SSCA IDEOLOGY

Ssca history summery this needs updating.

First things first: are Ssca fascist? Yes. Yes they are. By human politics, Ssca are fascist.

But how? what MAKES them fascist? And importantly, what IS their ideology?

To Rikeuninerd such ideology is called “Kiaaa”, named after a terrorist group who supported establishing Ssca as a nation.

Kiaaa and Sscaaa (sect of Scyiaa) adjacent teachings are based of writings by Scrsysysa. Scrsysysa’s writings are interpretations of Scayiaa, however Kiaaa teaches them as by-the-book fact.

LONGING FOR THE PAST: In Scayiaa, Scyakade accidentally caused mass destruction across the universe, radically changing everything forever: this is why we have deserts and natural disasters. Ssca’s long term goal has been to return every planet to pre-destruction incident through campaigns such as “turn the desert green.”

They also aim to rebuild the 1st Ssca empire and reclaim former territory.

DISCRIMINATION AND PERSECUTION Ssca practice eugenics and enforce strict social rules. They exclude and persecute a large variety of ethnic, social and political groups: Nomads are associated with particular quasi-states, Ssca do not want them there as Ssca believe they have a given right over the land. There life styles makes them difficult to monitor, therefore they’re associated with crime. Many nomads are also part of other discriminated groups. Albino and leucistic individuals are discriminated against on the basis that whites seen as an unnatural and strange colour. They’re seen as evil and persecuted due to eugenics.

Disabled individuals, unless disabled because of injury, are persecuted due to eugenics. They may be allowed to live, however they are forbid reproduction: those with stigmatised mental conditions are often subject to capital punishment.

Sluea are Ssca’s major political enemy. Classified as terrorists, they’re frequently charged with treason, heresy and desertion. “Sluea” is Scaa for “political enemy” or “terrorist”. * -Practicing any religion that isn’t Scaaa is Sluea, however such individuals are called “Slueaaa” meaning “religious enemy” or “heretic.” -Anyone who opposes the Zyroo or government is Sluea. -Draft dodging, protesting, specific gestures and frazes, plus a plethora of other things can get you on the terrorist watch list.

SOCIAL CONTROL I need to work on Rike society more before I write on this.

IMPERIALISM AND WAR For as long as Ssca has existed, they’ve been imperialising. They do this with the goal of taking what they believe is rightfully theirs, ripping through Scayikra and later attempting the universe. Ssca’s militaries have a long history of looting and pillaging, levelling cities while relying more off fear and fire power than actual tactics.

Frequently finding excuses to start wars, Ssca does not refrain from getting involved in others political business: intervening in wars for their own gain, attempting to spread Kiaaa and Scaaa.

Those living in occupied territory will get evicted. Such individuals are frequently victims of genocide, unless upholding Ssca values.

GOVERNMENT Ssca invented early democracy, however voting only takes place once a former leader has died. By theory there is no political party, instead each individual is an independent, but because of oppression and corruption they all share similar ideas. There is also the Zyroo guard (I need to conlang up a name). Tasked with protecting Ssca’s interest and secrets, they’re the loyalist of loyalists who work for the government and can hold any position assigned to them. Ssca is also a theocracy, pretty much anything Ssca dose is excused by reasons of religion. Their laws are heavily dictated by religious doctrine, a Zyroo being a reincarnation of a deity killed by Scyakade. Eugenics? Scyakade fucked up and we have to preserve what is left, we have to go back. War? Scyakade said “defend your self”. Where just defending our selves :)

Ssca dose provide universal health care and public transport. Unless your a minority they don’t like.

*conlang is more complex than that. Sluea can also mean “revolutionary” depending on tone.

Ok so. I have a very specific interpretation of Abigale Blackwing/Northwest and I’ve constructed a whole narrative so I’m going to vomit some bullet points here because I’m CRAZY.

After the conference that got the Anti-Cipher society disbanded and had Thurburt Mudget Waxstaff III institutionalized, Abigale fled the scene for fear of meeting the same fate.

As an unmarried woman with an eccentric personality (and a checkered past according to my own headcanons) she would have been VERY at risk of being institutionalized as well, and mental hospitals in the early 1900s were uh. Definitely not great places to be if you’re a woman (Obviously it’s not great for men either but they did some real heinous shit to women specifically), and Abigale knows that.

While in hiding, a wealthy man by the surname of Northwest finds and approaches her with an offer; he would offer her safety from authorities and mental institutions in exchange for her hand in marriage.

Not seeing another way out, and her paranoia flaring due to still being taunted in her dreams by that damned triangle, she agrees.

She HATES her husband. Fucking DESPISES him. She hates their house, she hates how he refuses to let her tinker and invent in peace, she hates his rules and mannerisms. She is MISERABLE.

The only good thing to come from that man is their son. She ADORES her boy, and desperately wants to keep him safe and well.

Unfortunately Mr. Northwest is a huge piece of shit to both his wife and child so that doesn’t go very well.

