This is my gorgeous, goofy, silly little guy I drew in class in my sketchbook. 💅😎 your welcome
Btw ignore all of the surface texture of the paper from drawings on the other side of the page + grey lead smudges I couldn’t be bothered to run out.

i had such a strange dream last night i had to make this project about SOMETHING in like one hour and it had these little lego models that i built in some sort of lego-minecraft hybrid? and then my friend started talking about the time they accidentally were rude to this guy who my sisters friends with who moved here from america in 2017 and then left in like. 2019 (who were still friends with)(his family are family friends and stuff they visit like once a year bc the mum is australian) who for some reason in this dream used to be in some sort of orchestra ? that my friend was also in despite the fact that irl they dont play any instruments in an orchestra they just play the drums occasionally? and so i made my project about that event for some reason and i was freaking out because it was really rushed . and then i was watching some sort of documentary where the guy from america was like. 8 for some reason and at my old primary school talking about my sister?? then he appeared and was weirded out by my project (understandably)?? and i started remembering some random converssation i overheard his dad having ages ago where he talked about getting comics with his brother from the only shopping centre in the really empty desert town they lived in . idk why
and then i had to frantically finish my project, and THEN i was woken up irl finally
#idk why the guy was in my dream bc literally nothing has happened recently that is remotely related to him or his family 😭#although fun fact i did once find a pencil in the lost adn found of one of the science classrooms that used to belong to him#i could tlel bc it was one of those american yellow greyleads with a pink rubber + it yk. had his name on it#that was wild#cos like the pencil had just been there for years like he went back to america years ago so its a strange coincidence that i found it#we ended up sending a picture of it to the family i think#OKAY RANT OVER IDK WHY THAT GOT SO LONG…… now you all know the details of my dream and our family friends in america#oh that reminds me of the lady who used to teach us about science stuff in yr 2 bc her kid went to our school who left at the end of the ye#-r to move to florida cos she got a job at literal NASA that was cool#shoutout to reggie you let 7 year old me learn about surface tension and feel cool for having met someone who works for nasa o7#okay rant for reals over now

thank you!!! i think i only did two lines free-hand, the rest i did in greylead first and wrote over it with the marker. i am not especially confident with it because it's been maybe 3 years at this point but i will get used to it again
what do we think of my hiragana chart. i used to be pretty good but i did not pay attention i guess so i do not remember it, going to try and relearn!
i wanted to make it pretty. we got the kitties
#mine sucks so much it looks like i'm doing with my left hand :(#← hence the greylead! it's not cheating#it's just helping yourself!#you can do whatever you want forever

Erm…
Ignore my crusty hand
Currently in denial about this loser being my truesona but at this point I’ve given up and accepted it
He’s literally me
His name is Scottie and he’s a catfish :)
Image description under the cut
[Image Description (first time at doing this, sorry if I get anything wrong): A greylead pencil drawing an anthropomorphic catfish named Scottie. He’s in a floating pose, holding a boba drink in his left hand and putting up a peace sign with his right. He’s wearing shorts, battered converse and a blink-182 shirt, and has a dark spikey mullet. The bottom of the page has his name, and some writing in the side reads “That’s so punk-rock of you, dude!!”. Blank space on the page is filled with stars and small fish.
#I think there should be more catfish fursonas#they’re epic#artists on tumblr#sfw furry#fursona#sfw fursona#sfw fur art#truesona#cringe culture is dead

I do traditional art a lot, but I can't figure out how to take good pictures. How do you do it?
Hey there, thank you for the message!
In the past I had an dslr camera on a tripod, lights, etc, art pinned up on my easel, but it just took so long to set up and get it right, I got super frustrated with it, expecially as I don't have a dedicated studio space so I had to pack everything up and down each time. Also, the camera would bounce light off the greylead in my pencil work and pictures would have shiny areas that didn't look clean so it was useless. It was a little bit better for my pastel works and took a good size image, but the fishbowl effect was so hard to fix later so if the picture was larger and I needed to move the tripod back a little, the image would be distorted and need adjustments in photoshop afterwards, it all took so damn long and I got really sick of it.
After trying various techniques and set-ups, I now just use my smartphone. I have learned it's really important to have as little movement as possible so I set the art up on a slight angle on my easel to catch the right amount of light on the paper, I brace my elbows/arms on the table, breathe out completely so my body's not moving even for a breath, and snap off a few quick shots on my phone. I take care to line up the picture with the straight edges on the sides, top and bottom so it's centered as well as possible within the frame and not distorted.
I use an iPhone Xs and the camera is awesome for my pencil drawings, it doesn't capture any of the shine off the pencil and the lines always come up nice and crisp.
I hope this helps, let me know if you need more info or detail!

