The art and the writing are not mine, but I do plan on actually drawing a custom cover for the last 25 chapters so I don't feel guiltly snagging someone else's art for it.

So that's the front cover! The story heavily focuses on Oboro and Izuku's growing relationship so for the first book (I can only print so much in one book), so I knew right away I wanted for the two of them to be seperated on the front and back of the covers for the first book, and for them to be together for the second book (symbolizing their friendship growing).

That's why I threw Izuku onto the back cover with the description, along with them having the day/night theme. I feel like the day/night cycle symbolizes them pretty well.

Obviously, required spine with title on it so I don't lose it amongst my other books. I meshed their sky colors together with a blend tool and changed their opacity in the middle so they come together for the spine.

And here is the second page, because I wanted the first page to be the gap page (if that makes sense) in case printing went wrong. I also included a cute piece of fanart I found for the fic along with a quote because I found it rather adorable.

Following is where it gets messy. I was able to download the full fanfic off of Ao3, but the file was so large word just died out on me so I switched over to just copy and pasting, editing while I go. Especially since I wanted to go through and format. That's when I noticed the author has begun to go back and re-edit through the book to update it to their current writing style, because I have such convient timing lmao.

I indented the chapter titles down a good few lines, made the first part of every chapter a bigger font than the rest, and just went to town. I also found a very lovely page break online that I added, since it fit the theme and looked rather nice.

In total, this physical version totalled to about 650 pages for the first 25 chapters. The end page down below, along with some more fanart:

I think in total, making everything took me about a week or two to do? Since I put it into a google doc, I was able to work on it during slow hours at my job and knock it out. Obviously printing and shipping added onto that time, so in total I'd say around a month to produce it?

I absolutely adore it, it came in this morning and I was grinning like an idiot while I checked it out. I plan on editing the last 25 chapters and making some art myself for it, since I: A. Need to actually draw fanart for this platonic duo, love them, and B. Have a very specific idea for them I want to do for the cover.

Definitely made some mistakes along the way for this first one, but there's only up to go in doing this! I love being able to physically hold it and it's definitely going on my self for a constant read. It's so beautiful!!!!

@lowlywriter I'll figure out how to condense down instructions on how to print it, along with getting a zip file of the cover layout and everything for it. (And I mentioned this earlier but I definitely did see the writing changes, last I checked you finished chapter 4 I believe? So there definitely is a writing tone shift in the book but I don't mind lol).

I'm so happy with the final result and I can't wait to tackle the last 25 chapters aaaaaaaa!!!!!!

Every so often i remember one of your aus and become fully obsessed for a few hours. I am having the time of my life imagining end of and era where the minds of the vestiges jump back too, and Izuku talks with them like he did in the vigilante arc. He could have someone to rant with about afo's bullshit <33

Not going to lie I also do that, and wildly, i was reading through end of an era like 5 minutes ago!

I don't think I ever mention what the vestiges are up to, so this is like, shrodinger's canon lmao. I like to imagine this version of the au sees an even more maladjusted Izuku, considering he and the vestiges have all been through enough shit they don't really know where to draw the line between normal and wildly fucked up. He is better socially though, because hes got a cheer squad in the back of his head reminding him not to be weird about things.

He got like, a full bowl of fluffy, perfectly white rice from lunch rush for the first time in years and almost had a massive breakdown in the cafeteria (he'd been unintentionally avoiding foods they hadn't been able to eat as they'd either run on stolen goods (risky) or subsistence farming (vulnerable)). Nana is there patting his back when Yoichi cheerfully talks about the time he puked eating white rice because he'd gone on a 2-week hunger strike and forgot how much sugar was in rice when he started eating again.

Wildly, it helps.

This au also features a lot of really scary muttering from Izuku about murder plans. His friends desperately do not want him to be put on a list so whenever someone comes over they start talking really loudly to cover up the violence-heavy conversation Izuku seems to be having with himself. They all think the plans are for Bakugo and not one of them thinks they should warn him.

Boy had it coming.

