It's almost literally the same story. :D One you get songs and talking mice; in the other you get the addition of a dead mother and a tree. But either way, you get a fairy godmother, mice into horses, pumpkin into a coach, and glass slippers, et. al
ROUND 3A, MATCH 1 OUT OF 4
*Includes the original 1950 animated film, the 2002 sequel Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, and the 2007 sequel Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
**Includes Grimm Brothers and Charles Perrault tales.
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Disney Animated:
she is very iconic, she is super kind and has a beautiful dress
Submitting specifically because Cinderella III: A Twist in Time has lived rent-free in my head ever since I was a small child.
This Cinderella is most young (western) peoples introduction to this very story. Cinderella is so hopeful and by getting one small magical adventure, her whole life changes for the better. She is skilled and inspires such loyalty with her kindness that it’s hard to dislike her for any reason she gives. I’ve always been jealous of her ball hairdo too.
Walt Disney put all he had into this movie. And his favorite animation was the dress transformation scene. There’s a reason she is often front and center on the Princess group promotions.
she is the original. to me. probably the first exposure to cinderella for a solid chunk of people alive & on tumblr today. she is just a perfect encapsulation of everything that cinderella is, even if she's become warped in the public consciousness. also i'm pretty sure she's the reason why the glass slippers are so predominant in more recent retellings bc she is simply so iconic. 100/10 no notes 💜
She's maybe not the OG OG but she was one of the first animated Disney princesses and strangely enough it doesn't stop her from having an amazing personality. She's literally a slave but keeps being a nice person, forgiving and always doing her best. And the sequels absolutely didn't ruin her character. She's a sweet girl who tries to fit in but who's loyal to the person she is and who tries to change things always in a cute and sweet way to show people it's not that hard. She literally forgave Anastasia and tried to help her after all she did to her (the scene where the step-sisters destroy her dress still is terrifying to me)... she's awesome and deserves more recognition honestly...
(Mod's note: the following submitted specifically for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, but I condensed the animated movies into one entry.) No she is not the same as the original Cinderella of 1950. This girl’s biggest chance was unfairly snatched away from her. When the Prince was brainwashed she was enough to get him to double take. She was so Right that their connection over powered magic. And she had to be rescued from a ship. And was almost crushed within a pumpkin! And finally had to expose another imposter, who turned out to be just another victim of Lady Trameine. This Cinderella fought harder for her love because she knew what True Love was like and she still was able to forgive those who asked for it.
(Mod's note: the following submitted specifically for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, but I condensed the animated movies into one entry.) Listen yes it's the same Cinderella from 1950 but she has an arc in this one! It's Disney's greatest film!!
Listen I love them both but the animated Cinderella definitly shine in every single movie she has. And she has 3.
Vote for Cinderella because she deserves it and is still underrated in the Disney Princesses Franchise when she survived so much (ab*se... Lady Tremaine still terrifies me and she doesn't even have magical powers except when she steals the magic wand in Cinderella 3) Also one vote for Cinderella is one jump outside the window Henri is ready to do. Yes it's real.
Cinderella / Aschenputtel / Cendrillon:
I love all Cinderellas but the Grimm version refocuses the story away from magical aid and transforms it into a story of the ability of grief to conversely power hope. ashenputtel weeps over the grave of her dead mother so much a beautiful tree grows out, with the voice of her mother guiding her and giving her the gown and shoes that ultimately get her to the ball. It turns Cinderella from a kind of passive receiver to a woman whose own love, in a way, saves her—her grief cycles into new joys, her love for the dead changes her for a new life. Idk it’s just a tremendously hopeful, haunting story, grounded in sorrow and love as our ways of guiding into the future.
Her slippers aren't made of glass, thankfully. Also, her step-sisters are blinded by birds who like Cinderella, apparently, on the day of the wedding. (I had to check this, as I knew the sisters had parts of their feet cut off to fit the shoe, but I was sure the mother had something bad happen, but there was no mention of a comeuppance for her. I found it on grimmstories.com, so I'm not sure how accurate to the original it is.)
