Book Review……..Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee With the tickets in her hand Valora is excited to board the Titanic. It has been two years since she has seen her twin brother & she is looking forward to reuniting with him. But when Val is turned away & not allowed to board Valora hides as a stowaway & disguises herself as a widowed lady. In constant danger of being discovered she should keep her head down but she needs to find her brother & convince him to join the famous American circus as a sibling acrobat. But that's not the only hurdle Val has to face in the year of 1912, America issued the Chinese Exclusion Act which would mean they wouldn’t be allowed to enter the country upon arriving. But Valora already has a plan to impress the circus master, become one of his acrobat performers, enter America & hopefully a fresh start for a better life. But the staff are becoming suspicious & there's the disaster that we all know is coming, time is not on their side. We had a wonderful time with this book! There are so many topics to touch on with this book it created quite a lively chat! The storyline had a lightness to it that there were many times you forget your on the titanic. The writing is wonderful! The descriptions were so well-done that I almost felt like was actually on the Titanic with them. The memories from the past were added in perfectly! Stacey Lee did a wonderful job bringing these people to life for us! The bond between Val & Jamie was great! You can absolutely tell they are twins! As a group Valora was a large part of our discussion. She is fierce, strong & of course her determination was a force all in itself! The ending was heartbreaking but it was also perfect! The author's note at the end detailing her inspiration for the story based on the 6 Titanic survivors who are of Chinese descent was absolutely amazing! Thank you The Book Club CookBook, Penguin Teen & Stacey Lee for sharing this lovely story with us! #GalleyMatch #TheLuckoftheTitanic #read #penguinteen #books #bookclubread #bookclub #ThePageLadies #BookLover #BookNerds #IGReaders #InstaBooks #bookaddict #GroupRead #BooksUniteUs #LoveToRead #BooksBooksBooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CayNzldrJFk/?utm_medium=tumblr

⭐BOOK*REVIEW.... First, I want to say thank you to The Book Club Cookbook and Avon Books. We had so much fun with So We Meet Again by Suzanne Park! That we all could relate to Jessie Kim made for a lively discussion for us! We have a lawyer, police officer, teacher, a chief, bank manager and before I became a stay at home mom, I was a corporate manager for what was called Flying J! So each one of us has had to deal with something similar to Jessie! So you can just imagine the discussion that this book created for us! Jessie Kim is a Wall Street investment banker. For years she has worked her butt off trying to climb the corporate ladder. When an opportunity for a promotion comes, she thinks after years of all nighters, layoff and doing Wyatt’s work will pay off. But in the end Wyatt gets the promotion! The last straw is when she overhears the sexist comments her bosses have to say about her is the final straw she walks out and moves back to her childhood home! Now back home, she has to deal with her domineering mother hooking her up with her childhood nemesis, Daniel Choi! Even though it’s the last thing she wants, she can't help but like him. “He was that guy. The obnoxiously endearing one who eventually burrowed his way into your heart.” Deciding to make a career change, she starts a cooking vlog! But her mother, not being able to help herself, walks in during her show! Let the fun begin! Even though she isn't thrilled with having to work with her mom, especially when past experiences had been stressful, she has to admit with her mom the show had become an instant hit! I mean really what else could go wrong? “Umma to the rescue!” It was a heartwarming story about family, taking a chance and starting over and believing in your own self worth. The relationship between Jessie and her mother is hilarious, but it also feels real. Oh, and just a heads up eat before you read this book it might help, but probably not with the hunger and the cravings you will get from all the delicious food you will hear about! Happy reading everyone! “UMMA APPROVED” #galleymatch #bookreview #bookstagram #bookrecommendation #bookclubread #womensfiction #thepageladies (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSvTunJL-z8/?utm_medium=tumblr

Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream. When he is blackmailed by the Secret police to become an informer he has only wo choices betray everyone or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe. Cristian will risk everything to to unmask the truth behind the regime, give voice to fellow Romanians and expose to the world what is happening in his country. He eagerly joins the revolution to fight for change. But what is the cost of freedom? I Must Betray You is a powerful and huanting story that we all actually finished this book within two days of starting it together as a group! Ruta Sepetys is an absolutely amazing storyteller! The character building in this book is fabulous! They are complex and real. You can feel their fear, strength and their courage! Cristian character really comes to life. It's intense, tragic and beautiful all in one. We didn't know much about this time period and we really enjoyed learning about it. The heartbreaking conditions and things that happened broke our hearts and their strength and courage put it back together! The author did an amazing job shining a little on such a dark period in history. It's a fast paced read that will grip you until the very last page! 🌟🌟Happy pubday to So We Meet Again by Suzanne Park! This will be The Page Ladies next book club read! Thank you The Book Club Cook Book & Avon Books for providing us with our next group read! So We Meet Again by Suzanne Park When up-and-coming investment banker Jess Kim is passed over for a promotion, laid off in a virtual meeting, and then overhears why (“she’s already being overpaid anyway for a woman” and “Asians are worker bees, not someone who can drum up new deals”) she delivers an “eff you guys” speech and storms out of the building. Not sure what’s next, she moves back home to Tennessee with her domineering Korean mom, who tries to set her up with her pastor’s son Daniel Choi, an M&A lawyer by day and a successful video game streamer by night. Turns out he’s swoony and smart, not the awkward preacher’s kid she remembers. With his help, Jess launches a Korean cooking YouTube channel focused on easy meal prep for busy professionals. All is going well until her mom walks on the show mid-live recording and argues about cooking technique. While she hates being berated by her mother in front of the world, it actually works in their favor—they go viral! Soon her cooking channel becomes an actual media company and brand. When a client is suddenly interested in buying Jess out, she finds herself sitting across the table from the very investment firm she quit not so long ago. But there’s just one other problem: Daniel, the guy whose been helping her and that she’s been falling for, is the firm’s new general counsel. #galleymatch #diversebooks #chicklitreads #contemporarybook #romancereads #avonbooks #bookclubbookpick #pubday #newreleasebook #ThePageLadies #lovetoread #bookstagram #bookrecommendation (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSH3AB4r9xb/?utm_medium=tumblr

🚨BOOK REVIEW Thank you Galley Match and Grand Central Pub for sharing the Blind Tiger with The Page Ladies. We enjoyed our trip to the 1920s! MURDER LUST MOONSHINE GREED ROMANCE AND SO MUCH MORE! This book takes place in Texas during the 1920s when prohibition was just starting. The prohibition “noble experiment” was first set to reduce crime and corruption, health and believe it or not to improve hygiene in America. In the end, it created the moonshine wars and the craziness that comes with greed. Laurel Plummer, her husband and their infant daughter have moved in with Irv, her father-in-law. They aren’t there long before a devastating event leaves Laurel alone in a new town and having to support herself and her baby. When she finds out Irv is making moonshine, she helps him expand. But as they grow their business, so do their enemies. Thatcher Hutton is a former cowboy returning home from the war. But when he is on the train home trouble brews with the other riders, so to avoid trouble he jumps from the train and finds himself in Foley, Texas. He meets Laurel on his way into town and is instantly taken with her! But when he goes to town, things go horribly wrong! I bet he wishes he would have just stayed on the train! Historical fiction, as we all know, is not something you think about when you hear the name Sandra Brown but you will not be disappointed! I couldn't put it down! The character development was wonderful! Add that with Brown’s specialty with romance, suspense and the research she did to create this story and you have a powerful read! Happy reading everyone! #galleymatch #ThePageLadies #bookreview #sandrabrown #bookclubread #grandcentralpublishing #historicalfiction #bookrecommendation (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR_-4rVLNSV/?utm_medium=tumblr
