Zelink gets Isekaied into BG3 Pt8: Goblin Camp

Zelda- High Elf Draconic Lineage Sorcerer

Link- Half Wood Elf Champion Fighter

So far: Team Zelda explored the Risen Road, Team Link dealt with Lady Ethel and Mayrina, and the Dream Visitor did an oopsie.

The party approaches the Goblin checkpoint outside the camp proper. Zelda, with the confidence of her mental victory over the Dream Visitor, uses her aura of authority (unrelated to the tadpole) to get the past the guards.

Right before they cross the bridge, the voice of The Absolute begins to dominate the party's minds. However, instead of the artefact, the Triforce symbol lights up on Zelda's hand and silences it with the sound of the bell of creation. (The sound that goes off when Zelda uses her power in BotW.)

The glowing Triforce fades and becomes a tattoo on her hand. In the confusion afterward, Gale asks to analyze the new tattoo. Once he does, he struggles to convey what he's found. Whatever power Zelda... used(?) was magical, but not of the Weave. His mind is racing, but Wyll steadies him. They have only conjecture and theories, so they resolve to continue on and wait for camp to get Gale to do more research.

In the Goblins' courtyard camp, the first thing they notice is Volo. Link is the only one who met him, since he left after interviewing Link about his encounter with Goblins. He gets dragged off into the Shattered Sanctum by Gribbo as usual.

Zelda plays with the Owlbear cub, Lae'zel humbles Crusher, Gale tricks Klagga out of the poem, and Astarion works his magic on Grat.

Inside the Shattered Sanctum, they first meet Priestess Gut. Zelda puts on a pretty good show of claiming that she's received a "divine message from The Absolute" that she needs to tell her in a more private setting. On the way to her chapel, she tells the party via tadpole link to ambush her on her mark. The assassination goes off without a hitch and Zelda says a prayer.

The party starts to investigate the Defiled Temple and takes out Polma the Ogre. During the short rest they take there, they discuss the strategy for the rest of the camp. They were unable to do recon due to running into Gut immediately upon entering. Link suggests a plan of recon and sabotage. Scope out the floor plan, locate Dror Ragzlin and Minthara, find and/or free any prisoners they can, destroy as many war drums as possible, and take out and hide as many patrolling guards as they can manage.

By exploring a bit further, Gale finds the Selunite puzzle room and decide to explore a bit before carrying out their plan. They find the Selunite Outpost in the Underdark. As fascinated as Zelda is, they have enough on their plate and go back up to carry out their plan.

The plan goes pretty well. Volo and Liam are freed, several drums and even more guards are taken out, Abdirak has no takers.

The party enters the worg pens and instead of demanding for the Goblins to leave the bear alone, Zelda tells the party to be ready to attack.

The fight's a bit chaotic, but it is a successful fight. Link and Zelda are the most surprised to see the bear turn into Halsin.

The conversation with Halsin goes as normal, no great solution to the tadpoles and the Grove is still in danger.

The party plus Halsin discuss the remaining Goblin leaders and how to go about dealing with them. They decide that Minthara is in a secluded enough area to take her out without alerting the rest of the camp. Then Ragzlin will be a full battle.

For the sake of stealth, Zelda asks Halsin to stay in the Worg Pen while they deal with Minthara.

The Minthara operation goes a bit sloppy, but luckily Zelda inadvertently hits Minthara with her staff in a pressure point as the Drow lunges at her, knocking her out. Minthara is left on the floor there since the Goblins in the room needed a bit more attention to eliminate.

The party fetches Halsin and in a glorious battle, the defeat Dror Ragzlin and claim the cult's treasure.

Right before the party warps back to the Grove, Link leans out the front door, sounds Lump's Warhorn, and they leave to let the Ogres have their fun.

Could you recommend a fic that is just beautiful prose? I love feeling immersed in the story as well as the beauty of language the author weaves. Also smut. Smut is a good bonus.

BG3, DA or PoE are fine, I'm not picky.

So the main issue is I'm probably going to want to recommend writers, not individual fics on the whole. Choosing a fic per writer is torture but I will try my best.

Starting off strong with @senseandaccountability AKA Lilith Morgana. You could do literally any of them (the current Astarion fic Blaze me a Sun is stunning, and the iconic one is the Blackwall/Trev fic there are names for what binds us) but I'm going to plump for so I wait for you like a lonely house which is Aeducan/Gorim and is just sublime.