#this amuses me more than it probably should#polls#cinderpoll#disney's cinderella#perrault#brothers grimm#cendrillon#aschenputtel#i mean disney's literally says in the credits it's based on perrault so...#fairy tales#wsd weird brain

Valentine's Superhero Wedding 2: Electric Boogalo
Yes folks, I decided to take one of my most succesful poll (and one of the few that was succesful at all ) and make it a yearly tradition. So to explain for those of you who weren't around for last year: I love wedding stories in any form of media, and I love superhero comics, so I decided to take both and mash em together, and let my patreons and myself each pick one from the very weird and wonderful halls of comicdom and let you fine folks pick one for me to review. The poll is above if you just want to jump into it but if you need a tad more context, here's a quick summary of each nominee! Wiccan (Billy Kaplan) and Hulking (Teddy Altman) (Empyre #5 and Empyre Aftermath Avengers #5): It's a classic love story: Android Boy meets Witch Girl, they fall in love, they have two children, an evil demon makes them into his baby hands, boys somehow get reincarnated back in time, boy meets other boy whose son of two aliens, they fight crime, they fall in love and then hurridely marry each other before the other boy becomes king of space. Billy and Teddy are one of the biggest queer couples in comicdom and due to a combination of weird comic aging, being out of focus for some time and general shenanigans it took the two a while to finally tie the knot as the only intresting part of a fairly dispaointing event. While said event involves Billy having ot save his husband from his grandma and also a bunch of plant men who want to do a genocide, long story that, the real focus is these two crazy kids finally getting married and getting to be happy. Not every major event comic has a gay wedding but it should damn well be a requirement. The Thing (Benjamin Grimm) and Alicia Masters (Fantastic Four #5 and Fantastic Four: The Wedding Special): Look let's be blunt here: Dan Slott's run on fantastic four was mostly a shit show, with lots of good ideas.. but the execution of a man who knows his past brilliant works have given him carte blanche to half ass it even with a job he seemed to be a perfect fit for and even while doing some of his best work AT THE SAME TIME THIS BOOK WAS PUBLISHED. But even with my bitterness toward a lot of Dan Slott's run very present.. I can't deny having Ben Grimm marry Alicia Masters was not only long overdue after a string of failed attempts to pair him with anyone else, but done beautifully. Outside of a near interpution from doom it's a wonderful wedding and the accompanying tie in nicely handles the bachelor and bachelortee festivites. The run may be .. a lot that i'll have to deal with some other day, but I can't deny one of my faviorite marvel characters got a lovely wedding. Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Catwoman (Selina Kyle) (Batman #50): This one.. is painful for me and something I avoided reading. After a year of well done build up, and one storyline with Booster Gold being character assinated I thankfully also avoided.. I found out said wedding wasn't going to happen for the very stupid reason of "batman can't be happy". I mean it is a problem for him sure.. but it'd be more intresting to explore that through the marriage than have Selina's completely destroyed character wise in this reboot best friend Holly Robinson tell her that as part of an overly complicated plan for revenge by Bane and his legion of doom consiting of girl whose doing this because reasons, Psycho Pirate, and Bruce's alternate dad. You know normally I like when comics get weird, but this is just hilariously dumb. Will this actually be a good issue despite what came before and after? Guess you'll have to vote for it because I don't know.
Yellowjacket (Hank Pym) and The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) (Avengers #59-60):
I haven't talked about it a lot on this blog but i'm a massive fan of the Ant-Man family: Hank, Jan, Scott, Cassie, Bill, Razz Nadia, even Eric. So it's a touch weird i've never read Hank and Jan's wedding.. or maybe not given it involves hank developing a second personality who claims to have killed hank, Jan protecting him by planning to marry him, and then holding Hank to the marriage despite the fact he wasn't at all cognizant. Also snakes and crime circuses are involved. That and ya know, said marriage ended in horrible tragedy and one of the darkest moments in avengers history, but the actual wedding itsel fis messed up enough to warrant my nomination.
So vote now! Voting closes in one week from today so vote asap to see your wedding of choice get a review this valentine's season!

Hi! Just wondering if the fact that “Sisters of Battle” is a remix of “ Mantis Lords” has any bearing on the bracket; was what happened with Cynthia’s and Volo’s themes from Pokémon a weird outlier because they tied?
