this drama but for some reason I keep on putting it off.  I have a real problem finishing dramas I love.  Aside from the fact that I get easily distracted and hop from one drama to the next quite often, I think it’s also because I don’t want the drama to end.  I know there’s a second season, but it just doesn’t seem the same.  Anyway, I should just buck up and finish this drama already.

Novoland Eagle Flag - I took a break because the angst was just non-stop and I needed something a bit lighter. 

Six Flying Dragons - I binged like 10 episodes one day and took a break to give my poor eyes and brain a rest.  Then, in true me fashion, I got distracted by some other drama and now I can’t remember where I left off.

Mr. Sunshine - I love Lee Byung Hun as an actor and I am also a big fan of Byun Yo Han.  This is also the hottest Yoo Yeon Suk has ever looked to me.  But I kind of lost interest when it became apparent that all three male leads were going to be in love with the female lead.  I like the female lead just fine but it’s kind of annoying how everybody is in love with her.  I know this is a quality drama but honestly, I don’t think I will return to this unless I have nothing more interesting to watch.

Yoooo me too, I was dubious on the first one but then second came and I was just welp. That’s it, I’m done for.

“The chariot: bam vs data zahard/jahad!! that battle was thematically gorgeous imo, zahard had that whole solar system thing with his powers, and bam starts pulling out his own 25th bam style shinsu moves (im so proud of him!!!!!!) with the whole night and endless sky theme, with his red-blue demon horns and his wings,,,,, like damn i was so starstruck bam my dear boy you are beAUTIFUL \(*o*)/”

Okay but that whole battle, I think, was a HUGE turning point for Bam’s increase in abilities. The fact that we went from earthen-bound power titles to CELESTIAL ONES just upped the ante.

“Strength: bam!! obviously he is strong in terms of combat ability but mostly i think about this in terms of,, strength of character? the external pressures in bam’s life are very heavy but he’s not the type to run away, and he really does manage to stay “himself” even as he changes and grows. i think that’s incredibly strong and inspiring of him, i could never do that :’)”

I’m sure Bam never thought he could do it either. The thing is, he was forced to. He never had a choice. If you don’t have a choice, maybe you’d surprise yourself with how you grow as a person. ^^

OHHHH GOOD POINT. Khun reflects all of our feelings about Bam. Huh, that’s a good thing to reflect on. 

“Justice: and idk if it’s just me but i haven’t been able to stop seeing it since rachel talked about fate or being a heroine or whatever. bam really does feel like a “chosen one”. the plot just keeps building up and moving forward, and things keep coming together, whether bam wants it to or not. it feels like something inevitable, like “fate” (i think siu does a good job of making rachel seem like bam’s opposite, it feels like shes not really supposed to be part of the bigger plot?)”

SIU is AMAZING at foreshadowing stuff like this. He has a way of--even if he never quite thought of it before--making it seem like all of this was meant to happen in some way. Yes, no one tied to the tower meant for Rachel to be part of the story, but her presence was supposed to be from the very beginning, simply because SIU willed it.

I love that your love for ToG was slowburn rather than love at first sight. :3  The fact that you stuck it out is admirable and shows that there’s tidbits that made it worth sticking with ToG, until the irresistible temptation turned into genuine adoration.  AND I’M GLAD YOU STUCK IT OUT!!!

All in all, brilliant episode. 10/10 would watch again, despite giant exploding guts.

It was great, especially what they did with Rod Reiss 120 meters Titan. I feel this was executed better than the manga. Hopefully, WIT Studio continues this way with season 3 and the next seasons of Attack on Titan.

Drastically! The people of Paradis would have their minds wiped, except for Mikasa and Levi. Historia would become a slave to the First King's "hide behind the walls" ideology. The SC would be disbanded and Erwin executed. So the whole island would be doomed when Marley invade again, and take Historia with the Founding Titan power away.

