Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend 2024, day one! I arrived Wednesday night. Somehow I have a farmer's tan. How did I acquire that? I've already drunk my first Mai Tai of the trip at the reliably wonderful Golden Tiki (with my friend Kevin). The cocktails, kitsch decor and exotica soundtrack at Golden Tiki are sublime.

In Honour of England vs Spain
I wrote this in about an hour and not proofread it but enjoy a very little brief update of these two!
The roar of the Wembley crowd is deafening, a mix of English and Spanish chants echoing through the stadium. You stand tall between the goalposts, your England jersey clinging to your skin, the number one printed boldly on your back. Across the pitch, in the fiery red of Spain, your Barcelona teammates exchange knowing looks. Among them, Aitana Bonmatí—your girlfriend, your heartbeat, and tonight, your fiercest opponent.
You’ve trained with her, laughed with her, loved her. You know her movements, the way she feints left before cutting right, the fire in her eyes when she spots an opening. And she knows you. Knows how you like to rush out, when you hesitate, where your hands falter. There are no secrets between you—except for the one that lingers in the air now.
When the whistle blows, the game is war.
Spain dominates possession, their tiki-taka passing slicing through England’s midfield. Aitana is everywhere, orchestrating, dictating, controlling. Then it happens. A perfectly weighted through ball from Alexia Putellas finds Aitana’s feet. She takes a touch, lifts her head—your eyes meet for the briefest of seconds.
Then she shoots.
You dive, stretching every muscle, fingers grazing the ball just enough to send it wide. The crowd erupts. You land hard, pushing yourself up in time to see Aitana standing there, hands on her hips, a smirk tugging at her lips.
"Nice save," she mouths.
The game goes on, a battle of wits and will. Every time she gets the ball near the box, your heart pounds. Every time you deny her, the fire in her eyes burns brighter. It’s exhilarating, maddening, intoxicating.
Then, in stoppage time, Spain wins a free kick just outside the box. Aitana steps up. Your pulse quickens. She’s scored these in training a hundred times. You shift your weight, watching, waiting. She takes her run-up, strikes the ball, and you manage to move your feet quick enough and get your hand in the opposite corner to tip the ball over showing your world class.
The final whistle blows.
Your body is aching, your heartbeat still hammering in your chest, but none of that matters. The scoreboard tells the story—England 1-0 Spain. A hard-fought victory, one that came down to every fingertip save, every rushed clearance, every desperate dive. You played one of the best games of your life.
And yet, your eyes immediately search for her. You didn’t see her as you were smacking hands sharing smiles and small words with your Barcelona teammates before being dragged into the England huddle. Your eyes met Keiras who smiled as it came to end hands coming in the centre Keiras words silenced the team. “Someones waiting for you”
Aitana stands near the centre circle, hands on her hips, staring at the ground. The golden streaks in her ponytail catch the stadium lights, but her usual glow is dimmed by frustration. You know this look—you’ve seen it after tough losses with Barcelona, after games where nothing went right.
You smile as you look back only Keira in this team knew about you and Aitana all though you’d been dating 3 months now she wasn’t officially your girlfriend and you hadn’t told her you loved her but she had turned you into a bit of a softy, you weren’t very forthcoming in telling people. You were a private person, the ribbing it seemed Aitana was getting from teammates it told you that she was telling people. “You and Aita?” Lucy Bronze put the pieces together, “No, I don’t believe you”
“You don’t need to believe me” You smiled at Lucy turning and walking away
You pull off your gloves, tucking them into your waistband as you approach her, you smile as she finally looks up when you reach her, eyes locking onto yours. There's a flicker of something—pride, annoyance, something in between. Her arms instinctively come around your neck as yours went around her waist you lifted her and walked a few more steps with her before setting her back down.
"You were impossible today," she mutters in Spanish, arms crossed.
A smirk tugs at your lips. "Had to be. You’re too good otherwise."
Aitana rolls her eyes but doesn’t fight the small smile creeping onto her face. "That last free kick… I thought I had you."
You exhale sharply, replaying it in your mind. The way she struck the ball, how it curled toward the top corner, how you barely managed to tip it onto the crossbar. A goal on another day, against another keeper.
"You almost did," you admit, nudging her gently with your shoulder. "I know you too well, though."
