You hear it all the time. "I don't get involved in politics." Or "I don't normally get involved in politics, but this time..."

This can mean anything from "I only vote once every four years and ignore news between then" to "I don't care about any of it and I never watch the news" to "I don't get involved in the culture war but I always do my civic duty."

But calling it "politics" contributes to the divide in culture, and it plays into the anti-intellectualism narrative. From someone who grew up with that in their own family, "I don't get involved in politics" frequently means "Only smart people get involved in politics and all smart people are egotistical asshole teacher's pet people and I won't join their ranks." A high percentage of red voters feel this way.

Of course the reason they feel that way is they've been manipulated into it. But the thing we don't talk about very often is there's a difference between politics (aka the profession that politicians practice and go into) and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (aka you knowing that politics is the profession of government and how government affects you and how you affect politicians' jobs.)

You have no clue how the government works at all? Not even a grade-school-level understanding? Then honestly, do you actually care about the society you live in? Do you see yourself as having any responsibility to help build the world you want?

It's my world. I want to live here. I want to make it a good world and society and leave the people after me a better world than I had. So yeah, I'm damn well going to figure out how I can personally make changes in my country. I don't need my name in lights. I don't need a million followers for doing it. Or thanks. benson, im not super confident. i think he might enjoy some particular weezer songs (slob, tired of sex -and other pinkerton perhaps- say it aint so, paperface, maybe haunt you every day?) but i think the matter of it is, like, would he wanna listen in the first place? yknow? he listens to moistboyz which shares members with ween, and that listening base actually does overlap a good bit i think. but he leans heavier i think, like he's a motörhead fan... im overthinking this. my hesitation here comes from the fact that while i think he'd appreciate the garage rock element, benson seems to be the type to talk shit in the "they got bad when they got popular" sort of way, or generally laughing at its poppier energy. sidenote its funny that im so unsure of this when i am much less cautiously a benson lowkey country music fan truther, but i still think he'd be the picky type

ive gotta add moth's opinion too, which i also fucking love. they said that benson's generally insane social takes would include him doing the expected thing of shitting on like, the green album and people who just like weezer casually - but then he'd turn around and defend pinkerton with a legitimate devotion and argue for rivers cuomo as like a subversive important figure. completely in denial that the later music even exists or that rivers is a normal guy. part of why i like moth's take here is that i can totally imagine benson bizarrely hyping up rivers cuomo going publicly celibate.

randy i think has softer music taste from what we can tell in the intro scene, but its hard to tell bc i couldnt spot any music stuff in his room. he skips the more upbeat and techno stuff on the radio in his car though, and lisa seems shocked about him wearing a motörhead shirt. personally i think he'd listen to blue when he's feeling edgy? maybe when he's older he'd be like an ok human enjoyer, but i don't think weezer would really be his biggest preference.

benson would probably like will wood's lyrics particularly in the vein of culture-critical, suburbia-bashing, identity-desperate, sexually-uncertain and bitter-spoken. i think he'd prefer a LOT less of a theater vibe in the sound, though, and it'd be infinitely easier to get him to listen if it was the same amount of intense instrumentation but with, like, different instruments. so generally, no, even if he'd appreciate some of it conceptually. randy would be more accepting of the jazz, but less so of the screaming and more fastpaced lyrics, and would find a lot of will wood too overwhelming or garish. icimi would be a better album for him to try than, like, any of the others. so still probably a no. i think neither of them would actually find will wood in the first place, tbf - he blew up partly via like, cosplay tiktok and the parts of animation youtube dominated by deviantart icons? so he'd likely be out of their periphery. someone should subject benson to vampire culture though, at gunpoint if necessary

Alright, so I finally jumped on the bandwagon (for better or for worse) and redesigned the main cast of Hazbin Hotel!

Disclaimer: I am not saying that my designs are better than the ones in the show, I am just saying that this is what I would have done if I were to design the characters, plus addressing some common criticism of Vivziepop's character designs. I enjoy the show, and with that comes some artistic liberties. Proceed.

So I'm going to show each character individually, plus a brief explanation (EDIT: They were not as brief as I thought... I love these characters, so sue me!) of what I changed and why, and then a lineup at the end!! Stick with me please, I put a lot of work into these!

First up, Charlie! I had no idea she was meant to be based off of a porcelain doll. I thought she was a weird hell-vampire thing ngl. Fangs, pastey skin, you get it. The only thing the doll thing had going for it was the cheek marks, and I though that was a design choice for blush, like Mabel in Gravity Falls!

