This is just a smaller observation that will hopefully someday be part of a larger analysis on Kabru's view of Laios & how Laios impacts him...
But I think it really interesting that Kabru surrenders something for Laios twice, and that these moments are inversions of each other.
The first time, Kabru gives up his life to maintain his control. He changes the course of the entire story with this action, and is willing to die to achieve that. Kabru is (supposedly) entrusting the future to Laios, but he is still very much the primary actor in the overall narrative. He is still the one choosing what the story should be.
The second time, however, Kabru gives up his control to keep hold of something personal and selfish (in the way of dungeon meshi selfishness - it is a good thing to keep this desire. It small piece of what makes him a living creature). He steps aside to let Laios choose the way forward. He surrenders narrative agency for personal agency... not changing the story, but changing himself.
#dunmeshi analysis#dungeon meshi#dungeon meshi spoilers#Kabru of Utaya#Laios Touden#of course he DOES shape the story with this action bc this is dungeon meshi and changing yourself changes the story#and choosing to live helps the people around you#far more than giving up your life for the 'greater good'#I love that falling is present in both scenes too#even if it's goofier the second time lol#surrendering/falling/dying/descending into the heart of the dungeon#being consumed... letting someone else being consumed... trusting that the infinte will have an end (you won't fall forever)

This 20-yr old cartoon is basically the plot of Arcane
I'm not exactly surprised so many people jump to classify Jinx a terrorist since she kinda fits the Western stereotype of that (although that's debatable since she doesn't have a concrete ideology or organization), but I guess I'm a bit surprised the real world commentary is flying over some people's heads in a way that gets them to justify Piltover's response as valid or write off Jinx's response as unreasonable.
In my opinion Jinx was partially intended to be a deconstruction of the terrorist stereotype by interrogating what causes someone to be like this in the first place. They deliberately gave her bomb/ explosion motifs, plus she's literally firing a missile at a tower of politicians. It's meant to evoke a certain imagery but you're not supposed to stop there. Youre supposed to ask "okay well why did it get to this point and how could this have been prevented?" and the answer to both those questions is Piltover.
Season 2 takes this further by asking what's the difference between a terrorist and a revolutionary. It's not a coincidence that Piltover (the oppressive regime) is the one framing her as a terrorist while Zaun sees her as a revolutionary symbol. In reality, she isn't either of those things (not completely) but no one sees her as Jinx-the-complex-person because of the dehumanization someone in her role gets subjected to, from both sides.
Piltover and Zaun are not the same. I really don't think you can both-sides-are-bad this conflict at all, particularly when one side possesses all the resources and power for centuries. You can debate about whether it was handled properly because yes the writers have biases and I think the depiction of fascism and revolution was rushed and clumsy, but I do appreciate the attempt at real world commentary.
#and before anyone says anything no she didnt fire that rocket for Zaun. as i said shes not a revolutionary#her reasons for doing that are complex and personal and since she never explained it herself we can only infer#maybe i'll talk abt this again some day bc the way her mind works is fascinating. i love her writing#all the female characters are complex but her writing in particular scratches the right itch in my brain#the dehumanization she went through from both piltover and zaun is so good. the only ones who see her for who she is are isha and sevika#and even THEY are pushing her to be a revolutionary figure for the greater good#i wish more of the story was devoted to the conflict between the nations but it seems the plot is moving towards the magic elements#arcane#my post#arcane season 2#arcane s2#jinx arcane#arcane jinx#arcane analysis#arcane meta#arcane spoilers#arcane s2 spoilers

aside from everything else about durgewyll I am loving how it highlights wyll and gortash as narrative foils. both their upbringings lead them to interact with demoniac entities, both can only become archdukes and join baldurian high society through uldred, both are swaying the dark urge from simply following bhaal (and arguably the dark urge sways them from simply pursuing an ideal and the dark urge can recognise both as their equal)
and by playing your card right in act 3 wyll just...gets everything gortash was trying to get? wyll really is a hero saving baldur's gate from the legion of the absolute. wyll influences gortash's favourite assassin into becoming someone they can defeat the netehrbrain together. they can even become archdukes together! ...or they can turn it down and then they can go to he hells to sneak around and have adventures (like gortash and durge used to) and save karlach's life (the same life that is at risk because gortash mindlessly threw it away).
like. it's a lot, wyll and durge can even murder raphael.
#bg3#something something mirrors something something#wyll ravengard#enver gortash#this is not critical of gortash btw love whatever the fuck he has going on#also their upbringing...like yeah gortash obviously was sold to a devil by his parents that is not great#but also wyll indirectly has absorbed from uldred's teachings that his life does not matter as much as the greater good or the right ideals#and that is good but also wrong#i don't have the right words now to elaborate on all of that#throwing this in the void hoping that someone smarter than me gets inspired to elaborate on this#thsi was brought to sceleritas telling durge to never consider anyone else his equal and remembering that gortash always did#bg3 durge#durgewyll#bg3 spoileres#durge spoilers#EDIT: someone pointed out in the tags that gortash doesn't really want to he a hero and yeah but didn't really know how to write it out