Her brows lift in playful defiance. "Or maybe I let you save it so you wouldn't cry if I scored."
You laugh, shaking your head. "Keep telling yourself that, cariño."
For a moment, it's just the two of you, lost in the space between competition and love. But then Alexia Putellas jogs past, clapping Aitana on the back. "Vamos, we've got media," she says, before casting you a knowing glance.
Aitana sighs, tilting her head at you. "I'll see you later?"
You nod. "Of course. I owe you a kiss, remember?" You’d kept in contact over text and Aitanas idea was the winner had to give the loser a kiss and an apology.
She smirks. "Yes, you do. And I expect a proper apology for ruining my night."
You grin, leaning in slightly. "I’ll make it up to you."
She lingers a second longer before jogging off with her teammates, leaving you standing there, still feeling the rush of the game and the unshakable pull of her presence.
You had won tonight. But the real challenge? That awaited you off the pitch.
The media duties are finally over. You’ve done your interviews, answered questions about the match, your performance, the clean sheet. But your mind has been elsewhere the entire time.
Now, in the quiet of the stadium tunnel, away from the cameras and the roaring crowd, you wait. The post-match adrenaline still hums in your veins, but it isn’t the win you’re thinking about.
It’s her
You lean against the cool concrete wall, arms crossed, waiting. You should be celebrating with your teammates, soaking in the victory, but instead, you’re here.
Waiting for Aitana.
And then—finally—she appears.
She walks toward you, still in her Spain tracksuit, her ponytail slightly disheveled, her expression caught somewhere between frustration and amusement. You can see it in the way she moves—the sharp edge of competition still clinging to her shoulders, but there’s something else beneath it.
“You took your time,” you tease, leaning against the wall.
She huffs, clearly still annoyed. “Blame the media. They kept asking how it feels to lose to you.”
Your lips twitch. “And what did you say?”
Her eyes narrow, her chin lifting slightly. Eyes locked into yours. “That you got lucky.”
You let out a short laugh. “Oh, come on, you know I—”
She cuts you off by grabbing your jersey, yanking you forward, and pressing her lips to yours. Pulling you down as she presses her lips to yours. The kiss is firm, quick, but charged with all the unspoken words between you, filled with leftover frustration. When she pulls back, there’s a dangerous glint in her eyes.
“That’s for being annoying,” she mutters.
You blink, caught somewhere between amusement and arousal. “Didn’t know I annoyed you that much.”
Aitana smirks, tilting her head. “You have no idea.”
And then she kisses you again—properly this time. Slower. Deeper. Her fingers stay curled in the fabric of your jersey, her body pressing just a little closer, her lips moving against yours with the kind of ease that makes your heart pound louder than the stadium had.
By the time she pulls away, you’re both slightly breathless.
“And that,” she whispers, her forehead resting against yours, “is because I missed you.”
You exhale softly, your hands still resting lightly on her waist pulling her just a little bit closer, “I missed you too.”
There’s a moment of quiet between you, a rare pause where the world outside doesn’t exist—just the two of you, the warmth of her body against yours, the faint scent of her shampoo, the way her fingers rest lightly against your chest. Caught in that space between rivalry and something softer.
Then—
“You could have let me score, you know.”
You groan, throwing your head back. “Aitana.”
“What?” she says innocently, but there’s a dangerous glint in her eyes. “I’m just saying. You like me, right?”
You narrow your eyes at her. “Of course.”
“Then let me score next time.”
You snort, shaking your head. “That is not how this works.”
She lifts a brow. “Hmm. But if I had scored, maybe you’d be the one kissing me right now.”
You fold your arms. “Oh, so now I earn kisses?”
Aitana shrugs. “Maybe.”
You scoff. “Okay, let’s test that theory.”
Before she can react, you lean down and kiss her again—slow and deliberate, making sure she feels every ounce of satisfaction in the way you take your time. You feel her exhale softly against you, her fingers twitching at your jersey, betraying her resolve.
When you pull back, you raise an eyebrow. “Still think I needed to let you score?”
Aitana stares at you for a second, as if trying to compose herself. Then she smirks.  “Yes,” she says, stepping back
You blink. “What?”  You smirk. “And ruin my clean sheet? Never.”