Also: each of the submitted Hollow Knight themes except for “Radiance” has an alternate version that is in my opinion equally good! Here are the names of the songs, if anyone likes one and wants to hear both versions (I guess this is propaganda now?)(sorry idk how to do all the links in an ask):
Mantis Lords / Sisters of Battle
Hornet / Daughter of Hallownest
Sealed Vessel / Pure Vessel
Nightmare King / Grimm
Oh no, I am very sorry we did not catch that. I noticed that Nightmare King and Grimm were remixes of the same song but somehow this one slipped past us.
Should I remake the Hollow Knight polls to be more balanced/fair? Otherwise, if both move on I'll just combine it into one.
(I can also potentially add Grimm back in the running if that is something y'all want)
And thank you for the recommendations!
#ask#mod azura#thank you everyone for correcting!#I was a bit hasty with posting these polls admittedly#recommendations

Seeing that death battle is back. I tried to back and see the list of matches they had coming, because I think one was Ruby vs Maka and I don't think Ruby is going to win give her track record, and came across a poll of who we this is winning a fight Cinder or Azula. And my gods need to watch both shows before voting because the evil bitch Cinder wins by a mile and a half. Yet so many think Azula win against someone who is basically the avatar with a force field.
However, this got me thinking about the power scaling in RWBY and well... you notice how the four main characters of RWBY, the ones that literally make the name of the show are almost the weakest in solo fights when fighting people with actually fighting skill and power in the show?
I know the shows main message is working together is how you win but even then it seems like they lose more than win or still needs others to help. Like I can count on one hand all the times where it was just team rwby that fought and won without anyone's help and save for their solo fight records. That's kinda concerning. After all, outside of minion/normal grimm fights the four main characters get their asses kicked a lot.
I hope the next volume is like a training arc where they get upgrades and power ups is all I'm saying but it's weird that the side characters and villains are the most power and styled and not the four main characters.

[Image Description: Three characters resembling younger feminine versions of three different characters deemed “Tumblr Sexymen”, from left to right based on Dr. Habit from Smile For Me, Ingo from Pokemon Black and White/Pokemon Legends Arceus, and Troupe Master Grimm from Hollow Knight.
The first character is a teenage girl loosely resembling Dr. Habit from Smile For Me. She has green skin, long curly red hair in a ponytail, and red eyes with orange sclera. She is wearing a blue coat with turquoise accents and a pink flowery collar, a turquoise belt with a silver buckle, a small dark blue hat, a yellow lily flower in her hair, dark blue tights, and blue high-heeled boots with turquoise accents. She is smiling, revealing a missing tooth. The text on the image is transcribed as a bulleted list after the “keep reading” break, along with a paragraph that is not featured in the image.
The second character is a teenage girl loosely resembling Ingo from both Pokemon Black and White and Pokemon Legends Arceus. She has light skin, short silver hair, and silver eyes. She is wearing a lavender sweater with the circular Pearl Clan insignia on the front, a grey conductor’s hat with a blue and white circular logo on the front, a grey jacket with brown stripes and silver accents resembling train tracks, a brown skirt with silver accents to match the train track design elements of the jacket, lavender leggings, lavender socks, and brown shoes with silver soles. Beside her is a Litwick, a small candle-like ghost Pokemon. It has a white waxy body, a blue flame on top of its head, and green eyes partially hidden by dripping wax resembling “emo” bangs. The text on the image is transcribed as a bulleted list after the “keep reading” break, along with a paragraph that is not featured in the image.
The third character is a teenager resembling a humanoid version of the Grimmchild from Hollow Knight. They have pale grey skin, long red nails, light red eyes with black sclera, and short black hair styled to resemble horns. They are wearing a red sleeveless puffy jacket-style top, a short black cape, a black ribbon accessory that trails down their back, black shorts with black leggings, and black slip-on shoes. On the collar of their cape is a pin resembling the final state of the Grimmchild charm. The text on the image is transcribed as a bulleted list after the “keep reading” break, along with a paragraph that is not featured in the image.

