The London Fire Brigade has released its figures for the money it spent on rescuing animals last year, the total being over half a million pounds.  By far the majority were cats, with the fire brigade being called out to 716 ‘cat related incidents’ in the year.  The most money spent on one rescue was over £3000 which was the bill when two fire engines and a rescue vehicle were called out to the River Thames at Greenwich, where a fox was left stranded on the pier by the rising tide.  The rescuers worked for over four hours on what they called 'Project Fox’.  After this time, during which the fox watched them intently failing to rescue him, the tide went out again and the fox calmly walked back along the mud to freedom.

The Bard of Nonconformity: Bob Dylan’s Enduring Legacy
Bob Dylan’s enigmatic nature, profound lyrical depth, and genre-defying musicality have long fascinated audiences, offering a rich tapestry for exploration. His life, artistic evolution, and far-reaching influence on music, literature, and society are intricately woven, reflecting the complex interplay between personal heritage, environmental stimuli, and cultural impact.
Born Robert Zimmerman to Russian Jewish immigrants in Duluth, Minnesota, Dylan’s early life laid the groundwork for his empathetic connection with the underdog, a pervasive theme in his music. The strategic name change to Dylan, likely for a more marketable and less ethnically identifiable stage presence, highlights the challenges faced by Jewish artists in mid-20th century America, setting the stage for a career marked by reinvention. This duality of identity—between his roots and public persona—underscores the tensions between authenticity and the demands of a burgeoning career.
Immersed in the diverse musical landscape facilitated by powerful radio stations and the creative ferment of Greenwich Village’s Bohemian scene, Dylan’s unique sound began to take shape. His artistic trajectory, from initial homage to Woody Guthrie to the development of a distinctive style, demonstrates an unwavering dedication to his craft, prioritizing artistic expression over mainstream expectations. This nonconformist spirit, evident in his transition from folk to electric rock and subsequent explorations into country and western genres, not only pioneered musical shifts but also inspired a generation of artists.
Dylan’s influence extends far beyond the musical realm, with his work recognized for its literary merit, culminating in the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature. By weaving references to literary figures into his songs, he has democratized access to these works, bridging the divide between music and literature. His addressing of social injustices, as seen in his advocacy for Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, solidifies his role as a voice for the marginalized and a champion of free speech, embodying the essence of America’s founding values of nonconformity and expression.
While the pressures of fame, particularly the loss of privacy in Woodstock, have led to periods of reclusiveness, this has paradoxically contributed to the mystique surrounding his figure, cementing his status as a cultural icon. His legacy, therefore, is not merely a body of work but a celebration of the human spirit in all its complexity and beauty, standing as a powerful reminder of the importance of artistic integrity, empathy, and visionary pursuit in an era often marked by division and conformity.

scopOphilic_documentary_729 - scopOphilic1997 presents never before seen photographs from September 11, 2001 shot on film.
8:46am - American Airlines flight 11 attacks North Tower of World Trade Center.
It was a warm, late summer morning in New York City. These images are in chronological order from that morning and afternoon (Greenwich ave/Christopher street, Canal street, & Houston st pier in the West Village/Soho.)
Some moments in life are permanently implanted into our brain. A group of close friends gathered that night as we speculated on whether this was our last night on earth.
This 9-11 series were the last photos I ever shot on film. All seven sets of photos in this series have never been shown until today.

The New York State Urban Development Corporation saw in the piers a sacrificial milieu of impurity and devaluation. Rivera described the event as follows: “It’s called a sweep. Not even a fucking eviction. A sweep, like we’re trash.” [...]
