Don’t be fooled Eliza Neals’ latest release, “Badder To The Bone” (E-H Records) brims with original blues-rock-nine out of ten to be exact. From the first track- a #BoDiddley beater titled “#UnitedWeStand” - Neals’ #sultryvoice digs in and doesn’t let the listener forget whose record this is. Wrapped in smoke and velvet, gravel and silk, it cuts through the rich instrumental fury and sticks with you after each song ends, like a pleasant aftertaste in your ear. Then standout track on “Badder to the Bone” is “#QueenoftheNile” (from whence the releases title is birthed), which I first heard on SiriusXM’s B.B. The #Detroit singer/pianist has one hell of a voice and perhaps more importantly: the Lady got SOUL! With the help of some excellent musicians and co-producer #MichaelPuwal, Eliza Neals has produced #BadderToTheBone an album of tight, dirty soul blues rock. What is striking about Eliza Neals's vocals is that she has a bit more than her fellow singers; #moresoul and a rough edge. She never leans towards the slightly hysterical touch of those fellow singers. 'Badder To The Bone' has become a nicely varied album, because in addition to the dirty blues rock of songs such as #LockdownLove, #KingKong , #GotAGun and #UnitedWeStand there are a number of absolute #prizesongs on it. The voice of Eliza Neals is perhaps most effective in the wonderfully sung soul #gospel #Heathen and #FuelingMeUp. Also surprisingly beautiful is the version of the much-covered Stevie Winwood (Blind Faith) song Can't Find My Way Home, which is given a #heavy version with a great double guitar solo by #LanceLopez. And with Lance Lopez, the second ace of 'Badder To The Bone' has been named. The great #Texashotsauce guitarist, who also excels in the two versions of the #slowblues #QueenOfTheNile. With 'Badder To The Bone' the blues rock scene has become a #greatsinger richer. You don't easily find them this soulful and 'bad'!