NeverwinterThistle writes incredible Gortash/default Dark Urge Stuff. Ten Silver Pieces is incredibly written but very, very gory too so have a care. The prose is quite something though. The others are slightly less gory, but no less intense.

Noseforahtwo writes beautiful work. Out of the Woods is Blackwall/Trevelyan and has gorgeous smut and wonderful dialogue.

@popiellart AKA martyrologics again is somebody I could recommend everything of, and people are going to assume I will go for The Hunt (which I could) but I'm going to plump for The Dark Urge/Lae'zel fic the dark urge sleeps alone because it's beautiful, and romantic, and deserves more readers.

Again, @smoreofbabylon AKA Vashnoi has a gorgeous sensitivity across her work, but I'm very fond of More than Bodies

It’s quiet enough that her ears pop. The girl in her dream looks at the sky above them with her peaceful, indistinct face, and she waits. Elias says, “We found the druid.”

How would you have done bg3’s story to be less companion based, other than removing them entirely? Genuinely curious because I think I feel the same way but I can’t quite put what it is into words

i don't think it's that the game should be less companion-based, per se; i think the reason that i personally am not particularly interested in that approach as pertaining to story is that the companions' individual plotlines are thematically-resonant, but not cohesive overall. the recruitable characters rarely interact with each other or participate in each other's subplots, which weakens the main plot and makes it hard (for me, anyway) to buy the quirky found-family ensemble dynamic that the player is supposed to become invested in. interactions between party characters are contained almost entirely in ambient party banter and easy-to-miss post-cutscene dialogues with your player character, which results in the story equivalent of the player character becoming co-protagonist of six unrelated plotlines at once while the rest of the quirky found-family ensemble resolutely ignore one another. it's taking the most compelling narrative aspect of a big, colorful cast and shooting it in the foot—and the player character's dynamics with each individual party member don't make up for it, because a custom player character is not, by design, fully-fleshed. a blank slate's interactions with a character with a full backstory are not going to be thematically rich or reciprocal. the test of love at the circus cracks me up because it's completely one-sided. your turn, gale...you confessed your love to this character...if they were a food, what kind of food would they be. go on

the end result is that, even though the game is ostensibly story-driven, most of the meat of the story—insofar as it's a story about a ragtag team of misfits who become like family—is still left to the player's imagination. and that's the tradeoff of a choose-your-own-adventure plot with as many branching paths as this one...in this game you can kill or maim or dismiss a recruitable character and never see them again. it's mechanically easier to allow and accommodate for that sort of gameplay decision when that character doesn't play an important role in other characters' plotlines and development arcs. but it means that your big, charming ensemble cast is going to stand in the background staring into space while all of the important story beats happen. i'd have traded player character customization and much of the game's freedom of choice for a more linear gameplay route that accounts narratively, at all times, for each of the characters

nickname: does her letter-pseudonym count... Dad called her Rish growing up (-ish being an Orcish diminutive and single-syllable names generally being considered cuter) but she hasn't gone by that in quite some time.

height: bit taller than average at 6'6" (or 6'5.5" if you can ever get her cowlick to lie flat.)

nationality/ethnicity: Orsinium (nation)! taking this opportunity to present a snippet of one of the maps I have been using to try to visualize locations and their relation to each other (<- thing I struggle with). I cannot center it due to the many tribulations of the website + this crop is not a very wide image lol BUT. computer, enhance!!

Dushnikh Yal location left in for reference. this is (allegedly) where Orsinium as both independent territory and city is located in 4E! Shatul is about three hours by cart to the west of the city.

favorite fruit: a good handful of blueberries. she has also developed a fondness for apples in recent times :')

favorite season: she does miss spring... running fetch quests at least will sometimes take her places with a bit more seasonal variety.

favorite flower: snow gentian - these are some of the little blue flowers I always put in her hair during her Shatul era!

favorite scent: she likes most floral scents, but has a particular soft spot for a nice sharp mint.

coffee, tea, or hot chocolate: on an everyday basis she will usually go for a tea as it's more readily available, but on one cross-country errand she stopped by Solitude and was wildly overcharged for skillfully acquired some chocolate. best purchase of the whole trip, 10/10 will buy again. it's saved for special occasions and/or to share when someone has a rough day.