All the walldians would have died since there would be no way for the Survey Corps to take the Founding Titan and Attack Titan back from Historia or Rod Reiss and when the marleyans would have inevitably attacked, the walldians would have been erased from the face of the earth. Historia would have been controlled by the will of the First King and mind-wiped everyone. But not all things are lost. Levi and Mikasa would still be there, having all of their memories intact. Mikasa and Historia would have had a huge confrontation, with Mikasa almost killing Historia for eating Eren, but in the end, she can't bring over herself to kill her because Eren is ""alive"" within Historia now. Mikasa's liege to Eren will be slowly turning into a desire to protect Historia at all cost.

That's actually a great idea. Knowing where the author decided to take the plot, it wouldn't have worked, of course, but I would've loved to see the rest of the 104th taking over the story after Eren's death.

Overall this question is difficult to answer because it creates a Senario with multiple different senarios within it. For example will historia become queen or remain in the scouts? It's just too difficult because of the different potential timelines created from this alternate event.

The fate of the Survey Corps would come into question and that would become the focus of the story.

Beautiful animation, but I hope the next ep fills me with feels. I feel incredibly lackluster about Historia and her characterization this arc.

I always wondered in the manga how titan Rod didn't splatter his intestines on the Walls even without a skin. Like, it felt all too much clean, so anime made sense and a bit of splatter never hurt nobody! But with that scene, why WIT censors things like Levi killing humans??? They quite contradict themselves lol

Storyboards were handled by the man who storyboarded End of Eva and the Rebuilds, huh? Certainly paid off. I don't think his input was limited to storyboarding either, while easy to miss the first time around, Rod's agonized scream as he dies after Historia sees his memories is pretty disturbing and haunting. Very good stuff.

I'm sure that a lot of people will write about the battle against the Rod's titan and about Historia, so I will skip it. I have really nothing to add here except the fact that I really loved how strong, brave and mature Historia was in this episode.

Historia taking down her father gave me so many feels! I can't wait to see her get crowned and then punch Levi, he had such a heartwarming smile!

Historia is sooo fucking badass. I love Eren so much God bless his soul.

Something about the anime didn't quite hit the mark, particularly in regards to the scene of Eren noticing the 3 kids and Armin giving him the pep talk. It's practically panel for panel, but the feel was just different somehow.

Physics class is less than halfway through, the voice of his teacher droning on and on about some concept, and already does he feel like opening the nearest window and jumping out, broken bones be damned. His grades are more than fine though, normally he pays enough attention to seem like the outstanding student that he is, but right now he doesn't give a rat's ass about any of that. It's just that he's thinking a lot lately...about angry snarls, porcelain skin, red hair...

Yeah, fuck Guan Shan for being a distraction. A very pleasant one, if He Tian might add. Damn if he gives a shit about being distracted in class. On the contrary, anything that keeps him off from the redhead is a nuisance. The scrape of the chalk, the humming of the A/C, the soft pitter patter of the rain outside...everything is exceedingly dull next to the redhead's vitality.

He watches Guan Shan, who was seated near the front, as he discreetly moves to check the message he received. He Tian can almost see the scowl that twists on the other boy's face. Guan Shan replies almost automatically.

He intentionally sends the messages one by one, for good effect. Guan Shan hurriedly picks his phone out again, obviously annoyed by the consecutive vibrations. Even from his position, He Tian can see the angry way Guan Shan's hands types on his phone.

Cute. He Tian was about to type his reply when suddenly the teacher cleared her throat and made a snide remark about "a certain rude student who's using his phone, how dare he waste time in attending school classes, he should just leave the room for being an ungrateful child".

He Tian barely stopped himself from chuckling audibly. One, he was absolutely floored by her dramatics. And two, despite being the instigator, he was definitely not the one being scolded, judging by the very nasty glare that the teacher is giving the redhead. He guesses that the other boy must be seething at him right now.

Ah damn. The dumbass called it. He Tian sighed, his amusement being incredibly short-lived. He knows Guan Shan will try a fight with him later, for getting him in trouble when it wasn't even his fault or shit, whatever. Literally anything that Guan Shan throws at his way is very amusing for him, threats that the redhead is too scared to follow through, his redundant insults, gritted teeth, clenched fists.

