Vau’sena announces Invasion of Blackbird Criopt

     Today, two weeks after the government’s ultimatum towards the Holy Resurrection of Dhraul (more commonly referred to by their alias, the Blackbirds) was met by a direct attack against President Ataahua Parata and 25 days after the brutal terrorist attacks committed by the interim government which left over 2,100 dead across Vau’sena, the Federal Kingdom of Vau’sena has finally made its course of action clear: A surprise invasion of Blackbird-controlled Southern Criopt which has already begun.      The Vau’senaan invasion of Blackbird Southern Criopt commenced just after 2:50 AM local time with simultaneous landings on the small island of Pylerick in the Led Eteijer Sea and on the main island of Criopt near the city of Soucanard. In preparation for today’s attack, Vau’senaan landing parties have been outfitted with high-mobility climbing gear and fall protection, night-vision equipment, and magic protection consisting of gasoline spray for extinguishing Dhrallic fire and Valtanach copper armor inserts, which reduces damage taken by magical attacks by converting between 30-35% of magic which strikes it into ice. Today’s landing parties additionally have two Dhrallic guides each assigned to them to assist with navigating Dhraul’s notoriously difficult terrain, which is dotted with gravity-defying vertically-aligned magical cities and towns. The first landing parties have started their landings by offering food, medicine, and clean water on Vau’senaan-flagged landing drones going in front of them as a sign of good will, which has reportedly been met with varying levels of success by commanders on the ground.

     Today’s landing has been prefaced by months of trouble between Vau’sena and the Fletaute-based breakaway Blackbird government in southern Criopt. A marketplace bombing in Valtinn, Turifeth in February leaving 11 dead along with the now-infamous 26 March attacks have left the Vau’senaan populace reeling and desperate for answers from the government on a possible response, which has drawn much criticism for its tight-lipped approach following initial announcements at the time of the attack. The death toll of the 26 March attacks has climbed to 2,140 as the cause of death begins to shift from direct injuries received at the sites of the attacks to those caused by longer-term issues such as respiratory disease from toxic smoke inhalation. 

     The nation was also shocked by an ambitious magical attack delivered by the Blackbird leader Zuriel Nash against President Ataahua Parata on the 6th, in which a magical letter addressed to be from the Dhrallic Hoor government leader Logh McCarish exploded into magical flame, blinding President Parata and bearing reminiscence to Nash’s paralyzing attak against Cosonaan President Samuel Titus in 2026. President Parata stood beside Queen Lucerne I as the Queen delivered the announcement in a press conference at the Royal Palace this morning. President Parata and Cosonaan Representative Arcisio Batzi revealed during the press conference that the Stadta’asembli’enn Vau’senaan voted in secret in 81% favor of the invasion on the 10th of this month. 

     Queen Lucerne I currently rests in a difficult position as she works to combat both Blackbird aggression to the north and to contain a provocative Ilfiatist Korlan under Ikaroa Storinka to the south with the help of the Southern Alliance. Vau’sena has yesterday afternoon offered an exchange of 20 nonviolent Korlua prisoners who are serving time on charges from corporate espionage to money laundering in exchange for the safe return of Vau’senaan citizens trapped in Korlan. The two governments are expected to meet later today to discuss staff rotations in the Vau’senaan embassy and its associated consulates in Korlan, which have been delayed for three weeks as a result of Korlanic restrictions on the freedom of movement and diplomatic immunity of Vau’senaan diplomatic staff.

     The nation sits on the edge of its seat. The Criopt Campaign marks a turning point for the Vau’senaan government as it finally involves itself in the so-called Mosaic Wars of a Great Hegi in collapse after nearly three years sitting on the sidelines. Whether it’s in the Blackbird center of power in Fletaute or in the soggy marshes of rural Criopt, Vau’sena is in a race to hunt down Zuriel Nash- before she disappears for good.

Thousands Feared Dead in Coordinated Nationwide Terrorist Attacks

     Today the nation held its breath as a string of devastating terrorist attacks were unleashed across Vau’sena this morning. As the smoke clears from a day of terror and anguish, it becomes hauntingly apparent that suffered the largest coordinated terrorist attack in history. All flights in Vau’senaan airspace were immedately grounded and the military and police deployed to airports, train stations, and public spaces as the government scrambled to construct a response.

