Alfea Overview v2

i drew out a layout for Alfea i will use for specifications of my overview. did i make alfea a smidge taller? Yes but oh well, anyway lets begin.

The Alfea College for Fairies is a girls' boarding school in Magix for Fairies and the oldest (established 9000 years before the start of the story) and most prestigious educational institution for fairies. 

The education in Alfea lasts 3 years, one for each Fairy Form in the journey of an aspiring full-fledged fairy. Base form, Charmix, Enchantix.

The Alfea students are mostly in training ages 16-18 (unless they have been held back a grade like Stella, so in her case, 17). Fairies here learn how to control their power, fight evil, learn new spells as well as learn how to be their realms' queens and guardian fairies. In this way, Alfea is a little like a military boarding school for the elites.

In the Past

The Alfea Champions were an ancient trio of legendary fairies who were believed to be the most powerful fairies in all of Alfea History. Their feats have been known to be passed down through generations, immortalised in statues that stand in the Alfea Museum, and had been recorded in Legendarium. Ress of the Flame, Chevonne of the Water and Farcelia of the Wind. They were real fairies, but it has been so long that their legends outlived their actual story of their lives.

When Mavilla was headmistress of Alfea, owning and exhibiting the strengths of one's Fairy Animal was considered a vital part of a fairy education. Everything taught was a reflection of the contents of the Tome of Nature. Eventually, Mavilla changed this. 

Alfea used to have a crest which was a curved golden "A" on a purple and blue flower with a golden outline at the top of the school gates, just above Alfea's gate. The "A" of the crest is also seen on what used to be the school's uniform, consisting of a burgundy long-sleeved and knee-length dress and mary janes. The neck part of the dress has white lace and a dark burgundy loop.

At another point in time, Eldora was the keeper of the Alfea Greenhouse and taught floral magic.

School years

First Year

Freshmen fairies learn how to master their own source of power, as well as their base fairy form, and learn basic spells they can use in their daily life and in battle if necessary. Metamorphosymbiosis, Potionology and Survival Training are part of the first year curriculum. Fairies also learn how to explore diverse environments in the Simulation Room as part of their survival training. 

Second Year

Second Year fairies have the goal of earning Charmix. Their classes include, magic invocation, magic self-defence, applied convergence and cognitive analysis class, where fairies learn technical incantations, and spells requiring accurate pronunciation.

Third Year

Third Year Classes include, History of Magic, and those who achieve Enchantix will participate in Battle training to hone their skills. The fairies also have a final thesis, also earning Enchantix is more like an extra credit thing.

Graduation

After earning Enchantix, the basic fairy education is completed and they will graduate with Honours and receive the titles of Guardian Fairies of their respective homeworlds on the Day of the Gift. Without Enchantix, the girls still graduate, but they don't become guardian fairies. In this case, they return to their home world and can decide if they want to work towards being a guardian fairy by being an apprentice to one until they earn their Enchantix, or they can do something else. Alumni can also decide to extend their studies and do their masters here at Alfea in any Subject already offered, being mentored by any of the current staff

Winx After Graduation

They taught for a short period of time, before choosing to take their masters here in various subjects in addition to being substitute teachers from time to time.

Architecture and Layout

Outside

The Alfea Natural Park, which is a refuge for Fairy Animals, is found in the forest. It is unknown if parts of the forest close to the school belong to the school or not, but they are also used for classes and tests.

There is a bus stop where students, guests, and staff members can take buses from and to Magix City and to other places in Magix.

Protective barriers meant to keep non-magical creatures, non-fairies, and bad weather out are seen many times in the series.

The School Gates are the only access to the school compound. They consist of a large pink archway with two wing-like doors that move to open or close the gates.

Its campus is a large castle with pink walls and blue roofs built around a courtyard.

Ground / First Floor

Most of the Classrooms are found on the ground floor around the central courtyard. The side buildings have corridors through which the classrooms can be accessed and it has stairways from which the upper parts of the school can be accessed.