Porcelain dolls are really just those gen alpha tiktok influencer-level skin care routines plus dresses from two centuries ago, so I decided to go with a more puppet-leaning/mouthpiece design, plus some more goat-ish attributes, like her lil hoovsies!

Her color pallatte is brighter than the other designs because I wanted to show how she (while still utilizing the pinks and reds of hell) is the most pure-hearted of the bunch, as she's the only one who really doesn't belong in hell.

If this does well (or I want to) I might do her demon form!

VAGGIE! My girl. I love her.

So my main problem with Vaggie's current design: HER HAIR. I'm sorry, but how are the physics of that supposed to work?? Please? /gen

She also says in the show that she's "not used to fighting with long hair, and the ponytail in episode 8 doesn't really serve that purpose? At least from the viewers POV, hence the bun.

I know she's not technically a moth demon, since she's an ex-exorcist, but I wanted to lean into the imagery. She and Charlie look a little too close to human in comparison to almost anyone else, so I wanted to give her some moth-isms. And I find it more believable that she could fight like this! Ik Alastor's the hotel's protector and all, but old habits die hard n such.

Onto Angel Dust! Okay, I gotta say, I should lower his colors general brightness-

But other than that, I think I did pretty good with him!

I am probably in the minority who thought the eyes thing in episode four was pretty cool, but I wanted to make him more visibly spider-like, and eyes seemed like a good place to start.

I will admit to taking inspiration from the iron spider suit in Avengers: Infinity War for his extra arms. I was a Marvel kid, the legends are true.

Also, PINCERS! I think that's what those are called- They're only sorta there because any other way I tried ended with messing up his general face, but the thought's there!

His fuck-ass bob is NO MORE. I rest my case. Also the monocle was annoying me, so he gets old lady glasses. I don't know why his shoes look like deer hooves. he's a little fucked up anatomy-wise.

I don't have much to say about him, but I loved drawing his hair. He gets to keep some of his red, because he WOULD. I also have a design of Alastor with a coat/jacket thing that's more time-period accurate, but I really liked this design, so it's what you're getting unless someone asks for it.

I also don't have a lot to say about Husk- I took away a lot more than I added if we're being real.

He's also short and fat now, so... YEAH (for a while I thought he was real short, but that was only because I kept seeing screen caps of him next to Angel, and the guy's a beanpole-)

His wings resemble the succubi in Helluva more so now, because Hazbin has a weird relationship with wings, so I wanted to make the distinction clearer than it is in canon.

His eyes glow now because have you SEEN a cat in pitch black, dead of night? Scary little assholes. (/aff, I love my cats.) He's dead and in hell, so they glow perpetually.

As with Charlie, I had no idea Niffty was supposed to be a bug. This seems to be a recurring issue.

I shifted her hair and outfit to be a lil more 1950s-accurate, but it was pretty good before, all things considered. I actually like Niffty's Canon design a lot.

In terms of making the bug-ness more pronounces, I gave her antennae (they can glow because YES) and wings. I imagine the wings are kind of like grasshopper wings, so they make a lil weird noise. I also gave her four legs, because if there's one thing I know about bugs, they have an abnormal amount of appendages.

A Year In the Mess and the Millennial Cross Rory Bears. WINTER

Let's address the elephant in the room while I have you front and center. Rory in A Year in The Life was a commentary on millennials. Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator, confirmed this was the inspiration for Rory's turn in AYITL. Rory was saddled with all the complaints the previous generations have of millennials such as millennials are spoiled, entitled, privileged blah blah blah. Hey now, now that we have not one but two generations under us I do understand the desire to complain (and be terrified). Gen Z and Gen Alpha general aesthetic is to be Billie Eilish lite as in angry, depressed, violent, or, antisocial. They have the lowest attention span recorded in human history and Taylor Swift is their greatest philosopher. Jesus take the wheel

The problem? None of this was in Rory Gilmore 1.0-character DNA. Matter of fact who the hell was Rory in the revival?! What the hell happened to her? We don't know. The Palladino's don't even bother expanding on it, but who does?! When it comes to Millennials we're to be mocked not understood. Most millennials came of age where there was a horrible job, house market and were in an economic recession. Our lives were being taken over by technology and social media. Rory picked a profession that was still mostly print at the time of her college graduation.... this is an entirely digital market now and one readers now pay for if they want something of substance. How lucrative is a real authentic journalism career? Not just think pieces or a seat on CNN or Fox News roundtable?