Aitana groans, lightly smacking your chest. “You’re impossible.”
A loud voice echoes down the tunnel.
“Oi! Lovebirds, we need our keeper back!”
You both snap apart—well, mostly. Aitana’s hands linger at your chest for a second longer before she lets go, shaking her head with an amused sigh. One of your England teammates walks past with a knowing smirk.
Aitana groans. “Your teammates are just as annoying as you I see”
You grin. “They love you, to.”
She glares. “That’s the problem.”
You chuckle, then reach for her hand, giving it a quick squeeze before letting go. “You need to go” She just laughs, disappearing around the corner.
You groan, dragging a hand down your face.
Yeah, you won tonight.
But with her?
You never really win.
And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
You were in Belgium your last game of this camp before going back to Barcelona, this was the longest you and Aitana had gone without seeing each other every day at work and spending time together afterwards and it seemed Aitana was struggling with that.
It’s late. Too late, probably. But your phone buzzes anyway, Aitana’s name lighting up the screen.
You don’t even hesitate before answering.
The screen flickers, and there she is—hair messy from sleep, hoodie slightly too big on her frame, curled up in bed with her face half-buried in her pillow.
You smirk. “Didn’t peg you as the clingy type, Bonmatí.”
She glares, though it’s weak, softened by sleep. “Shut up.”
You chuckle, shifting on your own bed. “Miss me already?”
She huffs. “No.”
Your smirk grows. “Oh, really?”
Aitana exhales, adjusting her phone so you can see more of her bed, her arm slipping under her pillow. “Maybe a little,” she mutters.
You tilt your head. “What was that?”
She groans. “You heard me.”
You laugh, lying back against your pillows. “Mmm, can’t say I did. Maybe say it again?”
She glares. “I hate you.”
“You love me.”
She doesn’t answer, just tugs her hoodie up slightly to hide the small, reluctant smile playing at her lips. That wasn’t something either of you had said to each other yet and you in your sleepy awoken state hadn’t realised what you had said.
You shake your head, amused. “You know, you could’ve just texted me if you wanted to talk.”
Aitana scoffs. “I did text you.”
You glance at your phone. Sure enough, a single text from her sits unread.
Aitana: awake?
You smirk. “Oh, yeah. Real romantic. I’m swooning.”
She rolls her eyes. “Not my fault you take forever to reply.”
“Sorry, princesa, I was busy—” you pause for effect, “—winning.”
She groans so loudly you’re sure half her apartment hears it. “You are the worst,” she mutters.
You grin. “And yet, here you are. FaceTiming me at 3 AM.”
Aitana glares. “I regret this already.”
But then, as the teasing dies down, a quiet settles between you. Aitana shifts slightly, resting her chin on her pillow, eyes softer now.
“How’s camp?” she asks, voice lower.
You sigh, rubbing a hand over your face. “Long. Intense. Same old.”
She hums. “Tired?”
You nod. “Yeah.”
She watches you for a moment, then exhales. “I wish I was there.”
Your chest tightens slightly. “Me too.”
Her lips press together. “It’s stupid. We do this all the time. Games, camps, flights… I should be used to it.”
You tilt your head. “Not since I met you.”
She exhales through her nose, fingers idly tracing patterns against her pillow.
You study her, the way her eyelids are growing heavy, the way her breath is starting to slow slightly.
“You should sleep,” you murmur.
She shakes her head. “Not yet.”
You smile softly. “Aitana—”
She cuts you off. “Just… stay on the call.”
Your chest warms. “Okay.”
A few moments pass in comfortable silence, the sound of her breathing evening out. She’s close to sleep now, her blinks getting slower, her grip on her phone looser.
Right before she drifts off completely, you hear her mumble something.
“Hmm?” you hum.
Aitana exhales sleepily. “Don’t let me dream about you saving that goal.”
You burst out laughing.
Her eyes snap open just enough to glare at you. “Not funny.”
You grin. “A little funny.”
She groans. “I hate you.”
You shake your head. “No, you don’t.”
She mutters something in Catalan that you think translates to something rude, but her eyes are fluttering shut again.
You lower your voice. “Sweet dreams, princesa.”
She doesn’t answer, just breathes softly.
