the fact that ncuti gatwa and millie gibson pulled up to their first ever readthrough for one of the most iconic and long-running shows of all time only to find out that they would be performing a musical number to a group of cardboard-cutout goblins about eating a baby. their faces are fucking priceless. best bts footage to come out of unleashed so far. classic

Elder Scrolls is fascinating to me because the vast majority of the background information of the setting is very obviously written by people with an admirably clear-eyed understanding of how history is mainly just groups genociding the shit out of each other before constructing post-hoc rationalizations of why that was a cool and good thing to do, if they bother justifying anything beyond the level of Might Makes Right. And then the actual main quest plots are often operating at Sword Hero Cleanses The Undesirables levels of These Are The Bad Guys, Kill Them Because We Said So

more areas of overlap that i don't have room to edit in: unfashionably religious, significant scars, terrifying grandfather, hates killing people, fractious barons, etc etc etc

it was a really charming surprise to find out that the song ncuti and millie performed wasn't pre-recorded and that they literally just had to sing it on the fly while dancing around. most sequences like that would have just been lip-synced with the done up vocals being played in the background which always feels a bit inauthentic, but this just adds to the chaos of the scene and makes the stakes feel a bit more genuine, that ruby and the doctor are actually struggling to come up with this song to offer a proper distraction.
I know we talk a lot about how doctor who will always pick practical effects and costume over 'cgi-ed to a buggery', so I feel like this also deserved some acknowledgement

Doctor Who just isn't Doctor Who without the Doctor deciding to gruesomely kill someone for the good of the timeline.

what I love about rtd’s storytelling is how much emphasis is placed on the family and neighborhood

I think one of my problems with making friends in the writing community is that I am just constitutionally a fic writer. When I am in original "I want to be published" writing groups, I am always struck by how much the work for everyone else is important and mysterious (sorry, severance, had to steal the line) and I'm like... so, first, I need to do this or the clowns will eat me, but also, this is grubby fun. And they are probably better than me in every way, but I do not relate to their heart warming, intense sincerity. And they can tell.

Speculation about myths and salt (Spoilers for Doctor Who 2023 Specials 2-4!)
As a lot of people have picked up on, the line about The Doctor using a salt line at the edge of the universe allowing for myth and superstition to come true in some way seems to have paid off with The Toymaker. Not only was The Toymaker(likely) able to come into the main universe because of The Doctor's actions, but near the end of the episode Kate tells Unit personnel to surround The Toymaker's Box in a circle of salt.
Well, people have also noticed that in The Goblin Song, there's the line, "He's the Goblin King, yes the Goblin King! He's not a *myth*, he's an actual thing!"
Now, while that line does seem to feed into myth being an important part of the upcoming episodes, there's something else about The Goblin Song I haven't seen mentioned. Salt. When talking about seasoning the baby, salt is both the first and last seasoning mentioned and the only one mentioned twice. Quote, "Eat the baby, add some *salt*! Bay leaves, barley, powdered malt. Now baby's *salted*, she's a treat."
I just find it interesting that all three times that myth becoming reality is mentioned or used, salt is involved in some way. Could be an absolute coincidence, but of course, we all know how much the Goblin King loves coincidence.

RTD got his hands on that Disney budget and immediately thought of a bunch of funny gremlin puppets he could make the villains of every episode and I love him for that

The Goblin Song is the most campy and unhinged thing Doctor Who has done since The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon and I love it.
Also I am willing to fight and die for both 15 and Ruby Sunday and that is no joke.
