#OTD in 1688 – Goodwife ‘Goody’ Ann Glover is hanged in Boston, Massachusetts, accused of witchcraft.
The last woman to be hanged in Boston as a witch was Goodwife ‘Goody’ Ann Glover, an Irish laundress. This North End resident was wildly accused in 1688 of practicing witchcraft by the infamous Reverend Cotton Mather, pastor of the old North Church. Her Puritan accusers were caught up in a witch mania that was part of the rigid Puritanism of the time, attaching supernatural causes to things they…

Tell me your fave vaults
Okay, I somehow narrowed it down to a top five (honorable mentions are basically every single other vault) (except Vault 81) ( i wish the experiment actually happened and the overseer didnt shut it down i wanted the psychological horror :/ )
Vault 77- This is the crate of puppets vault, featuring the crate of puppets guy. This Vault wasn't a part of any game, rather it is from a comic that was promo material for fallout 3. and like, penny arcade understood the assignment on demonstrating how fucked up vault-tec is in thirty six panels. Like my one critique is that it's so short, but with the direction they went with the plot and the topics they tackled and it being 2008, it was probably for the best. Anyways the whole comic is free on the Internet Archive and its a nice snappy read (almost to its detriment like straight up plz someone get ari aster on the phone he'd make a fantastic adaptation of one man and a crate of puppets legit)
Vault 112- ooh hoo hoo unlike most vaults that I just remember from reading the wiki blurbs back in high school, this one was fully brought to my attention in a game of magic where i exiled a ridiculous amount of my library to get a winning card and also my missing dad (shout out to adventure costs!!!) and in that game i vowed to find it. I didnt know that it was a part of the main plot of fo3 yet but that didn't take long to find out. This is the creepy simulation one that i see as almost a proof of concept for the evil within vibes-wise (i fucking love the evil within series but thats besides the point). Legit terrified me in a way that should not have been possible (maybe im the one with unchecked issues that people being saccharinely nice to me sets off alarm bells in my head but it could also be that i had to get into a vr pod first) (who knows?) Anyways I proceeded to ignore like half of it and I'm looking forward to the next time i play and actually interacting with it a bit more (also one of my twelve fallout ocs is from this vault i made it work given this vault's canon ending)
Vault 11- Oughhhhhhh epistolary enviromental just altogether wonderful storytelling. the posters. The Posters! The ones that read "I Hate Nate" but the deeper down you go the more you find that have been graffitied to read "I Hate Kate" perfect wonderful amazing. Not to mention granting us with "Don't Vote Glover He Has A Family" which idk I love that out of context but I do. In context it's downright horrifying and the absurdity of it actually adds to the horror. Love love love Vault 11.
Vault 108- Gary. Gary Gary? Gary! Okay in all seriousness the story of this one is bonkers and also I'm a sucker for cloning (I had a cloning phase in third grade). Like, they found a guy that was going to die in a few months to be overseer so that there would be a power vacuum. Okay, normal social experiment for vault-tec. This eventually leads to them cloning a guy named Gary and then all the Gary clones killing the rest of the dwellers so now the only people in the vault are Gary clones. For the life of me I do not remember the chain of events that led to it and no i will not look it up it's funnier this way.
Vault 88- Look this one is boring to most people. Its a mix reviewed Fallout 4 DLC but dammit, I like getting to design my own Vault. As someone who got into Fallout because of the Vaults it was incredibly appealing to get to be the villain for once. And then I saw that my victim was this sweet guy named Clem (and also I was playing a goody two shoes but thats besides the point). Like I can tell they wanted to write Clem to be annoying so that you felt less bad basically torturing him but I found him so sweet and earnest I just couldnt. I fucking love Clem I would die for Clem hes like if a golden retriever was a person that I wanted to make sure kept his agency and autonomy. Plus it was really fun getting to piss the overseer off with some actually decent written dialogue. Like bonus points for that. And I still havent finished building the vault! amazing. absolutely wacky but also amazing.

Today's compilation:
Acid House Disco 1988 House / Acid House
First of all, can we just marvel at and appreciate how amazing the art for this release is here? It's not everyday that you come across a comp with illustrations that are this cool, and regardless of the music that may or may not sit on this record itself, this has to be one of the greatest front-and-back covers that I've ever seen in my life 😍. I tried to scan the liner notes to see who might be responsible for them, but I couldn't find anything, so hats off to you, whoever you are!