      Kingdom of Cosona (Coronaie au Cosona), Spencia, Tiffany      At 10h50, the first and most devastating of today’s attacks was carried out as CosonAir Flight 43 en route from Cosona, Tiffany to Catican, Catican City was flown into its target at the headquarters of the Tsentri’enn’bank Vau’senaan (Central Bank of Vau’sena) shortly after takeoff with 193 on board, including 7 flight crew and the 5 hijackers reported in calls to emergency services. It is estimated that over one thousand of the bank’s 11,000 employees were killed as the building collapsed just 45 minutes later at 11:35. Tiffany’s hospital system has quickly become overwhelmed with thousands of injuries, making matters worse.

     Union of Castaña (Unión de Castaña), Feliway, Feliway      At 11h08, the second of today’s attacks was carried out prematurely on the runway of Castaña International Airport (AIC), killing 60 including 4 of the aircraft’s 5 flight crew along with 2 attackers and injuring 90 more. Orizonte Flight 230, scheduled en route from Castaña, Feliway to Katastrofia, Monikisca and running 30 minutes late, had been lined up and waiting for permission to begin the takeoff roll when AIC Tower received news of the attack in Tiffany and decided to order OZ-230 back to the gate along with all other departing aircraft.

      In response from the announcement from the captain that the flight had been unexpectedly cancelled, the two hijackers in first class rushed the cockpit in attempt to continue their attack. The hijackers failed to wrestle control of the plane from the flight crew however, and one detonated the bomb strapped to his chest to avoid being captured. While the force of the explosion tore through the first 10 rows of the aircraft, it was not enough to kill the third hijacker in the back of the plane, who was immediately pinned down by the last surviving flight attendant and two passengers before he had a chance to kill himself. The surviving hijacker has been identified as Stuart MacPin, who proudly confessed the attacks to be organized by the Dhrallic Blackbird leader Zuriel Nash after hearing of the devastation of today’s other attacks.

      State of Valtinn ( Stáite na Valtinn), Seilcheann, Bradàn      At 11h15, CosonAir Flight 99 en route from Cosona, Sielva to Valtinn,  Bradàn was flown into the Valtanach State Capitol building with 150 on board, including 6 flight crew and 5 attackers. The force of the explosion tore apart the Senate Chamber, which was in session at the time. Of the 46 Senators present at the time of the attack, only 9 are confirmed to have survived- 4 of which remain in ICU, and it is unknown whether they will pull through. The current death toll is confirmed to stand at over 200, with over a hundred people including Governor  Simidh Mac a'Mhiadhaich still missing and nearly 900 additional injuries.

     Kingdom of Cosona (Coronaie au Cosona), Asdas, Asdas      At 11h41, Cholevaera Flight 860 en route from Volios, Nikaiens to Cosona, Asdas flew into the headquarters of the Royal Armed Forces of Vau’sena, also known as the Sexagon, with 98 on board, including 4 flight crew and 3 attackers. At least 120 servicepeople and 30 civilian contractors primarily concentrated in the Royal Army and Royal Air Force divisions of the building are confirmed to be dead, with over two dozen still missing. Current estimates place the number dead at just over 300, with almost 700 more additional injuries. High Commander Miyeke Aa’skant of the Royal Vau’senaan Army was confirmed dead this afternoon- the highest-ranked fatality of the Armed Forces.

     In spite of the chaos unfolding just 2 kilometers away and a warning to evacuate given by city officials, the Stadta’asembli’enn Vau’senaan led by Cosonaan Representative Arcisio Batzi and Kuwharan Representative Manaaki Hohaia defiantly continued to discuss the proposed ban on political donations coming from the bloc of nations known as the “Allied Effective” led by Korlanic President Ikaroa Storinka. The resolution was voted upon at 13h20, passing with an overwhelming 96% of the vote. Of the 4% who did not vote for the bill, half of those were abstentions from the few senators who were either not present or evacuated the chamber.

    Led Eteijer Sea      At 12h26, Cholevaera Flight 1200 en route from Cosona, Asdas to Volios, Stavrokis went down in the Led Eteijer Sea with 169 people on board, including 6 flight crew and 4 attackers. Calls made to authorities from the aircraft using the on-board wifi indicated that the four attackers waited until the aircraft was far enough from shore that they believed military aircraft would be unable to respond in time. Because news of the previous attacks had made their way to the passengers over the internet however, they knew already that they would certainly die if they did not fight back against the attackers. A group of passengers wrestled down the two attackers who stayed in the main cabin and began trying to break down the door of the flight deck before the aircraft pitched down into a roll, losing radar contact seconds later. While the exact sequence of events is unclear, it is believed at this point that one of the hijackers in the flight deck activated their suicide vest in response to passengers entering the cockpit and grabbing the control stick. A fighter squadron sent from Volios to intercept the aircraft never saw it when they arrived CA-1200′s last reported location at 12h29, and search boats have been unsuccessful in recovering anything more than a few seat cushions.

