When I was in college, I let German tourists take pictures with me in my graduation gown. Even at the time I thought it was weird. But since my college years, I haven’t allowed strangers to take pics of me “just because” here or abroad. “Curiosity” means very little to me. People on the clock app were saying in China they actually have been known to post pics of Black people on WeChat to make fun of them. So, maybe not the best idea to let strangers take pics of/with you. Anyway, I wish you all safe, joyous, and comfortable travels. You deserve to see the world in peace just like anyone else.

So this is actually amazing, because it's been sooo long since it's snowed here. I grew up just outside of Philadelphia, and remember getting several big snowstorms a year as a kid, but since I left for college, there's been almost none. Global warming has really done a number on the area.

fun fact! you are not describing the bodies of privileged thin people who just can't take a joke! you are describing the bodies of people who are disabled and/or otherwise extremely ill and/or starving! you are talking about people who face high rates of mockery and medical abuse! even without the other three factors, being underweight has massive impacts on your health and shortens your lifespan greatly! it also makes you physically weaker and much easier for people to manhandle, hurt, and kill, because unlike being fat, being underweight is inherently mutually exclusive with being strong.

how fucking sick do you have to be to talk this way about the bodies of cancer patients, AIDS patients, people with other wasting diseases, people who are atrophied from disability and/or confinement by abusers making it impossible to exercise, people with eating disorders that manifest by reducing their body mass, homeless and food-insecure people in regions that have decided arbitrarily that they should starve, famine victims, war victims, VICTIMS OF THE

what kind of soulless fucking ghoul do you have to be to mock us, to say that our bodies are unpleasant to even be touched and treat it as the height of ridiculousness that anyone we love might find us to be anything else, to imply that the only reason someone actually would is because they have a gross objectifying fetish, to treat us as a joke to own people who say annoying things about your stupid fucking blorbos, to talk gleefully about beating and maiming and murdering us and what our bodies would feel and sound like crunching under your hands

i watched my mother die of cancer. i watched her body wither even more quickly than most--on the order of weeks, not months--after she had a sudden stroke that destroyed her sense of taste. i watched her break down in tears more than once when she tried something different, just a tiny little snack, in hopes that maybe this time it would be edible, only for this one to taste like car exhaust too, because she was so, so hungry. she died so hungry.

i'm not going to get too deep into my own body and medical issues here. just writing this out so far is about as much as i can handle, and vomiting up all the years of trauma right now would just about break me. but in short i am an extremely underweight disabled person who's been watching my mind and body waste away for a long time, knowing there's basically nothing i can do about it and it's very likely to kill me, being constantly concern-trolled and splained and guilted and shamed and victim-blamed about how i just don't want to get better, how if i just had the right attitude and powered through it and tried this special diet they read about on facebook and 'it's not that hard to make food, just.... do it :/' then i would magically be okay, i've had people fetishize my body and praise me for it and say i'm lucky and it's great that i lost weight and they wish i had my body when i was malnourished/physically ill/actually dying, i've had to see constant victim-blaming Scare Em Straight PSAs from supposedly eating-disorder-conscious assholes about how DID YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU DON'T EAT ENOUGH YOU'LL [gruesome detailed descriptions of what will happen to me, culminating in my early death],' i've had caretakers demand to know who they can pawn off responsibility on for my death if i died soon so they wouldn't get in trouble for neglect when the police found my corpse

'well fat people also--' shut the FUCK up i'm not talking about fat people right now, i am talking about underweight people because we are the ones you can't keep out of your fucking mouths. have a brain and a fucking soul, and also i can attest that your blorbos are shit solely on account of you using them as an excuse to behave like this. i feel like we don't talk about twosun enough. its inherently very interesting. this is the world that shaped our heroes. but the minutiae is easy to make up to suit your purposes and none of it ultimately matters to the narrative. trying to think of what we know about this world. there are 2 suns. a purple sky. it was a hard world (aren't all worlds?). there was a spaceship.

so what's the technological state of this world? hard to say. there's a spaceship, first of its kind, but how specific is that? is it the first flying ship at all, or only the first to leave the planar system? the light fell down a year before the starblaster took off, since the hunger came down right on that day. the ipre had the light for one year. how much did that contribute to their technological advancement? (i hate the idea of 'advancement' as if it's some inevitable linear progress but bear with me here, that's the easiest language to use). were they building ships beforehand? what else did they have?

here's how i tend to think of it: the ipre has the light. the ipre is already quite "advanced" for this world. here are things the ipre has, so by extension twosun has: bond engines, indoor plumbing, industrialized steel production. however i don't tend to think of twosun as a globalized world. so there are many places that do not have these things. and of course these are all things we think of as "advanced" but they also lack many things we think of as technological "advancement," like steam engines, or concrete. anyway.