You stay on the call a little longer, just watching her sleep, before finally whispering a quiet, “Goodnight,” and ending the call.
And yeah, the distance sucks.
But moments like this?
They make it bearable.

Have you been noticing that tall guy over by the tiki bar?! Kat asked Anika before turning to look over her shoulder. He’s been eye fucking you the entire time we’ve been down by the beach, you should go talk to him. She urged. Anika took a glance In his direction. Guuurl, he is definitely fine af but I didn’t come out here for all that. I just want to relax and be with my girls. She said very sure that a man was not what she needed to be worried about. Before she could protest any more Kat whistled and waved the guy over. Anika turned red with embarrassment. Hey my friend here thinks you’re sexy and she’d like to see how big your dick is! Kat yelled as he approached. Omg! Kat! Wtf is wrong with you! Anika half laughed but was half ashamed too. As he got closer she could see he had the cutest dimpled smile and long flowing hair. His chest was covered in tribal tattoos and his skin was the prettiest golden tan. His dark eyes locked on Anika and that was all it took. Her pussy clenched. I’m sorry you wanna see what? He said half stuttering. Don’t listen to her, she’s a lunatic. Anika said still a little ashamed. It’s all good shawty, my name’s Josh but errybody calls me Jey. I’m here chillin with ma brothers. I saw when you pulled and couldn’t help but notice how sexy and stunningly gorgeous you are. He said while eyeing Anika down and licking his lips. Anika’s heart started to race. She hadn’t had a man this fine and this smooth approach her in so long. Her pussy clenched again. Before she could respond he spoke again. Let me take you around and show you a good time tonight. I bet I show you Pensacola like you’ve never seen it before. He was so damn sexy, she’d let him take her any where to be honest. Alright, I like how confident you are. Show me a good time are else! She said jokingly. Oooou someone has a hot date tonight! Kat chimed in. Anika had almost forgot she was standing there. Kat turned and ran off screaming to the other girls about what just took place. Jey grabbed Anika by the hand and lead her on a walk down the beach as they got to know each other. They made plans to meet back up at sunset and Jey promised to take her to the best spots in Pensacola.
~~~~~Several Hours Later~~~~~
It’s late you should get me back to my hotel. I’m headed home on the morning. Anika said reluctantly looking at the time. She was so and enamored with Jey and the great time he showed her she didn’t realize it was close to midnight now.
Damn ma I really don’t wanna see you go. You mad cool, yo vibe is … man only one word can describe yo vibe! Jey said. Oh yeah? And what’s that? Anika asked biting her bottom lip. YEET! He said giggling a little. They had been parked at the pier over looking the beach front and star gazing from the moon roof of his Tahoe for about an hour now. It just felt so magical. You are so crazy! She playfully shoved him. Nah fr tho I do have 1 last thing I wanna show you and then I promise to take you back to the hotel, aight? He said locking eyes with Anika, she could feel the vibe get a little intense. Her pussy throbbed. Yeah that’s cool, what you wanna show me? She asked. Jey leaned in and kissed Anika, sucking her bottom lip and pulling tight on the sides of her neck with his hand around her throat. It was deepest, most passionate kiss ever. Her pussy throbbed and gushed as she returned the energy. When he pulled back, his pants were unzipped and his dick was out. It was huge. Length and girth were definitely on his side. Anika was shocked. It stood fully erect and glistening with precum in the moonlight. I heard you wanted to see how big it was. Jey said as he grabbed the base of it. Anika giggled a little catching the reference from when Kat’s crazy ass yelled to him. Can I let you know what I think of it? Anika asked while reaching over to feel his girth. Before Jey knew what was happening Anika had took him into her mouth. The feeling of her warm mouth around his member sent him into a tail spin. Jey laid his head back while using both hands to hold Anika’s hair back for her. Oh shii, mmmhm you suckin the fuck out that dick ma. Anika turned up the tricks, taking him deep into her throat and gagging herself on it, then pulling back up to spit on the tip and then slurping it back up before hitting him with the pepper grinder while slurping the top half. Damn you trynna make a nigga nut, oh fuuuuc, baby you doin yo thing on that dick. Jey said eyes partially rolled back into his head. He begin to