SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT! If you want to bring some levity to your reading selections, then you wonā€™t find a better book to fill that taste. What Happened To Ruthy Ramirez will provide the joy and cheer you didnā€™t know you needed on your plate. A wise man once told me; ā€œjust because you make light of a situation doesnā€™t mean you take that situation lightly.ā€ My šŸ’; The book title is more statement than question. But after reading the book, the statement becomes question. What indeed happened to Ruthy Ramirez? The answer is not really in these pages, not in the literal sense. Itā€™s more of who is Ruthy Ramirez? And we find out who she is through her two sisters and her mother, Dolores. Iā€™m not sure if Claire Jimenez was aiming for a comedic novel, but that is what she produced. The dialogue and interaction between sisters and mother is funny and lighthearted with a sense of realism. This is a hilarious read although the title would lead you to believe this is a very serious undertaking. And donā€™t get me wrong, the disappearance of a 13 year-old is consequential, but the novel doesnā€™t deep dive into the missing Ruthy, we get the effects of missing Ruthy on those she left behind. And those details are told with no shortage of straightforward hilarity that will give you laugh out loud moments. You almost forget that Ruthy is missing, until a reality show, called ā€œCatfightā€ enters the story and the sisters think they are onto something. And, the feel of the novel takes a heavier turn but the hilarity is still intact. So, thatā€™s a win for readers and a win for debut author Claire Jimenez. Thanks to Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for an advanced DRC. The book will drop on March 7, 2023 #ownvoicesreviews #bookpusher #pushingbooksainteasy #whathappenedtoruthyramirez #clairejimenez #grandcentralpublishing #readmorebooks #readology2023 #sundayspotlight2023 #blackbibliophile #latinawriters #latinawomenauthors #bookblogger #bookstagram #bookreviewer #readingismylife #books4usbyus #eclecticbookchoices #booksaremylife (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CokL0BALOgx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Another bookmail! šŸ“¦ The Ninth Month by James Patterson, Richard DiLallo Blurb: A mother-to-be is being stalked but no one believes her in this intense thriller from the #1 bestselling author of The Midwife Murders. Emily Atkinson leads a complicated life in New York City. Sheā€™s a successful marketing executive who lives in a luxury apartment and enjoys a glamorous existence until she lands in the hospital with a double diagnosis: she parties too muchā€”and sheā€™s pregnant. Her nurse and new best friend, Betsey, helps Emily rediscover how much she loves morning runs in the park and quiet nights at home. But as a series of women in her wealthy social circles go missing, Emilyā€™s pregnancy becomes decidedly high-risk. Thanks to @grandcentralpub for my free copy of the book. The Nervous System Reset: Heal Trauma, Resolve Chronic Pain, and Regulate Your Emotions with the Power of the Vagus Nerve by Jessica MaguireĀ
US pub date - 8/13/24
I was hit by a speeding drunk driver as a pedestrian many years ago. That led to numerous surgeries (14), early onset arthritis, nerve damage, loss of range of movement, and complex PTSD (along with other not-so-fun losses). A couple of years after this, I was diagnosed with IBS and wondered if it was connected. Once I reached 29/30, I had developed gastroparesis on top of the IBS. Iā€™m 51 now and Iā€™ve not had a flare-up of IBS in a few years, but the gastroparesis strikes more frequently.Ā
I didnā€™t grow up in a home where mind-body connection was ever alluded to - itā€™s only as Iā€™ve gotten older, lived more, and read more that such a connection has been known to me, and Iā€™ve taken some steps to honoring that - meditation, breath work, and EMDR therapy. Iā€™ve also only recently learned of the vagus nerve, and the possibilities now seem even more hopeful.Ā
With this new awareness, I was very pleased when Balance reached out, inviting me to read an early copy of this book - I actually downloaded this and began reading during a flare-up of the gastroparesis, and read this eagerly hoping to find some suggestions to implement.Ā
This is an extremely comprehensive guide, written in an educational and compassionate style that is both informative and engaging. The author provides comprehensive scientific information, exercises for the reader to partake of, and case studies. There is so much positive information within these pages and I personally found it an extremely worthwhile read;Ā  this is one I will definitely buy for my own bookshelf.Ā
While reading and trying some of the exercises, I look forward to incorporating even more of the suggestions in this book.Ā
Very strong recommendation from me.Ā
Thank you to Balance and NetGalley for the DRC