The clearance operation of the piers took place under the New York Slum Clearance Commission and Law and its frothy utopian verbiage of “sanitizing” an environment [...] unsuitable for human life. [...] The demolition of the piers showed the violent clash of two confronting forms of urbanism. [...] [Manhattan’s] working class industrial base was transformed into a corporate and service-based economy and New York State Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, together with city planners, implemented policies to frame Manhattan as a place for work, but not living. [...] The rhetoric used by public and private officials to get rid of the piers was embedded in medical metaphors, [...] "blight" [...]. At the same time, these discussions were imbricated with racial depictions and xenophobic targets: most of the constructions beleaguered in this operation were inhabited or used by black people, Latin Americans, migrants, and displaced communities. [...]
---
The piers thrived with life. [...]
The notion of the piers as insalubrious areas that needed to be wiped out gained traction in the 1980s - during the peak of the HIV/AIDS crisis [...]. This narrative concerning the piers was active in New York City until the early 2000s, until Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor George Pataki opened the Greenwich Village segment of Hudson River Park on May 30, 2003. The highway was finally demolished [...] and a series of gates were erected to keep Pier 45 closed after 1am [...]. The previous residents of these spaces were just routine casualties. The new proposal opted for a unitary, straightforward, apparently open but constantly surveilled set of facilities, where constant circulation (by car, skate, bike, foot) was central, and framed the conception of the piers as a passing point. This contrasted the labyrinthic and fragmented former setting, with multitudes of hidden spaces that provided a sense of privacy and safety [...].
---
The history of the piers runs parallel to the history of the LGBTQIA+ movement in New York. This is where Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson decided to locate the first installment of [...] (STAR) in 1970 [...], a year after the Stonewall riots. [...] [D]uring the 1973 Gay Pride Rally [...], [Rivera] asked the movement to support [racialized, trans, gender non-conforming, homeless, and incarcerated people] [...] instead of just focusing on cis "men and women that belong to a white middle class club" [...] [which entailed] the negation of alternative forms of living [...].
Members of these groups were ostracized and deprived of typical considerations during the outbreak of an epidemic: protocols of announcement, transparency in information, research, and measure-taking. Meanwhile, the communities that congregated around the piers, and the piers themselves, helped spread information about AIDS, made transparent the available data, and offered care among affected communities. Groups and associations like STAR, Gay Men's Health Crisis, and Gran Fury were essential in this effort. [...] This environmental activism, where kin was formed [...], happened in places like the piers. [...] They were an escape from the constant scrutiny of authorities and from homophobic attacks [...].
---
AIDS' first name, GRID (Gay Related Immune Deficiency), as well as the common “gay plague” and “gay cancer” epithets, strengthened the idea of a specifically gay disease related to a certain environment-specific villain. Journalists, following the views of public health authorities, blamed the epidemic on [...] the places gay people frequented. [...] Physicians thus described a spatial configuration located in downtown Manhattan [...] which [...] posed a threat [...]. This claim had terrible consequences for the activist spaces and urban fabrics that confronted the epidemic [...]. The remnants of Pier 45 were demolished. The activist history of these places was “cleared.” [...]
---
When Sylvia Rivera shouted to the authorities “stay away from my house!” while being evicted, “house” not only referred to the physical construction of her home. She was confronting teleological progress with the project of a[n] [...] assemblage based on [...] mutual caring [...] and defying colonial narratives of race, sex, gender, and nature. The territorialization of epidemics, identities, and citizenship not only shape the built environment, but the built environment shapes them in return. Architecture thereby assumed the form of an expanded spatial practice [...].
When Rivera was trying to save her home from demolition, she said, “there’s so many fucking buildings in this fucking Manhattan.” What New York City was losing with the demolition of Pier 45 was not just a series of dwellings. It was losing a complex ecosystem of coexistence.

Lockwood & Co February Meet Weekend: THE TOURS!
This is information about the FREE tours to visit some of the sites from the TV version of Lockwood & Co. You DO NOT need to be attending the official meet to book onto the tours. You DO have to book, however!
George Gazetteer Tours February 2025 FAQ
The George Gazetteer team have planned a selection of guided tours covering the main London based locations for Lockwood and Co. Please find some information/FAQ below.