This is why A Year in the Life was a Mess

Believe me, I wanted to love it. This is my childhood we're talking about here. I loved Stars Hallow. Love my Gilmores. Yet, when I finally tuned I did so when just a hint of dread.....gradually all my fears were realized. Thus after 6.2 hours concluded somehow, we got somewhere, nowhere, found out little, nothing at all, were satisfied and just plain frustrated. So, let's break this mess down by episode. While mainly I will cover how the revival failed Rory - I will mention other frustrations because I can.

Winter

Why is Rory only in town for a day?! She's gotta leave for London soon. What has she been doing?! Ok, she's written a piece in the New Yorker, but how does that work?! Are you on staff? Do you submit freelance pieces and they choose them? She's a good writer, she's always been a good writer, and she's shown she is capable of running a paper - why is she struggling?! They doubled down on the millennial annoyance by having Rory abandoned Brooklyn as it was going condo and Lena Dunham. Subtle.

Super-Proud Luke is and always will be cute and Rory is so his kid. He's now a subscriber to The New Yorker which he reads every week just to support Rory. Also, he's attached her article to his menus so everyone can read it. Which she treats as cringe instead of sweet and supportive, but I'll let it go. Luke, Lorelai and Rory really are found family and super adorable.

Yes, the bit about everyone forgetting Paul is funny but THIS ISN'T RORY?! Paul seems genuinely sweet and thoughtful not just to Rory but her whole family so why are we doing this? Again, this is someone's depiction of a millennial. I guess we're really shitty to great guys. Rory had never been previously depicted as self-centered jerk just slightly oblivious as well all are.

It's a thrill to see all the old characters make a cameo.

The loss of Ed Herrmann was a gut punch to his cast. You can tell. It's also serves as a gut punch to the audience. We will miss you old chap. Rory following Emily around at the repast is the first hint of old Rory we've seen on this show yet.

It also serves as another wasted opportunity. No one except Emily seems to be genuinely affected by Richard's passing. The Gilmores are a small family, but a tight one. The patriarch passing surely would've affected all three gilmore girls deeply. It would've been better had we found Rory on a cooperate writing staff in London (employed by Logan) that she quit to spend more time at home to support her mother and grandmother. It would've been nice had Richard's passing compelled her into finding meaning beyond professional success. It would've been nice if they showed her pursuing something related to Richard from a journalistic perspective. They could've showed her on the road chasing a story to run into Jess or Dean or hell any of the countless characters. SOMETHING. Instead, we got spiraling millennial which is continuing to just seem misguided.

Berta and her roving family is trash and I didn't need them.

Emily starts in on Rory current state of homelessness which bring me to my next point of contention..... How is Rory broke?! She's had Trixie/Gran, her grandparents, Logan, Luke and her father?! I don't care that she's privileged unlike a lot of the privileged but not as privilege youtubers who enjoy spitefully and bitterly complaining. Despite what these grips say no, Rory's success has never come easily to her. The reality she was studying and investing her teenage years in academic pursuits while Rory's haters were partying or watching TV. Rory's always been resourceful and yet can't find a way to make a steady income in addition to writing. What's going on?

April/ Knock-off Rory is annoying, and it doesn't escape me that Luke prefers Rory. I'm glad hehehe. I mean he has a kid biologically and yet he considers going to Rory's graduation as going to his kids graduation. Side note: I know the creators would like to pretend that season 7 never happened but what are we doing here?! LnL have seriously never talked about having kids in the last 9 freakin' years?! Well at least we know why..... miscommunication and we needed a way to write medical Paris Geller into the story. Surrogacy is actually perfect for a medical student that doesn't actually like sick people.

Okay Rory is writing a book with a queer drunk brit who steals food from other people, this is who she wrote her New Yorker piece on. This is the depiction of the feminist on the show.

I love Logan and I Love Rogan, but WHAT ARE WE DOING?! Why are they both having affairs with people they don't care about. Rory cheated once? twice?......okay Rory is a cheater, but why?

Paris and Doyle but of course they did! Can't have a happy couple in Stars Hallow or anywhere near it for long. I can see them having problems though because they've always had problems and sexually resolved them. Plus, in Paris's ideal functioning world she's married to Rory and Doyle.