Still thinking about just how deep in it Liliana Temult is. Like in the eyes of the narrative she went from
absent & possibly dead, very sad -> alive just estranged?? mysterious! -> possibly involved in a cult, tragic, can her daughter reach her? -> uncomfortably high up in said cult -> the cult's goddamn General and striking such terror into the local population of the Ruidus that they are afraid of even her appearance or someone who looks like her
Ordinary people who are trying to resist the dictatorial Imperium/Ruby Vanguard alliance and their iron control of the populace are terrified of her. You don't strike terror just by "being there". Terror happens because of actions. And it leaves us to wonder what exactly Liliana Temult has done during her time on the moon to make the citizens fear her so much.
#all of this has happened so fast#but I wonder whether Imogen mourns the version of her (dead/vanished) mother that she held in her mind#the one who was ostensibly good in that way children hope their lost loved ones to be (or at least not full ham evil)#Liliana has at times given off this vague air of regret - mostly regarding Imogen like 'i wish it wasn't like this but it is'#but in general that all this violence and terrorizing Ruidus and killing all the gods - it's unfortunate but part of the Greater Purpose#and that makes her all the more detestable tbh#she sees and understands and maybe even empathizes with those that have been or will be hurt by this campaign for Predathos#and has decided that it's still necessary. unfortunate but necessary. this sort of quiet and awful conviction#the kind of person who will hurt you while telling you it's for your own good and it's better this way#cr spoilers#c3e88#critical role#liliana temult#op

The fact that Viktor was right there! They were right beside each other and Five didn’t even look at him. Viktor who was his closest sibling and probably his best friend for all he knew the concept of it. Viktor who made him those disgusting marshmallow sandwiches for months hoping he’d come back to eat them. Voice who was all Viktor had when they were kids didn’t even look at him. The world was ending they were about to die and Five didn’t share a moment with a single member of the family he crossed timelines to save. STEVEN! WHAT WAS THE RECIPE!
#I’m not even that invested in the five viktor relationship but even I was stunned at just the complete lack of interaction#god I hate what that five x Lila relationship turned five into for the last hour of the show. he only looks at Lila only holds her hands#not any of the siblings that he literally crossed time to save#it’s almost like they forgot that five in season 1 didn’t care about saving the world he wanted to save his siblings#he held out for his siblings he broke commission rules for his siblings not out of the greater good#but because he thought they deserved more from life than to lay dead in the ruins of an apocalypse#it was an inherently selfish want and they fucking forgot it#god#tua#tua season 4#tua spoilers#tua s4#KC watches#the umbrella academy#five hargreeves#viktor hargreeves#tua five#tua viktor

goddamn. hanekoma. playing dealer with a stacked deck. arming every faction. placing eggs in every basket. bets on every hand.
“an inevitability”; that the proxy handpicked by the composer would be a fan of CAT, the proxy being a fan of CAT ensures a strong imagination, the proxy possessing a strong imagination means the proxy’s worthy, the proxy being worthy ensures the composer would pick him. it didn’t have to be neku, necessarily, but it always would’ve been. neku is at the mural, because he is the worthy proxy, joshua is at the mural, because he’s there to collect his proxy, minamimoto is at the mural, because the fallen angel has informed him of the composer’s identity.
shibuya being destroyed is an unacceptable outcome. the composer must be stopped; the proxy must change his mind, the conductor must win their game, or the fallen angel’s game piece must kill him. there’s a perfect outcome out there, but insurance is necessary. so kitaniji gets his pins, minamimoto gets his taboo noise, joshua gets a busted tracker, and neku gets a mentor.
hanekoma lays the groundwork for neku to become the kind of person that can influence joshua. “trust your partner”, the other various advice, telling neku some things about joshua to get him to sympathize. and it’s because he’s neku’s idol that neku tries to internalize it, because it’s CAT saying these things. and neku died because he loved CAT’s mural. an inevitability.
#messy!!#i don’t think hanekoma had any ill will for joshua— much the opposite. he clearly cares abt him#this world— the one that’s larger than i used to be— the optimal one— is one where joshua is alive*. where he’s been changed— made a friend.#but hanekoma loves shibuya. and views anything done to stop it’s destruction as necessary. for the greater good even#so he tried to kill him. indirectly. a couple times#he’s playing on a… higher plane. so to say#twewyposting#rambles#i like that one neku thought ‘wait— does mr h know joshua killed me?’ Boy Does He.#twewy spoilers#twewy