feel himself edging and quickly snapped back. Ho ho hold up! He begin to stutter while trying to pull Anika’s head up. Cause that was feeling too good and I can’t let you finish me off like that. He said, while looking Anika in her eyes. He had to admit he was still a little shocked he didn’t think she was a freak like that. He grabbed her chin and pulled her close for a kiss. He sucked on her bottom lip. Climb in the back. He instructed her while nodding in the direction. Anika did as she was told. Jey took his shirt off and climbed back to meet her. He grabbed her hips pulled gently until she was laying back. He pushed her dress up and found that she was wearing any underwear. Oh you was just out here camando just letting that pretty monkey hang. Jey said, still admiring how pretty her pussy is. It’s hot out here and I didn’t want her to sweat. Anika playfully defended herself. Jey wasted no time lifting both of her legs over his shoulders and diving into the sweet mounds of her vagina. Anika gasped as his tongue found her clit and begin to gently rock it. She felt herself begin to gush with excitement and Jey pulled back in surprise at how wet she was. Being to suck at her clit while letting his fingers find her g spot. You so wet for me bae, you ready to cum for me? He said through clit nipples. Anika was ready to explode! Just that minute Jey stopped and started to kiss his way up her body. He pulled her dress over her head and took her breast into both of his hands. His massive hands were so firm yet so gentle as he took her right nipple into his mouth. He begin to suck and pull at the nipple and then the left. At this moment Anika was a water fall waiting for him to dive in. She pulled at him. I need you in me. I need to feel you baby. She said through shallow breathes. Jey pulled his pants off while Anika helped him. Seeing his fully erect penis in front of her was way different than going down on him in the front seat. He aligned himself with her and he asked if she was ready. He pushed himself into her slowly.
She couldn’t help but to gasp at how he filled her out. All he could think about was how good she felt wrapped about him. Jey started to find his rhythm as he felt himself hit the bottom. Damn you wet for me huh bae. Anika moaned into his ear which mad him even harder. Jey took her nippled into his mouth as he started to speed up. Anika moaned and thrashed beneath him. In that moment he felt her wetness drip onto his thighs. You fucking me so good! Keep fucking me! She moaned. Jey was trying hard not bust just yet. He pulled out and sat on the back seat. Come ride this dick. He told Anika in such a demanding way. She was happy to oblige. She climbed onto his lap and inserted him into her wet, warm, paradise. Jey’s eyes rolled back and Anika took control. She rolled her hips in a circular motion while grinding up and down on him. Jey grabbed both of her beautiful breast and held them close together. You have some of the most beautiful titties I’ve ever seen! Prefect fucking titties! He said as she moaned while riding him. He begin to lick on them like a wild man. Anika begin to waterfall again. Jey could feel her wetness drip onto his stomach. You bout to cum for me?! You ready to cum for me baby? He could tell she was close. He could feel her tighten up around him with every motion. Go head bae. Dats yo dick. Cum on yo dick. He said while reaching down to rub her clit with his thumb. This is what pushed Anika over the edge. Fuck Jey! I’m bout to cum on that dick! Fuck baby! Fuck! As she begin to orgasm she tensed up and Jey could feel her muscles contracting around him. That sent him into his own mind blowing orgasm. Anika could feel his hot load spill inside of her. This was the best sex she had in a very long time. Jey held onto her tightly as she still sat in his lap. He planted soft kisses on her neck and she breathed in the smell of their hormones mixed together. You know you could stay here forever if you wanted to. You don’t have to leave in the morning. Jey said trying to convince Anika to never leave Pensacola. Oorrr you can come with me. She said caressing his face. Houston is a great place, just think about it. She said before laying her head on his shoulder. Jey looked up at the stars, seriously contemplating her offer.
"No, they weren't zombies. They were people, or they used to be."
Nathan Drake pulled out his journal and flipped to a page labeled Scare O' Meter. He turned it to me and pointed to a drawing right between a "demon sasquatch" and Sully's mustache: a crudely sketched rendition of a terrifying creature hunched over and baring sharp teeth, aptly labeled "slippery naked guy."