okay guys i caved and joined in the sexyman descendantstrend despite having never payed attention to the sexyman trend overall, i literally only know that two of the guys these kids are based on were on the poll and grimm has a sexypedia page that i only checked to confirm its mere existence and that + “fashion doll line” was all i was working on, yes i know other people have at least done kids based on habit and grimm but in my defense this has been sitting in my drafts for a while okay i was nervous and also too lazy to write up the text under the readmore for the longest time leave me alone /j
Lilya Habit (she/her), daughter of Dr. Boris Habit
always trying to make people smile
loves flowers and puppets, has a lookalike one called “Miss Habby”
has a passing interest in dentistry from other dad
big sis to Putunia
lost tooth in a model train incident
Of course I had to do one based on the teeth man, even if he apparently didn’t do nearly as well in the tournament as he did in last year’s and losing to someone who shouldn’t be considered a sexy-man at that, Nagito is a minor so if he has to be included it should be as a sexy-boy for the teens to latch onto, but I digress hehe. I realize I coulda gone with a Carla for this, but the joke is kinda to make these kids resemble their sexyman dads, so she’s Lilya instead! Even with a biological daughter in this weird universe I figured Boris and Kamal would still adopt Putunia, and she is the best big sister to the little hero, even if it leads to some punched shins sometimes. ...man, I realized I missed a fun opportunity there in not also drawing Miss Habby XD
Stacey Anville (she/her), daughter of Subway Boss/Warden Ingo
always seems bored
not nearly as loud as her dad and uncle
loves trains just as much tho
loves battling too
feels bad for Lilya’s tooth despite it being an accident
shiny Litwick was bred from Ingo’s Chandelure
Ingo wears black, Emmet wears white, so of course I’d go for grey for Ingo’s kid. Originally I was gonna name her “Donna” as in “downline”, but then I figured “Stacey” would be a better neutral-ish train pun hehe. And of course “Anville” comes from Anville Town, idk what sort of pun that is but iirc that’s one of the places connected to the trains hehe. As for her design, I wanted the outfit to combine both of Ingo’s “homes” so to speak, his original home of Unova and his new home of Hisui. And, of course, the daughter of one of the strongest trainers in both Unova and Hisui is going to have Pokemon of her own, hence the Litwick! I mostly picked Litwick because I like Chandelure most out of Ingo’s team, and because it could cause some silly shenanigans with the third descendent I’m sharing.
Nikki Grimm (they/them), child of Troupe Master Grimm
troublemaker
loves scaring people
sometimes can’t tell when they might be going overboard
tried to eat the flame on Stacey’s Litwick once
very acrobatic
caused Lilya’s “train incident” by sneaking up on Stacey at a bad moment
will hiss at people they don’t like
If you were thinking that this was basically just the Grimmchild (even without reading that image description up there), you’d be right! I figured if anyone was gonna make one of these based on Grimm, that’d be the best direction to go in since he already has a kid of sorts. The fandom generally refers to the Grimmchild as they/them or it/its, right? Someone please, correct me if I’m wrong, I haven’t been able to access the meat of the Grimm Troupe dlc yet in my own playthrough due to not having knowing I didn’t have to have the dream nail powered up enough quite yet. I mean, I might, but I haven’t gone back to the Resting Grounds since I got more essence in order to check. (see if you can guess why I named them “Nikki”, you guys are smart so you’ve got a real good shot at piecing my punnage together ;3 )
Soooo...yeah, that’s my offering to this nonsense, idk if it’s even still a Thing but whatever, sometimes an idea grabs you and you take forever to share the results. If I were drawing these three normally and not with the “fashion doll line” idea in mind, they’d prolly have more varied body shapes. I know Lilya would be much taller than the other two and Nikki prolly wouldn’t have anything resembling boob curvature, but I copy-pasted the body structure and posing to give this thing the exact amount of effort it deserved /j

Noooooo you can't hate RT's token group of POC consisting of White guy with Japanese surname, angry Black woman 1 and 2, Asian quiet monk stereotype 2 electric boogaloo and DogTM. They are totally developed and well-rounded characters and not caricatures. You are racist if you hate them. :( /j The writing with the Ace Ops and Harriet is so fucking weird, because they expect us to care about Harriet crying over Clover or whatever but at the same time spent the last two volumes shitting on him and telling us how much of bad bootlicker he is or whatever. RT wants us to hate Clover and James but love Harriet even though all of her actions have been because of her loyalty to them. It doesn't work. I'm supposed to care about that bitch? I don't.