i don't think its possible for the light of creation to have inspired all of this in only one year. this world was already well on its way. the ipre already existed, it already built spaceships. just not as ambitiously, and more rooted in magic than technology (the idea that magic is just science/technology you don't understand yet is very fun, but in this case i think magic is very much different, and has a longer history. although it can be used in tandem with tech, like in the bond engine).

and aside from technologically i tend to think of it as very politically fractured and chaotic. small regional governments with little reach, fraught and difficult trade, certainly no formal schooling systems (there are, like, wizard universities, all with different inscrutable systems, and then the ipre, and that's your choices for "education"). which is why there's more tech in some places than others.

the most interesting thing is, i think, the difference in lifespans among our crew. magnus, lucretia, and barry know only a more or less industrialized world (although i do tend to have barry grown up rural, that'd be one of those places all this tech hasn't quite reached yet), where there's an organization that sends spaceships with engines to different planes of this reality, and now with a little extra kick from the light, to different realities entirely. magnus has only ever showered with water from pipes indoors. he doesn't bat an eye at buildings made of all metal and glass. but lup and taako grew up in a medieval fantasy world. this shit's all, like, seventy years old max, and they've been around for nearly two centuries. they were bathing in big medieval washtubs as kids. their clothes were all handmade. merle too, although he grew up off the grid anyway. and probably davenport as well, but he would've been more immersed in tech, growing up in a gnomish warren. which is maybe why he was such a good pick for pilot of the starblaster.

but also: we see some of the same happen in faerun. even there it's not clear what the time period is. it's fantasy, all swords and sorcery. but there's trains and arcane engines and skyscrapers. again, not globalized, these things exist in isolated pockets. is it the light? did it still manage to have subtle influence all those years? is it just the luck of the millers finding a window into the plane of thought? is the real answer just that it's inconsistent in whatever way makes the most fun story? is it fun to play in the space of trying to make sense of it anyway?

SCP#: AGX

Code Name: Ben Tennyson, Hero of the Omnitrix

Universe of Origin: Υ-17: "Broken Masquerade"

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-AGX-Hero has proven to be quite resilient and much smarter than he mostly acts. The Global Occult Coalition and PENTAGRAM have already tried containing him on multiple events, all of which have failed. Instead, the Foundation is to keep a friendly but distant relationship with SCP-AGX-Hero. Due to his grandfather being a veteran of the Global Occult Coalition he has been trusted by the GOC and the Foundation to keep an eye of SCP-AGX-Hero and to never use SCP-AGX to commit crimes. Mobile Task Force Athena-9 “Justice is Dead” is responsible for taking out SCP-AGX if he ever shows signs of becoming evil.

Description: SCP-AGX is a piece of anomalous technology that resembles a wristwatch; created by an unknown alien, from an unknown species, from an unknown world. All that is known is that SCP-AGX, despite being technological, is symbiotic in nature, being able to attach to anyone who is close to it. Once this happens, they are bonded with SCP-AGX and can utilize its capabilities to its full extent. The current host is Person of Interest: Ben Tennyson who has been labeled as SCP-AGX-Hero.

SCP-AGX-Hero is able to utilize SCP-AGX to select any of several possibly hundreds of DNA samples collected. Once a selection is made SCP-AGX-Hero’s DNA will be rewritten with the DNA sample making them a pure alien from the DNA sample. With this they will have the body, strengths, abilities, and weaknesses of the alien as if they were always that species. List of alien species SCP-AGX can transform into is quite vast as the Foundation has only witnessed a few of the suspected hundreds. Please see Addendum X-78 for details. 

SCP-AGX was discovered in 2005 and has since had a minor but noticeable impact on the world, more specifically the United States. A regrettable result was the fact that due to SCP-AGX-Hero having access to multiple alien species, leading to civilians believing that there were multiple heroes and creatures fighting villains and hostile anomalies. This confusion, especially the fact that none of the aliens SCP-AGX-Hero transforms into have been identified by civilians, or the Foundation, has resulted in the public asking all the wrong questions.

However, SCP-AGX-Hero though young, has proven competent enough to defend himself and his family. That and due to his uncle, Person of Interest: Max Tennyson being a veteran of the Global Occult Coalition’s galactic division he has access to several weapons made with captured alien tech. Apparently, they were all given to him as a reward for his many feats and years of service; a decision that has angered many members of Administrative Staff here at the Foundation. In conclusion to make an enemy of SCP-AGX is not in the Foundation’s interest, for now, we will observe and wait for an opportunity to see how SCP-AGX can be properly utilized, if at all.