Abigale feels trapped. She thought this marriage would cement her freedom from the asylum, but now she just lives in a different type of cage. She’s not sure how much longer she can take this before doing something drastic.

I have a different artpiece about that drastic thing she may or may not have done…. Teehee…. I’ll post it later 😇

Anytime I see discourse meant to divide the trans and queer community I look up trans art and queer art and I'm reminded of how many people create art to express themselves and create beautiful art and I'm reminded that the entire queer experience is vast and there's less people that want to divide and endlessly fight than there are people who are spreading art and joy and work to help make real changes.

A lot of times it feels like people think it's more important to endlessly debate terms and deciding who experiences what oppression or privileges instead of deciding to listen to each other and learn how to fight against these oppressive systems together and do the way more boring work of getting involved locally. You need to be able to listen to other people's experiences to be able to work together to defeat the system. Everyone who wants the queer community gone only benefits when we're divided.

Heres some resources to check out if you're in the US. A lot of organizations right now are dealing with way more people needing help with the upcoming Trump presidency.

Tillie uploaded a few previews of Book 3 on her Instagram. Most of them were on her story though so they might be gone now. I posted them on reddit (ew) if you missed them and wanna see :)

She always gives us teasers when I'm at work and can't post about them right away, but yes, I saw them!

There are 8 pages for Clementine Book Three soooo I'll share them here under the cut and give my thoughts for anyone interested.

So... Olivia's havin' a real tough time.

If you'll remember from Book Two, whether because you read it or because you read my in-depth review/analysis of it: Olivia's pregnant with a little Amos Jr.

Or, as I like to call the baby: AJ 2.0

I know the baby's not going to be named AJ... but god, wouldn't that be so funny?? Everyone else would be so mad but I'd be so happy.

Anyway, I knew this would be a big thing in this book since obviously, but also because Tillie Walden was pregnant while she was working on these books. Given how she creates her stories, and how she's talked about how giving birth completely broke her... I think it's gonna be a lot.

We see how Olivia's struggling to cope with the pain she's in to the point where she's just like "God, kill me, just kill me--" which is a big oof.

And like... the fact that we're starting the story off like this? I see that "Chapter One" there, this is the opening to the final book in the trilogy.

And honestly...?

I'm so here for this.

Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm the weirdo here... but I'm actually a little excited to read this whole thing because yes, give me the horror of a visceral natural childbirth within the zombie apocalypse.

We kind of got that with Rebecca in S2, but y'know what? Crank it up to an 11. If you're gonna go there, then go there. Book One could've given us cannibalism but didn't. Book Two could've given us frankensteined walkers, but didn't. Give me something.

I don't know if I've just embraced that yes, these Clementine comics aren't good successors to the games. Yes, the Clementine here doesn't feel like the same Clementine we knew. Yes, the clemricca romance is not great. Yes, and I don't care anymore. I do not have the energy to be angry about it.

I mean, yeah I care that this is how they're choosing to continue Clementine's story, but it's so far removed from the games that as far as I'm concerned, her story ended a long time ago. This is just a "what if" spin off, and no amount of "no, it's canon" is ever going to change that. Besides, it helps me view these comics as their own thing, as well.

Also, wait a minute... counting heads, I see Clementine, Olivia, Ricca, Fen, Saa, and Derrick... and one unknown person. With glasses.

Gasp, but that's Ricca's thing.

Like... this is a lot.

This is so much.

God, Olivia's sobbing and vomiting all over the place, she's begging them to kill her just so that the pain will go away... but it looks like they're in a safe location with a midwife, so... at least there's that.

But yeah, Olivia's gonna pop out that baby and I wonder how graphic it's going to get.. Like, it's already pretty scary to see them trying to roll her over and pin her down so that the midwife can push the baby over the pelvis on the next contraction... gaaaahhhh--

However, it's questionable if both Olivia and the baby survive given the whole "Clementine suffers a loss unlike anything she's ever faced" thing from the book's description. The obvious bet is that Olivia will die and the group will have to take care of the baby, but who knows?

Speaking of, I'll also share these from the article that posted the pages:

I don't know what else to say about these pages; we're in a new location with new characters, Olivia's having a baby and it's brutal... I'm interested to learn more about The Gardener and what the supposedly safe place is, but we won't know until July.

And yes, I've already preordered my copy because of course I have. When it does come out, you can expect another in-depth review/analysis of it in the "I read it so you didn't have to" style... AND I plan of doing a separate essay that's an analysis of the trilogy as a whole, explores the clemricca romance, dives into Tillie Walden's other works and what they can help us to understand the trilogy better, etc.

This is also another reminder to not be a prick. Leave Tillie alone. If you want to be mad about the comics, that's fine, but leave her out of it. Post about it on your blog, or go be butthurt on reddit.

