CBR, that is not a good comparison
To put this into perspective for the homies who haven’t watched Dragon Ball:
This is like saying “He had an IQ of 70, which is very low for humans. In contrast, Nicholas Tesla had an estimated IQ of 235”

Here with another post on DB vs Vivziepop. Today, I'm still on the topic of POC characters, but this time, Latino characters 🎉🎉🎉
3 examples will be shown.
Tumblr media
Here is Broly. Broly is a near-human alien. Even though he isn't human, he is a POC character. In fact, he had his own movie!!! I love it when POC characters aren't kept behind!! Okay, so Broly isn't exactly Latino (like I said earlier, he's an alien), but as a Latina, I most definitely headcanon him as Latino and actually, most of the Hispanic DB community has. My people praise him alongside other DB characters!! His skin tone even matches mine!!! This is what I love about both DB and Splatoon, show, not tell!! Vivziepop is always telling about her characters' sexualities and race, but doesn't really show it when it's not a harmful stereotype.
Tumblr media
Here is Vannie. (not calling her by her actual name and also not using her outfit from the show because it sucks) Vannie is a demon. Vivziepop stated that she's supposed to be Salvadoran, yet there's no coding, besides her VA being Hispanic. So you're telling but not showing? You could change her skin tone to an actual Salvadoran skin tone, you could give her an outfit reminiscent of traditional Salvadoran outfits, but apparently that didn't happen. She doesn't even look Latina! I don't even know what she could be. Heck, Broly could pass as being Salvadoran easily.
Tumblr media
Here is Goku. Just like Broly, he is an alien. He has some of the most unintentional Latino coding!!! He is my people's icon!!! He is one of the most loveable characters of the franchise and is the most recognized among our community. Goku may not be officially Latino, but in my heart (and in the hearts of the Hispanic DB community) he is. And like I said, coding is everything!! Show, not tell!!! Go wild!!
Until next time, Vivziepop critics.

Ok, how would you feel about my idea for an alternate 24th Budokai AU: here, Vegeta and Piccolo manage to destroy Gero and 19 wholesale, Trunks takes them all at their word that the Androids were defeated handily, and with that everyone agrees to enter the upcoming 24th Budokai (timeline may need to be switched around a bit, we don’t know when exactly it happened. Satan’s overconfidence at the Cell Games may have originated from a quite recent Budokai win). Anyway, since we know this tournament also featured the inaugural Juniors division, Gohan ends up fighting a young Videl in the finals.
Meanwhile, the main tournament bracket turns out like:
Match 1
- Krillin vs. Tenshinhan
Match 2
- Son Goku vs. Future Trunks
Match 3
- Piccolo vs. Mr. Satan
Match 4
- Vegeta vs. Yamcha.
The tournament would take place shortly after Goku wakes up, so everyone is pretty much exactly where they were power wise at the beginning of the Android arc. A few notes:
- The quality of fighter has noticeably dropped - guys like Namu, Chappa and Tao remember how hopelessly outclassed they were last time, so the guys entering here are the noobs we saw at the 25th Budokai: Pintar, Jewel, Killa, Mighty Mask, (pre-Majin) Spopovich and of course, Mr. Satan himself
- Krillin-Tien would be a very technical, throwback to the old tournament fights, with Krillin winning to finally shut up the weirdos who supposedly genuinely believe Toriyama wasn’t including Tien when he stated the former was the strongest Earthling
- Goku and Trunks would quickly break the “no Super Saiyan” rule, with Goku coming out on top but Trunks still viewing the contest as a positive learning experience
- Piccolo-Satan would be a pure comedy bout. Piccolo wins with ease, although if the Buu arc still played out similarly in this AU it may prove to be disastrous later on
- Vegeta-Yamcha would play out similarly to Piccolo-Krillin from the 23rd tournament. Vegeta is overconfident, gives Yamcha a beat down initially but Yamcha turns it around and genuinely hurts (base) Vegeta with the Rōgafūfūken and Sōkidan, before he angrily ends the fight in retaliation. Goku, Krillin, Tien and Gohan all rush to the ring and congratulate Yamcha on the effort, while Vegeta quietly (and begrudgingly) gives out some praise
- Goku and Vegeta obviously advance to the finals. Don’t have much to say on a Goku-Krillin rematch, but I’m sure someone could come up with an interesting take on it. SSJ Vegeta-Piccolo is obviously a very popular hypothetical in the fandom
- The Goku-Vegeta finale would probably end with either A. A confused Imperfect Cell showing up and a big 1st Broly film style group battle taking place, or B. Perfect Cell showing up, who found Gero’s lab and absorbed 17 and 18 in secret, declare his intent to host the Cell Games and allowing the Z-Fighters time to train for it.
