We are so #ecofriendly at #Oregonstate we don't even need metal to staple! This surprisingly strong alternative seems to weave the papers together and came right out of our #office printer. My whole class was super excited, cuz we're environmental nerds, lol 🤓And now we're #savingtheworld one staple at a time 🌍🌏🌎 . . . #gobeavs #greenfreaks #environmentalartsandhumanities #osu #gogreen #greenoffice #officesupplies (at Oregon State University)

Why You Shouldn't Go Vegan
Let’s talk about veganism. We all probably know the classic vegan who always brings it up in conversation. Sometimes they can even be judgmental towards people who aren't vegan. Now, cutting back on meat is actually one of the best things an individual can do for the environment. The United Nations (UN) even states that livestock accounts for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. So no, I’m not trying to discourage people from going vegan or vegetarian. I myself have eliminated red meat from my diet and want to go vegetarian in the future. I simply want to address all of the factors that can make going vegan nearly impossible and why the blame shouldn't necessarily be placed on consumers.
A major barrier in changing one’s diet is accessibility. Many people simply do not have access to healthy food. The United States heavily subsidizes the meat and dairy industries by up to $38 billion a year. Additionally, “food deserts” physically and economically limit access to produce and healthy foods. Low income areas often have “limited access to [...] healthful foods.” Not only is meat often cheaper and more accessible, we must also take into account food preparation. For many families, fast food is cheaper and easier than purchasing produce that must be cleaned, prepared, and cooked. This puts people in low income areas at a significant disadvantage and makes it difficult to have access to healthy foods.
In addition, eliminating or even cutting back meat consumption is a significant lifestyle change. Meat consumption can even have cultural or religious significance. Speaking from experience, meat consumption can also have significant ties to masculinity. My brother and I do not eat red meat so we no longer prepare red meat in our household. In my Mexican household, meat was a sign of manliness, and making this transition particularly difficult for my father. Even now, a meal with no meat is not considered a “real meal” to him. Meat consumption is so ingrained into our daily lives and even cutting back can be a difficult process. Diet is a deeply personal choice and we need to end the judgement of individuals who resist cutting back meat consumption. This places blame on individuals rather than our society and the systems that encourage a meat heavy diet.
I agree that individual change is necessary to mitigate climate change. However, we need wide scale change and societal shift. We need political change in the agricultural industry. Shifting subsidies from the meat and dairy industries would make produce and healthy significantly cheaper and more accessible. This would allow consumers to more readily make dietary changes.

Love this extremely overwhelming green in Redwoods, literally everywhere, no matter where you are. Don’t forget to turn off your electrical appliances at the switchboard.
It’s a little known fact that TVs, DVD/Blue Ray Disc players, set-top boxes, games consoles, stereos, computers, microwave owns etc. actually draw power to run convenience features while they are turned off via remote control or via the push button on the device. Some appliances (like your entertainment equipment) use electricity when they are off to support features that allow them to: instantly come alive when you hit the ‘ON’ button (“instant-on”).
Mobile phone, Laptop and other chargers, if left plugged in, use power even if they’re not connected to your phone or equipment. Chargers use 1:1 isolation transformers for protection against the electric shock and also to suppress electrical notice in sensitive devices like laptop. Even if your cell phone or laptop is not connected to the charger circuit is open on the once side of the isolation transformer but the other side is still connected to power supply and is in closed circuit, consuming the electricity. In fact, a microwave oven can use more power and generate more carbon pollution running the digital clock than cooking food. This behaviour is much similar to that of our brain, even when not in use it still consumes energy(for “Instant-On” feature).
Over a year, this can all add up to 10 to 15 per cent of your power bill.
Now that we know what’s the problem, it’s time to work on a solutions :
Switching off your electrical appliances at the power point when not in use.
Switch off your chargers at the power point when not in use.
Increase usage of solar powered devices available in the market(Solar cells are much more energy efficient nowadays than they used to be but sill they have a long way to go…)
Look for new appliances that are ENERGY STAR compliant - they reduce the amount of power used when in standby or idle mode (but switching off is better)
Enable power saving features on computers, screens, fax machines, scanners, printers and other office equipment.
Choose multi-function devices where possible, to simplify power management and reduce power consumption.
EnergyStar® stuff leaks less electricity than other models.
My efforts on saving those units: I do make it a point not to charge my cellphone while at night (it’s like paying for something like 7 -8 hours for something that could be done in 2-3 hours), leave my laptop charger switched on while it’s not in use and to power-off other devices from the switch board once they are not in use. Recently I bought the All-out mosquito ultra machine with an auto-off in 8 hrs. feature, I often used to forget to turn that off.
P.S: Such articles are sprawled across the internet and you can easily Google your way to them.

What Biden's Administration Could Mean for Climate Change
The Biden administration is a significant win for environmental activists everywhere. Environmental policy was a significant part of Biden’s campaign and in the first few weeks of his presidency he has followed through on many of his promises. Biden has stressed the importance of the connection between the environment and the economy, pledging to create jobs in clean energy. Biden also focuses on environmental issues in creating his “Climate Cabinet” to restore both domestic and international climate leadership.
In his first day in office, Biden passed a flurry of executive orders, climate change being at the forefront of the policies. Biden rejoined the Paris Agreement, revoked the permit for the keystone XL pipeline, and “ordered federal agencies to start reviewing and reinstating more than 100 environmental regulations” rolled back by Trump.
Despite these monumental changes, I still have to wonder if Biden’s environmental policies are enough. We are reaching a tipping point where global warming may cause irreversible environmental damage. This requires global efforts to mitigate climate change, and I fear Biden’s policies may still be too limited. Biden has repeatedly stated that he will not ban fracking, an incredibly damaging oil drilling technique. Protecting big corporations and the economy may cost us our planet. We need to shift to a green economy and take more extreme action to mitigate climate change before it is too late.

So annoyed by people who get all preachy about not driving cars and walking everywhere instead. You want to save the planet, fine. But I've rarely been mistaken for a prostitute when I was sitting at a corner inside a Mazda.