The worst part about trying to figure out what Crocodile's deal is that because he's so fucking irredeemably evil in Alabasta... Like... Yeah he's just irredeemably evil. Like I love him but he did cause countless casualties, a ton of pain and suffering and literally attempted to blow up a million people
Like no amount of theoretical "trying to do it to save his son from the Government" or "trying to stop the Government from hurting anyone else" or just "doing it for the greater good" is going to make him any less of a mass murderer
But also Robin absolutely 100% helped with all of that shit simply because she wanted to read the Poneglyph for herself.
No amount of her intending to betray Crocodile from the begining and sabotaging his plans erases the fact that Robin also caused countless people to starve to death and die in the civil war. Her sabotages only succeeded out of sheer luck, and only spared the lives of the people at the final battle. She has the blood of countless innocents on her hands. Because she wanted to read history.
But her crimes were swept under the rug because she has a sad backstory and her sabotages worked out just at the nick of time by sheer dumb luck
So Croc??? Just??? Is there a chance??? At all???
But also he did literally intend to sell Buggy into slavery
Like, fuck Buggy, but jesus
What's also killing me is that we like. Don't know what Luffy thinks of Crocodile right now. Which really is like. The thing that will decide how we, as the readers, are supposed to feel about Crocodile. Luffy is our POV
Like we don't know what Luffy's opinion of Crocodile is after he helped save Luffy (and spared Ace once) during the Summit War. Like Luffy clearly fucking hated the man in Impel Down and the two interactions they had during the War weren't like positive (in the sense that Luffy himself didn't think of the interactions as particularly positive. Defending Whitebeard from being attacked once and then being like "wait what HIM?!" when Crocodile defended Ace. To be fair, in the midst of the chaos, there wasn't much time to spend on Pondering On Such Things because Ace needed to be saved, and Oda goes out of his way to not show us what's going on inside Luffy's head, because it's all meant to be out in the open anyways. Regardless, these weren't like "yay it's Crocodile! :)" moments for Luffy is what I mean)
But also Luffy was very grateful of Law for saving his life and was willing to put his trust into Law for their alliance- of course, they weren't explicitly enemies to begin with, rivals at most, but still. Luffy respects those who help him.
But also Luffy grew during the timeskip. Like he's not that clueless anymore (like he finally understands Hancock is in love with him etc), and similarly Luffy gets that Buggy is an absolute loser now. But also Buggy did also help save Luffy's life (even if it was by accident), and while IDK if Luffy is aware of that, I don't think that helped improve Luffy's impression of Buggy
So like. The fuck does Luffy think of Crocodile, at this moment? Even with the Cross Guild reveal, he didn't even really comment on Croc and just focused his energy on being confused about Buggy being "the leader" of CG. IDK it feels almost intentional or something, that we don't know what Luffy thinks?? Especially since we did get Zoro's opinion on Mihawk in the situation?? Or am I delulu?? (Sidenote. I'd love to know what Robin would have to say about Crocodile helping save Luffy's life. What Jinbei might think of the final words Crocodile left him with before blasting them out of Akainu's reach. But mainly just Robin's thoughts)
Like IDK my best guess would be that Luffy still hates Crocodile just the same but is like grossed out by technically owing him one??? In the classic
-kinda way, you know? And that he'd be just kinda confused about it?
Because I can't fucking imagine Luffy being like "oh we're cool now" with Crocodile, let alone "Yay Crocodile :) He saved my life!". But also like. Luffy does kind of owe Croc one. Kind of. And Luffy is usually very respectful of that kind of thing. Aaaaaaaa???
(Also does. Does Luffy even know it was Crocodile who yeeted him and Jinbei out of Akainu's reach to begin with. 'Cause he was unconcious. Knocked the fuck out. Does. Does Luffy even know. Did anybody tell him???)
I just.
There's the reasonable part of me that knows Crocodile is an irredeemable evil dickbag and everything he has ever said and done up to the most recent chapters support that. He is too far gone.
And then there's the absolutely delulu part that loves a tragic villian who gets a heartwrenching redemption that's looking for any fucking sign that could indicate Crocodile could maybe be one
#Moon posting#OP Meta#OP Spoilers#Sir Crocodile#Crocodad#Haunted by thoughts of one (1) evil middle aged man#IDK I was rereading Punk Hazard today while on the train and just. God there's like no difference between Alabasta Croc and Ceasar#I mean there is but no there isn't. Dude was doing essentially the same shit just this time with much more child abuse#And we all agree that Ceasar is scum of the earth and irredeemable.#But also he was doing everything PURELY out of self-interest without ANY sad backstory to counter balance it#I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK ANYMORE MAN I AM LOSING MY MARBLES#Kuma Flashback I Love You but I need to know what the fuck is happening with Crocodile so bad pleeeaaase#There's also like that note about Kuma saying he'd be wiling to make a deal with the devil just to protect his daughter#And If Crocodad Real. What a greater evolution of that but being wiling to BECOME the devil himself to protect your child#Also sorry about the Buggy slander but also not sorry. All that man is good for is being a punching bag for comedy as far as I'm concerned#He's very funny I'll give you that. And I'm looking forward to him and Shanks getting married