If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach out here on Tumblr, or if you would prefer:
Twitter @GeorgesGazette
Or via the Save Lockwood and Co discord message Alison (shenanigans same PFP as twitter)
Where will you be offering Tours?
Skull Tour - Meet at Kensal Green station and walk to Kensal Green Cemetery to visit key locations within the complex. Note: This tour involves a significant amount of walking on gravel paths. Please expect a degree of mud underfoot and exposure to the British climate!
Welcome to London Tour - A chance to follow in Lucy’s footsteps, this is the basic Lockwood & Co tour. We will arrive like Lucy at St Pancras station, visit 35, Portland Row, Satchells, Deprac and the “I quit” scene. This tour has an option to break for lunch and then join the Fittes House tour in the afternoon. If you intend to, please also book on the Fittes House tour.
Fittes House Tour - There are approximately 14 different photo locations at Fittes House, so we have given this site an entire tour of its own. We will show you around the building, and then leave you to explore and take your own photos in your own time. This location has excellent accessibility, facilities and food options.
Flo’s Tour - Possibly the longest L & Co tour, Flo’s tour is a trip on the River Thames, spotting L & Co locations as you travel. The trip runs from Westminster Pier to the Cutty Sark (excellent tourist destination in its own right!). At the Cutty Sark/Greenwich, we disembark and visit Crowley’s Wharf, the Cold Maiden Beach, and take a walk to the “Aspirational Alley”, and see the exterior of Joplin’s Flat. This tour is timed to ensure a low tide at the beaches for optimal photo ops. It will require you to join us on the Uber boat (small fee payable to the boat company on the day). We recommend you take the return boat journey back into central London, as alternative public transport is less convenient.
******It maybe low tide when we visit the Greenwich sites, any decision to access the beaches is entirely at your own risk. George’s Gazetteer and the Meet team cannot be responsible for any illnesses or injuries caused by people exploring the beach.******
The Villain’s Tour (TBC) - This tour forms much of the official meet events on the Friday so we will not be offering it as a confirmed tour. However, if you are unable to attend on the Friday but ARE around the following week, please contact the GG team as we may be able to offer it as a bespoke tour. Sites include: Fairfax Building, Winkman’s Shop, Bickerstaff’s Crypt scene and more.
When will the Tours be offered?
These will be offered from Wednesday 19th February to Wednesday 26th (excluding the main meetup days on Friday and Saturday).

Are these being organised by the LockNation Meet Up Team?
No, these tours are being organised and led by members of George Gazetteer https://georgesgazetteer.blog/ with the support and knowledge of our fabulous Meet Up Quartet. We are sandwiching tours around the meet up dates as lots of Locknation are around.
You don't have to be attending the meet up to come along to the tours.
If you have any queries or questions please ask or approach the Gazetteer team via the details above NOT the LN Meet Up team.
Are the tours compulsory?
No, not at all! The GG team are all volunteers who love the show/books and love showing Locknation members round locations! Several members of the team live in London and have a plethora of information to share! We love to do this but there is no pressure to get involved.
You can explore the location sites easily by yourself.
Just stay safe and we would highly recommend you go with someone else, particularly to Kensal Green. There are guides and information available at:
General safety advice for travelling/exploring London
Is there a cost for Tours?
The Tours are free of charge but you will need to pay for your transport (buses, Underground, Uber boats, Overground or Uber/taxi if preferred) to and from locations.
The Welcome to London and Flos's Tour both include travel on London Underground and Uber boats respectively as part of the tour.
Information on costs for travel/fares can be found here
Also please note refreshments/lunch will not be provided.
How long do the tours last? Are they all day?
This will depend on travel and walking speeds but a rough estimate is below.
Skull tour approx 2 hours
Welcome to London approx 3 - 4 hours
Fittes approx 1.5 hours
Flo tour depends on Uberboats but 3 - 4 hours including return boat trip.