Let's Talk About Shinsou

*Note: Lmao, do I tag this as Anti Shinsou or Pro Shinsou??*

Despite being a pretty popular character overall, Shinsou seems to be under a lot of scrutiny with my fellow Bakugou antis. And I understand why. Our first introduction to him isn't a pleasant one; he's first shown taunting Class 1A about being attacked by villains (a generally traumatic experience) out of jealousy. It's also been noted that Aizawa spends more time training him than his actual class (though, this is more of an issue with Aizawa than Shinsou). Personality wise, he (subjectively) isn't pleasant or very entertaining either.

I'm impartial to him myself as I don't love him or hate him. He's just... there really (a fate many characters suffer). But you know what I think of when I think about Shinsou's character? Wasted potential.

My Hero Academia is constantly tossing the term rival around the show. There's the rivalry between Izuku, Bakugou, and Todoroki which is why they became the main trio (don't @ me for this I'm speaking technicalities here). There's also the infamous (one-sided) rivalry between All Might and Endeavor, a driving force behind not only Endeavor's actions against his family but a large part of the overall plot of the show.

When I first watched the Sports Festival and Izuku's match with Shinsou, I was positive they were setting them up to be rivals.

No, I don't mean the "rivalry" Izuku has with Bakugou (Bakugou stans don't @ me). I don't mean the friendly rivalries he has with Todoroki or Iida either.

I mean a straight-up rivalry. Where they don't become friends. Where they don't get along with or like one another (maybe a grudging respect at the most). I was sure Shinsou was going to be someone to constantly challenge Izuku; not only on a physical level, but ideologically too.

The Sports Festival partially set this up by calling attention to the similarities between Izuku's past and Shinsou's. While Izuku was discriminated against for his lack of quirk, Shinsou was treated differently and outcast because he had a "villainous" quirk. But they take on two different attitudes. Shinsou is bitter and full of contempt while Izuku was optimistic and determined to help a world full of people who shunned him. The show was deliberately setting up parallels between them.

But this dynamic is almost non-existent. Whatever interaction they do get is towards the end of the manga (Shinsou was introduced in the Sports Festival, an extremely early part of the series and in the show he's non-existent until season 5). And there's none of the previous complexity there was before.

Even if Shinsou was unlikable overall, it might have been worth it for him to be Izuku's real rival. His opposite not only in personality and attitude, but also heroics. Izuku can rely on his strength and the powers OF A give him, Shinsou would have to rely on his skills and brain. Their quirks are somewhat opposite to one another (at least in how they use them). Seeing them have to work together even though they'd usually approach things differently would have been way better than what we usually get.

I think that dynamic would have been a lot more interesting to watch than the trio or whatever you can Izuku and Bakugou (I will not refer to them as the Wonder Duo because wtf is that).

What do my fellow antis think? Would Shinsou have been a good rival if written well enough? Is there anyone else you would have preferred? Personally, I'd take anything over Izuku and Bakugou.

*Note: While we're on this topic, I think Monoma could have been Bakugou's rival. Someone who's calm and collected to contrast Bakugou's temper and whose quirk can easily rival his. I would have preferred that over subjecting Izuku to abuse under the guise of rivalry. I really wish Horikoshi would have kept them separate and allowed them to grow as heroes on their own without their toxic, codependent relationship. Maybe I would have tolerated Bakugou more. Monoma also isn't bothered by Bakugou so he wouldn't have had to go through the same thing Izuku did*

Okay thinking about the "Villain"!Izuku thing and who else would be very changed by this shift and so I'm gonna focus on Inko, Katsuki and Tomura because that's- that's the shift.

SO!

Inko!

I had it that Inko runs into AfO at the doctor's office while trying to get answers on Izuku's Quirk and so at this point she's still married to Hisashi. And....

Hisashi does NOT like AfO, but more for his own 'Oh that's Inko's baby daddy that she MUST be so hung up on!' than any legitimate 'AfO is bad vibes' thing. Ofc Inko would never cheat on her husband regardless, but it does make some of Hisashi's nastier behaviors come out which leads to tension.

Which. Would probably be the reason for the divorce instead of Izuku's 'Quirklessness'. Because AfO would know not only that the doctor's diagnoses is fake but also what exactly to look for to see if Izuku inherited his Quirk which oh hey he did!

AfO also might be egging this on. Partly for entertainment, partly because he realized real quick which one of them would've rejected Izuku if the fake-Quirkless diagnoses went through so he doesn't like Hisashi lmao.

Anyway. When Izuku goes missing, Inko is absolutely devastated. Her baby is gone! She has no idea what happened to him!