That’s a rough, very long winded outline anyway. What do you think?
A small note: More than the timeline would need to be switched around, since we do know the 24th happened after the Cell Games. Cell describes the Tenkaichi Budokai as a tournament that used to exist, but doesn't anymore.
Tumblr media
This is why it took over fifteen years for the 24th to occur. The tournament was cancelled after Goku and Piccolo's title bout. For. Uh. Obvious reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of people were definitely killed during that.
This was a recreational martial arts tournament for a ~$3,000 cash prize. If Tom Brady suddenly wiped Florida off the map in the middle of the Super Bowl, we'd be having serious conversations about the NFL right now.
So one of their athletes killed the whole island that the tournament's set on and then they never held it again after that. Seems reasonable. Well, until Mr. Satan singlehandedly defeated Cell, claimed the tournament Cell was reviving as a spoil of war, and then remade it in his own image.
But that's fine. There are no barriers to writing; only obstacles for a writer to overcome.
As far as the matches go....
I don't think Goku and Trunks need to break a "No Super Saiyan" rule, necessarily. That rule only existed to avoid media attention after they were all seen in Super Saiyan form at the Cell Games.
Tumblr media
If the Cell Games haven't happened, I'm not sure why they'd settle on a rule like this. Especially a Vegeta who's still somewhere around start-of-Android-arc characterization.
For Vegeta and Yamcha, I have a hard time seeing Yamcha even momentarily getting the better of Vegeta. Even in his base form, Vegeta is worlds beyond Yamcha in direct combat, and he also has the focus and attention to his surroundings to not lose track of the Sokidan.
That's not to say it couldn't happen, but the vibe would be different. This isn't Yamcha's fight to win; It's Vegeta's to lose, and letting Yamcha actually get a hit in on him would be a sign that Vegeta's cockiness is getting the better of him.
Which... is appropriate for this stage of his development. Vegeta starts fighting a lot stupider between the Namek and Android arcs. Overconfidence from achieving the Super Saiyan coupled with the Super Saiyan itself fucking with his head shunts him from one of the cleverest, most practical, and most observant fighters on the scene to a dim-witted sledgehammer.
Letting Yamcha actually pressure him, even for a moment, might be the wakeup call Vegeta needs to get his head back in the game and maybe fight smarter for his more genuinely difficult matches with Piccolo and Goku.

Daima vs. Super
Tumblr media
I’ve got a little time on my hands, so I thought I’d start on this series I wanted to do about Daima’s continuity with the other Dragon Ball series. I’m starting with Dragon Ball Super because I think that’s the simplest one to discuss. I will be spoiling both shows under the cut, so keep that in mind.
All right, so when Daima was first announced, my initial assumption was that it would be set after Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.  The Broly movie, Super Hero, the Moro and Granolah manga arcs each take place after the final episode of the DBS anime. But Pan was three years old in Super Hero, so it seemed like the only real question was whether a new project would be set after the “End of Z”.  Maybe I should make a little timeline of the DBS continuity.
Dragon Ball 1-153
Dragon Ball Z 1-288
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods or Dragon Ball Super anime 1-18, or manga 1-4
Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F or Dragon Ball Super anime 19-27
Dragon Ball Super anime 28-131 or manga chapter 5-42
Dragon Ball Super Movie 1: Broly
Dragon Ball Super manga ch.42-87 (Moro and Granolah arcs)
Dragon Ball Super Movie 2: Super Hero, or manga chapter 88-100
Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 101-?