     In response to the attacks, Queen Lucerne I has been flown back in from her meeting with Ruling Figure and Guardian Riven of Rheasilvia in the Principality of Etola, Moreno, arriving in Tiffany late this evening. President Ataahua Parata was also flown into Tiffany from her native Kuwhara, Rangat after delivering a public speech in favor of Vau’senaan unity against the influence of Korlanic Ilfiatism, which was enthusiastically met by those in attendance. Queen Lucerne I and President Parata gave a short joint speech calling for unity and strength across the country before joining Governor Adelvin Spijkers of Cosona and Mayor Elise Senha of Tiffany in encouraging first responders and helping to distribute supplies and move rubble at the site of the Tsentri’enn’bank Vau’senaan. All other surviving governors and the Ponder Administrative Council also gave similar speeches of their own throughout the day, and Vice Governor Bhaltair Puidreach of Valtinn is expected to do the same at his midnight inauguration into the office of Governor.

     The Royal Vau’senaan Armed Forces are expected to meet with Queen Lucerne I and President Parata tomorrow morning at an undisclosed location to discuss the official response to today’s attacks. Following the confession of Blackbird hijacker Stuart MacPin, all eyes are on the Blackbird’s leader Zuriel Nash, who has been one of the most wanted people in the Cosona for decades for her 2026 attack on then-President Samuel Titus of Cosona which left him permantly paralyzed.

     The Vau’senaan resolve has been tested like never before. The nation cries not only for grief today, but for justice. The decisions made tomorrow will shape this country for decades to come.

Tommy must have been staring at his phone for far too long, because Donato pounces on him (metaphorically) in the dining area.

"I go on leave for a week and you flew a chopper into a hurricane?" Donato exclaims, punching him in the bicep.

"Ow," Tommy says out of habit. "The hurricane was mostly over by then, actually."

Donato huffs. "The things you get up to without my calming influence, Kinard."

Putting down his phone, Tommy levels a stare at his friend. "Last I remember, you're the one who scaled a cliff sans harness to get to a scared kid."

"And got chewed up for it after," Donato says brightly, holding up a finger. Her voice drops. "Seriously though. What's the brass gonna do about you guys?"

"Hopefully? Nothing. There's enough positive publicity that's got Simpson off our asses, so I'm hoping it'll blow over."

"Melton says you might be grounded for some time."

"I wouldn't be surprised." Tommy sighs and leans back in his chair. "As long as I'm not fired, I'm ok with the consequences." His lips twitch into a smile. "You'd have liked it though. I got to land the bird on an upside down cruise ship, in a storm."

"Oh fuck you, Kinard, you lucky bastard." Donato grins, her blonde bob bouncing as she jumps to her feet. "You're buying me lunch, by the way."

"Why?"

"Because you love me," she says, laughing as she jogs off to bother someone else. "Mentaiko bowl, you know the one!"

Tommy shakes his head fondly. He didn't know what about him had attracted Lucy Donato's friendship, but her effervescent energy always brightens up his day.

Which still doesn't help with Tommy's dilemma, which is one leggy firefighter named Evan Buckley. His sunny demeanor and inexplicably funny chatter in the middle of a helicopter heist and dangerous rescue had helped Tommy stay focused on the task. Afterwards, on the return journey, Tommy, Howie, Hen, Athena and Bobby caught up with one another, and both Eddie and Evan had been there, joining in the conversation whenever they can.

Tommy hopes no one actually saw him staring at Evan most of the time. It helped that they had sat opposite each other, and Evan's eyes had been so, so blue, the color of a clear summer sky, and his smile radiant. Of course it was easy to get numbers from everyone then - Tommy needed to update the ones for Athena and Bobby, and he added Eddie Diaz and Evan Buckley into his contacts.

Eddie texted him the very next day asking if Tommy's up for a quick visit to the Diaz household, because his son Christopher wanted to meet the pilot who helped save Captain Nash, and Tommy decided that, heck it, he could do with some new friends, and went.

And for the next hour or so, he listened to Christopher wax rhapsodic about "my friend Buck", how brave and funny and clever Buck is, how selfless, how he rescued Chris during the tsunami, how good a friend he was, how he loved taking Chris to the zoo and built him a structure so that Chris could skateboard, how the lightning strike gave him insane math powers, how good a cook he is...