And now for the music. Acid House Disco is a comp that was released in 1988 on Warlock Records, a New York-based label that ended up being a pretty important old school rap entity, but also put out dance releases as well, and ended up serving as a vital launching pad for house legend Todd Terry too. In fact, probably the greatest piece of 80s hip-house that was ever made was a product of Warlock's own synergy, when the best of their dance and hip hop wings teamed up to create The Jungle Brothers' "I'll House You"—produced by Terry himself.
But this ephemeral record, unfortunately, doesn't have any Todd Terry on it. What this appears to be instead is a mix of different things: one, it's partially a sampler that includes tunes from the catalog of Warlock's own sublabel, Idlers; two, it has a few exclusives on it; and three, it appears that it licensed some tracks from Gee Street as well, a similarly situated label in London that also released both hip hop and dance music.
And there's some sweet goodies on it, folks! A couple of which were made by notable people who were just operating under obscure aliases and group names. For example, the release's penultimate track, "I Love You," which really hits its stride when it finally drops in its speedy Latin piano riff, is by a duo called Drum and Bass, who only ever put out one release together. But guess who made up half of that group? Youth, aka Martin Glover, the bassist from the famous UK post-punk band Killing Joke! 😯
And the final track on the album, which is hands-down the best one, is by someone who went by Nebula. But Nebula was just a one-off alias that was used by a guy named DJ Cesare, who was in super successful UK rap group Stereo MC's back then too. And his track, "Deep Space," is the only one that comes close to matching the futuristic dance aesthetic that's painted on this album's back cover. A full and thick house tune with satisfying string pads and a constant, acid-zapped lead melody 😌. Terrific late 80s banger right there.
So, all in all, a pretty decent house comp here. There's definitely a good deal of disposability to it, but there's a few tracks that end up saving it from having its beautiful artwork wasted on something that might've been so lackluster. And some of its best tunes come courtesy of people that you might not expect, like Youth!
Highlights:
Zizi - "Give and Take" Drum and Bass - "I Love You" Nebula - "Deep Space"

If you’re looking to hear the two powerhouses go at it vocally, tune in to “Dreamgirls” and “The Fighting Temptations.” But if you need a laugh, check out the only Black “Annie” movie ever made, starring singer and actor Jamie Foxx.
Check out this list of series and documentaries to enjoy this weekend in honor of Black Music Month.
Amazon Prime
Dreamgirls (2006) Beyoncé also starred in the dazzling adaption of the Broadway musical about a 1960s girl group. She played Deena and Jennifer Hudson played Effie White, the latter for which Hudson won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The film also starred Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Loretta Devine, Danny Glover, and Anika Noni Rose as the group’s third member, Lorrell. The film details their development as artists and singers.
Respect (2021) In this autobiographical film, Hudson played the lead as the legendary Aretha Franklin. The movie documents her adolescent years singing in her father’s church choir to her rise to international fame. Marlon Wayans plays Franklin’s ex-husband and former manager, Ted White, and Mary J. Blige portrays vocalist Dinah Washington.
Ray (2004) Embattled actor Jamie Foxx portrays the life story and career of legendary R&B and blues musician Ray Charles. The biographical musical follows his impoverished beginnings in the South to touring under Jim Crow laws as a successful artist. He goes on to get married and have children, but his addiction to heroin never strayed too far away. After a series of arrests and a rehab stint, Charles regained his strength to make a brave comeback and enjoy decades of music success.
School Daze (1988) Spike Lee wrote and directed the musical comedy starring Laurence Fishburne, Tisha Campbell, Samuel L. Jackson, Jasmine Guy, and many others. The Morehouse graduate explored the socio-political and economic issues surrounding students at historically black colleges and universities.
The Fighting Temptations (2003) Beyoncé and Cuba Gooding Jr. star in this musical comedy about an ad executive who loses his job and leaves the Big Apple. He heads to Georgia to collect his aunt’s inheritance, where he leads a gospel choir to victory in a citywide competition. Other supporting cast members include LaTanya Richardson, Mike Epps, Chloe Bailey, Steve Harvey, Melba Moore, Shirley Caesar, Ann Nesby and Angie Stone.
Apple TV
Carmen: A Hip Hopera (2001) An oldie but goodie is this musical drama starring Beyoncé, Mekhi Phifer, Mos Def, Bow Wow, Erykah Badu, Wyclef Jean, Da Brat, Jermaine Dupri, Fred Williamson, and more. A beautiful woman with a hypnotizing face and body can have any man she wants. She chooses a cop who loses his job after spending one night with her. They both end up on the run from the police, but the biggest dreamer doesn’t make it out alive.
Purple Rain (1984) Minneapolis native Prince plays a young artist with an abusive at-home living situation. The club singer creates a band to compete with a rival singer and explore new love. The film’s name is the same as the late singer’s sixth studio album.