Dragon Ball Z 289-291 (”End of Z”)
As it turned out, Daima was revealed to be set two years after the defeat of Kid Buu, which I believe puts it two years before the events of Battle of Gods and the beginning of the DBS anime.  So in terms of DBS, Daima is like a prequel series. Both shows are set in the “ten year gap” between Kid Buu and the finale of DBZ, but Daima takes place before Beerus or any other DBS stuff happens.
Alternately, we could look at Daima as a hard reboot. It feels like the mission statement of Super was to fill in the “ten year gap”, and now we have Daima, which looks like it’s starting all over again.  It’s only twenty episodes long, and it only covers a single adventure in Year Two of the gap, but one could imagine a number of sequel series that might continue covering the Ten Year Gap without any regard for the events already established by Super.
I say this because there are a couple of glaring discontinuities between Daima and Super.  The first is only natural: Since Daima is set before Super, there’s no way for Super to acknowledge any of the events in Daima.  In particular, Super Saiyan 4 is revealed in Daima, but Goku never mentions it in Super.
This could easily be explained away by Goku abandoning the form after Daima Episode 20 and before he met Beerus in Battle of Gods.  He challenged Beerus to a match on King Kai’s planet, and went Super Saiyan 3, claiming it was his strongest form. But in Daima #20, Goku claims he discovered the form while training after Kid Buu. So that only leaves us with three options.
Goku was fibbing to Beerus and kept SSJ4 a secret for no apparent reason.
Goku had reached a point in his training where he decided SSJ4 wasn’t practical for combat.
Daima and Dragon Ball Super are simply incompatible.
I’m not fond of any of these options, since I feel like the whole point of introducing Super Saiyan 4 in Daima was to make it part of the wider Dragon Ball continuity. If Daima’s in it’s own little compartment, then that’s no different from the original SSJ4 debut in GT.  If Goku has a stronger form in his arsenal and chooses to hide it from an opponent like Beerus, then that defeats the entire purpose of it.
Option 2 is the simplest way to go, but it also breaks Super Saiyan 4, and that’s no fun. You can make the case that Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue, and Ultra Instinct will obsolete SSJ4 anyway, but if Goku abandons the form before he even meets Beerus, then it’s basically just a one-off.  He used it against Gomah that one time and never again?  Weak.
I suspect that if Toyotaro plans to continue the DBS manga, he may want to work Daima lore into his stories, and he might no-prize some of these issues away. For example, we saw Black Frieza defeat Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta, so maybe the key to victory is for Goku to combine UI with SSJ4, sort of like how he stacked Super Saiyan Blue with the Kai-o-ken.  I could see him trying that, especially since he had Goku rapidly switching between God and Blue when he fought Zamasu in the manga.
Or maybe Goku brings SSJ4 back because he decides it’s the best way to maximize his own Saiyan power. The Granolah arc had a lot to do with Goku and Vegeta finding their own paths forward, as opposed to simply imitating Whis and Beerus with their UI and UE forms. Maybe training with Broly would help them figure out what they really need to do, and SSJ4 might be the missing piece of the puzzle.
There’s a way to deal with it, is what I’m saying.  The thing about Super is that it isn’t really over yet, since Toyotaro recently published that Trunks special that I haven’t read yet.  I would imagine he wouldn’t have bothered unless he had bigger plans for the future of the manga, and that Black Frieza situation still needs to be addressed.  So if Toei and Shueisha want to tie Daima and Super together in one neat little package, that’s probably how it’ll be done.
The second discontinuity is the whole deal with Kibitoshin.  This one doesn’t bother me as much because the Dragon Ball Super franchise was so inconsistent with itself on things like this.  Let’s review.
Tumblr media
In Dragon Ball Z Episode 267, the Elder Kai reveals that the Potara Earrings can be used for fusion, and suggests that the Supreme Kai and Kibito try to use their own Potara Earrings to fuse together.  They do, only to find out that it’s permanent.  Kibitoshin remains a fixture in the Dragon Ball cast through the events of Battle of Gods in 2013. In both the movie and the anime adaptation in DBS 1-14, Kibitoshin remains fused throughout.
Tumblr media
However, the manga adaptation of the comic took a different direction.  There’s a subplot with the Old Kai sending Kibitoshin to collect the Namekian Dragon Balls, because he thinks Beerus might be planning to use them for something, but it turns out to be a red herring.  At the end of Chapter 3, the Kibito and the Supreme Kai reveal that they used the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish for their separation. This was published on August 15, 2015.