He enjoys riling the other up, can't help but eagerly watch every reaction he makes at all of his provocations. Can't help but catch his pale wrists almost too naturally, arms straining to hit and escape from him at the same time. Can't help but tease, and anger, and aggravate the other boy at any opportunity. He finds some sort of absurd enjoyment in that.

But damn, He Tian knows himself. Really, he can't deny the emotions that threaten to bubble out from inside, there's no use in pretending it doesn't exist. He knows what it is, he knows what it means to dream about bony hips underneath his fingertips, slim legs spread out on his black sheets, red strands the shade of sunsets and persimmons, all drenched from perspiration. He doesn't feel sick at the realization of it, not at all, but only sick satisfaction at every release he reaches. Guilt and embarrassment do not come to him, and He Tian laughs mirthlessly, at how fuckin unashamed he was being.

Yeah, he wants Guan Shan. He wants Guan Shan under his fists, under his caresses. Fuck if he knows which. Maybe both at the same time. Not that he isn't giving enough nonverbal cues for the other boy to pick up, fuck if that idiot still doesn't get it.

For now he waits and bids his time. There's a strange feeling from his gut at the prospect of revealing himself to the redhead. Is that fear?  He's not sure if he feels apprehensive from finding out what the other boy might think, or if he feels hesitant to speak his desires into existence.

It's all fun and games until you tell him you wanna push him down on your bed and do this and that.

Minutes tick by and the bell rings, relief washing over the class almost tangibly. He Tian stands and quickly strides to reach the redhead, ignoring the incessant calls of the girls behind him.

He slings an arm around Guan Shan's shoulder, pressing down heavily so he can't budge.

"Get the fuck off me, He Tian!"

Finn: His "fanclub"? Well, it is true people take a liking to my uncle rather quickly, but I've yet to see him reciprocate any such affections. If this "club" is anything official I would like to be its president though, to guide others of course. I may find someone who could get along with him, he really ought to settle down one of these days!

Finn: Hmm... from the beginning they have been more outgoing than me, I must admit I am a bit envious of that. But the Vengaboys have brought out a lot in me already, I think.

Ezra: never, but he didn't always have the string, he told me he slapped it on because he had that exact problem. Cole: I've only ever seen em' with that string so he’s never really lost em'... though one time he broke them and i had to help him around the store for a week until a friend of his could fix them, its the grumpiest ive ever seen him [ she makes a face like this :y and laughs ]

Psalm: I'm not fond of bright colours (for my nails at least), so black is my favourite. I've never really tried out anything else, but maybe I should, just for a change of pace.

Keva: do i like having them or do i like when other people have them what are you asking Rokka: (points at keva) what she said Psalm: Yes, I do have them after all.

Psalm: Not unlike er-, "body maintenance". At least in my case I don't do anything particularly special. Cimmorro: mine are too small to have any need for maintenance. i consider it a lucky thing since it’s less things to worry about.

Psalm: That's an interesting question. While I'm not that well versed in the specifics of tiefling anatomy, I do know that keeping warm isn't really an issue for me whenever it gets cold, so I don't typically wear anything like socks.

Finn: I have plenty experience with staying at home. A lot of people might tell you to hone a skill or indulge in hobbies you have been neglecting and while that can be a productive use of your time, it is easier spoken than done, no? I recommend, if you are allowed, to seek out quiet places without many people around. That way you do not endanger yourself or anyone else in these trying times. Keva: hot Han: cold!! honestly its too hot in shorewater... i never thought i would miss snow Rokka: more warm than hot......but if i had to choose between the two then it would be cold Finn: I've been preferring cold weather as of late. Psalm: I'll save time and just say that they're mostly positive. Finn: My hometown is okay. Could be better. :/ Cimmorro: i like my hometown. i can’t imagine settling down anywhere else at the moment.

Rokka: yeah, they're neat! Lady bugs were my favourite when I was young. My Oathbringer Review

First of all, Oathbringer spoilers to follow. Second of all, I was sort of thinking about what I’d talk about in this while I was reading it, focusing mainly on some of the complaints, but then I reached the finale and it was great, and that really makes up for the flaws. Some of the flaws I have might be tradition sorta ‘sequel fatigue’ or that this is the first Stormlight Archive book that I am reading at release, and thus I have expectations for it. 