The Welcome to London tour ends at The Barbican and we have arranged on some days for there to be a Fittes tour in the afternoon so you can make a day of it if you like. There will be a break for you to buy lunch in the Barbican or places nearby. There is no obligation to do both tours and if you prefer you could explore the Barbican by yourself or meet at the Barbican just for the afternoon Fittes tour.
Also at any point if you want to leave a tour early for any reason that's fine. We would just ask you to let your guide know so we aren't looking for you or think you've been kidnapped by Joplin! We might be able to make sure you get to your nearest tube/transport link and will certainly point you the right direction.
Will there be walking involved?
Yes.
The Fittes tour is based in one building but involves movement around the building. All other tours involve significant amounts of travel and walking.
Kensal Green (Skull Tour) includes paths that are uneven and can be very muddy.
It may be low tide when we visit the Greenwich sites on Flo’s tour, the beaches and steps to them can be slippy. .
We would encourage you to wear weather appropriate clothing and shoes. London in February could be a mixture of freezing temperatures, rain, sleet or sunshine! Keep an eye on weather forecasts.
These are volunteer led tours  We cannot accept any liability for injuries/accidents whilst on the tours.
If you have any queries please reach out.
Are the tours wheelchair accessible?
If you have any mobility needs contact the team. For your comfort it may be appropriate to arrange a bespoke tour.
The following websites have more information regarding accessibility in London
Are there toilets at all locations?
There are public toilets in the Barbican (Fittes). There are also toilets in Waterstones (Satchells - Welcome to London tour).
Some Uber boats have toilets but not all.
We will likely pass major stations and places like McDonald's where you can access toilets (may be charged). Kensal Green does not have toilets and there are limited opportunities to access one nearby.
Can we access the interior of any buildings, e.g Portland Row, the Black Library or Kensal Green cemetery buildings?
No.
The Portland Row location is on a street with private houses. We have deliberately kept tours small in numbers to not cause disruption. We would ask you to be respectful in all locations taking photographs and keep noise to a minimum. Please do not take photographs that could include the interior of houses. We would advise against sitting/standing on the steps of the house that was Portland Row, this is a private home.
Kensal Green is an active cemetery (I'm avoiding an ‘It really comes alive at night’ comment) There may be burials/services happening at times of the tours as well as people visiting graves of family/friends, we would again ask you to be respectful.
The Barbican (Fittes House) is open to the public but the room for the Black Library is not generally available to enter. We may be able to look through the doors depending on if it is in use.  It goes without saying but do not enter anywhere that is marked as private/no public access.
Please stick with the tour and guides at all times. Areas of Kensal Green can be quite isolated.
How big will the groups be?
We hope to keep the groups small, approximately 10 people.
How do we book?
A Google form will be posted on social media Saturday 18th January at 6pm BST
Places will be filled on a first come basis. You will need to provide the best way to contact you to confirm your place, this information will only be held for this purpose and will be deleted following the tours taking place.
Confirmation will also include where and when to meet and more specific details of the tour.
What happens if tours are full or I miss out? I can't make the dates you've advertised tours.
We cannot guarantee that if you apply there will be places. If we can't accommodate you due to the tour being full we may be able to add places - within reason! We are sorry we might not be able to fit everyone in!
We have kept Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th free to offer repeat tours if you cannot make other dates or would like to visit other locations such as the villain tour, Sheen road or locations in Wapping (subject to demand and availability of guides.) There will be space on the Google form to request this.
I've a further questions that hasn't been answered. What should I do?
Reach out on the contact details above! We'd be happy to answer any questions.