The Wiz (1978) The beloved feature film includes an all-Black cast, compared to its original 1993 film starring Judy Garland in the lead role of Dorothy. In the musical drama, Diana Ross plays Dorothy, Michael Jackson plays the Scarecrow, Richard Pryor as the Wiz, Nipsey Russell as the Tin Man, and Ted Ross as the Cowardly Lion. They work together to get to overcome obstacles and meet their destinies at the end of the yellow brick road.
Tina Turner What’s Love Got to Do With It (1993) Two months before her passing, Tina Turner praised Angela Bassett’s portrayal of her in the biopic. It was based on Turner’s 1986 autobiography, “I, Tina: My Life Story,” and depicted her years of abuse during her marriage to her then-husband Ike Turner, played by Fishburne. Despite being the actress being snubbed an Oscar for her role, Turner said she felt “honored” by Bassett’s portrayal in the film.
BET+
The New Edition Story (2017) The three-part miniseries about the legendary R&B group begins with five childhood friends who become international sensations while growing up in Boston. As they quickly emerge into the spotlight, various obstacles strain their finances, friendship, and future. The film led to “The Bobby Brown Story.”
Disney Plus
Black Nativity (2013) Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Tyrese, Jack Latimore, Jennifer Hudson, and more shocked fans with their vocals in their musical adaption of Langston Hughes’ 1961 play. In the all-Black cast film, a teen from Baltimore moves in with his estranged grandparents. Unhappy with their strict rules, he goes out into the street to find his own way.
Let It Shine (2012) This film’s cast includes a few veteran actors and a bevy of actors who are being given flowers. “Abottt Elementary” star Tyler James Williams plays Cyrus, a teenage rapper looking to impress Roxie, played by “ICU” singer and ‘Bel-Air” actress Coco Jones. He battles his nemesis under an alias and wins with a rhyme about his lady. Sadly, he gets no credit for it but ultimately wins Roxie’s heart.
HBO Max
Straight Outta Compton (2015) Based on a true story about the rap group N.W.A., “Straight Outta Compton” sees six men in Compton, Los Angeles, who pushed the boundaries and revolutionized hip-hop culture with gritty rap lyrics and their dealings with Suge Knight. O’Shea Jackson Jr. stars as the younger version of his father Ice Cube in the biographical drama, alongside Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Neil Brown Jr., Aldis Hodge, and Brandon Lafourch to make up the famed group.
Hulu
Cadillac Records (2008) Cedric the Entertainer plays music artist Willie Dixon and is the narrator of the rock ’n’ roll film full of great acting and great music. It details the rise and fall of Chess Records, the Chicago blues label owned by a Polish immigrant played by Adrien Broady’s character Leonard Chess. He launched the careers of late great musicians such as Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, and Etta James, the latter of whom was portrayed by Beyoncé.
Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary (2016) This passionate story tells the portrait of an unconventional jazz musician whose music refined music and continues to impact, influence, and transform other people’s lives. It features more interviews and little anecdotes about his life with narration from Denzel Washington.
Summer Of Soul (2021) Questlove made his filmmaking debut after premiering this movie at the Sundance Film Festival. The music documentary features six weeks of footage taken in the summer of 1969 in the aftermath of Black Creativity and the civil rights movement. The classic concert film looks back at a group of blues, gospel, and rock ‘n’ soul artists who performed at the Harlem Cultural Festival at Mount Morris Park. It includes performances from Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Mavis Staples, Sly & The Family Stone, and more.
Netflix
Get On Up (2014) Actor Chadwick Boseman portrayed the legendary James Brown in the biopic that explores Brown’s life, music, and presence on stages worldwide. It follows the music legend’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming of the most influential artists of the civil rights movement.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020) This marks Boseman’s last movie before his unexpected passing. The new adaptation of August Wilson’s play tackles hard issues like race, art, and the exploitation of black artists in the 1920s. Viola Davis gave viewers a riveting performance as Ma Rainey, who never failed to hold back when she wasn’t satisfied with a song. Most of the film is recorded in a studio as she prepares to record new music for an album while clashing with white producers.
Sparkle (2012) Jordin Sparks made her feature film debut in this remake of the original 1976 film alongside industry vets like Derek Luke, Mike Epps, and the late singer Whitney Houston. She plays a child prodigy who sings in a group with her two sisters. Set in 1968, Detroit, the musical trio have hopes of signing a record, which seems far in the future due to one sister’s drug habit and Houston’s role as an over-protective mother. The “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” singer died in February 2012, months before the film was released in theaters. The original “Sparkle,” starring Lonette McKee and Irene Cara — also is available to stream, on Amazon Prime.