So, my biggest complaint for this book is that, compared to the other books in the Stormlight Archive so far is that it felt a lot less cohesive as a story. While the other books seemed, to me, to focus more on journies and progression up to events, this book felt more like a collection of events, rather than a journey. Some of the stuff ended up feeling stuffed in, or sort of out of place.

Granted, this is not for the whole book. The gang being transported to Shadesmar definitely felt more cohesive than other parts of the book, along with the SPECTACULAR finale. 

Shadesmar as a whole makes a lot more sense when we learn more about it and that it’s actually a nation/land filled with its own peoples, who just happen to live on another Realm of existence.

I also feel that Kaladin’s homecoming could have been better, it just seemed kinda underwhelming to me, and overshadowed by other events in the books. I feel that more time should have been devoted to that. 

Same with Jasnah’s homecoming. 

I really expected to see more about Malata and the Order of Dustbringers, but she only really ended up getting 2 scenes. 

At least Nin said he would be teaching Szeth about the Surge of Division, so that may give us a bit of secondhand insight into the Dustbringers. 

I know Brandon has said that Stormlight Archive (and his other current serieses) can be enjoyed individually and seperately from the cosmere, it really doesn’t feel that way with SA. Like, I can deal with Shards+Adonalsium being introduced early on in the series (as opposed to Mistborn) and with worldhoppers like Hoid, Vasher, Vivenna,etc…, but the real problem is with some of the chapter forewords. It’s great that they have ones about the Death Rattles, or the Mythica, or The Diagram, and so on, but my problem is the ones that are letters between Hoid and his associates, one of whom is apparently a dragon?! Like it’s hard to just enjoy SA as SA when you have cryptic information about a character who hasn’t been formally introduced yet talking with characters who haven’t been named yet (to the audience) talking about events we know very little about. Bad Analogy: It’s like saying we only need to pay attention to the actors onstage, but occasionally we can see the theater techs moving around in the back and occasionally one of them will come onstage and tell us about their day. It just seems counterproductive. It’s not like a big problem for me, but it does kind of grate on me. 

Overall, while the book was really great, it’s not really as good, in my opinion, as the other Stormlight Archive books. While I was originally writing this as reading, I had it at 8/10, but the finale was so good and well written that I’ve bumped it up to 9/10. And I guess this is sort of a good revelation, that while the Stormlight Archive and the Cosmere books are great, and form parts of great serieses, not every one is 10/10. 

Well, that’s it for complaints time to move on to what I loved about it, such as the finale/climax! It was so good! Honestly, I really reeally liked it though I guess I don’t really have anything specific to say other than I immensely loved the “I am Unity” line so much, and loved the resemblance it had to the iconic “I am hope”. Now I wish I could do art of both those scenes right next to each other. 

but if they ever met im pretty sure Kelsier and Dalinar would absolutely hate each other 

My boy Szeth!!! At first I though he got done a dirty since he didn’t appear in the first 3 parts, but he appeared in the 4th and he was so good! And Nightblood and Lift, all 3 of them have great chemistry.

Also, he can ice skate?! That’s amazing?! I don’t know what to do with this information?!

Amaram is such an awful (in a good way) villain, and he could not have turned into a cooler one. Dual wielding Shardblades, crystals jutting out of him, partially possessed, and having a dramatic conversation with the hero, A+

Azure was really cool, and I’m pretty proud of myself for figuring out she was Vivenna early on. 

I really liked the Kaza interlude. I’m a fan of the SA interludes in general, and while some of the ones in Oathbringer were different, this one really stuck out.

Gosh I hope Rysn is okay. 

There was a lot more that I liked, but these were the ones that stuck out most to me. And while I wouldn’t exactly call some of my complaints minor, none of them are deal breakers or huge problems for me, and didn’t really hurt my enjoyment of the book or series overall. 

Personal complaint: While I was fine with how Shallan/Adolin ended up, I will admit I kinda preferred Shallan/Kaladin, but that’s just really a matter of opinion.