average hours of sleep: typically 7-8 hours - 10-11 bedtime, up around 6. not a stranger to late nights though...

dogs or cats: would tell you she likes them both equally - she has more experience with dogs, but thinks the rare euphoria of a skittish cat choosing your lap for a napping spot is really rewarding.

dream trip: she's not been anywhere really properly warm, so would love to see someplace further south at some point. (...unfortunately she would need to acquire a day wardrobe with fewer turtleneck collars and less wool first.)

number of blankets: minimum of three on any given night, but this number does often go up as the temperature calls for it :P

random fact: the circlet/pendant that I give her sometimes... feather enchantments. for hauling more books 👍 especially useful in the beginning while she's still getting used to the altitude changes!

My little ham is being extremely cuddly tonight and I am very here for it, I was very sad earlier because I can’t remember what Jäger smells like anymore. I find myself smelling Denny often hoping I won’t forget him too. For some reason I’ve been thinking a lot about Jäger’s final moments lately which prompts trying to remember what he smelled like, what he felt like and I just can’t remember, all of those memories are wrapped up and laced with so much sadness and trauma I just can’t separate them. I don’t know what’s bringing these feelings back up lately, maybe because I haven’t been feeling well and have been unhappy because I feel unwell. I need a nice distraction and neither of the guys I’ve been seeing are providing it. Maybe I need a hobby? Writing seems too constricting lately and not fun. I’ve been thinking about crocheting again but a) I have to learn again which no biggie YouTube taught me when my niece was born 15 years ago, it can teach me again, b) I have no clue what to make? I’d make something for Denny but he has so many clothes lol I guess he can always use more? Maybe cute hats like Good Boy Ollie has? Denny deserves all the cute clothes and hats, he’s such a good baby. I don’t deserve him.

In non depressing dog stuff I made some video game resolutions for the year that I’m not sure I’ll accomplish. If you’ve followed me for a very long time you know I also love Soulsborne games, I’ve beaten DS3 and Elden Ring but my resolution is to beat the DLC for DS3, I want to beat Malenia and Placidusax in Elden Ring and finally play Bloodborne. I’ve never played Bloodborne despite absolutely loving it. The problem is I haven’t touched DS3 since I beat it so I can’t remember how to play it and Elden Ring I’m reasonably confident I can beat Placidusax but Malenia woof waterfowl dance am I right? THB I had enough health to tank most of it if I could avoid at least one but it’s her stage two form scarlet rot dive bomb that killed me. Admittedly I’ve only tried Malenia 2 or 3 times, my partner got Let Me Solo Her themselves to beat Malenia for them. I don’t know where to start though, I have to restart them all from the beginning because I’m on PS5 now, I guess I should go in order? So Bloodborne first? I’m so scared though everything is so fast 😭 I’m a big dumb, clunky over level and use the biggest axe in the game type player and I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep up. I don’t know if I can do the DLC I don’t know if I can beat Lady Maria or the Orphan of Kos but I guess I’ll try. Wish me luck y’all, I’m not embarking back into Soulsborne until I 100% Season of the Cryomancer though and of course this will have no bearing on my MK lust/content or anything, I don’t really have Soulsborne husbandos/waifus though I guess there’s boy Anri and Vicar Amelia (yes I’m a monster fucker, deal with it) oh oh and my precious stingray boyfriend Lorian, I don’t write for any of them or self ship with any of them so there will still be lots of dumb egg jokes. Don’t worry I’m in no way taking a break from MK I’m just indulging in another franchise I love deeply too, multitasking. So I guess just a heads up that there may be an influx of rage posts about Soulsborne bosses lol Or me professing my endless love for Greirat and Boc lol Will I ever go back to Baldur’s Gate 3?? Who knows! Probably not tbh I don’t like anyone other than Gribbo and Scratch not to mention I’ve seen my partner put just hours into it. I’ve seen the game and maybe I’m just bad at it but it’s just not fun for me which is why I’m going back to Soulsborne games lol I’ll tag my posts with “Soulsborne” if you don’t wanna see my rambling about the games though but like I said I promise I will still be all MK all the time after all it’s my true love ❤️