Tumblr media
I suspect Toyotaro did this in order to set up Kibito and Shin’s appearance in the Universe 6 tournament arc.  In Dragon Ball Super Episode 32, they show up to watch Beerus and Champa’s tournament.  Goku notices that they’re separate again, and they explain that they used the Namekian Dragon Balls to undo their fusion.  From an anime-only standpoint, this is treated like a big surprise, as they hadn’t been seen since the end of the Beerus fight in Episode 14.  It could be a callback to chapter 3 of the manga, except the manga’s version of Battle of Gods is completely different from the anime, where Kibitoshin did not use the Namekian Dragon Balls. DBS 32 aired on February 21, 2016.
So on top of all of that, now we have Daima Episode 1, where Goku notices Kibito and Shin have unfused, and this time they explain that Majin Buu helped them separate..  Daima is set two years before Battle of Gods, so the implication here is that it doesn’t fit with Super at all.  Kibitoshin shouldn’t exist in Battle of Gods, or in any episode of the DBS anime, and he shouldn’t have needed the Namekian Dragon Balls to unfuse in the manga because he would have already done it with Buu a long time ago.
To me, it doesn’t really matter, since there’s three different versions of Battle of Gods that tell wildly different versions of the same story.  Expecting Daima to line up with any of them is kind of pointless, since they don’t line up with one another. I’m pretty sure Akira Toriyama just wanted an unfused Supreme Kai for this story, but he didn’t want to set it after Kibitoshin got unfused in DBS.
This is, of course, easily resolved if we assume Kibito and Shin re-fused sometime between the end of Daima and the beginning of Battle of Gods.  A few suggestions on how to accomplish this:
1) Majin Buu’s interior somehow has the power to dissolve fusions, but only temporarily.  If you get out of Buu’s body, you automatically re-fuse after one year.  This didn’t happen with Vegito because Goku and Vegeta are mortals, and according to Gowasu in DBS 66, Potara fusion is only permanent when at least one Kai is involved.  So Vegito separated inside Buu’s body, but didn’t recombine because his time limit expired first.  But Kibitoshin’s fusion had no time limit, so he recombined later, requiring him to use the Namekian Dragon Balls later on.
2) Kibito and Shin slip on a bunch of banana peels and their earrings fall off and they re-fuse.
3) The Elder Kai tells them to try the Potara again and they fall for it all over again like a couple of dummies.  I mean, it was kind of stupid how they fused together in the first place, so it’s not like they need a sensible reason to re-fuse later on.
4) During some as-yet-unseen adventure, Kibito and the Supreme Kai reluctantly choose to fuse together to defeat a powerful bad guy.  Seriously, they did get a big power boost from the fusion.  I think that gets overlooked, because they were no match for Majin Buu either way, but Kibitoshin could still be a badass against lesser villains. I bet he could give Perfect Cell a run for his money.
Again, I could see Toyotaro tackling this if he plans to continue the DBS manga and if he wants to work Daima lore into his stories.  It’d be a little awkward, since this second Kibitoshin fusion would have to take place several years before Black Frieza, but this is the same guy who did a whole page to explain where Dr. Hedo got the inspiration for the Gammas’ capes.
It is also possible that Daima and Super will wind up being left as separate things.  The precedent may have been set that future projects will be standalone sequels to DBZ without necessarily connecting to GT, Daima, Super, or one another. I tend to doubt this, though, since Daima does include some lore from Super.  Gowasu and the Supreme Kais of the other universes are shown, and Goku’s home universe is still said to be in Universe 7.  It’s not much, but it’s a pretty clear continuation of the cosmology from Battle of Gods and Super.
And there’s nothing to outright contradict Super.  We don’t see anyone in Daima say that Super Dragon Balls don’t exist, or that Ultra Instinct is impossible, or that the Pilaf Gang was brutally murdered in a gangland shooting. It’s not like GT, where both Super and Daima seemed to go out of their way to rule out any possibility of a shared continuity.   But I’ll get into that another time...