Zephrah actively postpones ruidusborn births. It is believed that the actual number of ruidusborn in exandrian history is much larger than has been officially recorded because the stigma of it was so intense that people lied about it. Alyxian, one of the few recorded ruidusborn heroes of the calamity who received direct blessings from three different prime deities (our very own Changebringer, the Archheart, and the Moonweaver) , has been all but forgotten (read: likely erased) by history.
The Archive of knowledge that revealed the truth of Predathos and Ruidus was never some forgotten thing—it was intentionally hidden by the elites in Vasselheim. And we have no idea how long they have been operating with that knowledge. We have no idea what they have been doing with that knowledge, what silent wars have been waging for years or decades or centuries. But we saw what they were willing to do, in Hearthdell. We saw the violence and suppression they were willing to commit. We saw the pettiness of the exandrian pantheon in the Dawnfather’s response to Deanna’s: “Are you worth saving?”. In the Changebringer’s manipulative change of course in her pleas to FCG. In the Wildmother’s rejection of Opal. In the knowledge we have that Imogen spent so much of her miserable time in Gelvaan begging the gods to aid her to no avail—just for Kord to reach out only to demand that she not let them down.
Liliana’s point that Vasselheim and the other faithful elite of the world will hunt ruidusborn down to negate even the potential of this happening again isn’t new, it isn’t something this solstice and the machinations surrounding it caused, and it isn’t some unsubstantiated, fearful claim—it has been happening.
The vanguard—and Liliana—are unequivocally wrong in their means. But can you really fault them in their desire? Can you really fault the conclusions they have drawn from the experiences they have lived? If you spend your entire life being rejected by the people and the pantheon of your world for means you could not possibly control, would you not seek out someone and somewhere that would accept you? And if you found it, if some being that has been connected with you your whole life welcomed you home and wrapped you in an embrace that felt like your mother’s and says that it is starving; well, aren’t you, too?
There is likely a holy war brewing. At the end of it all, is it truly the sole fault of the people and not the organizations and society that expelled them?
#critical role#liliana temult#cr spoilers#bells hells#critical role meta#i understand that tumblr isn’t the place for god or vanguard nuance but I wanted to extend my thoughts here For Posterity#it just baffles me that some people still think Ludinus doesn’t very clearly have motivations of his own#and that the vanguard and liliana and very likely even the weave mind are all pawns in a greater scheme#which just kind of renders all the attempts to claim that empathizing with the vanguard means agreeing with Ludinus completely moot#and also just. doesn’t allow room for far more interesting questions about exandrian society and faith#and to be more clear. CLEARLY there are bad people in the vangaurd i am not saying they are good please be normal#in general i think people get really caught up in certain characters’ perspectives and not the wider ones we as the audience have#which. to me. is a loss. these are interesting and extremely relevant and poignant questions to ask

I adore how nuanced penumbra is in its discussions of morality and post apocalyptic capitalism and suffering and the human condition in a sea of infinite lives with their own need... And then you pan the camera slightly to the left and enter stage the tentative antagonist of the show "Dark Matters"
#Fully positive#I find this so charming and funny#tpp spoilers#Obviously any sympathy for Dark Matters can solely be derived from their lax justification of the perpetuation of a broken system#Like we have the perspective to see that but#At which point are you in the board office and you look down at your paperwork and the header is just#Dark Matters: for the greater good
