⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Museum Detective is a very fun Dan Brown-esque thriller. Dr. Gul Delani has spent her whole life fighting, fighting to get access to an education, fighting to get her backwards, misogynistic colleagues in Pakistan to give her resources fighting to get the well meaning but racist westerners to take her seriously. Through grit and sharp elbows she’s managed to carve out a space for herself in the Museum of Heritage and History in Karachi, and despite personal tragedy in the form of the disappearance of her niece Mahnaz, she’s found a place for herself.
Then one day she gets a call from a narcotics officer who has found a mummy. This is the beginning of a mystery that will push Dr. Delani to her personal and professional limits. This is a page turner of a book, and the kicker is it’s based on a true story! Honestly, the biggest plot twist for me was when I turned to the Author’s Note and found that out. My jaw just about hit the floor. I was absolutely in love with Dr. Delani and her niece (who we get to know in flashbacks), as well as the other characters.
This book definitely had some debut moments, for example, the pacing got a little whacky in the middle, and sometimes it forgets that it is a thriller and it swerves a little too long into the literary weeds. But a very fun read, and I will eagerly await the author’s next book.
I received an ARC in exchange for this honest review.

I've finished three books lately--2 short stories and a novel.
The first was The Brave Little Quakeress by E.P. Roe. We follow a young girl named Phebe, who is living in pre- Revolutionary War America. Her father is an outspoken patriot and has incurred the wrath of his Loyalist neighbors. They attempt to come after him several times, but each time, his young daughter bravely rescues him.
The next short story was Queen of Spades, also by E.P. Roe. This was a very sweet story about a young city slicker fella, who comes out to the farm to see his girl. When he arrives, he discovers they are in the midst of a work day, and he decides to jump in and help. In the process, he greatly impresses his father in law to be, and wins Sue's heart even more.
The novel was Crude, by Mike Bond. This is a thriller, about the threat of a nuclear war. There were a lot of main characters in this one. The first was Ross, the CEO of an oil company called Rawhide. He is faced with criminal charges when his oil rig suddenly blows up in the middle of the night. The press tries to claim that it was poor maintenance that caused it, but Ross is, and always has been, a stickler for regulations. Liz is the only survivor of the explosion. She has no idea what happened, either, claiming it was fine one second, and then the next, everything exploded.
The charges of poor maintenance are not Ross's only concern. Soon, his company's stock plummets, and he is facing bankruptcy. When one of his closest advisors is kidnapped, and then killed, he knows something else is going on, behind the scenes. He asks a friend, Turk, to investigate and see what turns up.
Meanwhile, the president threatens to launch the nuclear missiles. He claims Russia is already making threatening advances into Estonia and America needs to protect herself. Ross fears this will be the end of humanity as each side launches their missiles and ends billions of innocent lives.
Can Ross and Turk find out who caused the rig to blow? Who is trying to take down Rawhide? Most importantly, will the president launch the missiles or can Ross somehow prevent an all out nuclear war?
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I am giving my opinion freely and am not being paid for it.
I liked this book a lot. I gave it 3.5 stars. It would have been 5, except for the objectionable elements. The objectionable things are not a main part of the story, still I cannot endorse this book for any Christian.

And the narrative is much removed from reality. “The ticket to emotional health, like that to physical health, comes from eating your veggies - that is, accepting the bland and mundane truths of life; truths such as “Your actions actually don’t matter that much in the grand scheme of things” and “The vast majority of your life will be boring and not noteworthy, and that’s okay.” This vegetable course will taste bad at first. Very bad. You will avoid accepting it.
But once ingested, your body will wake up feeling more potent and more alive. After all, that constant pressure to be something amazing, to be the next big thing, will be lifted off your back. The stress and anxiety of always feeling inadequate and constantly needing to prove yourself will dissipate. And the knowledge and acceptance of your own mundane existence will actually free you to accomplish what you truly wish to accomplish, without judgement or lofty expectations.
You will have a growing appreciation for life’s basic experiences: the pleasures of simple friendship, creating something, helping a person in need, reading a good book, laughing with someone you care about.
Sounds boring, doesn’t it? That’s because these things are ordinary. But maybe they’re ordinary for a reason: because they are what actually matters.”