Common Scottish Swamp Kelpie
This specimen was found miles away from the nearest swampland, unfortunately I startled it while expecting it from a far.
Common Scottish Swamp Kelpies are one of the largest kelpies across Eurasia and can be easily identified by their reed-like mane and heavy hooves. Unlike other species, the Common Scottish Swamp Kelpie is, as its name suggests, relatively common but is endemic to the Isle of Skye.
They’re constantly dripping wet because of their connection to water. They are also the reason for kelpie’s public general distaste and stereotypes against them such as carrying people of to drown them, or shape shifting, although there is also little evidence that any kelpie can shape shift, and anyone who’s gotten onto their backs has been a curious child or a particularly brave drunk.
(I honestly don’t know what I’m doing, call me cringe but this is really quite fun and I’m gonna do more. Also don’t judge why the kelpie looks like that, he’s a special boy and it was my first time drawing a horse)
#drawing#fairy#faerie#fae#kelpie#I’m gonna make this a series or something idk#greylead#sammyskelpies

im just wondering somthin’ but when your embroidering stuff onto clothes how would i do a stencil of what i want to make? would i to the stencil on the inside or would something like tailor’s chalk work? thanks
honestly idrk?? I've just been using those friction pens? rub out pens? whatchamacallits
basically one of these bad boys:
because you can wash it out OR you can just iron it and the heat makes the pen disappear, if you dont have one of those pens absolutely just use tailors chalk or a plain greylead pencil because they also just disappear if you wash it a little
if you can, just get a very simplified drawing of your shapes because you put the detail in with your thread:)))))
#sorry for the rant and I'm still a beginner so idk if any of this is trustworthy advice but yeah :))#cawcaw motherfucker#sailor by the seashore#asks#embroidery adventures

Wherever there is a square, it's usually (but not always) rounded off; little to no shading; only coloring things that would be black; thin outlines (Though that might just be because of the fact you use greylead)
So, according to you and one other person my art style signs are
rounded shapes
rare for coloration and shading
thin, rough outlines
So in opposite for that it would be
Sharp shapes, or sticking to shapes
COLOR
Thick outlines.
Now all I need to do is figure out which art piece to make/remake

spent almost 14 hours doing this image of a dog someone we know owns to get used to using both HiPaint and a stylus with our phone. This because we learned that the rubber pen-end styluses work with our phone and there are some free art programs for phones.
Printed and framed it made a pretty respectable early christmas present for her owner!
Finally we are free from the situation where we must try to draw on our phone using our finger in our notes program (hard, feels bad, awful) because we don't have access to our computer (or a sketchpad but trying to draw on paper can also be tricky when out, with all the flippy pages or running out of room in the book or nothing to rest it on or wanting to do colour but you only have a greylead)

LIGHTS ARE ON BUT NOBODY’S HOME
Exhibition text for Layo's gradshow, Jun 2024
Exhausting all possibilities. Defiling all options. Violating the archive. London. Melbourne. Paris. Vienna. America and more. Repeating names over and over to revert them into unintelligible sounds. Not for trivial deconstruction, but for some kind of ritual. Dashes of greylead puncture the surface over and over and over, marauding page and canvas, crudely obscuring surfaces that have nothing on them to reveal. Quick and fast, hard and blunt. Deceivingly involuntary. Products of some magic, products of some rigour, products of some love. Over and over and over again. The bard hacks his throat and sings songs of flowers long gone.
But we won’t learn.
Nothing new is new.
Possibility is endless.
The list goes on.
Great exhaustion spurs a need for dazzling references. Things that arrest the soul. Things that look or feel unusual. Doesn't even matter what, just different. Surprising and earnest. Offensive to laggards. Exhaustive but incomplete. Not so much world building as life affirming. Moment rejecting. Future postulating. Looking inwards, projecting outward. Alien to others but not alienating. Inviting. Playful. Deceitful by nature, obsessed with itself and with its environment. Defined by its own negation. Come and play. Hiding behind the fear of killing your darlings. Something new is wrangled in the process, with it conjuring another opportunity for something beautiful to die.
Layo says too much.
Layo doesn't say enough.
Layo anonymises names, titles and poetry, reducing them to their barest material form.
He weaves them through a barren field of quasi-ironic sculptures and canvases that gesture at being artworks without truly achieving that status. The set he builds is vacant of content but enriched with intent; ‘vacant’ in the sense that his works don’t seem to speak beyond their materiality, ‘enriched’ in the sense that they converge to transcend their materiality to establish a mood. Unlike a new-materialist, who uses the unadorned form to bolster the subjectivity of the object they are presenting, Layo diminishes the identity of his objects and words. The forms of his pieces are perfunctory - more about generating an ambience than revealing something inherent to their material. The draft serves as his final form. Layo crudely obscures surfaces that have nothing on them to reveal. waxing and waning, stuck between deflection and reflection. Nothing is finished, everything is complete.