The Get Down (2016) The hip-hop-themed drama is set in the South Bronx, known as the birthplace of hip-hop and has been since the 1970s. It follows a small crew of teens who dance or create music. Production reportedly spent over $120 million to make the film, making it the most expensive production in Netflix history. Each episode takes a deeper dive into the rise of hip-hop and disco music.
Starz
Annie (2014) The musical starring Jamie Foxx finds Quvenzhané Wallis as the first Black Annie. The orphan unexpectedly meets wealthy businessman Will Stacks, who uses her to help with his mayoral campaign. The funny satire has quiet moments, sad moments, and performances of “Tomorrow” and “Hard-Knock Life.” She eventually moves in with Stacks, and the two build a bond similar to the one depicted between Annie and her benefactor Daddy Warbucks in the 1932 “Little Orphan Annie” classic.
YouTube
The Jacksons: An American Dream (1992) In the film, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs and Angela Bassett play Joseph and Katherine Jackson, the parents of Michael Jackson and his nine siblings. The five-hour miniseries tells the captivating story of how five Jackson siblings became one of the most iconic boy groups in music history. Their unique sound came out of Gary, Indiana, and took over the music industry for years.

TWoW speculation..
I mentioned this GRRM SSM the other day in one of my posts and completely missed a key name in his answer!
GRRM SSM, 2000
Q: I have a question, since Robb actually legitimized Jon and named him his heir for Winterfell and the North before the Red Wedding (granted no one knows about this and is still alive or free, the Greatjon knows as does Edmure, but I dont see them getting out of the Twins any time soon and Catelyn would probably die before telling anyone) does this make Jon’s rejection of Stannis’ offer moot?
A: Edmure and the Greatjon are prisoners, true… but you are forgetting the envoys that Robb sent to Howland Reed… Galbart Glover, Maege Mormont, Jason Mallister… they are all alive and free… As to what is and is not moot… the key point is, only a =king= can legitimize a bastard……
Now, GRRM has to resolve the Northern plot in TWoW considering the final book will be mostly about the Long Night. If the Northern politics plot involves Robb’s will, there is a good chance that Howland Reed is going to be making an appearance!
In 2000, when GRRM was writing his fourth book he said this:
November 16, 2000
SENTRY BOX BOOKS SIGNING (CALGARY, CANADA)
We will meet Howland Reed, but not in the next book... he(Howland) knows just too much about the central mystery of the book...
We will learn lots about the Harrenhall tourney in the next three books, so, any prequel work he is considering will strictly be the continuation of the Dunk and Egg stories...
At the Berkeley meeting, I asked if we'd be able to meet Howland Reed and while he said that there wouldn't be a POV most likely, we would get to know more about the man and his connection/knowledge to the Tower of Joy and Ned at Starfall. Well, I asked about his connection with Ned and at Starfall so he just said yes, we would, basically. - SSM, 11/11/2000
It had been stated that Howland Reed would come out in The Winds of Winter, which is the 5th book. Will he still come in the 5th book (A Dance with Dragon)?
GRRM: He will appear eventually. - SSM, 9/1/2001
Will there be any further explanation of the skirmish at the "Tower of Joy", by Howland Reed or whomever?
GRRM: Yes, in later volumes. - SSM, 12/28/1998
I think TWoW is when we will get the important revelations that will set the stage for the final book.
There’s a good chance that some keys facts about what actually happened with Lyanna will be revealed. The aftermath of her elopement - why things spiraled out of control so badly. What actually went on in the rebellion and Rhaegar’s motivations. After Ned in book one, book 6 is going to be where GRRM gives us the R+L=J goodies and why R+L=J actually matters.
And the POVs in the next book - Jon Connington, Barristan Selmy, Bran Stark through Weirwood.net, Jon Snow hanging around in Ghost and possibly having dreams/visions.
And then Howland Reed finally making his long awaited appearance. Chances are that we will get to know about the Tower of Joy, Why Lyanna eloped, Tourney at Harrenhal/Knight of laughing tree, Starfall and Ashara Daye, Ned’s journey back to the North.
I was already looking forward to the Northern plot the most in the next book, but with Howland Reed most probably making an appearance and all the important revelations, doubly so now.