I saw you had a post where you thought abt Dathomirian culture and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on how specifically Dathomirian queer culture manifests. I'd like to come up with things myself but I don't actually know a lot in general abt Dathomir yet, so I want other opinions. I've got two ideas tho

-Dathomirian queer ppl call each other "family" like some queer ppl did in our world

-Trans men might like earn their horns thru hunting and using animal bones and stuff as their horns? Idk like I said I don't know much

Good question! I haven't actually thought that much about queer culture in Dathomir despite having a gay nightbrother oc,,

I think the calling each other family thing probably wouldn't work very well since they already treat their clan as family and call each other brother and sister even without blood relation, but I love the idea of trans nightbrothers earning their horns! Dathomirians as a whole seem to be pretty open to body modifications, with tattoos being so natural in their culture, so hunting animals to use their bones or teeth or something to produce "prosthetic" horns sounds very fitting. It could be a whole thing for both trans and cis nightbrothers, using the extra horns as a way to show off their strength. plus it opens up the possibility of nightbrothers implanting horns in whimsical shapes such as smiley faces, stars or penises

I think as a people composed of multiple isolated communities, there's probably not a uniform queer culture across the planet. But also as people who tend to live in single-sex communities they are likely far more queer on average than what we see in the rest of the galaxy, like how cowboys were famously queer. They supposedly spend most of their lives around the same gender, so it wouldn't be unusual for that to be the gender they express attraction to more often. Though, much like how cowboys have been "reinterpreted" as a symbol of straight white masculinity, there's probably also a popular misconstruction of their culture as extremely straight, and/or extremely celibate. The "Nightsisters rule over Nightbrothers" reading of their culture is very obviously meant to show them as a reverse-sexist society, making the nightsisters a sort of "girl power" icon — they are strong independent women who can pick any man they want (implying that they do want men), which is like saying cowboys are strong fearless men who woo every damsel that crosses their path. which. sure, cowboys did have sex with women. sure, nightsisters do have sex with men. but more often than not they will be around other nightsisters, so they will more often than not have relationships with women (even if they're not really gay).

but I am not usamerican and my brain has the consistency of molten ice cream, so my knowledge of american cowboy culture is. basically just that. (the brazilian cowboy culture is quite different, especially considering there's like three distinct cowboy "sub"cultures, each with their different history, territory, and associations) So that's as far as I can take the cowboy comparison, but cowboys can be a pretty good source of inspiration I think. maybe look into that?

A quick look into medieval monasteries (another famously gender-segregated culture) says they were also pretty gay. And that the sexual persecution that is so commonplace in christianity today was not really a thing yet back then, which is also something to consider when trying to conceive the queer culture of a people who have nothing to do with our modern (overwhelmingly christian) society — do they have a reason to reject queer people and relationships, or are we just projecting our own worldviews and experiences onto a people who have none of the sociohistorical context that shaped our experiences?

I think homosexual/romantic and even polyamorous relationships would be pretty normalized, since there's not really any reason to only accept hetero relationships if they rarely ever live in mixed-sex communities. That said, there's probably still some expectation of heterosexual activity, in the form of the Selection and its implied procreation purposes. Dathomir is a very isolationist world, so to keep their population stable they need to procreate, even if it "goes against" an individual's sexuality. And this is where I think polyamorous relationships have reason to be encouraged: if a nightsister or nightbrother who already has a partner takes part in a Selection, why not bring their partner(s) into the relationship as well and increase the likelihood of producing offsprings?

As for the gender side of queerness.... well that's probably A Lot more complicated than I have time to discuss here. The gender binary seems pretty enforced in their culture from what little we see, and their sexual dimorphism probably makes trans and/or intersex people stand out A Lot more

I've mentioned this before, but I headcanon that the skin color difference is not a sex-chromosome-bound characteristic, but instead a sex-hormone-related expression of pigmentation, like in some birds such as peacocks. Both males and females are shown to have a range of skin tones, but in females it manifests as grayscale while in males it manifests as a color scale from red to yellow. So intersex people might have colors that are in-between, or that don't "match" their apparent sex, and trans people who undergo their equivalent of hrt might slowly change skin colors over time.

As for how nonbinary people work.... well as someone who is from a latin american country and speaks a romance language, I would like to imagine their "nonbinary" is a lot like ours — there is no "neutral" gender, they simply play with their presentation to be between one and the other, leaning towards whichever one might be considered more "transgressive" at the moment.

I don't think trans people would be forced out of their clans for being a different gender than everyone else, but it's possible their role in the clan might change to something more "befitting" of their new gender I also think there's probably a lot more contact between different clans than just the Selection, so it's possible for people who decide to start over as a new gender to take one of these moments of contact as an opportunity to "visit" another clan and never come back.

anyone who engages with my star trek opinions has to understand i categorically and universally reject section 31 from conception. it’s an ugly construction from rick berman that modern capitalists love to latch onto because it’s directly antithetical to the federation and what it’s supposed to stand for, which gene roddenberry intended and put together very intentionally from the start. you can complicate the federation without making it rest upon a fascist secret police that operates without boundaries, laws, or any federation ethics to guide them. i said fuck you to the plots in ds9 and i have continued to say fuck you and spit on “””section 31””” ever since.
