#kotlc#keeper of the lost cities#keefe sencen#sokeefe#he watches him and sophie's 5 year old little boy and 11 year old girl (she's currently applying for Foxfire) while sophie works#he does his own art pieces along with commissions at home#and the little boy can teleport so he's constantly dropping in on sophie and fitz at their job#(it's related to them being cognates or something idk)#and keefe has a panic attack because he looked away for one second to add a detail to his sketch and now his kid's gone#their kid drops into sophie's arms (or right outside the door of the building she works at)#and sophie gives him an eye roll and a disappointed look for freaking his father out and interrupting her#(he has absolutely appeared when she was in a super important meeting)#this is all based on the assumption that elves don't have some kind of basic schooling before foxfire or other schools like it#when he appears back at their residence (their leapmaster floor has an open roof for teleportation)#keefe is standing there frantically ready to catch him#and their girl (im shit with names) is standing there giving him a look like “I thought you weren't scared of anything”#and he's just caught the kid and is trying to rock him to sleep cause teleporting is tiring for a 5 year old#but he humors her while walking down the hall to his bedroom#“who said i wasn't?” “i do” “why?”#“nobody who actually beat an ogre would be scared of their child teleporting away”#“you'd be surprised”#(she doesn't beleive he actually fought dimitar and thinks it's an elaborate inside joke between sophie him and queen ro)#so they keep going back and forth with him being vague about the details because while he did beat dimitar#he is absolutely exaggerating all the details#“keefe you can't tell our kids you punched dimitar and he immediately surrendered” “please” “no”#and then they get to his room on the second floor and he shushes her so he can place the sleeping boy in his bed#i have so many thoughts about future sokeefe actually

i feel like i just got so used to ciri and how natural ciri and geralt’s relationship left, via being introduced to the witcher via witcher 3, and then reading the middle of the saga before i finished the short stories…
that i never really innately picked up on the fact that ciri turning out to be geralt’s daughter and not his son was… uhm, part of the entire surprise, let’s put it that way :’)
geralt and ciri are just soooo natural as a father and daughter duo that i can’t imagine it any other way, if ciri had been a boy this would have been way less remarkable as a series, there would be no witcher series as we know it. so to me ciri being a girl was the normal and default, expected way things were supposed to go.
even when i read a question of price-sword of destiny-something more for the first times, i was like “ok” when ciri being a girl was a switch of expectations: geralt (and, supposedly, the reader) having expected pavetta to have a son. like… “alright, it’s a girl, so what.”
i had to be informed about how this was an intentional shock… not only because i’m not a parent, but i mean, well, ultrasounds get mixed up all the time, right… it’s not so uncommon to have a kid and be surprised by the gender…
and because of this, i was more inclined to eyeroll at blood of elves being preachy with going over ciri’s biological sex what seemed like ten million times in chapters two and three… what with the whole “daughter has her first period” subplot, ciri upset over her lack of potential strongmanship, and the witchers mostly relying on triss for guidance in raising a girl. the moral being both “just raise her like any other child” and “be sensitive to her needs that you’re blind to…”
although i still think these segments have visibly aged and date the series (not inherently a bad thing, just a quality of it)… they do make more sense when i try to empathize more with the perspective of a new father… who didn’t know he was receiving a girl… who thought she died… who only got her back through a miracle… and having to raise a girl… that’s not a young child anymore, not yet a teen, but is very shortly going to start going through puberty?! it’s like growing up in the desert, just learning what water is, and then getting thrown into the ocean.
because “having to raise a girl” still doesn’t seem that strange to me, but then i remember geralt didn’t see a woman and only had heard about them as a concept until he was an adult (because “warrior-monk” realness), he grew up with a hole in his heart that his absent mother bore, he lives in a highly gendered society, he experiences hostility from everybody of course but especially from women and girls, who take fright at him for… specific reasons explained by the old women in edge of the world…
no, geralt’s not helpless, but i forget, because he acts normal, but… (i mean, although he has issues, he could have really gone off his rocker with regards to women, a little sacrifice confirms this and vilgefortz embodies this) i forget that geralt’s inexperience with women… mostly manifesting in anxiety and both uncertain and impulsive behavior… like ghosting with a nosegay of flowers, the “dear friend” and all… would affect his view of the gender as a whole, including how he sees ciri. and it does.
in his situation, yes, having to raise a girl does intensify the element of “what the fuck am i doing”. especially as a single dad.
and although i do like it when the pov shifts from geralt in the saga but just to another person in the room, for how he becomes more of a distant and enigmatic figure, seeing him through others’ eyes always makes fills me with this uncertainty. buuuut, i would fucking adore blood of elves chapters two and three through geralt’s eyes just for how much of an emotional wreck he must have been… and trying not to show it to her :(
#i love geralt 😇 books geralt i will avenge you against the world !!!#the ‘something more’ = she really loved him because he was a good father and loved her — 🤷🏻♂️ i’ll lose my mind#actually straight up if ciri had been a boy then there would have been no saga#because the elder blood gene wouldn’t fucking reactivate if she was a boy#also not funny to imagine how much boy ciri would have resembled emhyr 💀#‘kaer morhen is a monastery with swords and herbs’ so often forgotten#i swear up and down that cdpr gwent stories are not canon… but#one of the good things was dandelion meeting geralt and immediately wondering when he had last fucked and if he had ever fucked#and he started thinking about this because geralt went 👁️👁️ at a waitress or innkeeper’s ample bosom#this is literally so in character for both of them i was surprised it was fanfiction#that and the structure of the story was really resonate with their characters#‘there is going to be a wedding’ ‘there is going to be a funeral’ they did a great job with that#it did feel like games characterization but overall high standards#day 1 meeting in posada dandelion asks geralt if he still has his balls or if they… as part of his training#not in a mean way but in a very casual tone resembling ‘so how’d you get into this line of work’ chat#the elbow-high diaries