It also doesn't help that AfO kinda fucked off. He played the grieving parent enough and gave the excuse of 'oh it hurts to be around you because of the heartbreak I'm feeling!' meanwhile he just goes to some hidden villain lair where Izuku is eating a snack like :).

Inko doesn't lose hope, but she is realistic. She has to do her best and cope and move on. Gets herself some therapy so she doesn't fall apart. And she certainly ends up relying on the Bakugo family a lot for emotional support because ofc Izuku and Katsuki were bffs so they're all hurt by this too. She tries not to do that too much, especially when she found herself beginning to dote on Katsuki because she missed Izuku so much. But she is a constant in their lives still, and is the first person Katsuki calls when Izuku is found.

On to Katsuki!

Katsuki is...... weirdly well-adjusted? Also yes we're transfem-ing again

Like there's many factors. While she still had to deal with the Aldera Nonsense, there's two changes to how it's handled:

Firstly, without Izuku, there's less exasperation of the issues. Don't get me wrong, Izuku didn't invite mistreatment. But other kids that the school's mindset turned into targets knew better than to try and go up to Katsuki all 'ah yes my bff!'so there wasn't the percieved mocking to make a back-and-forth nor a singular long-term target.

The second change is that Katsuki's parents would've gotten her therapy to help her deal with the whole thing of 'her best friend fucking vanishing' which helps her work out other problems like what;s happening at school and the miscommunication at home.

Now, by UA, Katsuki is still somewhat prickly and has trouble making friends out of a fear that they'll disappear (especially Hero-course friends as she /knows./ they're in danger). But she's typically less outright hostile. Unless something sets her off like the way Shoto acted in the Sports Festival would piss her off tbh.

while Katsuki always wanted to be a Hero anyway, she thinks that being a Hero will help her find answers to Izuku. She believes he's still somewhere because no way did he get killed off. (She knows what his Quirk is, despite it being 'secret'. Because Izuku always tells Kacchan secrets.). As she's gotten older she has changed that outright belief to "I still believe it, but I will accept otherwise /if/ I can find proof".

Now on to Tomura:

As I said: Izuku may not be allowed to leave, but he's not isolated. He's allowed to interact with a few people, like Tomura. AfO expects the two to create a similar bond like himself and Yoichi. Which... they do but.....

Izuku accidentally makes it so that AfO's manipulation doesn't entirely work on Tomura. Partly because Izuku is still so full of hope and it inspires hope in others. And partly because Tomura can pick up on the difference in how AfO treats them. AfO cares about Izuku, but sees Tomura as a tool. Though he does a great job pretending otherwise, it's noticeable. Which makes Tomura /aware/ of the manipulation to an extent.

So while he's still very much going with the whole Situation™, there's less conviction in what he's doing.

as a long time bnha fan, had to drop some thoughts i’ve been having about the manga ending! i’ve held this series near and dear to my heart, through the moments when i felt it was great story telling and when i felt so much was missing, or didn’t quite hit the mark. so i definitely don’t think bnha (or hori) is above critique, i love to yap about this series ((:

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES BUT OF COURSE PARTICULARLY FOR CHAP 430

to me, there’s three main parts to the ending that i felt make sense:

izuku giving up OFA

izuku becoming a teacher

izuku still having the chance to be a true quirkless hero

going into depth on each of these, while i love the inclusion of these three pieces, i can understand why the actual execution didn’t land with folks. even i have my qualms! okay let’s get into it! ps. this is really me just yapping away from the heart so bare with it 🫰🏽

1) izuku giving up OFA:

I think this one should not come as too much of a surprise, given that the reveal of OFA essentially being the cause of the early demises of the previous holders sort of insinuated an uncontrollable aspect to the power. even though izuku has an advantage as someone who was quirkless, it still creates a sense of foreshadowing that this is a gift that might have an expiration date. of course, a part of me would have loved for him not to have given it up but there’s enough build up there that it doesn’t feel out of left field. in addition to the running theme in the series being that anyone can be a hero/a quirk doesn’t make a hero, there’s certainly some symbolism in izuku now affectively being without, making him a quirkless hero - what he had dreamed of since the first chapter.