He explained that the legendary El Dorado wasn't a city of gold at all, it was a golden sarcophagus. Whoever was buried inside had some kind of viral infection that changed people, mutated them into terrible, rage-filled monsters. This mummy was worshipped for its great "power" and sealed in gold inside a place of reverence. Spanish conquistadors found El Dorado in the heart of the Amazon in the 16th century and stole it away, bringing it halfway across the Pacific Ocean to an uncharted island as far away from civilization as possible. They paid greatly for their theft. The sarcophagus was opened and the Spaniards were infected, mutating into creatures no longer human. Over the past 400 years, with each new generation born, the descendants of those Spaniards devolved further away from humanity.
A shudder ran through me as Nate finished his tale. El Dorado is at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean now, hopefully lost forever. But the descendants... they're still out there, somewhere.
Naturally, the Descendant is a riff on the infamous and dangerously delicious Zombie cocktail. The Zombie was invented by Donn Beach in 1934 and was an immediate sensation, jumpstarting the tiki craze of the 1930s. Its original recipe was a closely guarded secret until relatively recently which forced imitators to improvise, often to disastrous results. The Descendant is based primarily on the midcentury Zombie recipe written by Donn for Louis Spievak's 1950 book Barbecue Chef. Three different South American spirits are used in the Descendant to showcase El Dorado's Amazonian roots: Demerara rum from Guyana, pisco from Peru, and cachaça from Brazil.
DESCENDANT
Ingredients: 1 oz. aged Demerara rum (El Dorado 12) 1 oz. Peruvian pisco (Barsol) 1 oz. cachaça (Novo Fogo) 1 oz. pineapple juice 1 oz. lemon juice 1 oz. lime juice 0.5 oz. honey syrup 0.25 oz. grenadine 1 dash Angostura bitters Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with pebble ice or crushed ice. Shake and dump directly into a Zombie or chimney glass. Garnish with fresh mint, slapped to express the oils.
As always, the types of spirits you use are important for the flavor profile of the cocktail. For the aged Demerara rum, I use El Dorado aged 12 years but Pusser's British Navy Rum, Hamilton 86, or other aged El Dorado rums will serve just as well.
A Peruvian pisco is preferred over a Chilean one. Each country has specific requirements for pisco production and distillation. Chilean piscos are often distilled multiple times and then watered down to proof while Peruvian piscos are bottled directly from the still. This means Peruvian piscos often have more depth and flavor than their Chilean counterparts. However, if you find the flavor of Peruvian pisco too potent, a Chilean pisco may suit your taste better. If you'd like other uses for pisco, I recommend a pisco sour.
For cachaça, my number one recommendation is the fantastic brand Novo Fogo. Their Silver cachaça is what I use and is the easiest to get your hands on, but I wouldn't hesitate to try the Chameleon or Barrel-Aged expressions if you can find them. Not only does Novo Fogo make delicious spirits, but they operate the Un-endangered Forest Project and are dedicated to rehabilitating the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, which has been decimated by deforestation.
As mentioned previously, store bought grenadine will be much more syrupy and sweet than making your own, so homemade is recommended. It's a fast and easy process and all you need is pomegranate juice and sugar (although pomegranate molasses and orange blossom water help provide more depth and texture). If you do use store bought grenadine, adjust the amount of honey syrup you use to balance out the sweetness.
The Descendant uses honey syrup and grenadine in place of the Demerara syrup and passionfruit syrup (or fassionola) used in the midcentury Zombie recipe. I chose these ingredients for the Descendant because they taste great, they can be found in other recipes in the Uncharted Cookbook, and they're more readily available and easily made. However, if you have Demerara syrup or fassionola on hand, feel free to swap those in instead and see which you prefer.
The recipes for honey syrup and grenadine can be found here.
Just as a horn announced the start of the historic Battle of the Eagle and Lion, so does a horn call for its end. Fighting across the field draws to its close, with those remaining helping each other limp off to rejoin the rest of their classmates and colleagues.
The hope of victory still burns in all the remaining competitors on the field, but as the hours wear on, a decision must at last be made.
A few red and yellow pendants still flutter in the wind…
But they dull in comparison to the vibrant azure banners that fly proudly against the stormy sky.
“The Battle of the Eagle and Lion has officially concluded!
         And the winner is…
                                      The Blue Lions!”
