i feel like ever since i got into comics loki's stories ive been so disappointed w mcu loki bc they never really let him be morally grey. he goes from sympathetic villain to hero and doesnt ever really inhabit the middle ground ykw i mean. even after he takes the throne in the dark world what did he even do with all that power? nothing bc he didnt want it, after avengers at his very worst he's morally neutral. he just wants to make up for what he did

there's no real trickster element to his character, at least not in any way that feels satisfying. no huge double crosses, no centuries long plans that come to fruition in the last minute, no selfish schemes that put everyone else in legitimate danger even if he rights it in the end and it's for a good cause. he even gets outsmarted every once in a while. he's just a guy who made some mistakes designed for you to feel bad for

mcu loki hates himself because he's a frost giant and because he betrayed thor's trust and caused a rift in their relationship that can never be healed. comics loki hates themself because as the god of stories they understand their purpose in the narrative as someone who has to do what no one else wants to, who has to play the villain to move things forward and make the hard decisions. and this role makes them powerful and important because the storyteller understands the bigger picture better than anyone else, but it also makes them so incredibly lonely bc no one else around them will ever comprehend what theyre doing. to everyone else theyre sowing chaos just for the sake of it and by playing their part loki has destroyed every meaningful relationship theyve ever had. but to do anything else would be to doom everyone else entirely. theyre simultaneously trapped and freed by their narrative

LONG POSTT i wanna ramble ab illustrhater for a bit dont mind me

i infamously live for filler so i had a blast with the premiere episode :) i wanted to breifly (lmao) talk about this ep bc oh my goodness i have faith in the writers this season bc they understand our characters so well

the way mari wants to initiate casual intimacy with adrien but doesnt know how bc shes never played that role before in a relationship (luka initiated most of it honestly) was genuinely so cute. plus shes obviously not really scared of *him* but is scared to not be *enough for him* which is where i predicted any conflict between them would go. and i dont see this as regression but more as a realistic timeline for growing up with anxiety. bc mari isnt just anxious sometimes, she has anxiety!! shes an anxious person who over thinks everything, so it makes sense that she would over complicate the smaller things in life too. im so glad theyre staying true to that aspect of her character while still keeping some of her confidence.

mari then switching to ladybug every time she got overwhelmed by trying to be close with her “perfect boyfriend” was actually so funny. bc here she is manufacturing problems in her personal life, only to then go to her alter ego where she has so many other things to worry about, but because she didnt create the problem herself she wants to fix it! 😭😭 i loved that

and chat noir staying with her was so funny, he was just watching her spiral for so long im sure he was nervous for her. and adrien hesitating to leave the date 👀 im keeping tabs on that hehehehe. adrien in general was super chill and was very much not used to initiating intimate contact with mari, to the point where he didnt even pick up on their lack of casual closeness. i blame that on the trauma honestly.

and then the kwamataga, oh my god. i strongly believe that alya would be an amazing guardian and she was the most obvious choice (no i will not argue ab this, i am a chat noir is an equal truther to the bone but this is just different shhhhh). HOWEVER, i hate the role of the guardian. its just so sad. your memories being wiped? having a target on ur back until u are taken out or renounce your role? thats so heavy, and im sure mari deliberated over it for a while. but damn. i was hoping that mari would find a way to avoid the fate of the guardians before her. and now that burden is being passed over to alya…. my heart hurts for them. the brutal cycle continues.

Today, i'm thinking about Hadestown and the celebration of a doomed narrative. I'm always a sucker for a doomed narrative, but for Hadestown, it's different because of course it's heartbreaking, its devestating and unfair and they're so close, but also because it's seen as a triumph. Because the very first song it tells you what this story is. Even if you dont know the story of orpheus and eurydice, it tells you the basics going in. It's an old song, it's a love song, and most of all it's a sad song. It's a tragedy. And then the rest of the musical is spent falling in love with the characters. The whole story is spent making you forget that first song. And it works. You're rooting for them, you want them to succeed. They're walking out of hell theyre gonna make it and they can be happy and orpheus turns around. And it feels like a betrayal, because it's so heartbreaking because how did you forget? It's made more so by the Road to Hell reprise, when Hermes retells yoy everything he already said. When he stops singing and tells you what you forgot. It's a tragedy. It feels almost like a beratement, because of course he turns around, that's how it goes. Why would this time be any different? It feels like a cruel reminder of our own stupidity.