WHY DOES RORY GILMORE HAVE ALL OF HER SHIT ACROSS FIVE HOMES?! How much stuff does she have? Honestly. Rory was always organized. At this point we've just got a personality transplant.

Once again, this is the main problem with the revival. None of this is behavior or characteristics we've associated with Rory. It's insert millennial here from a jaded baby boomer.

This is exhausting....................................... and I'm gonna have to take this in shifts. Next up spring.

Side note: Christmas here would be amazing and so charming.

Chapter Fics Currently Being Posted:

Petals (Dramione, Fae AU, Fated Mates) - Petals just kind of ... happened. It was meant to be a quick five-chapter fic, but the chapters kept getting longer and longer and all of a sudden I have a 90,000+ fic on my hands. Definitely the longest chapters I've written for a book/fic. I tend to like to keep chapters no more than 7k long, but Petal's average is something like 18k. I have no explanation other than it felt right.

Sacred Blood (Dramione, Mafia AU, Alchemy instead of magic) - I absolutely love Mafia Romance, and so it was natural for me to be inspired to write a DHr Mafia fic. This story took a back seat while I got Petals out of my system, unfortunately, it's been a hard year and Petals has taken an age to finish. But I can't wait to get back to my murder bbies.

Wings ... and Other Romantic Things (Charmione, Second Chance Love, Mystery) - A little romcom-esque romp. Hermione is forced to work with Charlie (an ex-fling during the war) when local Veelas are being attacked. Charlie and Hermione must solve the crime and catch the attacker, all while past feelings come back in full force.

Drabble Series In Progress:

Think Of Me (Dramione, Pierced C*ck Draco, Curious Hermione) - I have literally one more chapter to this raunchy, crack fic. I swear I will get to it soon!

Games (Dramione, Panville, Bluna, Theo/Padma, Cho/Dean, Ginny/Harry, Ginny/Seamus, Magical Sex Toys) - I get this one requested to finish a lot (you filthy heathens). I have five more pairings to do!

Ferrets and Fun (Dramione, Ferret Animagus Draco, Fluff/Humor) - I adore Ferret!Draco. Truly. There is no real plot in this drabble series. Just whatever inspires me. I should write another installment of his shenanigans soon ...

Lucius Malfoy and the Eternal Struggle of Being Him (Dramione, Lucius POV) - Same as above, no real plot, just dramatic Daddy Lucius watching his son be in love with Hermione. He's not bad in these, just extra!

Fics I am Currently Writing But Have Not Posted:

Magic Finds A Way (Dramione, Jurassic Park AU) - This fic is an absolute delight. I am actually really proud of it and all the parallels I've made to the original JP book and the films. But it will probably be a while before I post it :(. It's gotta be almost completed before I start to post and it's got to be absolutely perfect to me.

Demagogue (Second Gen, OG MCs but descendants of Dramione, Hinny, and Voldy) - This is my Magnum Opus. And like Magic Finds A Way, will not be posted until I feel it is perfect. But it's a twisty one, with lots of action, mystery, and pining romance. I can't wait to start posting about it.

The Perfect Alpha (Dramione, A/B/O) - I go feral for A/B/O, so while I'm surprised I haven't written more of it (only one little drabble), I am also not surprised. This fic is a lofty one, and my ambition for it has caused it to be put on the back burner. :(

Sad Eyes: The Expansion Series (Dramione, Theo/Padma, Blaise/Luna, Panville) I have three spin-off short chapter fics based in the world of my Sad Eyes fic. All feature a different pairing, tackling different types of trauma and how they heal after the war.

Curses of the Sand (Panville, Adventure through Egypt) - I started writing this fic for a Panville fest but fell behind due to school. I love the story and setting and pairing, so I will definitely be posting it at some point!

2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?

Petals at 92,642.

3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?

Demagogue. POSSIBLY Magic Finds A Way.

4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?

Too difficult a question. I love all my fics for different reasons and it really depends on my current mood and place in life that decides what I want to work on. I'm going through a rough time right now, so I would have to say Petals because Hermione is also currently struggling and it's nice to not feel alone in that regard.

But, I daydream about Demagogue and the Sad Eyes Expansions the most, I would say.

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

Magic Finds A Way. I am worried no one will care about it since it isn't the typical Dramione fic. It's science that has been twisted by magic and dinosaurs ha ha. And if it "flops" I would be devastated because I have literally worked so hard on the parallels between it and the OG materials and media.