This concludes the Battle of the Eagle and Lion! You may view the winning bracket here. A thank you to everyone who participated for making this successful; we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Inscryption cocktails
Tumblr media
Each Scrybe would have a menu reflecting their three minions (increasing in size - a shot, a squat drink, then a tall drink) and then the main cocktail based off of the menu's titular Scrybe.
Each scrybe also has a dish relating to them and how they play their cards.
Thank you @dariusblake for your suggestions on different flavour profiles and placemat details.
Tumblr media
Leshy's menu:
"The prospector"
A caramel whisky shot rimmed with golden nugget cereal crumbs. Modelled after the gold nuggets the prospector can transform cards into.
"The Angler"
A salted liquorish cocktail using anise flavouried liquior and fish-shaped gummy salted liquorish hanging over the rim of a bucket shaped recepticle. Modelled after the Angler's bait bucket card.
"The Trapper/Trader"
A rich, blood-red velvet cocktail made with red grenadine and a chocolate liquior. Served in a stein with a fake bit of pelt padding embellishing the handle. More modelled after his trading role than how he plays cards.
"The Scrybe of Beasts"
A botanical gin-based cocktail comprised of rhubarb gin, elderflower tonic and red grenadine seeping in from the top like a drop of blood, garnished with a sprig of elderflower. Served in a tall tiki mask glass (ideally etched to look like his masks, but a normal tiki glass would work) Playing into his tree-like appearance, emphasis on blood sacrifice (thematically and mechanically), and because he's an old man (hence use of elderflower specifically).
"Eight Fucking Bears"
Technically more of a food challenge than a regular dish of eight very spicy pork ribs with a thick, blood-like sauce.
Tumblr media
Grimora's menu:
"Royal Dominguez"
A limoncello and triple sec shot rimmed with crushed sherbert. Based on his death from scurvy at sea.
"Sawyer Patel"
A stout Sheep Dog peanut butter whisky and ginger ale drink served in a tumbler lined with a dash of peanut butter drizzle.
"Kaycee Hobbes"
A refreshing blueberry vodka and fireball slushy served in a tall glass and garnished with blueberries and cinammon caramel drizzle.
"The Scrybe of The Dead"
A black forest espresso martini made with Kaluha, cherry vodka, chocolate liquior and a shot of espresso. Served in a china teacup with a pitted black cherry skewered on the teacup's rim.
"The Lord of Bones"
Fried chicken drumsticks and wings served in a coffin-shaped basket.
Tumblr media
Magnificus' menu:
"Goobert"
Lime jelly(jello) shot. The shot glass would have little googly eyes stuck to it and an edible paper wizard hat instead of an umbrella.
"The Pike Mage"
A sweet and spicy chipotle-orange syrup, bourbon and vanilla liquior cocktail served in a martini glass and garnished with a skewered glacie cherry donning an edible paper wizard hat.
"The Lonely Wizard"
Black Sangria (made with dark wine - blackberries, black grapes and black plums) imbued with green edible glitter. Served in a wine glass and garnished with a lime slice donning an edible paper wizard hat.
"The Scrybe of Magicks"
A colourful tie-dye milkshake of creme de menthe, mint ice cream and strawberry cream liquieur embellished with edible glitter. Served in a tall flute and garnished with a swirl of whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and a spherical marshmallow made to look like Magnificus' missing arcane eye in place of a cherry.
"Mox"
A dessert made of blue raspberry, orange and apple sorbet scoops. Sprinkled with crushed sherbert and gemstone-shaped hard candies.
Tumblr media
Po3's menu:
"The Inspector"
A simple blue raspberry sour shot with a blue raspberry popping candy rim.
"The Melter"
A vibrantly fire-coloured chocolate orange spritz. Mixing chocolate liquieur with aperol and prosecco. Garnished with curled orange rind and dark chocolate shavings.
"The Dredger"
A boba blue gin fizz. Made of bombay sapphire gin, lemon juice blue curaçao and soda water with lemon boba. Served with a silver coloured straw.
"The Scrybe of Technology"
A bright blue bubblegum cocktail topped with sweet sparkling wine and lemonade. Served in a tall, angular glass. The most boring of the Scrybe cocktails tbh.
"Kilo-bites"
Byte-sized sharing platter of savoury pastries and square pizza slices made to look like floppy discs.