And yet...it's not. Hermes says it himself. There's power in knowing how it ends and singing it again anyway. It's a celebration of that stubborness to see them get a happy ending. A celebration of the fact that we're all just little kids demanding the story be told again and to get it right this time Because they deserve their happy ending, they deserve to get out, even if we know it's impossible. It's triumphant because in the face of gods and death and hell itself, we are here demanding it be done again and again because they have to get it right eventually. And its true, because I listen to the soundtrack over and over and each time I get to the end my heart is ripped out of my chest because I thought it was going to end differently this time. And when it doesn't, I listen to it again. It's a blessing from hermes to be defiant in the face of cosmic forces for the simple fact that they were in love and they should get to be in love. A celebration of not the tragedy, but the refusal of it.

i extended on something i wrote months ago in the subject of shinene codependency (and shinaya breakup) but its hidden in a Much longer post under a read more so i wanted to make it into its own post for my kagenalysis tag❤️:

to rant a bit abt the "personal narrative" of shintaro. i think it's interesting that shintaro is essentially a very self centered character and kagepro is very meta in the way it treats him as a main character. because inside of kagepro, he really gets as much focus as any other character, they're all "main" character to us. its rather inside the story he plays a very important role therefore he is the protagonist and as the protagonist he puts an end to the story itself too. i think this is all interesting together and fun to dissect shintaro's character as inherently self centered because that's what the story is. the initial premise is that he's a depressed guy living in regret he used to be "such a bad person" to someone he cared deeply about.

his self centeredness shows not only in the way he acts even without retaining activated, but he is really in the center of it. shintaro IS the protagonist and deep down even if he hasn't remembered yet, he knows that. so does everyone else. they all know they depend on him, sooner or later.

and i like to think of all this in a post str context thinking that the way he handles all that in everyday life once this story is over and theyre free from a narrative in the first place, is self destructive because its not compatible to being a normal person. he's a protagonist but there's nothing to be a protagonist OF anymore

so it IS taking him a bit to really LOOK at his friends and stop looking only for himself. technically he's lived a hundred doomed lives and now he's here trying out this one and again it is scary and new and... ene, who's been the most dedicated to centering her life around shintaro, is a clear safe place while navigating this.

he takes takane totally for granted because of this. in the narrative she has always been his sidekick. she has been the second main character to him. she has always lived and served him in all timelines, in all the time theyve known each other that she can't remember and he can, takane has been more ene than she's been takane to him, and ene has always been his annoying lap dog he hates as much as he needs in order for the story to move forward. takane of course reciprocrates the dynamic because it's also all she's known for a year. but... it's a year, vs. shintaro's God Knows How Many resets.

so eventually... as she is free from the narrative and very much her own person outside of him, capable of finding love and priorities somewhere else away from him and OUT LOUD tackling issues like hey we have a codependent dynamic going on we should work on, bc she does normal people stuff like going to therapy, takane moves on. which is mind blowing for shintaro AND HE DOESNT LIKE IT

he shuns it completely whenever takane brings it up, which she does a lot as time goes on. because time keeps going on. it keeps passing by. and everyone around him seems to be growing up and that's so infuriating and so terrifying and then stuff like ayano dating him and dumping him is as much of a reality check as ayano being alive in the first place, and he doesn't know what to do with it other than cry and thrive off the attention takane gives him again upon seeing him broken again.

he's in PAIN but it's familiar. it's comfortable. it's classic. it works. because the story he was a protagonist of was a tragedy, so he doesn't know how to behave when there is hope in the future. ❤️

Alsio you lilke homestuck. how worth it is it on a scale from 1-10 to read it. i have a friend that likes it and ive read like 140 somethingpages i think

i mean id say 10/10 its excellent. possibly the best story ive ever read. it starts out pretty silly but the plot pretty quickly expands to cosmic scales and its complexity and length are daunting but also some of its greatest strengths.

here are some things that make it awesome

multiple canon gay relationships. idk if there are any canonically straight characters but there are so many gay characters. theres an entire alien race who are mostly bisexual!

a lesbian vampire cuts two guys in half with a chainsaw. one of them was an incel potterhead and the other was a murderous juggalo. she marries her girlfriend at the end of the comic

if youre following me for amphibia as most of my followers are you probably like amphibians. theres are so many amphibians in homestuck. ive already spoiled enough so ill just say this: the universe is a frog. a literal giant cosmic frog

one of the coolest characters is a mailwoman who becomes a furry with god powers to avenge her friends. shes so awesome

betty crocker is a sexy alien fish empress

callieroxy exists. yknow doomed yuri? theyre undoomed yuri. they were doomed yuri who undoomed their own narrative

absolutely incredible usage of metafictional elements. before homestuck i found meta stuff like that really annoying and immersion-breaking but homestuck completely changed how i feel about well-done metanarratives

troll romance is actually so cool and makes shipping sooo fun

vrisrezi exists. toxic doomed yuri. theyre described by the author as “the axis around which the entire epic evolves.�� their toxic yuri is at the literal heart of the entire story

aradia…dead ghost girl who used to be a happy little girl before she was killed but when she came back as a ghost she was totally nihilistic and accepting of all doom…but shes brought back to life and just regains all her joy and its so beautiful