............ #instabook #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #ya #bookstagramnl #bookstagrammers #instaboek #boekstagram #boekenwurm #dutchbookstagram #yainsta #dutchbookstagrammers #youngadult #yaroman #dutchbookstagrammer #booktrovert #youngadultboek #bookmail #boekenpost #recensieboek https://www.instagram.com/p/CicDlfkraAS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I meant to post this last Friday, but in all the holiday busy-ness, I realized that I totally forgot. So Happy Monday! . Over the weekend, I enjoyed an incredible psychological thriller that comes out later this month - A History of Wild Places by Shea Earnshaw. . It’s a story about a man with the paranormal ability to see after imprints of people. This ability makes him perfect for locating missing persons like the author he has been most recently asked to find. The journey to find her has unexpected twists, turns, and setbacks. . Behind this lovely book is part of my family’s holiday meal set out buffet style. We tend to put out all big meals buffet style. . Easy QOTD: Does your family set out big meals buffet style or all on the table? . . . . #historyofwildplaces #sheaearnshaw #atriabooks #psychologicalthrillersaremyfave #psychologicalthriller #losingyourself #thriller #thrillerbooks #thrillerreads #mystery #mysterymonday #bookandfood #yummysides #holidayvibes #justfinishedreading #comingsoon #bookstagram #bookbloggerlife #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #paranormal #bookdragon #bookdragons #bookrecommendations #booklover #booknerd #bookaddict #booklove #bookcommunity #bookobsessed (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/CW3Hezerquq/?utm_medium=tumblr

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Too many people do not know that Katherine Addison’s amazing Goblin Emperor has been continued on for many many books and has become one of my favorite cozy fantasy murder mystery series. (It’s definitely the coziest fantasy series that stars a mortician.) If you know me, you know I love a murder mystery, and nothing makes me happier than seeing the recent rise of fantasy murder mystery and space murder mystery as subgenres.
If you’re a longtime reader of the Cemeteries of Amalo series, you’ll love this newest entry in the series! If the first one wasn’t literally a fantasy murder mystery set in an opera house, this would be my new favorite. It’s still got Celehar being too self-sacrificing for his own good, scrumptious descriptions of food, a cozy feel that hides the deep interpersonal relationships that Addison continues to manage with ease. And your favorite characters stick around! The characters are so wonderfully drawn, and I love watching their relationships grow and deepen as the series progresses.
This series is an interesting one, because even though it’s set in the same world as Goblin Emperor, Goblin Emperor is very different tonally from the rest of the series. So here’s my guide to reading the Cemeteries of Amalo series for newcomers. If you are a fan of fantasy novels with political intrigue, you will love Goblin Emperor! It’s not got as much of the cozy vibe of the Cemeteries of Amalo, but if you don’t read Goblin Emperor then Witness for the Dead will be full of spoilers for Goblin Emperor. If you don’t care about that and want to jump into cozy mortician solves crimes, then you can start with Witness for the Dead as long as you’re willing to be confused for a bit.
Recommended for fans of the Tainted Cup, and Legends and Lattes.
I received an ARC in exchange for this honest review.

So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish - Douglas Adams 🐠 Book 37 of 2020 📖 Quick Review: 9/10 ✨ SLATFATF is the fourth book in the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy series. I’ve been reading them over the past year (as audiobooks) and I find myself laughing out loud at every single one of them. Book 4 brings Arthur Dent confused, but relieved, back home to Earth, having discovered that the past eight years didn’t really happen. Bewildered, he seeks answers, and ends up finding someone as confused as he is - Fenchurch. Fenchurch is a charming, shy, alluring woman who Dent instantly falls in love with - not only for her looks, but the fact that she knows a lot more than she’s letting on. Definitely worth a read - but make sure you read the books in the right order, otherwise you’ll never make sense of it all. #currentread #amreading #justfinishedreading #bookish #bookworm #scifi #douglasadams #solongandthanksforallthefish #hitchhikersguidetothegalaxy #audiobooks #borrowbox #booklover #goodreadschallenge2020 #bookflatlay https://www.instagram.com/p/CDoEJqugGxF/?igshid=gh2215faazen

Whew! I thought wala akong mababasa this week because of too much stress sa work. Luckily, I am able to finish The Kissing Booth 2 just now. As usual, it took me 3 days to finish the book. #6 #justfinishedreading #ebook #kindle #kindlekindlelittlestar #basabasadinpagmaytime (at Pasig) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCg3kCSpnjT5x9BldbULf9l_HzbszLftw5anAg0/?igshid=1v2ct6g7pnrar
