🧜🏻‍♀️ BOOK CLUB MINI REVIEW 🧜🏻‍♀️😩 BREATHE AND COUNT BACK FROM TEN by @nataliasylv was the July read for the #chronicallyiconicbookclub and man, WHAT A READ! We had the absolute best discussion, and every single one of us (some who have chronic illness/pain or disabilities, and some who don't) saw something of ourselves and our experiences in it. Vero is a child of Peruvian immigrants who was born with hip dysplasia. This means she has lived with multiple surgeries and tons of pain in her life. Her parents sacrificed and struggled to bring her and her sister to America (Florida) for better healthcare and other opportunities. She loves to swim and has a dream to be in the show at Mermaid Cove near where she lives, a dream of which her parents do not approve (look closely at Vero's shadow on the cover and you'll see 🧜🏻‍♀️!). This book is all about growing up and out of the boxes into which our parents sometimes want to put us, finding our own way and speaking up with our authentic voices, exploring sexuality and first love, living as an immigrant but also an American and straddling the two worlds, AND dealing with chronic pain and disability and all that entails (the doctors visits Vero had were so very familiar to many of us in the group). I loved this book so much, and I flagged so many quotes and passages that spoke to me (you can swipe to see one of them). I cannot recommend this book highly enough -- it will absolutely make my top ten reads of the year, if not top five. I want *everyone* to pick this one up! If you do, definitely let me know your thoughts. Book Review……..Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee With the tickets in her hand Valora is excited to board the Titanic. It has been two years since she has seen her twin brother & she is looking forward to reuniting with him. But when Val is turned away & not allowed to board Valora hides as a stowaway & disguises herself as a widowed lady. In constant danger of being discovered she should keep her head down but she needs to find her brother & convince him to join the famous American circus as a sibling acrobat. But that's not the only hurdle Val has to face in the year of 1912, America issued the Chinese Exclusion Act which would mean they wouldn’t be allowed to enter the country upon arriving. But Valora already has a plan to impress the circus master, become one of his acrobat performers, enter America & hopefully a fresh start for a better life. But the staff are becoming suspicious & there's the disaster that we all know is coming, time is not on their side. We had a wonderful time with this book! There are so many topics to touch on with this book it created quite a lively chat! The storyline had a lightness to it that there were many times you forget your on the titanic. The writing is wonderful! The descriptions were so well-done that I almost felt like was actually on the Titanic with them. The memories from the past were added in perfectly! Stacey Lee did a wonderful job bringing these people to life for us! The bond between Val & Jamie was great! You can absolutely tell they are twins! As a group Valora was a large part of our discussion. She is fierce, strong & of course her determination was a force all in itself! The ending was heartbreaking but it was also perfect! The author's note at the end detailing her inspiration for the story based on the 6 Titanic survivors who are of Chinese descent was absolutely amazing! I finished another book club read, What If It’s US by @beckyalbertalli & @adamsilvera ♡(•ི̛ᴗ•̛)ྀ I really enjoyed this getting together journey of Arthur and Ben. It was really cute, even if they did have their bumps in the road. 3/5 ⭐

The story is about friendship, love, mental health, grief, and kindness. The writing is beautiful, emotive, intriguing, and captivating with slow pace. The story is told in third person narrative from three perspectives- Jane, Siobhan, and Miranda. This is mainly character-driven story. All three protagonists are so much different from each other and have their distinct voices that never made the multiple perspectives confusing. They are most realistic, relatable, and developed. I liked Siobhan and Jane most but none deserved to be stood up by Joseph. I was surprised to see they all gave him second chance that changed their life. It was interesting to see who at last will be with Joseph or if they all will discover he has been dating three of them and kick him out of their life. Trust me when I say it’s not that simple and you’re in for a mind-blowing surprise. What I loved most apart from these female protagonists and Joseph’s mystery is their support system. Why 4.5- slow read than i expected. The Wolf’s Curse is a beautiful book about love, friendship, loss and grief. My son Jacks and his book club had a great time reading this book together! It's a beautifully written fantasy book! It's fast paced and has characters that will have everyone cheering for them! The wolf is the narrator in the story and she had everyone laughing! As a mother this book touches on areas that can always be delicate to talk about with our kids but Jessica Vitalis does a fabulously job! With the snarky wolf and the beautiful friendship that forms between Gauge and Roux gives the book a great balance! This was a magical read! The kids had a great time making masks afterwards!