Highest Rated Psych Episode From Each Season
according to IMDb
Season 1 - Scary Sherry: Bianca’s Toast
Rated an 8.8, this episode far surpassed the others of this season being followed by Cloudy... With a Chance of Murder which was given an 8.5. I agree with this pick as a top rated episode of the season. It gives us an undercover Juliet, a crying Gus, a screaming Gus, a scared Gus, an annoyed Gus, and Lassiter trying to handle the new “rookie”.
Season 2 - Lights, Camera... Homicidio
This episode was given a 9.1 being followed close behind with a 9 rating from the season pilot, American Duos. This episode is a goody. I love the opening song being in Spanish and of course, Chad.
Season 3 - An Evening with Mr. Yang
Given a 9.4 rating this has been the highest rated episode so far. It’s good, I’m just not really for ones that are a small series in themselves, like the whole yin/yang killing episodes in general. Also the ending of this episode makes it seem like a rom-com and is not really that funny. BUT we do meet Mary Lightly who IS the greatest character ever dreamt of. The follow up this season is Tuesday the 17th with a 9.1 rating, I do love this episode it’s very spooky.
Season 4 - Mr. Yin Presents
It got a 9.4, and I already explained my thoughts on this in the last one so I’m just going to go ahead and unveil the follow up which is at 9.1, Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark. This episode of Shawn getting shot and Lassie and Henry working together, Gus’s pajamas. What a fun ep.
Season 5 - Dual Spires
Twin Peaks anyone? This is James Roday’s favorite Psych episode. Before watching Twin Peaks I always thought this episode was just so strange but now I get it and love it. I’m so glad the freaking yin killer episode didn’t get the highest rating this season or I would’ve lost faith in humanity. With a rating of 9 stars, Not Even Close... Encounters comes in second. Freddie Prinze jr. as Dennis, amazing.
Season 6 - Last Night Gus
Ding, ding, ding. This wins the highest rated episode with a 9.6 (confetti). With the inclusion of Woody, this episode did everything right. No memory, a dead guy, Ed Glover? C’mon son. Henry Spencer, where are your pants? I have fun, okay at number two we have Heeeeere’s Lassie with 9 stars. This episode was very fun and very spooky.
Season 7 - Office Space
This was kind of a lower rating season as the highest rated episode was only given 9 stars. What does one do when they stumble upon a crime scene that highly incriminates them? Why, clean it all up of course and embroil your best friend in the cover up (and steal the socks off the body). There is a tie for the next top rated episodes at 8.9 we have Deez Nups and 100 Clues.
Season 8 - The Break-Up
The final episode of the series, yeah it’s good, but mostly sad. It had a 9.5 rating and is followed by Lock, Stock, Some Smoking Barrels and Burton Guster’s Goblet of Fire which was given an 8.6. I do think this episode crammed a bit too much in it.
Thank you so much for reading! As always, you can send me asks on anything Psych related! My favorite episodes, characters. themes.

The Hagley Library; come for our 235 acres of history along the banks of the Brandywine, stay for our wonderful stories of certain Swedish witches.
We don't need the Sadducismus Triumphatus:, Or, A Full And Plain Evidence, Concerning Witches And Apparitions. : In Two Parts. : The First Treating Of Their Possibility. : The Second Of Their Real Existence to find the occult this #WitchyWednesday, but we’re sure enjoying its company. This treatise on all things supernatural was first published in 1681 after the death of its author, the English writer, philosopher, and clergyman Joseph Glanvill (1636-1680). Our copy of the work is a fourth edition, published in 1726.
The book, whose subjects range from witches, the danger of those who expressed skepticism about witches, the physiological structures of the soul, the Drummer of Tedworth (an early poltergeist tale), and other supernatural and occult phenomena was also one of the first works to document the use of witch bottles as counter-charms against evil magic. In later years, the work was referenced by H.P. Lovecraft in his 1923 short story “The Festival” as well as by Shirley Jackson in her 1949 book The Lottery and Other Stories.
Less amusingly, it was also a major influence on Cotton Mather (1663-1728), author of Discourse on Witchcraft (1689), Wonders of the Invisible World (1693), and one of the architects of the Salem Witch Trials, which resulted in the death of 20 Salem residents between 1692 and 1693. Mather also played a prominent role in the case against Goodwife "Goody" Ann Glover, who, in 1688, became the last person to be hanged in Boston for the crime of witchcraft.
Our copy of this work has not been digitized, but morbid fans of meter among you may find consolation in another witchy work in our collections. Alice DuPont Ortiz (1876-1940)’s 1937 book of horror poetry, The Witch of Endor, can be found online in our Digital Archive by clicking here. Or you can go to the internet. There’s also copies of it elsewhere on the internet. Dark magic there, for sure. Happy haunting!