Greenwich Park - London 2018

What to Wear to (Pretty Much) All Occasions
SH is currently on holiday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain 🇪🇸 He was in his IG Live wearing the same Lululemon soft knitted over-shirt that he wore in a photo taken by a French fan in London. The photo was published on Thursday, January 4th. The fan recognised him when she boarded the Uber Boat at the London Eye and saw SH already on board with a female friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The photo was taken on board passing Bankside, in the background Millennium Bridge (or St Paul Bridge) Tate Modern, and Shakespeare's Globe (not seen) on the left of the photo. SH doesn’t look so thrilled to be recognised. It’s a travel downriver through the City of London & beneath Tower Bridge before travelling past Docklands & onto the Royal Borough of Greenwich. SH gets off at Greenwich Pier his final destination.
Tumblr media
On Saturday, January 6th, Charley McEwen, a hairstylist who exclusively visits Four London Salon on Saturdays, shared a photo of SH during his first visit to the Mayfair-London salon for a haircut in the New Year. The photo indicates the same salon as mentioned earlier, with a wooden panel on a white wall visible in the background. SH was seen wearing a Lululemon shirt that he had worn on previous days. As SH has had a hair transplant, it is always beneficial to have his hair taken care of by a male stylist.
Tumblr media
#fourlondon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SH seems to be travelling to Las Palmas Gran Canaria with hand luggage (travel rucksack?), so he is carrying some clothes and will wear the same clothes twice in a row or possibly for the whole weekend. Who knows? He might buy an extra shirt in Las Palmas or wherever he's going.
Tumblr media
He was wearing a double leather bracelet with a sliding knot clasp and no rings. He might have thought he could deceive by wearing a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, informing it was cold and rainy in Scotland. However, the sunlight in the room made it evident that he wasn't at home when his watch reflected a blue sky and a beautiful sunny day outside which he tried to hide quickly.
Tumblr media
He had prepared his behind-the-scenes make-up and added a hint of glamour which magically erased the frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead furrows, Visibly botox in the eyes, facial whitening and full face collagen bio-stimulators making his look ready for the beach 😎 ☀️
So, not everyone cares what he does or doesn't do (luckily) but he believes that his fans do care. To mislead them, he wears the same outfit frequently, possibly because he thinks he is important or because he's eco-friendly. He wears a flannel shirt that blocks odour-causing bacteria from the body. I just hope he doesn't do the same thing with his underwear, If they are not washed 😳 or he prefers going commando, with shorts on the Canary Islands Spain 🇪🇸 off the coast of North Africa which has an average maximum of 21 °C in January.
Tumblr media
But everything suggests He's mixing pleasure with business. There is a possibility that he might try to claim his expenses for the trip to Gran Canaria as a business expense through his company MPC. This is because he did an Instagram Live for less than 20 minutes during his holidays. However, expenses should always be reasonable and it appears that he has a hard life 🙄 or as always, he is living his life to the fullest! …..Livin' La Vida Loca!

Greenwich, London
I find it fitting that my last trip of the year was to the Prime Meridian at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. It's a nice end to a year of travel. We also visited the Cutty Sark, Greenwich Pier, took a boat on the Thames to Embankment, where the London Eye is, and Covent Garden for their annual Christmas display.

Sylvia Rivera
Tumblr media
Sylvia Rivera is one of the most well know revolutionaries from the stonewall period of gay history. Her and Marsha P. Johnson, another queen or trans woman, though the terms have historically not been very separate, founded STAR, the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries.
Though the sources that I last cited says that she led the charge on stonewall, the information on this is muddy and she may have not even been at the riots at all. Her account says that she was at the riots, but another oral account places her as passed out in a park uptown.
Regardless of that, she was still one of the most well known activists in New York. After the death of Marsha P. Johnson, which was ruled a suicide, she took to living on one of the piers near Greenwich village. Sylvia Rivera fought for the rights of poor queer people, primarily those who were at risk of other discrimination. She disliked the assimilationist gay movement, and she herself focused on the people she felt were being left behind by the wider LGBT movement.

Underrated and over-hated character she literally did nothing wrong and also that should have been me. I know she got her pussy eaten. Also I love Melora Walters.