Namely: On the East Wing, Applied Convergence Classroom, Technical Incantations Classroom, Magic Invocation Classroom, Magic Defence Classroom, and on the West Wing, Potionology Classroom, Metamorphosymbiosis Classroom, and the Survival Training Classroom. Each classroom also acts as storage for whatever items the subject requires.

The School Kitchen, where Chef Sfoglia works, Students may also be assigned to do the cooking as chores or as punishment. Located in the West Wing

In the North Wing, The Entrance Hall is a large room found opposite the School Gates, and it is accessed by a set of grand stairs.

The Cafeteria / School Hall is a large room found on the ground floor. It has a large dome of glass as its outer wall and there are long tables where the students have their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It has a special tier for staff members. Parties and balls are often held there and during such occasions, the tables are removed to make a place for the festivities. It is found below the Headmistress' Office and behind the Entrance Hall, in the North Wing.

The West Wing also contains The School Infirmary where students are treated in case of health problems and injuries. It is composed of an office and a resting room with many beds. It is managed by Nurse Ofelia and her assistant.

The West Tower is where the Magic Archive of Alfea is found. Precious and rare books and scrolls about many things can be found there and the school's Codex used to be kept there. A Pixie, named Concorda, is the keeper of the Secret Archives.

The first floor of the east tower contains the Applied convergence Classroom which also acts as the School Amphitheater for formal gatherings required by the Headmistress or otherwise. the students sometimes attend the school assembly and it is also where general meetings are often held, especially in crisis times. There is a table with chairs around it where staff members sit. Exams may also be held there.

The Central Courtyard is a large open space at the centre of the school. It contains:

Benches where students can sit and spend their free time. The Well, with underground tunnels that connects Alfea to the other magical schools, and contains various rooms and obstacles to go through in order to obtain the Star of Teamwork. It functions as a gathering area for celebrations such as the beginning of the year and graduation ceremonies are done. It also serves as a landing space for Red Fountain ships.

Around the sides are the Gardens of Alfea. A place where students can relax and study and even practice their abilities with the accompaniment of nature.

And around the back is an open space mainly used for classes with a practical component.

Second Floor

The student Dormitories (enchanted to be bigger on the inside). Located in both the East and West Wings.

The North wing’s first floor’s ceiling is very high, taking up 2 floors, and therefore technically there is nothing here.

The Simulation Room is where virtual simulations take place. It can also be used to teleport people to other locations. Professor Palladium is the one who is in charge of the Simulation Chamber.

There is technically nothing here in the West Wing because the Archive Room Ceiling is the tallest in the entire school, taking up 4 floors. (Tho it can still be accessed from here as well but the platform is small so people usually dont.)

Third Floor

The student Dormitories (enchanted to be bigger on the inside). Located in both the East and West Wings.

The History of Magic Classroom in the East Wing Tower

And in the North Wing, the staff and Faragonda’s offices. Outside of which there is a small seating area.

There is technically nothing here in the West Wing because the Archive Room Ceiling is the tallest in the entire school, taking up 4 floors. (Tho it can still be accessed from here as well but the platform is small so people usually dont.)

Fourth Floor

The student Dormitories (enchanted to be bigger on the inside). Located in both the East and West Wings.

The Dance Studio/Gym in the East Wing Tower.

In the North wing, Faragonda and the Staff Quarters. Only accessible via the offices.

There is technically nothing here in the West Wing because the Archive Room Ceiling is the tallest in the entire school, taking up 4 floors. (Tho it can still be accessed from here as well but the platform is small so people usually dont.)

Fifth Floor

Only contains the Viewing Decks atop the two Towers of Alfea. Only accessible by Flight or Teleportation.

Basement

The basement of Alfea is sprawling. It contains what will become Musa’s Music Cafe, the Alfea Museum, the Hall of Memories (formerly: Fairy Animals), the magical Entrance to the Alfea Greenhouse, the Library (containing the Research Lectern with Miss Barbetea as its Librarian) with its Restricted Section, and finally the Hall of Enchantments (It contains the hall of infamy, where the portraits of all the enemies of the Magic Dimension can be found, the entire history of the magical universe and contains the Heart of Alfea), only accessible through the Headmistress’s Office.

