If Jason’s learned anything living on the streets, it’s that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Like that time he found an entire queen-size mattress in a dumpster outside of the apartment building he and his mom were squatting in and dragged it home, only to discover that it was crawling with lice. Or the time when he agreed to watch some drug dealer’s car overnight for twenty bucks and ended up smack dab in the middle of some kind of gang war. Or the time when he came across a nearly full take-out container of still-warm shrimp alfredo sitting abandoned on a park bench, then spent the next 48 hours becoming extremely well-acquainted with every public bathroom in a half-mile radius.

Anyway, by the time Jason stumbles across a shiny black speedster abandoned in one of Park Row’s many sketchy alleyways, chrome rims gleaming in the moonlight, you’d think he’d have the sense to know too-good-to-be-true when he sees it.

Fuck it. He’s always been an optimist.

In a meta context, there's SO much overlap between the shows. A lot of the same people worked on it, especially the writers, and it 100% shows. Mr. Marty Isenberg you are not slick.

In terms of the actual content of the shows though, the similarities are overflowing.

First and foremost, the emphasis on cultural differences and exchanges with the human-bot relationships. TFA had a good bit of it and it was very very fun every time it happened (bots not really knowing what level of self defense is appropriate to teach a child, being very confused about what exactly humans eat, bee picking up video games, bulkhead picking up art, ALL that good shit), but you don't always get to focus on it with all the action and political intrigue going on. And while rescue bots has its share of intensity, there's a lot more space for the mundane interactions. Blades being tv obsessed, the bots celebrating Allspark day, boulder's love of just Everything on earth. They had a whole episode just about teaching the bots to fish.

There's also the fact that everyone on griffin rock is a little bit Unhinged in a lot of the same ways the humans kicking around Detroit are. Just. Vaguely Weird Vibes in very funny ways. And the same tendency to switch from revering the emergency services which they may or may not know the bots are part of to wildly distrusting them on a dime. Optimus would not leave an encounter with Mrs Nederlander unscathed bro. I don't know if any of the bots could.

Speaking of humans, the villains in rescue bots feel like what the tfa human villains could have been if not for being wildly overshadowed by the decepticons. Evan and Myles? I think you mean Henry Masterson's shitty cousins he only interacts with through the CoD lobby. Madelyne Pynch? That's just girlboss Porter C. Powell. Quint Quarry? Sir that is Master Disaster if he existed for more than like two minutes of a singular episode and bagged more than one bot. Dr. Morocco? Meltdown but better at, like, everything (especially lab safety).

Then there's the constant state of both teams grilling the hell out of each other All The Time. Chaotic. Absolute Creechurs. They love each other so much but they also all live in close contact and see each other all the time and thus they are So Mean To Each Other (though they're a bit meaner in tfa just bc older audience)

The Sumdacs and the Greenes being two duos of an absentminded but well meaning technological genius and his intelligent and Highly Cool pigtailed daughter who both have to deal with the dad's tech going completely out of control is pretty on the nose too. (Oh God now I'm just imagining an au where tfp starscream successfully gets rid of Megatron after the space bridge explosion and sends him hurtling towards earth and crashlanding right on griffin rock whee doc green finds his head. Can you imagine. The misery of tfp Megatron having to deal with a human. He's having several mental breakdowns, 100%)

Even Cody and Sari have a lot of similarity as characters. Cody is a lot more mild mannered compared to the absolute Gremlin that is Sari, but they both still struggle a lot with wanting to help but feeling too small to make an impact, even though they matter so much more than they could ever know. They're surrounded by heros, giants, and it's hard for them not to feel like they're fading into the background. And when both their families realize how they've been making those kids feel they put so much effort to make sure they're loved and feel like their efforts matter. It's the same arc in different forms. And it's so good both ways.