I'll be honest, I was drawing a blank for Po3's menu. Dude's Vox if Vox had self-control, which takes away a lot of vibrancy to bounce off of for flavour profiles and visual ideas.
Tumblr media
Bonus Mycologist dish:
Roasted ox-tongue mushroom, stuffed with mushroom paté and blue cheese with a creamy but sharp cheese sauce.
Ngl, Leshy's is my favourite menu. Definitely tempted to make it, maybe for an Inscryption themed party?
Note
Congratulations on your turn as Iris! I'm so happy to hear you're treading the boards again!
I might get the chance to visit San Francisco early in next year, and I was wondering if you might have any suggestions of fun things to do, off the beaten path a bit, in the colder months in that fair city?
I greatly apologize for taking so long to answer this! While many of my favorite things are gone (I still weep for steampunk stores and revival movie houses,) there are still cool, unique things to do on a trip. Here are some of them which were open as of a year ago.
Japantown Mall: The best place to be, hands down. The mall itself has amazing authentic Japanese food, a giant half-Japanese and half-English bookstore with a whole level devoted to manga and light novels, and lots of small stalls of crepes and boba tea. Across the street you'll find the Crown and Crumpet, a cute tea room with an upper floor that sells EGL brands. Even if you don't buy anything, just walking around is a great day!
Golden Gate Park: Take a walk and see the beauty of nature! Have a snack at the Japanese Tea Garden while admiring the koi pond! If the tickets aren't too expensive, go to the Academy of Sciences aquarium and say hi to the albino alligator for me! Admire the Shakespeare garden if it's in season! Another fun place to be for a whole afternoon.
Lupa Trattoria: The best Italian food I've ever had in the United States.
Haight-Ashbury: While not the goth and hippie paradise it used to be, this is still a cool couple streets. There's a science fiction bookstore called Borderlands, another cool indie bookstore called Booksmith, a huge vintage clothing store called Relic Vintage, and some pretty good thrift stores as well.
City Lights: Not done book shopping? Go to the place that published beat generation writings back in the day, which now sells an eclectic collection of intellectual, classic and offbeat titles. When I would get a book and go read it at the nearbye Cafe Zoetrope, I felt like the coolest person in the world.
Pier 39 Sea Lions: Sea lions!!! An earthquake sent them here, and they've stayed here ever since. They sit on a bunch of large rafts wrestling, showing off, or sleeping in the sun. They always cheered me up.
Exploratorium: A totally unique science museum that encourages you to touch and interact with the exhibits. They have special presentations as well, so check the website to see what's going on
Musée Mécanique: Do you want to take a headlong plunge into the uncanny valley? Of course you do! This free mini-museum has animations and carnival games from yesteryear, and the huge and terrifying Laughing Sally. It's in walking distance of Pier 39, too.
Lovejoy's Tea Room: They catered my wedding!!! Great tea and pastries, and a super cozy atmosphere, plus you sometimes get to see egl friends have meetups in gorgeous attire.
The Castro: As gentrified as it's gotten, there's still something wonderful about a neighborhood with rainbow crosswalks and pride flags waving everywhere. Sob outside of the late lamented Castro Theater (now a concert venue,) go to a souvenir store, walk down to Bi-Rite Creamery for ice cream if the line isn't too long.
Bourbon and Branch, Smuggler's Cove: If you like vintage cocktails, have a night out at Bourbon and Branch, a retro speakeasy, or Smuggler's Cove, an amazing tiki bar. Call ahead for B&B, since you need reservations and the password.
Folsom Street Fair: If you ever go again in summer and are not squicked by kink, check out this fetish festival! (And no, scaremongers, children can not actually get in and be traumatized by this, as they check your ID.) Buy a corset, have experts tie you up, get sex ed from guys who've been teaching it for fifty years, see everybody in their awesome outfits. (It is somehow always on the hottest day of the year, though, so stay hydrated, especially if you're in head to toe leather.)
The Alamo Drafthouse: While not unique to San Francisco, I'm always happy to be in a city that has one of these. This movie theater shows new films, classics and cult favorites, and you can order food while you watch (try the milkshakes!) One of my best moviegoing experiences was when they showed The Lost Boys, and all the goths in the lobby looked at each other and nodded, like yeah, we all know why we're here.