The rest of the images here include a Key, a Compass and a small sketch i did to plan out how many floors Alfea actually has.

Dorm Assignments

The students use all three levels of the student dorms. And where they go rotate every three years. So if you joined the school and are assigned to the second floor dorms, you stay there until u graduate then the freshmen after you will take over it.

Once again all dorms are enchanted to be bigger than they seem.

For the Staff, (All dorms are enchanted to be bigger than they seem from the outside)

Palladium, Wizzgizz, Avalon share a dorm, the North Wing, East (left) Dorm

When the winx become teachers, they will insist on sharing a dorm, the North Wing, West (right) dorm.

The non teaching staff usually have a built in dorm at wherever they are working, so Miss Barbetea has a room in the library, and Nurse Ofelia and her assistant share a room in the infirmary and so on. Their rooms are also enchanted so they are bigger on the inside.

my take on the bats in fnaf

(ik fnaf is in utah, but we're putting it in new jersey for our Purposes here.)

bruce: he would take the position of nightguard in under an alias in order to investigate the missing children cases. when the animatronics start moving in the night, he deduces how to survive, but ultimately his goal is to give the children the justice they deserve. he investigates during the night, evading attacks by the animatronics, and eventually discovers william afton is the murderer. but where is he...

dick: since bludhaven is gotham's sister city, lets say that freddy fazbear's has a sister location(!!!) in bludhaven. he's wary of circus baby, but ultimately plays along with her instructions, until she tries to direct him to the scooping room. u think he took this job without memorizing the layout of the place first? he ends up doing the extra night and seeing the fnaf 4 cam footage. hmm... also yeah dick would probably enjoy the the thrill of a def haunted facility, but i cant imagine he'd like how confined the space is, or that he'd prioritize the fun of a haunting over respecting the dead kids

babs: the job is easy for her. unlike bruce, though, she sees golden freddy and freaks tf out, tho she wont admit that

jason: one of the kids that went missing were from crime alley, so this case is within his jurisdiction. tbh he'd want to go after anyone who killed kids anyway. he would have an intense time. freaking out manifesting as "YOU GOT MURDERED AS A KID AND CAME BACK WRONG, I GET IT, BUT PLEASE DONT KILL ME OVER IT." he would not see the hypocrisy in that statement, but he would relate to the kids. when dick says he had to crawl through vents, jason was glad that he doesnt live in bludhaven

tim: he sees that the fnaf 3 location has an Authentic Animatronic and he wants to investigate. i think if it were any other game he'd manage fine, so thats exactly why im forcing him to have hallucinations. make things more difficult. he does determine that william is in the spring bonnie suit, tho! jason tries to burn the place down Immediately, but william ultimately escapes

cass, steph, and damian: after tim does fnaf 3, its pizzeria simulator time!! they decide to tagteam it. cass handles the scrap animatronics, steph decides what to buy, and damian handles lawsuits. they take turns with the end of night gameplay. when henry burns the place down, he did plan an escape route for them. the trio do try to save henry, but he insists on dying with his daughter.

by the end of it all, the bats all have solid evidence that it was william was the killer, and the full story of what happened to the kids to give to their families.

also they did in fact have a theory bulletin board put up in the batcave. it was a wreck by the end.

After the Servant, it was natural that the Pirate Lord's envoy, Belle, would go next. And using the Servant's body as a general base, I was able to make Belle and those after with ease. For Belle, her colors are usually distorted by all the refs I've seen. In the Fog of the Damned, promotional material, in broad daylight, her colors were tricky.