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT!! Itā€™s that time again. The weeks are flying by. And I hope everyone is taking advantage of the longer summer days and getting some reading done outdoors. Thatā€™s such a relaxing endeavor. This bookšŸ‘ˆšŸæ is one of those hate it or love it type reads. I wrote āœšŸ¾ This book was very busy. A host of characters. Not all fully developed. I like the way she built the story and snuck in the back story of Noelle that explains her marriage to Gee. Who we donā€™t realize he is THE husband until the young parts of Noelle are revealed. The book is really centered on two families and their different paths to lifeā€™s crossroads. You have Gee and his Mama as one thread and the other thread is Lacey May and her three daughters. The drama trio. I enjoyed the story and her prose was heady and the pacing was stable. The families tie in was quite clever and you must read to understand. Not a bad way to spend a few days. #ownvoicesreviews #bookpusher #pushingbooksainteasy #naimacoster #whatsmineandyours #sundayspotlight #readmorebooks #makereadinglitagain #blackbooksmatter #blackbibliophile #bibliophile #goodblackreads #netgalley #goodreads #grandcentralpublishing #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookrecommendations #readologist #readingismylife (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChPldBRrCVm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

šŸšØBOOK REVIEW Thank you Galley Match and Grand Central Pub for sharing the Blind Tiger with The Page Ladies. We enjoyed our trip to the 1920s! MURDER LUST MOONSHINE GREED ROMANCE AND SO MUCH MORE! This book takes place in Texas during the 1920s when prohibition was just starting. The prohibition ā€œnoble experimentā€ was first set to reduce crime and corruption, health and believe it or not to improve hygiene in America. In the end, it created the moonshine wars and the craziness that comes with greed. Laurel Plummer, her husband and their infant daughter have moved in with Irv, her father-in-law. They arenā€™t there long before a devastating event leaves Laurel alone in a new town and having to support herself and her baby. When she finds out Irv is making moonshine, she helps him expand. But as they grow their business, so do their enemies. Thatcher Hutton is a former cowboy returning home from the war. But when he is on the train home trouble brews with the other riders, so to avoid trouble he jumps from the train and finds himself in Foley, Texas. He meets Laurel on his way into town and is instantly taken with her! But when he goes to town, things go horribly wrong! I bet he wishes he would have just stayed on the train! Historical fiction, as we all know, is not something you think about when you hear the name Sandra Brown but you will not be disappointed! I couldn't put it down! The character development was wonderful! Add that with Brownā€™s specialty with romance, suspense and the research she did to create this story and you have a powerful read! Happy reading everyone! #galleymatch #ThePageLadies #bookreview #sandrabrown #bookclubread #grandcentralpublishing #historicalfiction #bookrecommendation (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR_-4rVLNSV/?utm_medium=tumblr

Thank you to @goodreads and @grandcentralpub for the gifted copy. "When you hear these stories and think, None of these stories are okay, you are right. And when you hear these stories and think, Dang, that's hilarious, you are right. They're both." Going into this one, the word that comes to mind is AUDACITY. QOTD: What book do you associate with the word audacity? FEATURED BOOK: You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories About Racism Publication Date: January 12, 2021 SYNOPSIS: Writer and performer on Late Night with Seth Meyers Amber Ruffin writes with her sister Lacey Lamar with humor and heart to share absurd anecdotes about everyday experiences of racism. Now a writer and performer on Late Night with Seth Meyers and host of The Amber Ruffin Show, Amber Ruffin lives in New York, where she is no one's First Black Friend and everyone is, as she puts it, "stark raving normal." But Amber's sister Lacey? She's still living in their home state of Nebraska, and trust us, you'll never believe what happened to Lacey. From racist donut shops to strangers putting their whole hand in her hair, from being mistaken for a prostitute to being mistaken for Harriet Tubman, Lacey is a lightning rod for hilariously ridiculous yet all-too-real anecdotes. She's the perfect mix of polite, beautiful, petite, and Black that apparently makes people think "I can say whatever I want to this woman." And now, Amber and Lacey share these entertainingly horrifying stories through their laugh-out-loud sisterly banter. Painfully relatable or shockingly eye-opening (depending on how often you have personally been followed by security at department stores), this book tackles modern-day racism with the perfect balance of levity and gravity. #GCPCLUBCAR #nonfiction #books #shortstories #ReadBlackstories #goodreadsgiveawaywinner #reading #bookphotos #booksoutside #libros #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookrec #GrandCentralPublishing #bookish #bookdragon #BooksofIG #lights #HachetteGo #ILovebooks #nerd #Booksarelife #bookaddict #racism #yellowbooks #ownvoices #comedy #diversespines #ReadBlackauthors #You'llNeverBelieveWhatHappenedtoLacey (at The Shops at Atlas Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKfFaPPgGgf/?igshid=zuc0d7wrnna7