DAIMA EP.19 (Spoiler) Review/theories
• 19 episodes in & I'm wondering if anyone still hasn't noticed that Goku's hand goes from adult size to kid size as he wiggles his fingers at the beginning of the OP.
• Aight, so they kept the shot of the Kadan castle crew in the OP. Missed opportunity.
• Everyone getting their bodies back felt as magical as I'd hoped. Vegeta's voice sounded extra deep for a minute there. Did Ryo Horikawa catch a cold for a bit?
• Wow, so their child forms really were holding them back to a degree.
• So Glorio was only helping Dr Arinsu to pay back a massive debt & actually isn't the mystery majin she mentioned before creating Kuu. That's fine too. Dr Arinsu showed an impressive amount of maturity/nuance in not retaliating with violence/murder. (She seemed genuinely hurt, too) She's even more interesting to me now.
• As I suspected, Vegeta's SSJ3 form looks better on his adult body. Same goes for Goku's Pseudo 4 form.
• Glorio rejoining the group had me teary eyed. The immediate acceptance. The embrace. The music. Goku finally getting Glorio's name right on purpose almost got me.
• Crazy that they let Vegeta beat on a main villain Gogeta-vs-Broly-style for that long. But the Tertian Oculus may actually be limitless, so, UNO REVERSE. This instant revive spell King Gohma keeps spamming is awfully similar to Buu's regeneration that gave everyone so much trouble in the Buu saga.
• Oh, I'm sure this "Book of Magic Items" will be brought up in reviews/theory videos for years to come.
• Clutch King Kuu, back at it again!
• Not surprised removing the Third Eye is that simple & silly.
• First Toriyama made sure we knew Vegeta legitimately loves Bulma, & now in Daima, he's made sure we all know Vegeta finds her INSANELY attractive. This scene will be infamous. (Also, new song)
• Goku starts off by harkening back to the first time he went Super Saiyan w/his hair flickering from black to gold, then it's a short recreation of the very first time he went SSJ 3 in the Buu saga. Gotta say, all the heavy, dramatic shading, facial expressions & some of the animation in the scene of him going further beyond SSJ3 just screamed to me "Dragon Ball Deliverance". I like that Pseudo 4's glow was visible from all 3 demon worlds. (Cool new song, too)
• Not gonna name drop the new form yet, ey? Cheeky. Though, again, since it seems to be a magic-based form, Goku'll probably not be able to use it on his own post-finale. He'll probably say he'll train to get that strong on his own someday.
• Golly, the really saved half the soundtrack for these last couple episodes.
• Naotoshi Shida, I SEE YOU! Can't wait to see you go crazy next week.

A DBS MANGA CHAPTER 102 REVIEW. KINDA...
Some stuff about chapter 102 of the DBS manga I don't really like/I want to quickly discuss. Meant to post this last month but didn't. I'm behind on a lot of things.
All those folks saying True UI is Goku's strongest form... The upcoming chapter says otherwise. Goku uses the silver haired UI form & Beerus apparently views that as Goku at his strongest. Heck, Goku calls it his best move. Good job Toyo for creating True UI (black hair) and confusing fans to believe that was stronger than Mastered UI (silver hair) when in reality True UI is simply UI Sign (black hair) that changed how UI works so it matches more closer to how the anime depicted the technique. UI Omen in the anime allowed Goku to use his emotions, but the more control he has over them, the stronger he becomes until he transforms into Mastered UI. UI Sign in the manga was depicted as Goku needing to be emotionless & stated that emotions hinder the power. This was from the ToP Saga all the way until Toyotaro "created" True UI to function off of controlled emotions like how the DBS anime always has & gave it Omen the name "True Ultra Instinct." [Link to a long post that I paraphrased, so you ain't gotta read it unless you're really interested.]