Belle in the crossover would come to the rescue of our Delta Warriors who landed on the abandoned Golden Sands Outpost. After being rescued, she would layout the world lore as best she could and tasks the trio to search for 1000 gold to pay the fee for the Order of Souls in making a transmuted item that would guide them to their destination(s). If you've played any Monkey Island game, then you'll know Kris, Susie and Noelle's method of obtaining such currency won't be all innocent.

About the unfairness of Volume Covers.

Ngl, I was so optimistic. All other final arc covers have been absolute bangers! Look at the Deku-Shigaraki one, or the BkDk one, they're sooo good! Plus, if we had, DkSk, DabiShouto, then why didn't we get a TogaChako? Like seriously? Was Toga that important that they decided to give her a solo cover when it could easily have been a TogaChako battle cover just to complete the Trilogy? Heck, this could have been a battle cover and no one would have a single complaint....

Why is that, when it comes to Volume covers, Ochako gets the most shit treatment? Like she could have easily been a part of a lot of covers, and she could easily have gotten at least one solo Volume Cover but nope! 400+ chapters and not a single Ochako dedicated cover making her the only MC in MHA to not have a single volume cover.

Heck, even Toga, her antagonist got one but not Ochako.

Heck, even Star and Stripes got one but not our main female lead.

Heck, even Lady Nagant got one but not Ochako.

What's worse is that it's not even bad contextually but it's just soo random that it feels like a total disrespect to the amazing TogaChako arc that this volume covered.

When, I saw the TogaChako colour page, I knew we weren't getting a TogaChako battle cover, plus it also had the Todoroki family drama, and Todoroki is Hori's favourite, so he had to be included somehow, despite already getting his cover in vol 36. But seriously this is so unfair.

If we count it chapter by chapter, TogaChako arc covers 5 CHAPTERS, i.e. 391 to ch 395 making it the CENTRAL arc for volume 39!! And not only that, her Quirk Awakening happened in this Volume!! She literally saved everyone's ass in the GUNGA battlefield!! (Yeah, she did that, it's not even an argument)

When Bakugo got an awakening, he got a solo cover. When Todoroki got an origins chapter, he got a solo cover. Then why not Ochako? The main trio literally appears in almost every other cover, then why not the same respect be extended to the main female lead?

Why is the unjust only to Ochako. It's not even the first time, this is happening. It happened in vol 22 too, when she saved Deku from BlackWhip in season 5 and Everyone was on cover, excluding her.

Why? Because after the layout, Hori decided it looks better without her. What a shame.

Her own solo cover, is way overdue and what's worse is that since the series is on the verge of end, we will NEVER get a solo cover for her. All hope is lost.

And that's sad because Ochako is such a good character! And when people like SnS, Lady Nagant and even Mirio get a solo cover, then why not her?

I wasn't this angry with vol 33, because the art was phenomenal...Ochako was looking absolutely stunning!! The tears in her eyes, and the microphone in hands were the absolute highlight of that cover but this?

They have some weird flag in the bg, they're sitting on that golden throne that is supposed to represent Mech AM or something....plus unlike Izuku-Chako-Iida, these three people have NEVER had a single interaction in the entire manga!! Vol 33 was about a young hero who has been overburdened with responsibility and his two best friends fighting the world to save him but vol 39?

It's meh.

The Iceberg of Online Manga - A Reading List and Print Wishlist

We get a lot of manga in English, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. We get a hell of a lot of fan translated manga, but even that doesn't cover the whole thing. Separated by language and culture, the "untapped" potential of manga is foreign to a lot of readers, myself included really. But it's because of that deficiency that I decided to start taking a look at interesting fan translated titles to find series to recommend to publishers (and potentially read), so this is a sneak peek into my ever-growing list.

It's also an open request for people to share their favorites from the online manga sphere! As a single person it's impossible to find all the hidden gems, so being able to share titles between one another can really help widen horizons.

Sui and Neri of the Twilight Planet / Tasogare-Boshi No Sui To Neri

In a way, it reminds me of Girls Last Tour, a sunsetting planet that explores the oddity of a du in their life. Not quite as bittersweet or contemplative through what I've seen so far, but still very pretty and detailed. Lots and lots of hand drawn background art, and some really good layouts and paneling.

