This painting is a visualization of potential for urban places, and specifically downtown Los Angeles which has been one of my home’s the past decade. . In many of my paintings I begin with a core feeling and prayer then allow myself to be guided on a journey to express this prayer. In this piece the buildings are mostly seen from above and have green rooftops producing food and creating space to be outside in beautiful gardens. The pipes bring the water that waters the plants and gives life to all, they are open, flowing and clearing. In the center is a portrait of a woman I met in dtLA at @peaceyogagallery who’s family roots go back many generations in this area. The title of the painting: ‘Xochitlanenzi’ is the woman’s traditional name and it means Flowering Sunrise. The Tongva & Gabieleño people are the tribes that were on this land before the settlers came and took this land, turning it into the place known as Los Angeles now. . LA is a place of great diversity and contrast. A place of dreams made and lost.