I guess the same could be said about Demagogue. It's my baby, my most precious creation, and if no one reads it because it's second-gen and OG characters, with the main pairings fandom likes just being sided characters ... I would probably leave fandom lol, I'm being dramatic but also not really. I am not sure how I would take it if no one gave it a chance.

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

Oh, well, read my answer to the question above!

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?

Magic Finds A Way. I have two betas that have read the OG Jurassic Park, and also have a fandom friend helping me with the French Draco speaks.

I have the same betas for every chapter fic I write. They both encourage and rip apart my writing to help me flesh out every single aspect of my stories.

Drabbles? You get what you get 🤣 from me.

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

I don't really get writer's block. I know exactly what I want to happen in all of my story ideas, but I do have periods of time where I am physically unable to write whether that be irl drama, my health, or a busy work schedule that leaves me exhausted.

9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?

Demagogue! Yes! So, In this fic, The Cursed Child does not exist and my MC is named Hallow and she is the abandoned daughter of Voldemort, adopted by Harry and Ginny after the war.

10. Which WIP is the sexiest?

Well, that depends on what you like 😉

Creature fucking, particularly wing kink? Read Petals.

You into egregious smut? Read my Games series.

Sharp suits, hand kinks, and men who would literaly murder anyone who touches you---that does it for you? Sacred Blood is your jam.

They all have different complexities and characterizations of the characters we all know and love. I try to change things up with every fic!

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?

Lucius Malfoy and the Eternal Struggle of Being Him cracks me up. I love Lucius. And though Sad Eyes is about healing trauma and all that, I think there are some pretty funny moments and quips in that fic.

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?

Lucius Malfoy and the Eternal Struggle of Being Him, Lucius' POV.

My Sad Eyes Expansion fics as well as my Games series are both diving into pairings I have never done before nor see often or at all!

Petals has POV parts from Narcissa's and it's a really cool way to create an even bigger picture in the aspect of court politics within the fae realm. It makes the stakes seem greater than just Draco and Hermione being mates, etc.

20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs.

I have a song for every scene of anything I write. Most of everything I come up with is inspired by music. If you ever ask me what song helped me write a scene/fic/drabble, I will definitely have one to share.

Tagging: Look, I have too many WIPs to tag, so I am not even going to try. I also think this challenge has already made the rounds since I am so behind on doing it. So I don't want to bother anyone by accidentally double-tagging them!

Fluttershy is kind... to animals. But not much else. (aka Fluttershy is the worst, rant post)

1. Dragonshy episode - "But you're bigger than she is" so violence is okay? This was pointed out by YouTuber "Hoomanity T.V." when Fluttershy defends Rainbow Dash (who spent the whole episode trash-talking Fluttershy btw) from her actions against the dragon. This episode could've been resolved better, and my 30something work buddy agrees. (I got her to start watching season 1)

2. Phoenix episode - why would anyone, in their right mind, steal someone else's pet? Even if you had the best intentions, I would prolly lose my head if someone stole my furbaby. It doesn't even matter if you think you can heal said pet. In the first place, Fluttershy didn't even know what Celestia's pet was, let alone what was ailing her. It would've been more interesting if it was a pet-death situation, and my nephew thinks so too.

3. Bats episode - Tiktok videos like the one above have started to analyze the episode and have concluded that Fluttershy was really selfish that episode. It would've been fine if the apple trees were only like a hobby, but Applejack and her family literally depend on those trees for food and income. Not just that, but the Acres is a pretty large food provider for ponies. Fluttershy asking them to let the bats mooch off of the Apples is not a good way to teach kids about compromise. I know some smartass Gen Alpha kids that asked me "How long Applejack's gotta wait for those apples to grow back? Is Granny Smith gonna starve to death?" and boy did I realize why the kids I babysit would never like MLP.

4. Kirin Episode - Fluttershy did not wanna listen to Autumn's opinion because apparently having a voice and using it could hurt the forest. As Autumn Blaze said, "Rainbows can't light up the sky unless you let it rain," but Fluttershy doesn't care about that. Because Fluttershy believes there's only 1 correct way, and that's her way.

5. FlutterCord - My niece, nephew and bestie teamed up to tell me that I should never be in a relationship with someone like Fluttershy who likes to imply "Do this for me or else I..." she's dangling the proverbial carrot in Discord's face. AND HE LETS HER. Because he's so desperate for love.