Poison Poison Forest Forest /Doku Doku Mori Mori

Mushroom on Mushroom violence, with a healthy side of grim visuals. It's got all the punch you could expect, and has a pretty novel approach to what you could consider a revenge story. Still early on so not a mountain of stuff to go off of, but at the very least what there is is good.

Captain Momo's Secret Base / Momo Kanchou No Himitsu Kichi

Tsuruta Kenji, the mastermind behind the art of Emanon (and other series), need I really say more? Regardless, with Tsuruta's art behind a lighthearted and curious series of a woman travelling through space alone with a cat, it's an undeniably enjoyable ride. Though do be warned, there is quite a bit of nudity featured as Momo prefers going commando to wearing clothes.

Every Every Night / Yona Yona Yona

An incredibly strikingly designed robin hood-esque story, Yona and her crew go on nightly missions to try and steal back art that was originally stolen by a corrupt police force. Creative, expressive, fun, and impressively detailed and unique, it's got quite a bit of potential!

The Feared Witch of Tasihou / Taishou Kitan Majo

Mixing the Western practices of Witchcraft with a Taishou-era Japan setting? A cultural combination that I'm truthfully surprised we haven't really seen yet. Add onto that the incredibly unique and sketch-like art style (and the wonderful color pages) and it's just a super easy pickup.

Welcome to Hotel Metsäpeura / Hotel Metsäpeura e Youkoso

A little hard to explain succinctly, but this is the story of a trio, two men and a teenager who they find standing outside their hotel in the Finnish wilderness in the middle of Winter. Characters with... interesting pasts, it's a story about providing not just a house, but a home to this young boy on his own.

The Ends of A Dream / Yume no Hashibashi

This is one that I'm really quite desperate to get in print. It's an emotional story of a pair as they retrace their forbidden romance through the years that have evaded them as they reach the end of their lives. A painfully beautiful concept that I really hope to see licensed someday.

Will You Clean This For Me? / Kirei Ni Shitemoraemasuka

Alright, something a little more light and fun! A story of a laundry (though it's really sorta general cleaning) shop as they go about their daily life, even offering a few tips and tricks to better cleaning things. Simple idea that has some pretty clear care put into it, and is just the right thing to relax with.

Amber Days and Golden Nights / Kohaku no Yume de Yoimashou

Let's keep the good vibes rolling! Another specific interest series, this time about craft beer. Kenzaki Nana's a burnt out employee at a Kyoto advertising firm, but happens to stumble across the Shirokuma bar. With just one night she ends up pulled into the world of craft beer, and our story begins! Very fun and light, and a really cool area to see explored by manga.

The Dragon, The Hero, and The Courier / Ryuu to Yuusha to Haitatsunin

Nothing like some good old comedy at the expense of someone else. Yoshida, a half elf, is a mail carrier for the Imperial City of Idazig that will deliver mail to anyone, anywhere. With the breadth of fantasy and middle-ages history expressed early on, there's a lot of creative potential for humor alongside the really wonderfully scratchy and sharp art.

Deep Sea Aquarium Magmell / Magmell Shinkai Suizokukan

My friend Phantom would kill me if this wasn't on the list. Anyways, it's a series about a deep sea aquarium employee in Tokyo. Very cool, very informal, and incredibly beautiful. I love how much they work with blacks and darkness in the art.

A Coffee Shop in the Unwaking Town / Samenai Machi no Kissaten

I love stories that are incredibly odd and quiet, and this is no exception. Suzume one day finds herself unable to wake up, stuck in the unwaking town Lutetia. It's in this town that she works at the coffee shop known as 'Quatre'. From the moment I laid eyes on it I knew I'd enjoy it, a unique concept paired with standout art, it has such a comfortable feeling to its experience (as well as offering a few recipes).