2) izuku becoming a teacher:

personally, i really love this for him! as a consumer of many a fanfic, i have grown obsessed with this job alternative for him, since it allows him to continue to work in the hero field, he can inspire the next generation to save to win (that as long as you willing to extend that helping hand, that’s what being a real hero is), his analytic mind is doing important work, and can use his own experience to help others learn! “deku sensei” makes my heart so happy and if anything, i would’ve loved an extra chapter just to see him as a teacher. one thing ill add here is, i can understand some disappointment with this or frustration at hori because to some, it may seem izuku ended up becoming complacent and didn’t at least try to continue to pursue his dream of being a hero after the war. not sure where i fall on this, but food for thought.

3) izuku still having the chance to be a true quirkless hero (sorry this is gonna be long lol):

now to really get into the big reveal for this final chapter - a tech suit designed just for izuku (at the main request of a one katsuki bakugou, which yeah i Will Be Totally Normal About) so he can still be on the field as a pro-hero!! okay i also loved this, i won’t deny it as much as im on the deku sensei train! bnha is a series that is never going to please everyone and its ripe with many issues throughout but i do think this was a beautiful way to wrap it up. once again, from chapter 1, we are met with izuku who wants nothing more to be a hero despite being quirkless. i never really liked the argument of “well why didn’t he try harder or train up” when the series explains to us over and over again that this is a society that values quirks above all else. its a literal systemic issue (hitting close to home but i digress), where izuku would NEVER have been accepted as a quirkless hero no matter how hard he worked because it simply isn’t designed to allow that (also where the fuck would he have gotten the resources for that is beyond me lmao).

to me, this part was actually very important for bringing the story to a full circle in which we actually (somewhat, but arguable not completely) address the core issue and theme “people are not born equal”. instead of perpetuating a “pull yourself up by your boot straps” mindset, hori tells a story where we acknowledge the system and how it is working as intended - and that’s the very reason it needed dismantling. of course, i think along the way, we maybe lost the plot at times (thinking about how we didn’t fully address izuku’s martyrdom mindset, children get sent off to war multiple times, most of the villains being k*lled off rather than being saved as izuku wanted) but there’s much evidence of this. knowing that there was still the spirit of a hero in izuku - which is MADE SO CLEAR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HAVING A QUIRK - and he now has the chance to continue onward, quirkless. i mean c’mon, it’s really something (to me at least).

bonus note time

here’s a sprinkle of random lingering thoughts. one critique i saw was that it felt strange for izuku to accept he couldn’t be a pro-hero until his friends (ehm mainly Katsuki teehee) gifted him the suit. as if he really just gave up and this sort of hurts any character development for izuku. while i see the thought process here and would’ve also welcomed izuku getting the suit designed himself, it doesn’t upset me quite as much that this is how it actually played out. it’s definitely conflicting feelings for me because ultimately i would’ve loved for izuku to have had an arc where it was more explicitly stated that he overcame his overly sacrificial tendencies - or that the story spent time sitting with the trauma inflicted on the children fighting a war. but here is where bnha slacks off (imo) - we don’t get that breath to explore or analyze or genuinely know izuku’s thoughts or feelings on the matter (beyond that he’s sad that shigaraki died, enjoys being a teacher, and can admit that he misses his quirk). so in this way, it makes sense why hori chose this path. it’s more about his friends extending their hand to him, an offering of never leaving anyone behind who is a hero, quirk or not. i think of it as something more symbolic than it having to say anything about izuku’s character. i think for that to be addressed, there’s so many things further back we would need to unravel too lol

lastly - bnha is also a story about disabilities!! there’s been a decent amount of analysis on this so i won’t say much but i think this is also good to keep in mind. it helps for understanding the metaphor in place - quirks can be disabling and rather than creating a world that is accessible to all, the world requires that you figure it out instead. “people are not born equal” what if we dared to dream of a world that understood “we each take shape differently…” so that we might want to care for one another. so we can build something that makes the space for all of us to be able to live and thrive.

okay so that’s what i’m feeling now! like i said, i really love bnha and i simply can’t bring myself to say i hated the ending or anything. it’s a series that will always have a special place in my heart! there’s are just thoughts rattling in my brain and how ive interpreted things as someone whose read the manga the last 5 years! it’s crazy to look back and remember key moments that shook the fandom to its core. anyway, if you read all of this, thanks!! :D