And the photos Chris shared about Evan all show Evan grinning happily, as if there's nothing else he'd rather be doing than be with Christopher and Eddie.

For a moment Tommy had thought that Eddie and Evan were an item, until Marisol showed up at the house and kissed Eddie in the kitchen. The relief Tommy felt is disproportionate to how much he knew Evan. Which is ridiculous - Evan might have a partner already, or might not be into men, and Evan hasn't ever texted Tommy yet. Eddie's already sending dozens of messages about the upcoming reunification fight.

The phone in Tommy's hands suddenly rings and he almost drops it in shock. Cursing, he quickly swipes up to answer. "Hello, this is Kinard."

"Oh, uh, hi Tommy. It's Evan. Buckley. E-Evan Buckley."

Tommy swallows his surprise even as a huge smile blossoms on his face. "Hey. I wasn't, um, expecting you to call."

Evan chuckles. Is that nervousness in his voice? "Listen. Um, I was, uh, I was wondering if you gave, like, tours? Of the station?"

Tommy's heart skips a beat. Does this mean Evan wants to transfer to Harbor? Then he realizes it's been too long since the question so he hastily says, "Yeah, yes. I could show you around, if you want."

It's a good thing he's not hooked up to anything measuring his pulse. Tommy thinks his heart may jump out of his chest.

On the other end of the line, Evan says, "Great! Uh, you-you have my number so. Text me possible dates and times to go over?"

"Sure," Tommy replies, his mouth dry. He thinks about fawn-colored hair, blue eyes, red lips. He swallows again. "See you soon, Evan."

"See you soon, Tommy."

MeenPing are topping this damn list because... have you any idea how LONG I have been waiting for a real sports centered BL starring at least one boy who actually played the flipping sport? It’s off to a great start. Thank you, Rebound, for being exactly what I wanted. By which I mean Meen has his shirt off literally in the first two minutes of the show. Also it’s a bit of a childhood sweethearts reunion romance. There’s nothing wrong with this beginning. Fantastic. For a change, I even enjoy the intro music. Golf is directing MeenPing this time, so maybe something magical will happen. Frank is aging so pretty!!! How nice for all of us. Even the bb play is good. It’s a proper sports BL. I’m so damn happy right now. 

Wandee Goodday (Sat YT) ep 9 of 12 - I’m so tired of Ter, but everything else was lovely. Also they are SUCH boyfriends. 

Sunset X Vibes (Sat iQIYI) ep 3 of 12 - They are so cute in these roles. I don’t know why, I just like their vibe better here than in the previous show. (And I really enjoyed Big Dragon at the start.) This show is a lot more classic romance and kind of pat because of that. I do hope the ingénue character gets some kind of additional development and talent. But even if it stays mundane, these two have the chemistry to carry it. So I suspect I’ll keep enjoying it regardless. I am mildly intrigued by the spice of the PNR element, so I hope they run with that a bit more. I suspect they will have to, to extend the plot for 12 eps.

My Stand-In (Fri iQIYI) ep 10 of 12 - Ah Ming... famous last words. This one just makes me sigh a lot and whimper sadly. I don’t know where they’re going with this plot or how they’re gonna resolve it. Joe finally being the asshole Ming deserves is a lot of fun though (double entendre intended). I’m scared but it did make me cry... a lot. (That's fine, I'm a sap.)  

Imma say this because no one else has. Wardrobe is unilaterally terrible in this show. I mean Thailand is notoriously bad in general but this show, nash.

We Are Cute (Weds iQIYI) ep 13 of 16 - They are so fucking adorable. And so flirty! Also a crying kiss? My favorite! Chain’s little moment of "Cupid shoot thyself" was epic. ("Physician heal thyself" but for the BL world?) Honestly, I could watch a whole show about these two...

The Trainee (Sun YouTube) ep 1 of 12 - How does Gun still look like he’s just out of high school? Madness. Does the set for the print shop that he’s working in at the beginning remind anybody else of Mork’s dad’s place in ‘Cause He’s My Boy? I swear GMMTV has about 3 sets they rotate through.

To be brutally honest, I was not looking forward to the show at all. No idea why. OffGun aren’t my most favorite OG pair, but I respect them for their longevity, optics, acting shops, and enduring brand. Maybe I just needed more of a gap from Cooking Crush?