I'm not touching the race stuff with a 10 ft poll because I'm not getting involved in that discourse but it makes me mad knowing that mkek somehow put more energy into badly fleshing out Harriet (and the rest of the ace ops) than they did in giving Weiss and Whitley anything resembling complex emotions in their subplot. after. Four. Volumes.
And it's a clear double standard where ironwoods disabilities (PTSD and physical) were used to demonize him to the point where he was no longer the character his fans even knew him as while Harriet gets off scott free- from doing exactly what we condemn ironwood for (a complete casual disregard for human life) - because of grief for a character we're not even supposed to like. Like seriously?
Ironwood losing his arm and getting this black grimm looking prosthetic is blantently him "losing his humanity" and is now irredeemable but Harriet also tries to murder a whole city of people and it's a whoopsie daisy oopsie!! She won't try to commit mass murder again now, she's learned how to properly express her emotions through friendship 🥺
Lmao why does a 14 year old (male) abuse victim have to do more in the narrative to be given the benefit of the doubt by the other characters and the audience than an unhinged (female) cop who was LITERALLY 2 inches away from actually murdering people. The only reason the bomb wasn't dropped was because of sheer. Freaking. Luck.
I'm convinced 95% of v8 was just a massive psychological study on how much writers can get away with through the sheer power of parasocial relationships and a fandom already primed to digest all the bullshit fed to them.
I really do hope they do better in v9 with a smaller already established cast because my god none of these new characters make me feel anything other than contempt. At least they did the HH right? Robyn was pretty present but the rest of them were fine characters while not hogging so much time to themselves.
But they'll probably introduce 10 more new characters in vacuo who am I kidding

2022 / 42
Aperçu of the Week:
"We can always find something better than death."
(Town Musicians of Bremen / Brothers Grimm)
Bad News of the Week:
Sometimes we Europeans wonder about the USA. Especially about ethical standards in politics. Representatives who defend their 2nd Amendment rights with rapid-fire rifles and at the same time are strictly pro-life - i.e. against abortions even in the case of rape. Ex-presidents who still doubt the legitimacy of their successor, even though they have been told in several dozen cases and unanimously by courts that the election was not "stolen" from them - but that they simply lost. Celebrities like former pro football players or weird TV doctors who have real prospects of winning a Senate seat without any qualifications - as if it were a lottery. And and and...
Whatever happens in the United States of America has global repercussions. Even if China doesn't like to hear it: still this North American confederation of states is the primate on this planet in almost every respect - economically, financially, culturally, militarily, scientifically, you name it. In other words, a kind of benchmark for the rest of the world. Probably that's why we "on the old continent" look at what's happening there with a mixture of fascination and horror. In the positive, as in the negative.
Now, the investigative committee on the storming of the Capitol last year officially subpoenaed Donald Trump to clarify his role in this assault on democracy. With any African despot who would be cited before the U.N. Criminal Court in The Hague, one would have a comforting feeling that justice would now be served. But in this case? One reads two things in the media. First, that he will probably not comply with this summons, which is relatively momentous. And second, that it won't hurt his support among his voter base - on the contrary: the will cheer that he's opposing "the system".
According to polls, two-thirds of traditionally Republican supporters doubt the legitimacy of Joe Biden's election as president. That's more than one-third of the eligible U.S. population. Although there is no - zero, niente, nada, rien - evidence, let alone proof, of this. That's why most political observers expect Republicans to win at the midterms. So Trump goons will have the command in both chambers of the congress. Well then, good night!
And what's going on with the second superpower on the planet? At the National Congress of the Communist Party, which takes place (only) every five years, Xi Jinping succeeded in securing for himself a wealth of power comparable only to Mao Zedong. And as with Mao, one may doubt that this is good for his nation - and for the world. The control on media, the system of "social points," the threatened annexation of Taiwan à la Hong Kong, the blackmail of economic "partners," the suppression of minorities such as the Uighurs, etcetera. In the end, it is the hubris of one's own drunkenness with power that makes it possible, even in today's oh-so-enlightened times, for despots in meagerly democratic disguise to declare their ego the measure of all things.