3. Which character do you think had the best name?
LMAO wait this is a really funny question. Knox Overstreet honestly has the most fitting name though. Like. Yeah that would be the name of someone who wears a sweater tied around their neck huh.
4. What's your favorite poem in the movie?
Poetrusic by Charles Dalton :)
5. Do you like any ships? If so, which ones?
Meeks/Pitts! Obviously I do like Anderperry too. I don't tend to read a lot of fic to be quite honest because it's hard to find ones that I want to read. But the best couple is me/Charlie
6. What's your favorite headcanon?
This is hard because I'm not really sure. My favorite headcanons are all my own tbh................. The headcanon that Charlie and I moved into a studio apartment together in Greenwich Village in April 1961. :)
7. What's your most unpopular opinion?
Knox isn't a sexual assaulter and you should be allowed to have a nuanced take on him without being attacked. And I don't even like Knox that much. And while I'm here I'm going to play super dirty and say that I have personal experience with assault and what he did is literally fucking nothing. Chris did NOT care and Chet is physically violent and Knox is just an idiot. Chris didn't want Chet to hurt him! My other unpopular opinion is that I am allowed to have a nuanced take on Cameron and also still dislike him overall. I don't get why the fandom loves Cameron now and hates Knox. One is a fucking cop and the other is just a bumbling idiot. That being said I understand him as a character obviously and I understand the context and etc etc but also........ Don't care. Doesn't excuse his actions.
8. What's your favorite scene?
The third cave scene where Charlie brings Gloria and Tina to the cave, changes his name to Nuwanda and announces that he published the article in the school paper. Iconic groundbreaking legendary he ate that up gagged them served etc etc.
9. What's your favorite deleted scene?
The one where Todd helps Neil rehearse his lines outside in the snow near the pier. I don't think any of the deleted scenes needed to be included in the movie at all except for that one. That's the only thing I would add.
10. Do you have any songs you associate with the movie, or any specific characters?
Lol............. Vienna is about Charlie to me forever now. :(
11. If you had to assign the cast a flower, which flowers would go to who?
This is extremely random I'm skipping it cuz I honestly don't really care lol. I don't know enough about flowers.
12. What's something you wish they'd done in the movie?
Added in a sex scene betweI'm joking. This is a joke. I don't think they needed to add anything tbh. The only thing I would say I wish stayed in is that pier scene from earlier but the movie still works without it just fine.
13. What's something you wished they hadn't?
Honestly I'm thinking really hard about this and I can't think of anything. I'm dead serious I don't really think there's anything I dislike or think should have been left out. I guess in retrospect I wish they had changed the Knox party scene ONLY because of how insane it makes literally every other person in the fandom and how insane the discourse makes me feel. But I personally don't think anything should have been left out/changed. And I'm correct. ☺️
14. Do you like any poems not featured in the movie? Any you wished they'd read?
This is a funny question like are you asking me if I like ANY poems at all???? It'd be funny to be like, "yeah I hate poetry except for the ones they read in Dead Poets Society"
15. What do you think of the book?
Okay I feel very passionately about this. I HATE the fact that the book is so prominent in the fandom. SOOOOO MANY MOVIES GET NOVELIZATIONS. It is a MARKETING thing. It was SO common for movies to get a novelization tie-in based off of a script. It is basically film merchandise like a fucking t-shirt or something. The novelization is based off of an earlier draft of the script and includes a shit ton of stuff that was changed and taken out. Never in my life have I seen any fandom take this to heart and yet the DPS fandom can't get over the shit in the book. They treat the book as "canon" despite the fact that it's a bunch of shit that ISN'T IN THE MOVIE AND SOMETIMES CONTRADICTS THE MOVIE!!!!!!!! This fucking baffles me and I will fight you about it. It pisses me off like genuinely. It doesn't make any sense and I think the entire fandom needs to stop calling the book "canon" because there's so much shit in the book that directly contradicts the events of the film. Like what even is "canon" at this point. Enough with the fucking book bullshit!!!!!!!