Bad news: That joke post about including Reset + Orchid is definitely not canon. (I legit got sad thinking about Reset being in a universe where Orchid isn't- because their stories are so so intertwined- but Nightmare 100% would NOT risk the whole twins exploding Error's soul thing.)
Good news: This means I COULD include Kane (Reset's older brother who usually dies in timelines where Reset is born) and use it to develope his character a bit more! Also! Perhaps a Blue × Dream kiddo is finally in the stars for me to design?

you know, I complain a lot about my union because forming a coalition and building solidarity means you will disagree and navigate a lot of conflict, but I will say that it's also some of the most rewarding and important work I've ever done.
#tbd#union tag#yesterday i ended up confronting management--like executive suite level--about the transphobia in the agency#and it didn't go well. unsurprising.#and i got a little direct! i always advocate for pushing in a kind and professional manner but this time (:#this time I pushed harder and I told them why and how unacceptable this was#and got no where except for the head of HR looking upset that I was pushing him to take action#anyway i don't feel like we got anywhere other than putting them on notice (which sometimes IS critical to work getting done)#but we caucused after that convo and my union mates went from 0 to 60 on workshopping how to support me#and other trans colleagues in my department#like i was so warmed and surprised to see how everyone showed up for us#even though sometimes we butt heads and have significant disagreements#that's solidarity. that's the work.#and then in our union meeting someone announced a name change and everyone was like 'cool' and started using it immediately#action matters so much more over empty words#and i do see my job--my position--as someone to push (and be pushed) for action over empty words#and sometimes it takes over a year for that action to happen but when it does? indescribable#it is clear that executive level management will not budge on this unless we continue to show up#and we will.#people don't inspire change. a network of relationships--a give and take--lead to change. change comes from action#building that relationship sometimes IS the most effective action you can take#when we talk about building community we are talking about the action. the actions of care & time & listening & connecting#assembling everything you know & all you can do to figure out how to make this moment & this place & this life better#it's not about paying dues it's not about striking it's about showing up sitting down listening and forming a plan of action.#anyway#currently#transphobia tw