Good News of the Week:
For the first time, a German chancellor has made use of his vested "guideline competence": Olaf Scholz has put his foot down and ordered the stretch operation of the last three active nuclear reactors, which were supposed to be finally shut down at the end of this year, until mid-April 2023. For months, there was a dispute about Germany's energy security in the coming winter between the coalition parties of the Greens - who wanted to allow a maximum of stretch operation depending on necessity of two nuclear power plants - and the Liberals - who demanded a real lifetime extension (i.e. including new atomic fuel rods) and even the reactivation of shut-down reactors until 2024.
Since I am one of those who used to protest against nuclear power, but at the same time understand (to some extent) how this technology works physically, I have no problem at all with the stretched operation. This is because, in contrast to the lifetime extension, no new fuel rods are needed for this, so not a single gram of additional radioactive waste is produced. It merely continues to siphon off energy - which is produced anyway, since you can't simply switch off the radioactivity at the push of a button. On the contrary, one would have to continue to supply energy (as everyone has probably noticed by now in the context of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant Zaporizhzhya) in order to ensure the necessary cooling, without which a meltdown would occur.
On the other hand, the process shows the government's ability to act. Which just does not turn in circles due to different positions of its different parties and does not find solutions. Especially since the two antipodes, the Greens and the Liberals, have made very different inroads in the last state elections - which always have an impact on cooperation at the federal level: Gains for the Greens, losses for the Liberals. Which, of course, brings with it the temptation for the latter to champion their positions and goals more stridently. A strong chancellor for the third party in the coalition (Social Democrats) can only do good.
P.S.: In the meantime, the coalition of Conservatives and Greens in Germany's largest state, North Rhine-Westphalia, has agreed to bring forward the final phase-out of coal power - once the backbone of its economic strength - from 2038 to 2030. This is a fundamental improvement that should not be lost in the current discussions surrounding energy. Because it is simply fundamental.
Personal happy moment of the week:
Last week, the winter semester started at the universities. This year with my daughter. After graduating from high school, my big little girl did a voluntary social year in a kindergarten and is now starting at Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich - with political science as her major and history as her minor. And her dad is proud. And a little melancholic. After all, at the time I had decided against studying and instead saw my path in self-employment - a decision I have regretted more than once. I'm all the happier now that she's going this way - her way. You go, girl!
I couldn't care less...
...that Missouri's pension fund pull $500 million in investment capital from Blackrock. As Louisiana did before. The reason: The asset managers act too environmentally friendly for them. Which could be at the expense of returns. Wait: I care indeed!
As I write this...
...the protests against the Iranian regime continue. Also in this country: yesterday in Berlin, according to estimates, more than 80,000 people took to the streets to express their solidarity for Persian women and their basic rights. Bravo! And: Courage!
Post Scriptum:
The lettuce head has won: British Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned. This means she was in office for about as long as it took the Conservative Party to pick her as their party leader (and thus automatically head of government) after Boris Johnson. And her tenure? Half was making a sad face around the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and the other half a program completely divorced from reality to "economically unleash" the UK in defiance of global trends. Will she be missed? No. Just as an aside, she was the Foreign Secretary who engineered the fabulous deal to deport legitimate asylum seekers to Rwanda.
Now what? The Tories pull the same crap they did last time: avoid new elections at all costs, in which they would be hopelessly outgunned by Labour, and elect a new party leader, including Prime Minister. Rishi Sunak? Jeremy Hunt? Or, in the end, the political zombie Boris Johnson? Actually, though, it doesn't matter at all. If the party again internally selects a head of government who has zero democratic legitimacy - because he was simply not elected by the people - he may have the support of the majority of Conservative parliamentarians. But certainly not the support of the people.
Excellent prospects for the future. Especially because now, at the latest, the next British prime minister will finally have to face the truth. Or simply admit it. Because there is a very simple explanation for why Great Britain is having such a difficult time in the face of pent-up old problems (health care) and emerging new ones (financial market): Brexit. But that's just what the British wanted. Therefore, my sympathy is limited.

Solo Para: You’re Gonna Miss This
Even with her eyes closed as she tries to calm herself, distract herself from existence in Auradon for a minute, Sylvia notices the brief light change outside.