Whatever, I was absolutely riveted by this first episode. I’m enjoying The Trainee a lot. Like, a lot a lot.

My Love Mix-Up Th (Fri YT) ep 4 of 12 - This version did the "clear up of the inciting miscommunication" in such a sweet achey way. Frankly that "ache of first love" really plays to G4's strengths as a pair. This was a good ep and I’m now starting to enjoy this one for its own sake and get some distance from the JBL version. It's just there is A LOT of good stuff coming out of Thailand right now.

Love Sea (Sun iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - I was inspired to write a Shakespearean style sonnet in this week's trash watch. Mame seems to believe that no character can have depth without suffering. And I found this episode both boring and rushed at the same time. Trash watch here. (This week's trash watch also VERY delayed.)

Knock Knock Boys (Thurs Gaga) ep 6 of 12 - It’s eminently missable... so I missed it this week in order to get this weekly update out. Next week will be a two in one. 

Only Boo! (Sun YT) ep 12fin - Okay, that’s it, I guess?

Summary:

An idol romance about a sunshine boy who dances good and wants to be a star and a reserved food stand vendor. Other side of the tracks, grumpy/sunshine pair who fall in love but, of course, to be an idol baby boy can't date. It wasn’t particularly bad, it wasn’t particularly good either. 7/10

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

I Hear the Sunspot AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru (Japan Weds Gaga) Ep 1 of 10 - A new series adaptation of beloved yaoi I Hear the Sunspot (first adaptation was feature film Silhouette of Your Voice 2017).

I expected the soundscapes in this one to be fantastic, but I didn’t expect the filming to be something special too. But it really is. I’m not gonna lie, I'm nervous about this show because I love the manga and was disappointed by the film, but we were off to a really good start. First names already? So cute. I love them.

Takara's Treasure AKA Takara No Vidro (Japan Mon Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Shy awkward Taishin goes to a Tokyo university in order to reunite with Takara, a stranger who consoled him over the loss of a parrot the year prior. He finally gets a chance to express his gratitude but is given the cold shoulder. (My thoughts this weekend's round up)

I can't believe Japan is holding it down for the non Thai BL. I mean to say.... JAPAN!!! What alt reality are we living in? It being Japan, I'm scared of the ending.

It's airing but...

Blue Boys is still going on and I'm still enjoying it (despite the cheating) but I don't know when it drops or where it's going, so I will report in at the end. When they tell me it's ended.

The Last Time (Thai Fri YT?) - Convoluted story of loss and possible reincarnation or something. Can't find it.

OMG Vampire (Thai Sun ???) 10 eps - I've put the search on hold for and y'all can let me know if it's worth tracking down once it ends?

The Time of Fever AKA Unintentional Love Story 2 (Korea movie) trailer released to Korean theaters 5/25. HoTae & DongHee, side couple from Unintentional Love Story are back! Same actors, same character names. I love them. Devastated this hasn't had international distribution. I demand you tell me the moment you find it!

7/10 Century of Love (Thai Gaga) 10 eps - trailer here, DaouOffroad are back, this time as fated mates in a quasi historical paranormal moment. San has spent many lifetimes waiting for his lost beloved, to reincarnate from her death a century ago. But if he fails to find her within this century's time window, he will succumb to a tragic death. And this time she's a boy. Very much Director Who Buys Me Dinner meets First Love Again, hopefully better than both. I love this pair and think they can handle the premise, it's whether the storytelling is up to the challenge. I'm curious to see but I have reservations.

7/26 4 Minutes (Thai Netflix or iQIYI?) - Great is a university student from Faculty of Business and the son of a wealthy business owner. Out of the blue, he gains the supernatural power to see four minutes into the future.

7/29 Battle of the Writers (Thai ????) - trailer here, TutorYim return and while I adore them, I really hope this is better than Middleman's Love. Won't be hard. However: that premise! Ugh. Something something authors fighting - save me. Why don't writers understand that nothing is more boring than writers?

Linguistic corner!

I love this way of putting the translation. Usually, in Thai, the phrase used means "he's my happiness" (sounds like: kwamsook). To use sabai is different. Sabai more ubiquitous (sabai is one of the most commonly used phrases in Thailand) but also so different from the usual phrase we hear in ThBL at this moment. Thus, this execution is special, particularly from a doctor. I'm not quite sure how to put it but sabai can also be translated as feeling well, as in, not ill. So there is a way of looking at Wandee saying Yak is both his peace of mind and good for his health and well being.