Overall they're both shows that feel like they're trying to say similar things to different audiences. That Earth is wonderful and worth protecting. That any effort can make massive differences, even if you don't feel like you can do enough. That a hero can come from somewhere humble, and the best ones usually do. That people deserve kindness and a genuine effort at understanding. That nobody is without value.

And honestly? That what I love most about both of them.

he's just immediately no hesitation nuh uh bitch I'll fuck you up XD that's so Eggman, he's not scared of eldritch horrors, monster of the week, malevolent entities- my man is fucking around with them all the time he's experienced

his own creation that's adorable in his own words being able to get a very small but still bigger reaction out of him than the entity that wiped out an entire races, civilizations, and worlds is gold

I bet after realizing that he's gonna be very happy to exploit that and have fun with her startling their enemies

I wonder if he knew yet that she's capable of looking much more intimidating than that like this because then he'd be even happier with that

as I shared in my other concept, I can see him being very happy with the way her looks can also be deceiving when she isn't appearing like a cute, innocent, and non threatening just like Eggman can too with his less than typical edgy evil looking appearance and can then shortly prove their assumptions very wrong with their dangerous deadly actions that I love

but I also like the idea of them intimidating their enemies together as both him and her are also capable of looking intimidating and threatening when they want to be! :D

The flow of the prose was very nice and there were a lot of really good moments of rhythm!! As someone who is dialogue-heavy in my writing i can really respect a more prose heavy piece like this it is super well done. Massive fan of that method of loop getting their body back also. really fucking good.

i don't wanna say anything specific in this ask because people should go read it for themselves but the bit with the [objects] in [the location] was so fucking inspired. perfect pairing down and microcosm of theme. well done

LOVECRAFTOBER: DAY THIRTEEN Bast: Protector of Cats; Chewer of Corpses

Affiliation: The Court of the Elder Gods

And another elder god! Bast is better known as an Egyptian Goddess, but she is one of the few that is also an elder god working under Ulthar to help contain and get in the way of the plans of the Outer Gods and the Great Old Ones.

She has an affinity for cats and is a huntress in her own right...but also very shy at times about mortals seeing her and easily flustered. In the same breath, she can get very excited about things and always eager to impress Ulthar and show her own power.

She got the title Chewer of Corpses because the local Ghouls of Earth started to worship her and she just can't get them to stop...just because they saw her tearing up some minion of the Great Old Ones that ONE time! So embarassing!

Had fun designing her c: Felt like going a cat monster centaur angle for her to give her a more eldritch look!

It's really odd to see how many people actually disagree with how the finals ended in Alien Stage, because I actually think it's perfect??

Til is my favorite character but I think his arc is strongest if he died here. The fact it's so unfinished and has so much build up with little to no true end - that's the tragedy of it. It's the tragedy that has followed til literally his entire life. Til was never given the tools to imagine a happy ending for himself, and frankly it seems like no one ever had any intention of letting him or any other human have one. For him to never make it past that, to never find his place, just drives home how unfair alien stage really is. How sacrifice doesn't guarantee your loved ones live or even that your struggles will even be remembered in any meaningful way. Alien stage has always been very upfront about the fact only one will win and by the rules probably survive, and I feel like the more it strays from that diminishes the brutality of the very concept they're criticizing. For them to pull any punches on the finale of all levels would feel narratively weak, personally.

But before this episode even aired, we all knew Til had absolutely no chance. From a purely musical standpoint, maybe. But he's literally so emotionally damaged and they put him in the ring with a guy that gets off to impersonating peoples dead loved ones. Even if he wasn't drugged and even if it wasn't implied to have happened directly after the last match he'd be doomed. Lukas literally is out here playing and getting his freak on about making people die miserably Til is literally the least qualified out of ALL of the contestants to deal with that absolute menace. He was always going to lose, even if they faced eachother in the first round.

From an emotional standpoint I will riot and cry and throw up if he's dead but from a purely writing perspective? It's solid as hell. I literally cannot imagine a more tragic and symbolic way for him to live Or die than right now.