We ought to write more Pokemon fic some time. We want to recreate the Pokemon Manners/Human Manners cheat sheet that we made a few years ago we think that this site would like the Sliding Scale Of Politeness When Greeting A New Pokemon You've Never Met Before.
#we speak#writing#we grew up with pmd games and we feel like the way that pmd pokemon's dialogue tends to be excessively... direct?#should be a feature and not a bug when any pokemon that you meet might be totally unfamiliar with your species and biology#it's probably very polite to start up front with some basic facts about yourself so they know how to act going forward#the very upfront feel to dialogue also very much helps with keeping the dialogue feel more... pokemon#people mock the series for weird npc dialogue a lot but we think that taking these things literally makes for more fun society building#it doesn't all have to fit with socially acceptable for our world we think. polite in our world isn't even consistent by household.#sometimes a polite interaction sounds like “hello! i'm poochyena! i like to chase people and bite!”#name and immediately socially useful information. now you know about the chasing people and biting so you don't assume it's rude#of course poochyena bites and chases people. it likes to do that. you can say you don't like that and it might stop doing that to You#but it will not stop biting and chasing people because that's what it likes to do and it will probably only befriend people okay with that#it makes a very specific dialogue feel that's very fun to do. we like how the pokemon world tends to treat any sort of like#disability or “weird” things as something that you just say out the gate and everyones like “oh okay”#and then treat that as Part Of Interactions going forwards. there are a surprising amount of parts of the pokemon manga#that are dedicated to working around a character's disability after one or all of their means of dealing with it get taken out#admittedly we aren't that caught up on newer content but we find the way that it tends to be just Accepted as very refreshing#making the dialogue this direct does also tend to make it read as more “childish” in english and particular because a lot of Maturity's jus#learning how to dance around what you're saying or phrase it in different ways to get your idea across differently#whereas here everything is just as direct as possible. “i don't like charmander”. “i like roasting berries”. “i want to dig things up”.#all pokemon dialogue tends to go towards being exceedingly simple and it makes for some very distinct writing#especially when you have to tackle complex situations with characters who probably dont employ that sort of vocabulary#though we personally enjoy doing this sort of stuff your mileage may vary ofc#we are biased towards this sort of thins because we find it MUCH more fun to build up what we're talking about from blocks#than to like. try and use more indirect wording that may lose things in translation#unfortunately this is not fun in irl conversation. everyone has to be on the same page and you need to use the same playbook to communicate#we REALLY wish people said what they meant though. we're really tired of being asked shit like “is this accessible”#when what they mean is “can you climb these stairs” a question which depends on the day our energy level and how things have been going#there are a lot of things we could say that would make us feel like some sort of anti sjw type guy and a lot of em boil down to just#"for the love of god dont dance around a Sensitive Topic just get to the point and ask us about it this just makes things harder for everyo

Family will be like "why aren't you doing anything fun like trips or going out drinking or getting tattoos like I was at your age" then tell you that they're taking you off their insurance effective immediately and they're gonna stop paying for your part of the phone bill so you now owe them $95 a month because surprise you're actually in a super expensive contract they never told you about

I actually hate making plans with people it is not straightforward and it is stressing me out.
If I making plans with someone, and especially if they have invited me, it needs to be straightforward. We decide what we are doing, how we are getting there, and ALL of the needed information is provided, and it is done quickly and efficiently and I know what will happen.
NOT being unclear of the details of your invitation when asking me to go with you, not changing your mind last minute, not altering the plans continuously, and not only cementing stuff the day before it needs to happen
I seriously cannot function like this, I am only going to be meeting with people in the future if I get to decide everything and they follow the timetable and plan TO THE LETTER because that is the only way I am going to avoid anxiety attacks, stress, and being told off for other peoples issues by my parents

#THANK U shower after a jog#for YEARS.....YEARS I TELL YOU Y E A R S#WANTED TO WRITE A PROPER AIRPLANE FIC AND NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#it's nothing ground breaking or earth shattering but like#something along the lines of:#elesa is having to take a small break from being a gym leader due to some sort of fashion gig that has her traveling all over the world#away from unova for at least a year or so#elesa and skyla had been tiptoeing a little painfully around their romantic feelings for years at that point#and the separation is putting a strain on that#elesa had internally been hoping skyla would ask her to not go through with it - but she didn't#(bc skyla is never going to let herself be the thing that gets in the way of elesa's career)#and then skyla gets in her head about figuring it's her own fault for not saying anything if elesa finds a real partner while she's away#and then maybe skyla takes a small break of her own from the gym to line up a flight job to one of the cities elesa has a show in#and maybe elesa's manager is cool and skyla works with her to more or less make it a surprise for elesa#and it's just...The Best weekend#and turns into skyla taking more and more time away from the gym to meet with elesa around the regions of the world#i want yearning!!!!!!!!!!! i want longing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#i want the tension to build and build and build until it!!!!!!!! snaps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#writing tag