Living In an Antiquarian Bookstore of The Karakida Family / Karakida-ke no Kosho Gurashi

A simple story about three girls inheriting their grandfather's shop in the heart of the largest collection of used bookstores, Kanda-Jinbouchou. A very calm and borderline mundane story that is supplemented with some truly beautiful art.

oh my god. thank you for this ask (i was at work when i first saw it or i would have answered this sooner but ANYWAY)

this is Fenn, my warlock and canonically my young wolf. she's a 5' gremlin with a fascination with golden age history/tech, a knack for crafting particularly deadly weapons, and has been quietly beefing with Mara Sov since they first met. she is obviously pretty handy with all the elemental types, but has a particular preference and knack for Arc. also she's dogshit at parkour

her lore weapons are Ace of Spades, Hawkmoon, Riskrunner, and Xenophage. no its not an ideal layout. and Xeno is the only one of these i use in-game as a staple but she tends to favor guns with sentimental value over how useful they actually are, save for Xeno

also this is her favorite passtime

This is Lorna Zoras, she's my hunter and a member of Fenn's fireteam. She's been around for a while, wayyy before Red War; which is when Lorna lost her original fireteam; which caused her to sort of close off and become kind of grumpy. she cares a lot though; and is the team mom friend. She is also very ride or die and one of the first people to throw down if anyone comes for her fireteam.

I don't have a canon loadout for her yet, but as a hunter I personally think she'd have a similar though not the same gun as ace, as sort of an omage to the fallen vanguard. They were friends, though not as close as Fenn was.

She's void/solar most of the time, depending on mood mostly. She used to be a typical hunter(tm) when it came to shenanigans, but the loss of her fireteam kind of put an end to that. Though her time with miss young wolf has lent to some absolute shenanigans.

Also her ghost's name is Magnus, as a little joak to myself.

This is my titan, Saph Vinn. I actually don't have a ton for Saph yet. I tend to have to play a character to start the flow of building the oc, but I do have some things. She's the other member of the fireteam and "youngest" of the three, having been risen sometime during the shadowkeep era; and while she's efficient and good at what she does, she's sort of struggling to find her identity as a guardian; something made a little more difficult by the fact that she's sort of in Fenn's shadow.

if these three were a dnd party, she'd be the normal one (TM), IE the one with a happy backstory and loving family. She's the sunshine of the trio, and while she's seen her fair share, she's very upbeat and hard to faze.

are there any characters you dont like writing that often? im always curious if people get annoyed when like half their asks are the same character

it really just depends on my mood like sometimes i don’t feel like writing ab golden trio era characters bc i’m not as interested in them as i am the marauders or tom or other fandoms but i get requests for them often but i don’t get annoyed i just pass it off until i’m in the mood for writing about them.

i know i get a lot of james reqs but i love marauders era and always wanna write for them so it doesn’t bother me at all.

but i don’t want ppl to think they can’t request the character they want on my character list just because i say i’m not in the mood to write for them because when i do wanna write for them it gives me content to actually produce instead of coming up with a wip that might or might not be something i finish,

like my recent theo fic i had the wip for a while but wasn’t sure if i was gonna actually finish it and i didn’t wanna talk ab it and have ppl waiting since i don’t have a lot of theo content to read rn and once i had already had a lot written i committed to finish it unlike a wip i had but never started to write or had like a layout with a sentence written.

but with marauders since i have quite a bit of content and i’ll come up with a wip and if i don’t finish it it’s okay maybe i’ll come back to that later since i’m not stressed about not putting out something because there’s already a few fics and blurbs i have out and my blog was a marauders blog before anything else (except for fear street) and it’s the thing that interests me the most and that i can come up with things easily.

unlike other characters where i go through a one day theo nott or enzo phase and work on a full fic that i don’t finish then don’t have any inspo for the rest and don’t open the doc until weeks later.

and just when i write i’d rather it be when i’m in the phase of the character so i have the inspo and the motivation and a lot of the times i get the motivation and finish most of the reqs i have or all for that character and don’t get more for that character until days later.