Confused, she opens her eyes, but that only confuses her more, because she’s... not, in her dorm room anymore. “What the--?”
How was she home? How and why was she sitting at the kitchen counter at home?
The front door opens and she hears bags, turning to see mom and her brother carrying in groceries, blinking, staring at them in confusion. Velma chuckles. “Well, don’t just sit there and stare. Come help us unload the car.”
“Aw, give her a break, mom, she got in late last night. I’m not entirely sure she knows she’s not in Italy anymore.” And with that, her twin nudges her arm a bit.
Sylvia blinks, shaking her head in confusion. “Italy...?”
“Told you so,” he says, turning to mom. Velma laughs and the two head back to get more bags.
Sylvia’s eyebrows furrow, muttering to herself. “But... I wasn’t in Italy...” This doesn’t make any sense. She gets up and heads upstairs to her room... pausing at the sight.
Most of her stuff was in place here. Not like it had been brought with her to a prep school in a country that just kinda started existing in the middle of the ocean. There was her usual work suitcase sitting on her window seat, but otherwise, everything was in place... even her laptop and phone, sitting on their chargers, set perfectly even and organized.
Shaking her head, she goes to her laptop and pulls up a search engine. ‘Auradon Prep’.
No results.
‘Auradon’.
No results.
‘Fairytales real’.
Conspiracy theorist blogs, crazy fanfictions about the Brothers Grimm, some gruesome monster hunting TV show with a broody-looking dark-haired guy as its protagonist, but nothing related to what she was after.
Oh god. Her heart jumps to her throat.
Wait. Not everything in Auradon was from there. ‘Miles Pollari’.
And there it is, Wagner and Pollari’s landslide victory in the polls, ads for the campaign with Miles Pollari’s daughter-- oh, god, Melinda’s okay. She grabs her phone and scrolls through her contacts.
But not finding her number.
Shaking her head, she turns back to her search. ‘Weird deaths Annapolis government’.
Yep. The bizarre suicides in an office that was going to host Wagner and Pollari but didn’t... and the strange fire at a local dump...
The crocotta.
Sam. Oh, god, Sam.
She has to find them, has to talk to them, has to figure out what’s going on. Sylvia closes her laptop and grabs her good jacket, cell phone, and her go-bag, calling her boss in the WSN as she goes. “I need everything you have on the Winchester search as of late,” she says after getting through her security code, partially hating how she chooses to explain why.
“I’m going hunting.”

out of these three, ive only watched hero hei. and. well.
found his channel bc of some drama with an artist i follow. then i saw the whole debacle about the rt first prices increases and he made a long video about that, blasting the rt crew for something a moderator said. afaik the crew removed the mod and apologised for what the mod said. and i knew jack shit about the rt drama subject going on at that time so i watched more of these videos until i got to the rwby ones which were
weird
the vibe was weird
and he talked about people not liking his channel which was. fair. he *is* criticising rwby and theres bound to be backlash but this might just be me not being good at picking up subtle social cues like a normal person,, but he sounded very. aggressive. and almost nitpicky. but okay. whatever.
then i got to his video coverage of the most recent rt debacle. you know the one.
and then i stopped
bc the way he did his videos is very. sensationalist. in a way. assuming a lot of things without a lot of proper info, getting defensive a lot when he had no reason to be, thumbnails and titles that made me very uncomfortable personally, basically he slammed rt at every opportunity he gets under the guise of “loving” the company and wanting them to improve. which isnt what hes shown but okay i guess.
stopped watching his content and moved on
then
i developed a dislike after his w*ndigo grimm video which, from what i gathered based on a cursory search, skewed results of a poll and caused the artist backlash and some harassment. all bc he saw that some people were criticising the artist bc of what they drew and what they titled that drawing
not native so i cant speak for the cultural impact her drawing had on the affected native peoples but from the bits and pieces i found, the criticism the artist initially got was fair. she acknowledged it, and considered the requests for her to change the TITLE of her art piece. and hei blew it out of proportion and essentially fucked over everyone else participating in the poll bc he felt that this one person was being “unnecessarily” criticised
and then i saw his other more sensationalist pieces and i was like haha fuck this
so yeah. i harbour a deep dislike for him
dont know how i feel about vexed viewer and adel aka but from a cursory glance at the notes, people are saying that vexed viewer doesnt push his opinions on people (which hei does, but in a way that he can say he isnt) and i see almost no defense for adel aka
but damn
if a single show makes you get so damn mad just stop watching fam. theres a difference between criticism and hate and you sure aint criticising jack buddy
Can we just all agree not to watch their videos anymore please? As a New Years resolution to 2021?

