I was scrolling through my art folders on procreate, and I found this huge panoramic piece of a bunch of fnafsb Sun & Moon artists with mini versions of their Suns & Moons that I really looked up to.

Unfortunately it never really got past the sketching phase and even then I hadn’t gotten everyone drawn who I wanted to.

But looking back at it gives me this big smile and reminds me of all the good memories of the fandom I think I might as well share it.

Also mind you this is like a year old so it may not be entirely accurate to the designs.

Why I like to torture myself with these elaborate panoramic pieces with like 10+ individuals on a piece is beyond me.

Have you ever catch yourself wondering at times what if I could do it all over again? What if I could make it right this time? What if I could change my life into the way I’ve always wanted it to look like? Aha, if that’s the case. Honey, you’re at the right place.

A special shoutout to social media for accelerating the realm of competition which can really be a blessing in disguise at times. Only if you look at it from a lens of optimism, then you would agree with this.

“Competition is the fuel to your personal growth.”

PERIOD. Do you know why? A lot of whom you are comes back to your personal identity. And I’m a strong believer of you can absolutely change your life at anytime on any given day ONLY if you know how to shift your identity. Now we are talking baby!

I’m going to share with you 3 simple steps (no BS for real) that would help you to rebrand and reinvent yourself completely for good. Let’s go!

Self Reflection

There’s a reason why this is the #1 step for everything that you do in life. If something is going right, you have to reflect. If something is not going well, you have to reflect too. For anything and everything that you do, always consider reflection as a form of awareness.

For this play, reflection can happen in various forms but personally what works best is ask yourself some pretty straight-forward brutal questions which can sound like this.

Am I content with who I am and who I’m trying to be in life?

Is my current personality/attitude/character/identity actually bringing me closer to my goals?

Is my current identity helping me to unlock my full potential?

The goal here is to really spend some time alone and get curious with your own self-image. Because once you do this, then you’re already crossing one of the most difficult phase which is to be aware of your current identity and how it’s actually affecting every decision you had made, you are making and you’re going to make in life.

Do this in the form of journaling because it’s going to be a lot easier and fun. Didn’t I mention this hm?

New Identity

After performing that self-reflection, now you are aware that something’s got to change. You have to create a new version of yourself. Because now it’s time for you to be really clear with who you want to be in life. (YOUR FUTURE SELF)

Get into a state of mind where it’s not just about touching surface level anymore but it’s reaching to the root level. Go really deep by reflecting on your life goals. There’s a reason why I’m mentioning this is because your identity is highly correlated with your life goals.

Whether you like it or not but goal setting is so IMPORTANT only if you are really serious about unlocking your true and full potential. Because once you’re clear with what you want to achieve in life, then it’s easier to design a new character you want to step into. You have to get this step done before moving anymore further!

Support system

It would be pointless if you wake up everyday claiming you have changed but your actions are not speaking enough for you. You have to walk the talk honey. If you are firm with your new identity, you have to make sure you create a set of routine and habits that would highly support your new identity.

For instance if I want to step into the most fit, hot and healthy version of myself. Then I have to ensure that I’m taking the right steps to achieve my new image by working out, eating healthy and just living in a right way right?

Replace the above sentence with the action that you need to take in order to live up to your new identity.

I wrote some goals out for my art last year (ie: practice backgrounds) and it actually helped a lot

So I’ll actually post what my goals are this year, if anyone has any tips for these things please tell me (also feel free to leave critique on my art throughout the year, I’ve never said it but I don’t actually mind constructive criticism (As long as it’s actually CONSTRUCTIVE and not just being mean)

ART GOALS 2024!!

-work on beating my same face syndrome

-practice more diverse body types

-practice more dynamic poses

-put together a portfolio (so hopefully I can get into the school I’m aiming for)

- do 15 minute sketches every day (if possible)

i think (one of) the reason(s) i've been so lethargic abt art this month is i've reached a crux where my eye is trained better than my drawing skills so i don't like how my art looks anymore

logically i know the stepping stone from here is to do studies and a bunch of boring repetitious stuff to improve my basics but i don't wannaaaaaaaa (mostly bc it's summer n the semester burnout is real) so i am currently in limbo

Thinking about image model generated art and gifmaking is giving me some weird vibrations about how there really is some weird association of the virtuesvirtues of a medium with the virtues of the people working in it. Gifmaking being associated with KPop fans doesn't make the concept of frame interpolation racist, and someone marketing themselves as a cheaper alternative to some other artist doesn't make the concept of generative art inherently class antagonistic.

It's somehow reminiscent of CJ the X's distinction between "stupid art" and "evil art", how a medium that has a low skill floor can produce things that are very stupid and easy to perceive as low-effort but how that's not the same as them having something wrong with them. If you look at my animation tag, most of it is motion graphics done with AfterEffects, and while it's probably wrong to call it a low skill floor program the way an AI art generator is... there is still a world where instead of programmatically telling shapes to whizz by on a screen, a different Van would have drawn those same animations frame by frame, producing exactly the same animation.

And I don't think the fact that I did them programmatically somehow invalidates the artistic intent that went into them, y'know? I could open AE right now and produce a 250x250 looping gif of clouds and while I know how to do that quick, to make it look good and to make me like it, I would have to spend time considering how the various elements, colours, timings and whatever the particle system/noise generator I use spits out fit together. I would have to fiddle with seeds and levels and timings to make it look good. I would have to spend a long time just staring and thinking about what I'm making before I could make it good.

I don't know enough about generative art tools to know how much fiddling goes into them once they're taught and ready to go, but I do know enough about deep learning to know it's a haphazard, frustrating process that you as the artist have only limited control over, which is why it doesn't appeal to me. But I have made gifs in the past, and I know how that process requires an eye for consistency and composition, framing and colour that a lot of other visual artists don't have because they're not working with time as one of the creative dimensions.

And like... who am I, from my high horse as someone in possession of these skills, to tell someone who is still developing these skills or who has a different aesthetic concept of what is good than me, what they're making is low-effort. That's not my judgement to make. I didn't make it. Only the artist themselves can say if somehing was low-effort or not. I don't see why I should have so little faith in other artists to assume they have no interest in putting in any effort.

Where do you most often get inspiration from?

this is a very broad question but a lot of the time I’m getting inspiration from other people (their art, memes they show me) but also my ADHD brain makes me think of scenarios involving characters and possible lore the most when I’m at work lolol. the latter is always very much out of nowhere too
