okay but whats funny is in at least one continuity, clark has memorized not just hals heartbeat, but almost every other vital sign of his. he’s got not only his heartrate, but also his normal breathing rate and the way that he walks normally. yknow whats really gay? this. thank you Neil Gaiman for giving us this masterpiece

the rest of this scene in particular (as well as the rest of the comic) is also incredibly good.
i think hal is just all uppity about it because he doesnt know that clark has it memorized for him as well lol. its one of clarks love languages (bc hes also got lois, jon, ma, and pa’s vitals memorized in the comics)
Clark: “I can hear Bruce’s heart, and I think he—”
Hal Jordan, about to become superbat’s #1 hater: “WILL YOU SHUT UP ABOUT HIS FUCKING HEART ALREADY?”

I'm crying at how sweet Clark is. And Hal looks real soft in his turtleneck.

From time to time, I would remember your story 'Green Lantern/Superman: Legend of the Green Flame' and I would be bowled over by how uniquely different it was. Not just story wise but also considering the pairing up of Hal and Clark which I rarely see in comics. Do you remember why you chose Hal and Clark to be the focus? Instead of the usual such as Bruce and Clark or Hal and Barry?
It was originally meant to be the last issue of Action Comics Weekly, and feature most of the characters who appeared in Action Comics Weekly -- Superman, Green Lantern, Deadman, the Phantom Stranger, Blackhawks, Etrigan (who became "Gintear" for reasons I forget), even Catwoman.
Here's something of the history:

okay, so i have read lantern comics, but i've only read them out of order and i'm looking to start from the beginning. sorry for asking this, but do you know what comics i should start with for Hal specifically?
again, sorry for asking but um. you seem like a good person to ask
I'm gonna give you the advice I give everyone who wants to read GL: do NOT start with the older stuff first. Start with the newer runs, since those are the ones that match the current personalities etc, and once you do that you are free go move onto the pre 2000s stuff.
So a reading order I recommend is:
- Geoff's Rebirth
- Venditti's run
- Morrison's run
after that, you can read the 90s to early 2000s stuff (you will find Parallax, Kyle's first appearance and Hal's turn as the Spectre there). Only after that you can go to the stuff before that.
For stand alones, I recommend:
- Willworld
- Green Lantern/Superman: Legend of the Green Flame (references a bunch of action comics stuff but you honestly do not need to touch Action comics to get it. It's a good character study)
- The Last Will and Testament of Hal Jordan > this one I recommend reading after Emerald Dawn I + II and Emerald Twilight all the way to Hal's death in Final Night. You WILL need that context, but trust me when I say it is among the top 10 best written comics of all time that were published by DC.
Aside from that, do feel free to pick and choose what you like best and move around based on your likes

Omegaverse AU, Sex Pollen Explicit | No Archive Warnings Apply Dick Grayson/Kaldur'ahm | Jackson Hyde Dick and Kaldur are on a simple mission to investigate some strange occurrence off the coast of Happy Harbor. It should be a simple little mission to retrieve some data, perhaps they could banter a little, maybe Dick could summon the courage to ask Kaldur on another date. They may be biting off more than they can chew.
Falling in Love in a Stolen Corvette by anonymous for SasheneSkywalker
Teen and Up | No Archive Warnings Apply Tim Drake/Roy Harper/Jason Todd Dick sees Jason fall to the enemy, Batman is certain his second son is dead. But without a body Arsenal refuses to believe them. Tim knows his best bet at rescuing Jason lies with Roy Harper. Explicit | Rape/Non-Con Stephanie Brown/Pamela Isley Vigilantism has rules. Rule number one: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Prepare for the worst. Rule number two: If a situation looks too good to be true, it is. Don't trust it. Steph finds herself backed into a corner with no way out, but she's not going down without a fight.
Wait That's Not What Omega Beams are Supposed to do, Is It??? by anonymous for somagni
Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics Explicit | No Archive Warnings Apply John Constantine/Clark Kent "They weren't expecting me. They actually set up a barrier so that I wouldn't notice them, except..." "'cept, just their rotten luck, it was across the street from you and your mates," John said. "And, when they spotted great old Man of Steel, their 'amateur magician' panicked, and hit you with a - what did he call it?" Superman looked uncomfortable, eyes flickering away. "I, uh... I think he was trying to replicate Darkseid's powers. Specifically, his 'Omega Beams'." "Your amateur magician was a fucking moron," John said, because what kind of idiotic human tried to summon the power of a New God? "Yeah, well, he certainly hit me with an omega beam." Superman's cheeks were pink, pretty and rosey. Kryptonians don't have a secondary gender dynamic, and neither does Clark... Until now.

Vikings AU Explicit | No Archive Warnings Apply Apollo/Midnighter/Jason Todd Their bond is something forged in fiercer flames.
Tara and Joseph by anonymous for lovesickseraph

And The World Keeps Spinning by anonymous for BearlyWriting
Mature | Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Mia Dearden/Jason Todd Everyone keeps assuring her that the Red Hood is as crazy and out of control as any other murdering creep in a costume; that she was lucky to survive. Some of them, like Batman and Nightwing, actually know the guy. And they have a lot of experience. Way more than her. They know what they’re talking about. It’s just… She is lucky she got away. Really lucky. Despite her training, Red Hood had captured her as easily as picking up his dry cleaning. If he’d really wanted to hurt her, it would have been all too easy. The only conclusion is that he let her go. It takes three days to accept that truth. After that… well, the floodgates have been thrown open. Everything that’s happened, all the shit she’s been through in her life… it's scary how easily she can picture going the other way, letting the anger and bitterness and bone-deep injustice lead her down a more violent path of vengeance and righteous fury.

How would you characterize Superman and Hal’s relationship?
The obvious answer would be Cool-Headed Leader/Loose Canon, but I prefer the Cooke/King take on Hal with a better head on his shoulders, so I think the setup of Green Lantern/Superman: Legend of the Green Flame where they’re old colleagues who’ve bonded on the job but who’re night and day in terms of how they live off the clock works well.

sometimes superman one-off comics are about teaming up with the thundercats. and sometimes superman one-off comics are about clark weeping as his mind and spirit almost break by seeing the extent of suffering and agony in the depths of Hell. and thats why superman one-off comics are good.