Tumblr media
I get tired of the same expressions in this Super Hero Saga. Its a pouty or surprised face accompanied with an oval shaped mouth. Toyotaro is overusing the hell out of that. Here's a compilation & I left out like 4 other panels with this same expression. (There's more in CH 103)
Tumblr media
I saw ppl talking about the poses when Goku & Gohan fight look cool.... Looks pretty stiff imo. At least from what I've seen. Lacks a feel of movement. And you don't even see most of the fight. It doesn't make it cool imo. We've seen MUI in action against powerful opponents. If MUI Goku & Beast Gohan are close to equal strength, why not show actual combat between the two other than the aftermath of clashes? There was more attention to choreography with Gohan vs Trunks & Goten than there is with Gohan vs Goku. (Chapter 103 does better with the combat for Goku vs Gohan)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toyotaro doing the "this form is called such & such" is weird for me. Seems like he's trying to hype up Western fans or something. Like when Goten & Trunks name Gohan's potential unleashed form "Ultimate." Its just dialogue for the sake of some sort of fanservice. Some ppl will like it, others wont. I just wasn't a fan of it. Feels like its placed here just for fanservice. If they called it ultimate & didn't draw too much attention to it, I would've prefered that. Its naming it but not stopping the narrative flow.
Tumblr media
Also wasn't a fan of Goku asking Gohan is his new power was SSJ2 or SSJ3. Goku knows dang well Gohan's Potential Unleashed form is far stronger than SSJ2 & was stronger than SSJ3. He should've just asked "So, what's this form of yours?" and leave it there.
Tumblr media
Some Vegeta fans are calling him a proud uncle when he smiles at Gohan & Goku about to spar. No, he is a Saiyan who is ready to see a good fight just as Broly smiled when he watched Goku & Vegeta fight. Is there some pride there? Yes. But Vegeta ain't no uncle figure to Gohan. That's Piccolo & Krillin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why are Carmine & Soldier 15 there on Beerus' planet? Goku could have just had his sons & Trunks put a hand on his shoulder then teleported. And why would Gohan see Carmine & 15 who shot at his home & at him, turn Beast out of anger, then hop into the same vehicle as them as if he forgot what happened in the last chapter? It was literally a few seconds ago.

This was just for them to record Goten & Trunks in their costumes (can they even keep up with how fast they are moving?) And it just seems like a plot device that won't matter at all. Anyone remember 7-3 in the Granolah Saga?was there for a moment & served no purpose other than a reference. I bet this with Carmine is for a simple joke to be quickly thrown aside.

In a boring work meeting and suddenly have YET ANOTHER comic idea...word vomiting it here to pass the time:
Say it's sometime after the Cell Games (so Goku is dead) and Chichi manages to snag an interview for Gohan at some high level prestigious school (kinda like in the Broly movie). Except as usual these prestigious interviews are allll about appearances and money and Chichi is kind of hesitant at appearing as a "single mom" with Gohan when they attend the interview because she doesn't wanna be discriminated against and lose the chance for Gohan to get into the school. So she proposes they drag Vegeta along as a replacement cause he looks like a close enough substitute for Goku 🤣
Gohan protests against this cause he's all "why do we have to lie?" and "if they have a problem with it then it's not a school I wanna go to" and "that's just not right!" etc., but Chichi's like "this school could make you so successful" and puts her foot down. So Gohan proposes they take Piccolo instead but of course Chichi rejects that suggestion cause he's big and green. Maybe he proposes Yamcha too but Yamcha is also rejected (idk maybe Chichi thinks Yamcha will give off poor people vibes vs Vegeta would give off royal vibes or something and make them look good cause he's a prince idk 🤣)
ANYWAYS Vegeta obviously declines to help but after pressure (AKA threats) from Bulma he's shoved in a suit (and LOL what if they also split his hair into two pieces with a clip to look like Goku 🤣 maybe too much. But maybe for the lols). They all head to the interview together...cue shenanigans.
Chichi would probably keep pointing out "he's a prince!" and Vegeta would refuse to speak and Gohan straight up wants to jump off a bridge 🤣
Super duper rough preliminary doodles:

Anyways...it would be funny 🤣

This is a fun idea! I love Tien so a part of me wants him to win, but I know Krillin is supposed to be stronger...I just hope Tien puts up a hell of a fight :) If you ever expand on this, I recommend making the characters use some new techniques (either ones they came up with or existing techniques they haven't been shown using before but learned), as that was something I enjoyed immensely about past tournaments. Yamcha, Tien and Piccolo could use Kaio-Ken, for example.
