A little kid and his mother are trick or treating in another city, perhaps at some kind of event rather than knocking on doors, and the kid is dressed as Phantom. It’s very adorable, with his little ghost-shaped bucket and clearly homemade and already stained costume—listen, white only works if you can just fly over street grime or phase it out of your clothes—and his slightly I’ll fitting wig. The kid is SO happy to be out and about dressed as his favorite, and maybe even showed it off to Phantom back in Amity Park before his family left.

The hero, insert whoever you wish here, is probably in civvies and just enjoying the event. The kid, meanwhile, is so glad when people ask who he is so he can explain, and so- the hero gets to hear ALL ABOUT the local town hero who is probably pretty small time despite the kid’s clearly exaggerated stories. The hero certainly never heard of him, but the kid’s mom confirms that Phantom really was the town hero, despite some mixed reviews of the poor guy.

“Did you manage to show him your costume?” the hero asks.

“Yeah! We went down to the cemetery to leave flowers and I got to show him my costume.”

Wait. Cemetery? Maybe it was part of theme, because Phantom had to be named that for a reason, but… it sounded like…

The kid ignores the suddenly VERY still hero and instead turns to his mom. “Momma, do you think we should bring him candy? He doesn’t get to trick or treat like we do, and I can work super hard to get him a bunch!”

The kid’s mom just smiles. “We could, but maybe we should bring him something homemade. I bet he’d like something more filling, teen boys like him have a hollow leg.”

The kid wrinkles his nose. “Like Vernie with the pizza bagels?”

“Like your cousin, yes. We can make some cinnamon rolls and take them to his memorial, maybe bring some of the apples from your grandpa’s garden…”

The hero is pretty much forgotten as the two-part family wanders off, not quite intentionally forgetting the hero is there so much as the hero somewhat accidentally ended the conversation when they just froze and didn’t ask anything further.

Not that the hero didn’t want to. But they’d learn something very serious.

One—there was a small town hero they’d never heard of. Two—that hero was apparently a teen. Third—most pressingly, the teen hero was both beloved enough to have kids dressing up as him and dead enough to have a grave.

This… might require some phone calls.

And honestly I sat on this ask for a long time because y'all need to get more creative! Just because its not SOLD for that purpose doesn't mean you can't USE IT for that. I know being able to buy rainbow shit from Target is a sign of acceptance and that feels nice, but you really think gays didn't do pride before them? Are you really going to let it not being mass-produced by corporate stop you from showing your love?? Come on!

Just buy an earring pack from Claire's and split it between the polycule or friend group! Everyone gets a different color of teddy bear charm!🧸 Its cute, its obvious you all did it on purpose!

Or buy a matching set, keep the earrings, give the bracelet to one person and the necklace to the other!

And like, what happened to making things?? Even if you're not crafty enough to feel confident making things out of clay or doing actual beadwork (neither are as hard as you'd think, though!), Friendship bracelets are SO SIMPLE. You can VERY EASILY find patterns for hearts 💙and letters🔠 and make whatever you want in whatever colors you want for literally <$5 and a couple lunch breaks.

Not to mention, like, going to your nearest pet store, picking out the $20 dog tag that looks least like a dog tag (or not, if you're into it looking like a dog tag) -- then a custom engraving is free. You can do the "best friends" thing still! Or make it more personal with an inside joke or something! For a pretty reasonable amount of money for a gift! Mine even has a machine that handles all that so I don't have the awkward bit of explaining to a human person what I'm doing.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be NICE to see it in stores, of course. It would be nice! But with a little extra effort, we can make something way more heartfelt 💗 We actually have SO MANY options!! Don't let commercial limits bog you down!!

Ok so last Christmas I participated in the Käärijä Gift Exchange and my recipient was @cinder-rose and in the submission form there was a mention of Pokemon.

And I had one idea where Bojere meet up the week before christmas but Bojan loses his luggage again and turns up empty-handed, even his coat is missing, and it's pouring rain so he's soaking wet, and Jere warms him up and burritoes him in blankets and makes him drink hot chocolate gives him Charmander woolen socks that were meant for a christmas present. Or something.

I wrote a little piece of dialogue for it (this is not formatted in any way, just spitballing and Jere's English is not jere-fied but you get the gist):

So, yes and no.

@something-tofightfor & I co-write Aphelion, so we also co-edit that story. Rachael is also subjected to random snippets and sections of stories I’m working on, because I trust her to tell me if I’m on the right track or if something seems out of character or is/isn’t working.

But in terms of like a traditional beta reader who reads the whole thing before it’s posted? Nope! I just try to do a good, thorough edit, and then I fling it into the universe with reckless abandon.

sometimes I share two games in common with friends I game with online so I'll see interactions where one person's like "what does 'add someone as a friend' do? does it have a function??" and then immediately after on another server they go "yeah I hate when the snorphoaguses attack, you gotta pad your snoofers and change platforms. Sometimes I use an ergonomic mouse to improve reflexes but honestly the rng just gets you sometimes." Idk there's just something very lovely about that, how not knowing stuff doesn't mean you don't know anything and vice versa, and how people can forget basic concepts when faced with a confusing buttons

(the friend bit IS genuinely a good question though because the only thing adding a friend in the game does is bookmark someone so you can trade with them easier, or enabling PMs when they add you if that's restricted- but there wasn't a mutual approval process! so it was very much like a "wtf is this broken" moment. Even to know that much you'd have to be able to find the friend list hidden in the user settings panel aka where you change your password so it sort of just looks like it changes absolutely nothing. And yet it also objectively sounds like something data from star trek would say which makes it really funny out of context.)

So like the other day i found out that my country and also my school district had gifted kid programs, only four people in my class at the time got tested for gifted, and i'm just going absolutely insane over it.

My class at the time had basically everyone in the same group and then a couple of outcasts-- it pisses me off soooo sosososo much that only the "top four smartest girls" in the main group got tested. I'm so mad. I feel like everyone else was personally failed by those teachers.

-what about the outcasts who are clearly "not normal"? Giftedness is supposed to be o special need, 2e kids are even more in need of help to feel normal

-what about the kids who were so smart that they were just completely fucking bored and checked out of class? The ones who didn't participate because they knew too much and got bored too easily?

Literally what about like, everyone who wasn't given the opportunity to be tested, the space to be told "you can be accepted for the differences in your brain"? I am just so mad at these teachers and i know, out of those thirty people, four who got tested, three who passed, and at least two who should have been allowed the test, who i feel were given up on by the people who should have wanted to help them. Ostracized not only by their peers but also by their teachers for being "too weird", not fitting in, when the point was! To make these kids fit in and succeed. I'm so mad