MODERN ADAPTATION BRACKET WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT POST!!!
We have finished another tournament (or rather, two mini-tournaments!) Thank you guys for another great one, the results really surprised me this time around!! I apologize for deciding not to hold a Loser's Bracket & Mod's Choice poll this time around, but both will be back for the next tournament.
Before we go into the winners, however, I want to say that this blog is officially a year old! I opened submissions for our first tournament, Red Riding Poll, on July 26th of 2023, and the first rounds of the poll came in the early days of August 2023! Since then, we have hosted 4 tournaments (Red Riding Poll, Cinder Poll, Little Merpoll, & Modern Adaptation Brackets) and it's truly been a great experience! I can't wait to see how many more brackets we will do in the future :)
Okay, onward to the winners!
We will start with the Best Modern Bracket. The quarterfinalists for that one were Once Upon a Time and The Sisters Grimm! Once Upon a Time has been a decisive pick, being both on the Best and Worst brackets, but since it only placed in the Best bracket it must have some merit to it! :) As for the Sisters Grimm, it was definitely a popular choice and probably would've won the whole bracket if it did not have to go against the eventual first-place winner/that said first-place winner wasn't in the tournament. I've never read it, but if I were to give "fan favorite" award for this bracket it would definitely win it. Congratulations to fans of both of these fairytale crossover series for the bronze medal!
The semifinalists of the Best Modern Bracket was Hook! This is another one that I haven't watched, but Robin Williams' old movies are definitely great nostalgic picks (RIP). Though technically Peter Pan isn't a fairytale, I think that it is often listed with them enough that it should count, so congrats to Hook for carrying that win!
Finally, the winner of the Best Modern Bracket was none other than the magical girl classic, Princess Tutu!!! This is one of my favorite anime series that I don't see often, so I was more than surprised to see it not only submitted but win (and by a lot, too! It practically swept every poll it went against, even things like Ponyo which I really thought was going to carry the win due to how universally loved it is!) A delightful series that definitely deserves the love, I couldn't be happier to see that this little duck made it all the way to the gold <3
Applaud to the Best Modern Bracket winners!!! Now, get ready to point and laugh at the Worst Modern Bracket winners!!! (Or losers, in a way, if you think about it). Okay, but in all seriousness, if you like any of these listed for the Worst Modern Bracket, try not to take offense! This is all in good fun :)
The quarterfinalists for the Worst Modern Bracket were Avalon High and Sydney White! Sydney White was one of those that were in both brackets, but it only ranked in the Worst one. As for Avalon High, I have been told that the dislike for this one was more so for it being a bad book-to-movie adaptation, which is interesting to hear. Anyway, I haven't watched either, so I have no witty comments.
For the semifinalist, we have Hooked! Another Peter Pan adaptation in the 2nd place, go figure... Well, I feel as if this book was more well-known, it could've gone to #1 as people tended to have a lot of strong feelings on this. I admit, the summary doesn't make it sound too appealing to me... well, here it is with the silver for that!
The winner was obvious to me as soon as the bracket started. And I was right on the money, for none other than Beastly got the winning title of the Worst Modern Bracket! It has all the pitfalls of bad Beauty and the Beast adaptations that I've noticed and it's certainly quite infamous (especially after the Jenny Nicholson video)! I distinctly remember seeing the commercials for it on TV when I was a kid and thinking "that movie looks weird... is that what teens like?" Apparently not, since it didn't do so well! Nobody deserves the honor of being called the Worst Modern Bracket like this movie, good job!
aaaannnnndddd that's it for the modern bracket polls! Thank you everyone who participated. Our next tournament as voted on by you guys will be Best Fairy Godmother. I don't have a figure of when I will open submissions, but I would say at least two weeks. See you then! <3 <3 <3
