Never use Surfshark VPN

I just wanted to make this post to warn yall about it, I am not a tech genius but I wanted to get a vpn and surfshark was one I knew about so i subscribed to them because it seemed ok, that was where I fucked up.

fast forward a year and now I am trying to cancel my yearly auto-renewing subscription which costs 70 fuckin bucks, didnt find much use in surfshark as it was too laggy when using its vpn services so i go to billing and try to cancel.

there was no cancel button so that was odd, and you cant turn off auto-renew so i figure ill just get rid of my card info so it cant charge me.

i cant or at least i cant figure out how.

I go to help and find the cancellation area after scrolling past why you should keep the subscription and it tells me to contact their live support to cancel, It requires my name and gmail, I know for a fact my gmail is correct but it says its wrong and that my name is wrong no matter how many ways I enter it and I cant find a possible username anywhere on the site i could use. Its for all practical reasons impossible for me to cancel, not just the fact I cant even talk to customer support, but the people on reddit that do, talk to a bot and then the agents take months to actually turn off the subscription so it charges again and there is no refunds.

You know what? YES! There is a story to be made out of tech no longer being supported even though it's life supporting! My fuckin emails!

I used to use Windows' default mail app, which sucked. It couldn't work with custom email addresses and was generally janky, but you know what? It was my janky default mail app, because I was too lazy to change it to a better one. Just like with every other default app included with Windows 10 (which I still use even though they came out with a Windows 11 (even though they said they'd never do that (fuckin tryhards)))

But then Windows was all like

"mail app will no longer be supported, please switch to Outlook, bleh".

And that's when my alarm bells started ringing. I knew shit was going down hill. First they took Flash, and now they're after my fuckin MAIL?!? Is nothing sacred???

And what's worse, they had the gall to make *me* do something, and accept change, when I'd much rather be embracing stagnancy. What? Are we too good for the bare minimum all of a sudden?

But, I also knew the deadline was like six months away, so I didn't do shit and forgot about it. Because I have a heavy prescription for A.D.D., a mental disorder which makes it difficult to not put things off until the last minute since I can't think in scales longer than about six days. I am heavily dependant on my calendar app to tell me when to do stuff.

But then it happened. Six entire months had passed, and I finally had to change to Outlook. That made my afternoon a SLIGHTLY more stressful and busy than it'd have normally been, the bastards

But, you know what? There's no point getting angry over that. I think I might have just been too complacent with my old shitty default mail app all that time, and was too lazy and had too many dysfunctioning executives to look for better options. I might never have known what other mail apps could be like until someone gave me that little push. There really is a lesson to be learned here. 😔

And you know what that lesson is?

DON'T EVER FUKIN TRUST WINDOWS! BECAUSE OUTLOOK IS WAY SHITTER AND JANKIER THAN MAIL APP! WHY DID THEY MAKE ME SWITCH TO IT???

It takes forever to open, it also fucked the calendar app because apparently those can't be separate windows anymore so I had to spend like 20 minutes fixing it, then it fucked my wife, and just today it refused to open at all because it FALSELY believed it was already open.

I ended up having to restart my entire ass computer, WITH A FORCED WINDOWS UPDATE, giving me plenty of time to write this post. Haven't slept in 42 hours btw (unrelated). Then Outlook decided to log me out, so I had to find my password to sign back in. Meanwhile, I couldn't do any work because the only thing I needed to do was see my goddamned emails! So I finally get in, and I discovered that apparently that Windows update was updating Outlook, because I had to tell them that NO, I DON'T WANT MY DATA HARVESTED.

All this and for what? Fashionable looking UI design? Compatibility with email handles that don't end with @gmail.com?

What do I look like, some kinda jackass who owns multiple alternate email addresses with custom domains? Custom domains that I've been using an entirely separate web based email service to check since the old mail app wouldn't let me open them, but I was just too lazy to switch over to completely for my primary work and school gmails? Do I look like someone who bought themadscientist@ravingsofamadscientist.com thinking that somehow a *mailing list* would make me INTERNET FAMOUS?

Because yes, I am and I did do that. But you know what? I STILL do all that because I haven't gotten around to putting those emails into Outlook!

Birdhouse (2021)

(warning- my birdhouse might be cursed?) WILD- I've been trying to post this for two days and for some reason the og copies of this thing wouldn't post. I contacted customer support, did all their things, and the works. I couldn't get proper screen caps of this bug occurring, and when I took a screen recording it was too big to send on gmail. Today, I wanted to just see if I can post (any) photo- and I can. Just, NOT the originals of this birdhouse. Why does tumblr hate my birdhouse? (Rhetorical) Lol! To solve this issue, I took a screenshot of my picture and then used the photo editor app I use for watermarking (Collage Maker) to crop it. Then, it posted just fine.

So anyway what I've been unable to say the last few days about this piece is: I painted this and I don't think it'll ever feel finished. Plenty of loved ones have told me it's perfectly sellable the way it is but, ultimately if I had the money and space to work on this, there's one of two things I'd like to do with it.

Attach a metal/chain decorated loop to top for easy hanging, widen the hole a little, and add decorative dangle-ies to the bottom for flare✨ (Light catchers or tiny soft bells.)

Sculpt residents for the porch/hole/window, and add interior tea/LED lights, making it an interior decorative piece.

Maybe this will sit in my "in stock" crate long enough that I can do one of those things, or maybe I will acquire more bird houses later, when I can afford to fund my projects. (Then, I could do both.)

Garden of Seif Updates:

This month has been busy, and we've finally reached our final rounds of QA and even have submitted our game to Valve for approval.

Steam has received and reviewed the game build. It was not approved due to partial controller support not viable according to their recommendations. While the game does work partially with a controller, you still have to use a mouse and keyboard in order to type your player name input. There is currently no work around for us with this, so I've decided to remove partial controller support on the game's page. We are waiting for Steam to approve this.

The game's page has been updated with higher spec recommendations. We have not tested the game on a variety of older machines, so we decided to update the minimum requirements out of caution. You can contact foxdrift.cs(at)gmail(dot)com for customer support if you come across any issues.

Backers are going to receive their copy of the game once the above are resolved with Valve.

We'll be announcing the public release date once Steam approves the build.

Steam achievements will be added in a patch update in the very near future. This isn't something I had initially planned for the release, but I wanted to make this clear for any achievement hunters out there that want to wait until these are patched in.

I am so excited for everyone to finally have the chance to play my game! This may be the end of development for Garden of Seif: Chronicles of an Assassin, but there is still much on the horizon for the Garden of Seif titles.
